I am not too happy about losing Bridgewater. But it is time to move on.

Nice to see you posting again. We miss you and RadioGirl.  I would appreciate another woman on the Baseball thread. :cheer2:

Hope both of you are well.

I'll be back on the baseball thread.  We have had a BUSY WINTER!  Good to see old friends again!

Yeah it seems different not having him Post on the Basketball Thread. He was on there a lot. Pacers have been a roll lately, he would be proud of them.

Yes he would have.  Brent and I are going to the game Monday.  I plan to enjoy a round with Brent in his memory!  RIP Gavin!

I wanted to first say thank you to everyone that has posted in this thread.  I have not been here as much as in the past, but I came on here and "Remembering" Gavin was the first thing I saw.

I remember when I first came to the new site, and I really had a difficult time with some of the old timers on here.  It did, as others have noted, seem like Gavin was on here all of the time.  I guess that means I was too. :)

With us it was me old school and Gavin new school.  As we know these two heads tend to 'come together' once in awhile.  We went back and forth so much, I think 8,000 of my posts were arguing/debating with Gavin. :)  Yesterday's stars for example.  I got a warning or two in my early tenure on this site.  Thanks Gavin!!! :sarcasm:

This kid wanted to learn everything, and was willing to research anything he needed to provide insight as well as debate information.  Even though we debated a ton, he asked me to go over the Offensive line schemes.  He wanted to learn!!

As time rolled on, I have to admit the old school guy was happy to see Likes going both ways.  Friendly comments instead of snide remarks.

The Colts, Cubs and Pacers have lost a great friend.  Peace is now.  Please rest.  We will miss you.:coltslogo:!!!

I loved hearing his passion for the Colts, Cubs, and Pacers!  Not everyone always agreed.  But we were all on the same team; so to speak.  We will miss him......

I do like how he doesn't go off on a tangent. But I will admit that I love listening to Bill Walton commentating games haha. You talk about a guy going on a tangent. It's funny as hell though

Did you see him this past year at the Hawaiian basketball tournament?  With those wild Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses on the whole time.  He looked like an ad for Panama Jack.  Sunglasses while he was broadcasting indoors.  Although, as I always say, it's always sunny when you're cool!  HA!

Dakich is literally a poor mans skip bayless who bought 100k in followers on twitter like a tool. He's never been great at anything but wants to criticize people that are great at what they do. A very average "talent" wanting to get some attention.

Great analogy with Bayless!  Spot on!

Don is a pretty good broadcaster as well. IU has truly had a great one there. Broadcasts football and basketball. Pretty impressive if I do say so myself

I agree!  And, he's a great dude.  I played on a softball team with him in my twenties for four years.  GREAT GUY!!!!  I like that he just calls the games and doesn't get off on long-winded tangents like other broadcasters do....

MSU basketball fan here -- in addition to being clueless about the NFL, the guy is awful to listen to during basketball games on ESPN as well, often trashing 18-19 year old kids. He really is just terrible all around. Why anyone would voluntarily subject themselves to listening to a radio show with him as host is astonishing. There must be a lot of masochists around these parts.

I think people like him because of his IU ties.  But, I have trouble stomaching his broadcasts.  I would rather listen to Polka music.  Nothing against Polka.  But, come on man!

New England Patriots Owner Robert Kraft Makes Classless Quip Regarding The Manning Family

Sportsmanship is important to the game of football. The old platitude goes "its not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game"

Kraft is clearly upset that Tom Brady was the only Super Bowl MVP that was booed at Super Bowl 50. That was awkward.

But while at the Super Bowl, Kraft says he ran into Archie Manning, and afterwards, capitalized on the opportunity to fire a shot across his bow.

“I happened to see Archie there,” Kraft said. “He has two sons who have won two Super Bowls [each]. But with all due respect, we have one son who's won four.”

Peyton Manning now has two rings. He's been to four Super Bowls. Three of those Super Bowl berths came at the expense of New England.

Eli Manning also has two rings, and both of them came at the expense of Kraft's Patriots. Methinks someone is still a touch bitter.

Collectively, the Manning family has been New England's biggest obstacle to total NFL domination. And God bless them for it

Not sure why he had to "one up" Archie.  Ick!

True...he is a very emotional player. People have been saying that since he came into the league....he was sitting on the sideline with a towel over his head for almost his entire 2nd season. Yet he learned to be a leader on his team he can't act that way...he needed to show a positive attitude in defeat etc. He is a work in progress lets say. Clearly he has room to grow we all saw the press event. That said I've never seen the losers have to give interviews next to the gloating winners before either...that was down right ridiculous...and I can sympathize that would have a great deal an effect on a guy just losing the biggest game of his life. Sit there and tell us why you lost and didn't play well while the opponent is bragging right next to him about he did exactly what we thought he would and we pounded him etc etc. Cam would have done himself a great service by sitting and answering and doing a better job but he just hasn't grown to be that kind of leader yet. He didn't come into the league as a protégé...grow up with a pro football father his whole life like Archie or Oliver. I think he will get better...he has improved every year on and off the field. I wasn't saying people hate him (though some might) just hating (basically trying to drag a guy down like the Peyton assault thread). When we get to the point we start commenting on the guys shoes then I think people are going out of their way to bash the guy...that was my main point was all.

