Oh nonono...Just offering alternatives to people wanting to "brave the elements"...

Whether it was worth the expense or not is debatable. Regardless of whether it was folly or not, it's on the building now, and it will be open between 50-80. So, unless you want to walk down the street on Sundays and sit in an RCA Dome that doesn't exist, you're the one who needs to get used to it.

you'd just have to be in the stadium with the roof open to understand. it's a magnificent site to behold, which makes people happy

I've only been there forn the high school, state finals.

By that time of year..the roof is always closed and I thought that was great...

But it was about 28 degrees outside..

..as I said..watching on TV is bothersome woth the shadows.

But if the real (read: paying) fans like it........then give them what they want

Man, when I was there in 2008 when we played the Ravens in October, it was open and I was in the sun most of the game. Sure it was hot as heck, but it was nice to experience the elements during a football game in October.

Indianapolis people got spoiled by the dome. Now it's turned all these Colts fans into boxes of Vagisil.

Fans of teams with outdoor stadiums scoff at your whining.

Let me say this... I think it is a great feature that the roof can open and I love the window... And sitting in the sun wouldn't be so bad but for a couple of things:

1. It costs $4.50 for a water

2. Beer costs between $6-10 bucks

3. You get absolutely NO BREEZE whatsoever

4. The fat guy in front of you hasn't showered in a week and has been drinking beer and eating jalapeno cheese nachos all game and is currently venting gas from his intestines and smells like a pig farm....

If there was a way they could circulate some air through the stadium while the roof and window were open it would be 100x's better. Not sure if there is a way to just turn the blowers on vent or whatever but I am seriously considering bringing a portable fan/mister to the next game.

That guy always seems to sit in front of me, as well.

No debate on worth of roof, it is what it is. Just offering up info that Irsay did in fact pay for it.

I don't need to get used to it, it is what it is. Doesn't mean I have to like it, now does it?

Just remember, it can be a detriment to our football team when it is open during bright sunny days.

BIG waste of money IMO ... should have left that out of the design plans!

Actually it was left out of the original design plans. One of the reasons it cost so much was the added cost of engineering and design after the fact. Not to mention the added cost of construction to accomidate the additional weight. You are right BIG waste of money. But it's what Jimmy wanted, and he paid for it, sooooo......(actually I'm prolly paying for it each and every year).....

I know several Bears fans who refuse to attend games at Soldier Field in December. Having attended the Colts-Browns game in Cleveland the Sunday after Thanksgiving 2008, I say give me indoor football. If you want to tough it out in that garbage, have at it. But I think it sucks, and my observation is that Browns fans were miserable as well.

Having the retractable roof gives us the best of both worlds, in my opinion, although my seats never get blasted by the sun. I do think that we should somewhat relax the rules. For example, if it's sunny with clear skies but, say, 45 degrees, I think the roof should be open.

i agree with everything. i also think it should be open on hotter days. since heat rises, i suspect they could effectively utilize the air conditioning

Would turning the lights on help the shadows? Just a thought? I like the way the stadium looks, and it is very cool to see downtown Indy through the open ends. It's awesome to have the sun shining in, but being in Northern IN. Most of the games I see are on TV, and the shadows do make the game difficult to watch. I just wondered if turning the lights on would make a difference?

As a tax payer here in Indianapolis I would be so ticked if they kept that thing closed all the time. We did not pay millions of extra dollars for them to keep the retractable roof closed all of the time.

"We" taxpayers did not pay one thin time for this roof. Uncle Jimmy footed the bill for it. Actually, it's prolly "We" season ticket holders that are paying back Uncle Jimmy for his investment.

Lights were on Sunday vs Vikings. See any difference on TV? I sure didn't at the stadium.

I've personally experienced the roof open and closed, and honestly it doesn't matter to me. I enjoyed the roof open for the Seattle game a couple of years ago since it was a really cool day out. The last game I went to was the SNF game against the Giants, and the roof was closed for it. It really doesn't mater I don't think.

I have a simple solution for this problem then... Spread some sun netting across the N end where the sun really cooks people to help block the sun and alleviate the baking fans' misery... You could still see thru it, get the open air feel, it would help with the shadow and the fans would be more comfortable.

simpler solution...don't open the roof..

no shadows....no temperature problems...don't need fans and misters on the sidelines...don't lose the ball in sunlight/shadows...solves the problem before you leave the house of how to dress for the weather/non weather...

Irsay's Folly....

Uuuuu Disgusting, I'm trying not to imagine that.

This just gave me disturbing flashbacks of Riverfront Stadium...... Cincinnati Reds...96 degrees vs the Dodgers....

That fat guy was right in front of me.......ICK to the 100th Power. :):trout:

haha I had to go back and read this a second time. haha glad I did, at first read I thought you said it WAS You  too funny. back on topic here, There is never "pleasing" everyone. I used to love going to the RCA Dome for games, you always knew what the temp and atmosphere would be inside, no matter the elements outside. Sometimes, however, I found myself wishing we were outside instead of in the Dome, on those days of beautiful weather. With LOS it is the Best.... when it is raining or snowing, close the roof... if it's a beautiful day, keep it open....

    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
    • Sir, I was just trying to help you out. No good deed goes unpunished!
    • Not the least bit surprised to hear from you at this moment.   You see me in an uncomfortable conversation (with a moderator no less) and you seize the moment to take a shot at me.  And you try to act like you’re giving me a sincere explanation of what you’re doing.   Like you have an ounce of credibility with me.      This is not the first time you’ve done this.  While I may not be surprised, I’m certainly disappointed.
    • Things have now gone from bad to worse.     After I explained myself, I was kind of hoping you’d simply come back with “I’m sorry, I misunderstood you,  may bad.”  And we’d be done with this.  It would be over.      But instead, you double down on the roommate issue and follow up by questioning everything I said by breaking down some of my comments and what you think I really meant by them.     In other words, you’re telling me my motive, my meaning, as if you know my meaning better than I do.    It’s interesting to me…. I was recently told there’s an unofficial moderator policy:  don’t attack the poster, attack the argument.    Well, I don’t see that here.  You attacked me personally the first time and instead of a simple apology, you’ve double downed on a bad hand by attacking me personally AGAIN.      Why you’re comfortable telling me you know my meaning , my intention, better than I do is mystifying to me.  And frankly, I think you’re comfortable doing this because one of us is a moderator, and it certainly is NOT me.     I’ll say it again: you misunderstood my meaning, and intention,  the first time, and you’ve misunderstood me even worse the second time.   As I said before, I’m happy to withdraw and apologize for “go figure”, but the negative inference was not my intention.  Poorly phrased, I give you (in two posts now).   I don’t know what else to say…. I’m hoping this brings this very unfortunate exchange to an end.
    • I don't think Worthy is a good fit for Richardson's skill set. Think tall with a large catch radius for Richardson to be successful. I don't think u pair a smurf wr with a qb who may have accuracy issues. That's just me
