Broncos add Trindon Holliday for return-game impact

Needing to add sizzle to their sure but inert return game, the Broncos were awarded the tiny and speedy Trindon Holliday off waivers Thursday from the Houston Texans.

Holliday had not one, not two, but three kick returns for touchdowns during the preseason. How did the Broncos get this 5-foot-5, 165-pound former world class sprinter? Houston needed linebacker help, which made their return specialist vulnerable.

Indianapolis also put in a waiver claim for Holliday but he was awarded to the Broncos because their 2-3 record gave them a higher claim order than the 2-2 Colts.

During the preseason, Holliday returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, then later scored on punt returns of 87 and 76 yards.

In 2007, Holliday competed in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships where his 10.07 seconds time in the 100 meters was second only to Tyson Gay. Holliday was an NCAA champion in 2009 with a time of 10.00.

To make room for Holliday on their 53-man roster, the Broncos waived rookie safety Duke Ihenacho. Holliday will practice with his new team Friday and is expected to replace Jim Leonhard as the Broncos' punt returner for their Monday night game at San Diego. Holliday could also spell rookie Omar Bolden as a kickoff returner.

Having spent his rookie season on IR , the 6th round draft pick has only played in 5 games &

had more success as a punt returner, averaging 9.2 yards on 16 returns. He had a relatively modest 19.4-yard average on 10 kickoff returns. ( THIS SEASON )

FOLLOWING IS INCLUDED IN OMAR BOLDEN ROOKIE REPORT

The Broncos claimed former Texans wide receiver Trindon Holliday off waivers Thursday and Holliday has experience as both a kickoff and punt returner. Holliday is expected to return punts against the Chargers Monday and he remains a possibility as a kickoff returner as well — he had 10 kickoffs for 194 yards for the Texans this season.

I'm glad the Broncos beat us on the Holiday pick up. He certainly did not benefit the Broncos in tonights game.

The first play of his Broncos career showed why the Texans let him go.

I guess near muffs and suspect hands is what I was aiming for. I'm hoping that he does well, but from what I've seen here in Houston, he may be a little overrated. We will see though.

Looks like your boy Holliday bought his problems from Houston to Denver tonight. A turnover on his first punt return.

QwizBoy you were right and I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the waver wire this week. :funny: Good thing they have Peyton with the way the first half went. The Sheriff is back for sure.

Yep, he used that quarterbacking voodoo magic he learned in New Orleans and that he's used so many times already in this league. The comeback skills will never diminish, that's for sure. haha
