  1. I'd love to see that...either Demps or Rainey...both are lighting quick and don't they both also get used as WR? Of course they're not as adept at catching the ball as a pure WR would be but the fact they are lined up and play at WR would indicate to me they'd have to be among the better receiving Rbs. If Brown isn't brought back, either of these guys could wind up being the change of pace burner RB that Brown was supposed to be.

How about LaMicheal James to fill that role?

  2. I found the first Luck thread on the forum. It was started by a mysterious member named dranyam327. It was their first and only post. The topic has since been locked, but if you search for dranyam327 it'll pop up for you to look over. This was posted before any of the drama started happening surrounding Manning's injury. At that point, everyone was still fully expecting him to be ready for the season opener... So who is/was this mysterious member, who made one post

So who is/was this mysterious member, who made one post and then was kicked off for seemingly no good reason? Seems a bit fishy to me... Could it have been someone on the inside? Someone involved with the higher ranks of the organization? Was this thread locked and the member kicked off because it/they were leaving behind fingerprints that could link them to some conspiracy to can the season? What are your thoughts?

  4. When he signed the deal in training camp, he was paid a 20 million signing bonus. For cap purposes, that is divided by the 5 years of the contract.

His Salary cap # for this year is made up of:

    Signing Bonus: 4,000,000

    Base Salary: 3,400,000

    Workout/Roster Bonus: 8,600,000.

    Total of 16,000,000,

If we do not pick up that option then the remainder of the 16,000,000 of the signing bonus accelerates into the next year. Or if we are lucky it can be divided into 8 million in 2012, and 8 million in 2013, if the June 1 clause made it into the new CBA.

The only thing wiped clean is 28 million option bonus dollars, and the remainder of the 34million he was to earn as a base salary over the next 4 years.

If teams could rework a contract to remove a cap hit they would do it all the time, that is why i don't believe anything can be done. If we were to pay him the 28 million and he were done after a year, we would then be on the hook for the 12 remaining and then 21 from the option bonus, so we will need to know before paying that 28 million whether or not he can play or not.

That is why i said he's not going to be traded. I'm not 100% sure, but I think his bonus is due prior to trades being an option for next year anyway.

Right on, I gotcha man. Good information there

  5. Irsay: Hey, we don't want you anymore. We're going with this kid who has never thrown a pass. You cool with that?

Peyton: I understand. So I guess I'm free to go talk with other teams and negotiate a contract?

Irsay: Actually, we'd like to restructure your contract so that we can set your salary to make you more attractive to other teams so that we can squeeze even more out of you than you've already given us. I know we never did anything like this to build a team while you were here, but we really want to put some solid pieces in place for this unproven kid.

That wouldn't be an awkward conversation at all.

Hey man, Peyton is no fool. He fully understands all of the angles concerning the situation that is transpiring between himself, his injury, the Colts, and the future of the Colts. He understands that no other team is going to be willing to pay him his current contract considering the neck problems. More than anything, Peyton wants to play and he wants to win. If his chances of doing that are better elsewhere, then I wouldn't be at all surprised if he were the one to bring up the conversation. If we picked up the option, there would be virtually no chance that any team would be willing to trade for him and pick up that contract. He knows that, even if he shows us that he is healthy and whatnot, there's still a good chance that we draft Luck, which further cripples our ability to put a good team around him. Plus then he'll have to look over his shoulder anytime he isn't up to his usual form. Unless Peyton shows that he's fully healed before the deadline (for his big bonus), and we give him all assurances that we won't be drafting Luck, then Indy isn't the best option for him. Peyton is very loyal, but I think he should and will do what is best for him. If that means working out a deal that will enable him to go to another team where he will be the undisputed #1 QB and have a legitimate chance at getting another Super Bowl ring, then that's what I believe he will try to get done. If we just let him walk, it's likely that he'll only get offers with lots of out clauses in them in case his neck becomes a problem. The last thing he wants is to get picked up by some team, be a little rusty over the course of the preseason (which should be expected from any QB that just missed an entire season), then get cut before the season by his new team because they aren't sure about him and decide to cut him lose before they have to really pay him. If we renegotiate a deal with him, let's say a one year guaranteed deal with an option for the second year, with the first year being around $10 mil, then he'd have the assurance that whatever team ends up with him would be fully invested for at least that whole first season, and would thusly be more patient with whatever bumps in the road he might have along the way while trying to regain his old form. I think it makes sense for both sides, but maybe that's just me...

  6. You're posting that everywhere, aren't ya?

Nope, I just posted it here cause shakedownstreet made me think of it, then I left this topic and saw there was one titled something about Caldwell drinking Koolaid, so I figured, 'what the heck', and put it there too.

  7. Manning has zero trade value. 28 million option due, 35million in base salaries due. Nobody else is going to pay that on top of giving up something we would be happy with in actually trading him.

