Joe Mays Lost For Season With Broken Leg

The Broncos lack of depth at linebacker just got a bit worse with the news that Joe Mays is likely done for the season with a broken leg suffered in last night's 34-14 win over the New Orleans Saints. Mays was hurt during a punt return

While the former starter at middle linebacker has been the target of fans at times for his play on defense, Mays is one of the most liked Broncos in the locker room and a team leader. He is one of the Broncos best players on special teams, and his absence will leave a huge gap in those areas

While Keith Brooking took over for Mays after the loss to the Patriots, the Broncos have little depth behind him with Mays gone. Mike Mohamed is currently on the practice squad and is likely the replacement for Mays once the Broncos make a roster move. D.J. Williams still has two games left because of a pair of suspensions handed down by the NFL

Duke Ihenacho has been on and off of the team’s practice squad this season after notching six tackles during the 2012 preseason.

He was originally signed to the active roster on Sept. 29 and made his NFL debut against the Oakland Raiders, playing on eight special-teams snaps. He was waived and added back to the practice squad before the team’s Week 6 contest in San Diego

In College Ihenacho made 268 tackles (142 solo) with seven interceptions during his 47-game career at San Jose State. He also scored three defensive touchdowns in his career

Joe Mays to have left leg surgery Tuesday to repair his broken left fibula. The break is near his left ankle.

The good news for Mays is he did not suffer any ligament damage around the ankle. He should be fully recovered by the start of offseason workouts in May.
