I remember reading in scout reports that Deandre Mcdaniels and Joe Lefeged were top five safety propescts in 2011 draft class. We got both!!

As bad as I hate to say it Painter is probably safe since we need 2 QB's on the team. What if something should happen to Collins we would have nobody. Even with Painter he's a body on the field.

Don't know what to make of this. It doesn't seem like there is room for another safety. Practice squad? I sure as heck hope it isn't because of an injury.

Never heard of the guy, although I have a draft guide which has him as the 7th best 2011 safety (Lefeged #5). He was released 8 days ago. It seems odd that he would be out there that long if he was "that" good.

I am amused by the fact that his Wikipedia page has already been updated to show him as a Colt. Crazy world. No idea why he would even have his own page, much less why someone would jump at the chance to update the information based on a rumor. Get a life (says the guy wandering around a Colts forum in mid-afternoon).

My guess would be that its an insurance policy at the depth of our safeties, since last year we had so many go down to injury, plus in packages that require a larger amount of db's out there, such as dollar and quarter coverages, he could be an extra cb position on the field

I would say this could mean Bethea is probably going to miss some time and the need some insurance behind Caldwell.

I wonder who they will cut for the roster spot? I would guess either Johnson (CB not DT) or Moten, but that is just speculation on my part.

I like the signing, we have 1 injured safety, 1 safety who got injured last year & 2 young guys you don't know about. Lets see what he's got. He does seem to have some upside. Was he drafted & released or a free agent & released. Does anyone know? If so by who? I wonder who is getting cut?

I don't know if that tweet means he was signed to the practice squad or if he was signed to the active roster. I'd guess David Caldwell or Terrance Johnson are the active roster players most likely to be affected by the signing.

That 'Manning out for the season' rumor started from an Indy radio host, who got it from those nasty 'reliable sources'.

No substantiation.

I'm not going to worry about it until it happens, and if it happens, well, things happen.

Only official thing I've heard is that it will be continuously re-evaluated.

Probably practice squad. If he makes some improvements to his game, and he grows up mentally, he can make this team later this year, likely at the expense of Caldwell. However, I'd like to see them both by the end of the year.

Deandre McDaniel was one of the the top UDFAs that I had identified that I hoped the Colts would sign. A little concerned about how good he might be, being that he's already been cut, but it's an intriguing signing.

I am hating all these "Manning out for the year" rumors. Sure hope they are wrong.

Why is it lame? Caldwell and Lefeged both had very good pre-seasons and I think we finally have some depth at the safety poistion.