    There are 3 options.

    He retires

He is a Colt next year,

His option is not picked up and he's a free agent free to sign anywhere.

    That is it.

Not true, there is another option. We could renegotiate his contract and then trade him. With the way that Peyton has handled his business in the past, I see every indication he would be willing to do such a thing. That way, he'd allow the Colts to get something out of him instead of taking a total loss, and he'd have more options as far as which teams he could go to. A real class move would be to see Irsay go ahead and pay him that enourmous bonus, then go ahead and trade him. Peyton deserves it, plus it'd take a bit of the heat off of Irsay for trading him.

  8. That's a small dline for a 3-4 team.

True, but perhaps with the size of Hightower and Upshaw at the LBs, and Mark Barron at SS, the lack of d-line size could be compensated for.

Or perhaps, say we lose Mathis to free agency and sign Paul Soliai, DT from the dolphins (6'4", 355lbs). Then we could have a d-line of:

    DE- Drake Nevis

    DT- Paul Soliai

    DE- Dwight Freeney

  9. How about: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB from Alabama, Dont'a Hightower, ILB from Alabama, and Courtney Upshaw, OLB from Alabama. Then in the 3rd round we could take Mark Barron, SS from Alabama. That'd be pretty sweet! They are all excellent players, and they've already got the continuity thing down. We could switch to a 3-4 defense with a lineup something like this:

    DE- Robert Mathis

    DT- Drake Nevis

    DE- Dwight Freeney

    OLB- Pat Angerer

    ILB- Donta Hightower

    ILB- Courtney Upshaw

    OLB- Kavell Conner/Jerry Hughes

    CB- Dre Kirkpatrick

    SS- Mark Barron

    FS- Antoine Bethea

    CB- Jerrod Powers

    Thoughts?

  10. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2011/11/oklahoma-ryan-broyles-knee-injury-out-for-season/1

I really had an eye on this guy as a good 2nd or 3rd round pick for us in April. He's an extremely talented receiver, good speed, precise route running, very good after the catch, and also an excellent kick returner. I hope he fully recovers and then maybe we can steal him in the 4th or 5th round.

  11. I would take: Justin Blackmon, Cordy Glenn, and Kelechi Osemele. This gives us our next elite WR for the next decade, and two mammoth top notch OGs to go along with our prize OTs we picked up in last year's draft. Then in the 3rd or 4th round we can pick up Ben Jones, C from Georgia, who has been playing alongside Cordy Glenn for the last several years. This will give us the makings of what could very likely be the best O-line in the league for many years to come! Glenn and Osemele are both 345 lbs plus! Imagine the running lanes!

We can address our defensive needs via free agency, with players that already know the ropes.

  12. Feedback, cool... I must tell everyone that I was fully aware of the ludacris nature of this post, but was compelled to do it. See, I think I might have a problem. I've formed a habit... I've been watching the Colts pretty much religiously since like 1987, and am obviously a diehard fan. These last 10 years or so I've gotten hooked on the endorphins that my hypothalamus produces while watching our Colts dominate the rest of the league. All those amazing performances, those Manning-lead comebacks, the glory, the pride... I'm an addict for that Colts junk! Right now, I'm living in the waking heck that is withdrawl. It's a nightmare I can't wake up from. The only thing I've found that seems to soothe this monkey on my back is dreaming of better days in the future of Colts land. So, it started immediately following our opener in Houston. I started considering the possibility of landing the top pick and what we could do with it to better the team for next year. It was a light at the end of the tunnel... Then we lost to Cleveland too. So I started daydreaming about the draft and trades more frequently. As we kept on losing, I began to think about these scenarios more and more frequently: when driving, while working, while my wife is talking to me, and even every night when I turn the lights out for bed. These last couple of weeks it's been getting out of control. The scenarios keep getting more and more absurd and outlandish, but I need them to stave off the pain of what's happened to our Colts. As the situation with the team gets worse and worse, I have to keeping increasing the dosage, both in potency and in frequency, of my little Colts fantasy land trips. I need help! Someone help me! Does anyone know of a good support group for what I'm going through here? Is there anybody...................................................................................out there?

  13. Alright, are you ready for part 18 trillion in the 'the Colts should make this or that trade and/or draft these or those players' series? Hold tight, this might get a little weird, here we go:

Let's say Manning comes back and practices towards the end of the season, maybe even gets a little game time. He shows every indication that he'll return to his old form. We finish 1-15 with the rights to the first pick in the upcoming draft. The 2012 NFL league year rolls around and we make the following moves:

Let Walk: Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis, Anthony Gonzales, Pierre Garcon, Jeff Saturday, Ryan Diem, Kerry Collins, and Jacob Lacey. Wayne and Mathis are going to want a significant payday, Garcon will likely get a decent offer from someone else that's more than we should pay, Gonzales and Lacey just stink, and Diem, Saturday, and Collins are just too old and need to move on. These moves (or lack thereof) will save us lots of cap space!

