Pat McAfee's last home game @ LOS

MR. Blueblood

Recommended Posts

As per his twitter earlier:

"It just hit me today @ practice that this Sunday could be my last game @ Lucas Oil Stadium..What an amazing 4 years it's been..Thank you all"

While I'm 100% certain that he'll be back under a new contract next year what are your thoughts?  What percentage are you giving for #boomstick to remain a Colt?

I think 5 things

1.It didnt "just hit him"

2.He posted that as a tactic to get the Colts attention

3.It GOT Irsay and Grigsons attention

4.He should have kept that off of Twitter

5.He will be resigned, do we really want to have to replace a Punter of all things we have to replace this offseason?

He will be resigned indo time in the offseason, hang in there Pat

Sinister is a little much dont ya think, I dont think he did anything harmful or evil but thats a business decision that belongs behind closed doors, These players are businessmen first and foremost, Hey I love having Mcafee on my team, I met him at Colts Camp and got his autograph but none of that means he is any less of a businessman than any NFL team owner for example, He knows business should be handled behind closed doors, He also knows he has a big fan base, I connected the dots, Players do this sort of thing all the time

He's not as much of a business as any NFL owner, he's a player, players do this sort of thing all the time. :)

* sorry Gavin

Well....   the key word in his tweet is ***could***

I guess it all depends on what he asks for.

But I would think he's a priority re-signing for us.     If we lose him, he's not going to be easily replaced.

He's worth a considerable amount,  the question is...   how much?

I don't know about this...

This is what everyone was saying about Hunter Smith, and Bill Polian was not willing to give him the large deal the Redskins were. And look how that turned out. I think Grigson could find us another punter without much effort just like Polian did. It is not like were searching for a franchise QB here. If he wants a deal the size that Hunter smith got I say let him walk.

He is almost an MVP for our team this season.

This is true, his punting has really bailed this O out several times not to mention his KO's are stellar also.

I think Shane Lechter signed a few years ago for 3 or 4 million per.     That is a LOT of dough...   for a punter.

But,,,,    he can K, he is a top P in the NFL, he is an emotional leader (big hits), and he is still young.

I would give him top dollar.   As long as his asking price is reasonable.and realistic.  The Colts have money to spend so I hope Mac does not play hard to get with them.

Yeah, I'd be pretty sad to see him go. He's a good teammate, and is good supporter of various charities and Indianapolis events. He's a good punter, but I don't think there is any guarantees he'll be back next season. Money could draw him away or maybe other teams will flirt with him the idea of getting a chance to do field goals for them.

I do not see a reason why Pat will not be back unless he prices himself out of here. The guy has been almost our MVP with how many times he has bailed out our inconsistent offense. He has been our defenses best friend all year long.

I would hate to see the guy go because he has a great personality for the city, is active in the community, and is just a lot of fun to follow.

1. I'm a big Pat fan.

2. He's got every right to start contract negotiations whenever/however he wants

3. BUT - I'm disappointed that he chose twitter this week to do it. Besides being tacky, the team doesn't need the distraction this week.

I will post the same on his twitter page.

i really doubt that this tweet becomes a major distraction. Honestly I doubt anyone in that locker room cares about pats contract other than pat. Pat is a professional and seems aware that the best thing he can do for his contract is play well.

I think Pat will be resigned. I know he is a fan fav but sometimes that is not enough. He has a great hang time but is pretty low putting the ball inside the 20 yard line. He is rated 14th in the NFL as far as yardage. I am just curious as his ability to kick field goals. I have seen him kick some long ones in practice.

He just followed Irsays lead. How much had he put on twitter the last couple of years. I have no problem with what Patty Mac did

Nobody in that locker room will be distracted by the punters contact situation. To think otherwise is laughable.

Polian had no clue what he was doing during his last 5 years at the Colts. We got lucky with Pat. I'm sure Grigson won't be taking that chance!

Re-read my post - I did not say "major" distraction.

Pat is a ST captain, so any discussion of this in the locker room, and it will of course happen, is a minor distraction.

The professional thing to have done would be to play well and talk later.

Glad you can laugh at my short, fact-based and correct comment!  :)   Cheers.

and I doubt it will even be a minor distraction. You have no way of knowing it will be discussed in the locker room or not so stop pretending like you do. Just because pat makes a comment on twitter mid week does not mean it will be a factor Sunday. It only becomes a distraction when it starts to impact what they do on the field I really doubt pat twitter comment will turn into that. I can't see Andrew in the huddle of a drive we need in the fourth quarter thinking man we have to make this drive for pat it could be his last home game for example. That's a distraction. Honestly paganos return is a bigger distraction than this. This will be a none factor. Also these guys aren't machines they don't only live eat and breath football. Just because they make think about something besides football for a moment does not make it a distraction it makes them human. Like I said before it only becomes a distraction if it starts to impact what players do on the field. Do you really see pats twitter remark doing that or do you just want to be right about this?

    • And yet, PFF didn't grade him all that high last year.  My response to this is that the scheme is designed for the MLB and the SS to make most of the tackles.  And they do. But last year, Franklin allowed a 77% completion rate with 10.2 yards per completion, and 7.9 yards per target.  In summary, he makes a lot of tackles by scheme, but he also allows a lot of completions. I don't think of him a Great.  Or even Good.  He's Fair.   https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FranZa00.htm
    • Probably still won’t shut people up lol. But that is interesting  We are 3 games in after a shoulder surgery. What are you talking about.
    • Every bottom feeder team has a good player or two. Are the colts a bottom feeder? At times they play like it.    the “forum GMs” as you call them, don’t dislike when a player does well. They just hate when the team sucks. There’s nothing wrong with that. And no one here says some of the Colts players aren’t good players.    the Colts stunk it up pretty bad in the first two weeks, lost game one again a stat that we have held for over a decade. In must win games, the colts perform exceptionally awful with a mind boggling level of consistency under this regime.    the good players that the Colts have tend to also not show up in those games and make any game changing plays.    ok so Franklin can tackle. So what? Yeah the forum GMs are shaking with rage because of that!
    • The huge difference is that you could see the progress in peytons game and how he always learned and keept going. and in year two, he really took off and started to show why we picked him.   With AR, things just getting worse, game after game... I wouldn't mind if we traded him for some picks next season.
    • AR is a huge BUST   Hope we draft Arch Manning in to or three years time and move on from this trainwreck of a QB we currently have
