First and foremost, he is a solid backup. Key word being backup. Not only could we sign him to a 1-year contract, there wouldn't be a circus of media attention as well as the drama that comes with signing a guy like Brett Favre. However, the irony of signing Favre to help out Manning while at the same time solidifying his record of consecutive starts is quite compelling. No doubt that Favre wouldn't be interested in a long term backup scenario. We need a sustainable backup at the QB position, which we haven't had in quite some time, and Kerry Collins would bring the veteran experience we need.

I agree this whole barrage of posts about back ups seem to miss the point. That point is not the season but the playoffs. Granted he may have to perform to help us get there but it is insane to think our present back ups could win a playoff game against McHales Navy much less NE!!
