1983 at this point.(Marino, Elway, Kelly,etc)

2004 is giving them a run for their money.(Manning,Roethlisberger, & Rivers)

2012 isn't in the ballpark at the moment.

2012 hasn't even surpassed, the 1998 class of Manning, Hasselbeck & Batch, or quite a few others at the moment.

It has potential, but it's not on the radar of the 83 class.

Hard to really compare QB's of today's age to the past since the rules were so different. The NFL seems to want us to forget about some of the old greats. Do any of you guys remember Bert Jones who played for the Colts in the 70's? He had an epic season back in '76 or '77, I can't remember which. I thought he was great, and he's not really remembered much these days sadly.

injuries ended his career and the late 70's Colts were not very good(He was sacked 12 times-a NFL record in one game against St. Louis Cardinals but since I was born in 1978 and he spent his entire Colt career in Baltimore and retired in 1982 my info is second hand.

His great year was 1976

2004 has already surpassed 1983 IMHO

Agreed 4 SB Titles

Well then, the famous 2000 draft class of Tom Brady, Chad Pennington, and Giovanni Carmazzi must be right behind them with three. And don't forget the 1970 class with Terry Bradshaw, Mike Phipps and Denis Shaw topping out at four. And of course there is the 79 draft class of Joe Montana, Phil Simms, and Jack Thompson which had six.

But if titles are the sole criteria, I don't understand your OP. How can the 2012 class already be superior?

The class of 83 is famous because it featured two QBs who are commonly in the debate for the "greatest quarterback in the history of the game". PLUS another HOFer who is clearly vastly superior to six of the nine players I mentioned above, and superior (in my opinion) to ANY of the 2004 class as well. PLUS the draft also included Ken O'Brien who while not all that fantastic is still arguable the second best QB the Jets have ever had, and Tony Eason who had some moments of his own. Personally I don't think that there is any basis for comparison between 83 and 04, and to bring 2012 into the mix three months into their careers makes no sense whatsoever.

By the way, the 83 draft was exceptional at other positions as well, and if memory serves it wasn't an accident. I "think" that there was a rule change pertaining to eligibility or something that pushed more players into the mix than normal.

I will never forget Bert Jones...I still have his autograph jersey as one of my treasured Colts memorabilia..I was 13 years old back in 76, and because of him, Lydell Mitchell, Roger Carr, the Sack Pack, was when I truly began to understand and appreciate the game. I still say he had one of, if not the strongest arms I have ever seen, even to this day and age.

Back to topic..I don't think there were this many QB's making an impact so quickly as this year. But, only time will tell if they can surpass the 83 draft..They do have the potential though..

It is starting to look more and more likely,

Andrew Luck

Robert Griffin III

Russel Wilson

Kirk Cousins

Ryan Tannehill

Brandon Weeden

Nick Foles

Ryan Lindley

Brock Osweiler

B.J. COleman

Chandler Harnish

Now, not all of these QB's are great, yet, but rome wasn't built in a day, with 3 of these rookie QB's having their respective teams in playoff contention, they are off to a fast start.

The question is, do you think that this QB draft class will be the best ever? Discuss.

My thread is better, because it has more substance. lol

That being said, Mods, please merge?

Actually I'd have to agree haha

It certainly is an interesting list. The surprising success of -what is Wilson - a third round pick, in a year in which the entire league was fawning about the prospects of #1 and #2 - plus a host of guys that some had ranked potentially higher at one time or another makes you wonder.  However I left my crystal ball in my other pants, so I have no good answer for you. I'd be hesitant to call ANY of them "great" right now - it's all about potential. Ask me again in 2022.
