Good Job Mr Powers

Powers did great but I'd also like to add to this Vonte Davis did a great job today as well. I think I saw one pass thrown on him all game long which means his guy just wasn't open. Frankly if we can get the nickle spot sorted out we will have a really good secondary.

We should give cliff a shot king get to many calls or move powers inside an king outside on nickel

My hope is that as Davis gets more acclimated to the team, he'll be suitable match up against the big guys.

I think the Vikings were going out of their way to get Harvin matched up on other people. Towards the end of the game they were putting him in the slot to get him on King because they knew they had a huge mismatch there.

Never heard a single mention of Vonte Davis.I saw him knock AP down for a nice play, but it seemed Ponder stayed away from him. Nice.

Yeah Vontae did a very very solid job. Didn't hear him much because the ball hardly went his way. His guy never got much separation. Other than Harvin I don't remember what receivers Minnesota has..

I didn't watch the game, so i wouldn't know how powers ''looked'' but every time i looked at an update one my phone the past two weeks its always "Michael Jenkins 11 yard catch, tackled by Powers" or "Brandon Marshall 15 yard catch, tackled by powers" so it always seems like he's giving up a catch and first down. I hope its not that way though.

This whole thread is testament to the otherwise.

unfortunately it is more often then not, he has made a couple nice plays along the way but far to often he gives up catches for good yardage

Oh Gavin cmon. The poster stated he did not see the game and you ripp Powers. Powers has made some plays at CB that I have not seeen from any Colts CB since Ashley Ambrose and Ray Buchanan.

Im not sure an average 4 tackles per game for his career is something to cheer about, I did not rip Powers I simply said the truth, he gives up to many catches and 5 picks in 4 years wont cut it, I think he may bemore suited for the Cover 2 where he can sit back in zone and come up and make the tackle, I can name a Corner or maybe two we gave had thats better (not counting Davis cause we have only seen him two games as a Colt) Nick Harper

Tackling? I am talking about defending the pass downfield. I can not remember a corner for the colts knocking the ball out of a receivers hands in the end zone one on one in a long time. Powers played well.

As you know only so much can be seen with the TV view but from what I saw Harvin was beating zone coverage or our nickel back.

Considering how much you guys are talking up the secondary, I was surprised to see that Ponder outgained Luck in passing yards. Was it mainly YAC? Bad tackling? I can't watch the game on Rewind yet.

Bad Tackling the Colts going away from the pass in the second half (part of why Ponder had more yards) and the Vikings figuring out if they put Harvin in the slot on King it was a complete mismatch. I think people are happy with Davis, Powers, and Bethea in the secondary more than they are the whole secondary.

Surely you know enough of Vikings to know their passing game is "dump it off to AP or Harvin and let them leg it"?

There were a fair few missed tackles too - either way the point is on man-to-man coverage, Vontae Davis stuck to his guy, as did Powers most of the time, and Powers did very well breaking up a few passes.

I do not understand how to use the ignore function yet but you are motivating me to do my homework. I wondered why you are here but then I figured that it must have something to do with hostility towards the Colts and them "Owning" your football team for many, many years. I know you have been and are hoping for "vengance" but nothing seems to have changed even though we had a poor football team last year. We have always owned the Texans and until this point you have only hope. We have plenty of time to get our new systems down before we face the "This is the year of the Texans". How many years have the Texans.........."this is the year"?

Now.......until then you will be ignored.

Look I've had my issues with the Texans fans when they are going a little over board here. Vance did nothing here and didn't even bring up the Texans in his post here. He asked an honest question. Let's not go over board right back at them.

Name me more than 3 cornerbacks in the league that dont allow a few catches for first downs in a game. What league do you guys think you are watching, the super friends league. People are going to catch slants and out for 11 or 12 yards every now and then. To say..."powers guy got a few first downs, therefore powers played poorley" is rediculous.

    • yeah this concept of not being the year to draft an edge rusher is strange. We shouldn’t be drafting for need at #15. We should be drafting for the best player that we can put on this roster, positional value factored in. I would dispute that this isn’t the year. I think it could very well be. What a better d-line to be on the depth chart on than one with uncertainty at the edge moving forward in contract years. Let a rookie stud go out occasionally and get experience/see what he’s about. We might find a true pass rusher at 15.    what I would argue is it’s not the year to draft one of our “needs” at receiver or corner considering how deep these classes are. Day 2 should be just fine there.
    • I don't understand this way of thinking.   When you draft a player in the first round, they sign a four year contract, with an option for a fifth year. If the player is as good as you hope, then the intention is likely to sign them to a second contract for another 4-5 years. So if you hope that this player is a foundational piece of your roster for the next decade, then why would you be so absorbed in the player's playing time in Year 1?   Specific to the Colts at DE, we do not have a game changing pass rusher right now. I like Kwity and Dayo, but so far, they aren't foundational pieces. They're both going into contract years, depending on whether the team picks up Kwity's option. And we have Ebukam, who is also good, but not a game changer. There's no reason any of these players can't be challenged for playing time, especially in pass rush situations. Dayo and Lewis play DE, but also rotate at 3T, so that can be worked out. And there are injuries, which will open up playing time.   DE historically has a learning curve, even for good players. Kayvon Thibodeaux was the 5th pick in 2022, he played 14 games as a rookie, 444 pass rush snaps, and had 4 sacks. He played 17 games in 2023, 498 pass rush snaps, 13 sacks.    Ultimately, passing on a high level edge rush prospect because you're not sure he can start in Year 1 seems incredibly shortsighted.
    • I'll take the Buccaneers as my second team. That is, if I don't win the COLTS lottery!   Where do you keep your Buccaneers? Under my buckin' hat!