Cut: Donald Brown, Jerry Hughes, Gary Brackett, and Melvin Bullitt. Two 1st round busts and two mediocre/overpaid injured guys. Saves even more cap space!

Trade: Dwight Freeney, Joseph Addai, and Dallas Clark, possibly in a package deal. Let's say we package them to a team that's already a playoff contender that a move like this could be enough to put them over the top. Let's say the Lions, and we get their 2012 1st and 4th round picks in return (which based on their current record would be the 30th and 126th picks). In order to make this work, we might have to renegotiate some or all of their contracts as a condition of the trade. Otherwise their cap hit would probably be too much for Detroit. Once we unload these guys, we free up a huge amount of cap space for ourselves!

Sign Free Agents: Matt Flynn - QB from Green Bay (27), Carl Nicks - G from New Orleans (27), Dwayne Bowe - WR from Kansas City (27), Paul Soliai - DT from Miami (28), Tracy Porter - CB from New Orleans (26), and LaRon Landry - S from Washington (27). We'll have tons of cap room and actually be able to bring in guys off this caliber, all of which are from 26 to 28 years old, in their prime, and have a good 5-8 years left in the tank. But all are seasoned enough to be able to supply our team with much needed veteran leadership, since the vast majority of our own vets will be gone.

Surprise trade: In the days leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft, we make a blockbuster trade with the Vikings, sending them Peyton Manning and Austin Collie in a package deal in return for their 2012 and 2013 1st and 2nd round picks (which based on their current record would be the 7th and 39th picks in the 2012 draft). The trade sets off an enormous media blitz with many experts/fans outraged about it and many saying it makes sense and that Andrew Luck is destined for Indy. Manning is happy with the trade, in fact, he asks the front office for it.

Draft Day: As we go on the clock, everyone expects to hear us call Andrew Luck's name, but instead is shocked to instead hear that we've traded the #1 pick to Miami (who then drafts Andrew Luck, QB from Stanford) in return for their 2012 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks (#2, #34, and #66) and their 2013 1st and 4th round picks. Then we turn around and trade the #2 pick to the Rams (who then draft Matt Kalil, OT from USC) for their 2012 1st and 2nd round picks (#4 and #36). The Rams make the move cause they desperately want Kalil and are worried that Arizona will take him with the 3rd pick (which they end up using to draft Jonathan Martin, OT from Stanford). We then receive an offer from Seattle, which we accept, for the #4 pick (which they use to draft Matt Barkley, QB from USC) in exchange for their 2012 1st and 2nd round picks (#6 and #38). Seattle makes the move because Pete Carroll desperately wants Matt Barkley and is worried that Denver will knab him up with the #5 pick (which they end up using to draft Landry Jones, QB from Oklahoma). We then trade the #6 pick to the Browns (who then draft Alshon Jeffery, WR from South Carolina) for their two 2012 first round picks (#11 and #20 from Atlanta for the Julio Jones trade). We then draft as follows:

#7 (from MIN) - Justin Blackmon, WR from Oklahoma State

#11 (from CLE) - Quinton Coples, DE from North Carolina

#20 (from ATL via CLE) - Cordy Glenn, G from Georgia

#30 (from DET) - Manti T'eo - LB from Notre Dame

#33 IND - Peter Konz, C from Wisconsin

#34 (from MIA) - Jerel Worthy, DT from Michigan State

#36 (from STL) - Dwayne Allen, TE from Clemson

#38 (from SEA) - Chase Minnifield, CB/KR from Virginia

#39 (from MIN) - Jayron Hosley, CB from Virginia Tech

#65 IND - LaMichael James, RB from Oregon

#66 (from MIA) - Ryan Broyles, WR/PR from Oklahoma

#97 IND - Nick Foles, QB from Arizona

#126 (from DET) - Jeff Fuller, WR from Texas A&M

#129 IND - Trevor Guyton, DE from California

#161 IND - Tom Compton, OT from South Dakota

#193 IND - Kevious Watkins, G from South Carolina

And after all of that, we still have 3 first round picks, 2 second round picks, 1 third rounder, and 2 fourth rounders (as well as our 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks) in the 2013 draft!

Did your head explode? Alright, let me have it now...

  14. I quote "HAND THE GAME TO MIAMI" so that we don't get Luck. Read the original post. If Miami wins, it puts them out of the Luck camp. How is that stupid? But I do see why they wouldn't want to play him twice a year. I still think they'd rather an perpetually inept team get him than the cults. I was just a funny thought that came to me, "I wonder if Belichek is on the sidelines of that game thinking about it"

Dude, have the sense to realize when you've made a fool of yourself and it's time to retreat with your tail between your legs.