I gotcha.  Agreed.  However, the shoes were hideous!  haha

  13. 2 minutes ago, dgambill said:

He congratulated Peyton after the game. I don't know what your saying there. I agree he could have handled the press event A LOT better...but now we are hating on a guy for wearing some flashy shoes....not even in the game but the pre-game. Wow...that said I shouldn't be surprised because we also hate on Tom for wearing Uggs...so go figure. If anyone's greatness threatens us...we try to tear them down. Cam still has a lot of growing up to do...but he is a great player...and fun to watch..and is good for the game. His pouting isn't good for the game...but I think he will watch himself and realize he looked foolish and get better. Peyton learned you don't go around ripping your "liquere up" kicker as well....people can change. For the NFLs sake and Cam's sake I think he will too...because like it or not he is soon going to be the face of the NFL.

Nobody said they hated him.  We all hope he changes.  But, he acted like a *.  Done.

Fact Many settle suits when 1 is innocent, just to avoid long drawn out issues to prove ones case where media takes control of what people hear &

whereby said issue is then repeatably brought up , one always wants to simply end things as fast as possible and somes $ if it is affordable is alot easier, if she had a true case she could of made so much more after he became an NFL qb as could of argued his future earnings be taken in consideration

the USA article from 2003 notes   settlement with the university related to the 1996 incident, , not with Peyton

Again, the entirety of the 74-page document published by the New York Daily Newswas prepared by the lawyers for Naughright in connection with an effort to win her lawsuit against Peyton and Archie Manning. It’s not apparent from Shaun King’s article ( I gave link in my first post ) that he sought comment or a response from Peyton or Archie Manning.  ( that's not unbiased journalism is it )

the author King already had a beef with Peyton after the SB win with this article

King: The racial double standard between Cam Newton and Peyton Manning is on full display after Super Bowl 50

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/king-super-bowl-50-highlights-racial-double-standard-nfl-article-1.2524445

so u got your 2 rises from  me enjoy, u wont get another I assure u, your comments weren't even worth the time I already took , let alone any more

Sounds like he did something stupid.  They paid her money so they wouldn't have to go to court.  It happens every single day.  She got paid.  If it was so awful, $300,000 wouldn't have been enough for her to scoot away.  It's done.  And Bayone is right, the King guy sounds like a real treasure.

I hav'nt heard any only bring that up if old news is fair game lets take a ride in the way back machine ...

I didn't pay a speeding ticket I got in another state coming back from spring break in 1984.  Alert the press...

Yes, he brought it on himself.  I agree with that.

His actions don't affect me either.

But MY actions do.  That is the part I was referring to, as far as personal growth.   I hope that in the future that I won't be so quick to judge someone's actions or openly criticize.  I'm not perfect.  No-one is.

A big chunk of this forum is for people to discuss and debate areas of football and other sports.  They leave opinions, vent, argue, celebrate, and speculate.  It's the nature of the forum.  I have seen so many posts on here about Tom Brady and his behaviors and how terrible people think it is.  I don't think it's bad for people to discuss their opinions and thoughts.  I don't think anybody should go toilet paper his house.  But, I didn't see anything on here that should make someone feel bad about what they said.  I certainly don't.  I wish Cam well.  I wish everyone well.  But, I can't believe the way he has behaved.  And, I take back what I said.  I did learn something very valuable from his behavior.  How NOT to act in victory or defeat.....

  17. 1 hour ago, Mrs. Misunderstood said:

    No, it wasn't.

I was just as vocal about Cam in the beginning of this discussion as anyone, both here and on the other thread.

After reading all the garbage being spewed all over the internet, about both Peyton and Cam this week, made me take a look at myself and my own comments, and I came to the conclusion of who am I to judge this young QB for his comments and actions.?

I hope he can grow from all of this.  I hope we all can.

I just hate that he declares to be a leader and young kids look up to him.  He represents the NFL as a MVP and behaves this way.  Yes, there is negativity about him going around.  But, he brought it on himself IMO.  I don't know that Cam Newton's actions are going to provide me with a huge personal growth opportunity.  His actions don't affect my life too much.  But, if I see someone act like that and declare his leadership...I'm gonna call foul.  And, not feel bad about it in the least.  And, if I act like a horses rear, I get called out on it just like the next person.  As I should.  I have people that hold me accountable.  I doubt that Cam Newton gives two hoots to what radio girl thinks about his behavior.  But, when you display your arrogance like he has....you're gonna probably hear about it.

My comment was not directed at you, or anyone on this forum in particular.

I, too,  found his behavior sad and off-putting.

I also find the behavior of those trying to take away from the Broncos win, and Peyton in particular, by posting trash and garbage from 20 years to take away from this moment, repulsive.

Sometimes my biggest accomplishment is keeping my mouth shut.

It must have been directed at me because I was vocal about how he behaved.  It was wrong and I said so.  So did others.  No biggie.  Happens a lot on many threads on here.  Opinions are opinions.  Nothing more.  This thread wasn't nearly as bad as deflate gate and others.  I don't think anybody here plans to visit Cam and ruin his day.

With all the trashing of both QB's from the Super Bowl, it seems like a lot of people have an agenda or an ax to grind.  I think we should all try to remember:

    10552590_587085858066556_403894324675751

Personally, I don't own an ax to grind.  I simply found his behavior atrocious.  He was on a national stage and is supposed to be a leader on his team.  I didn't think he acted like one.  I remember a deflate gate thread where lots of people were talking about how horrific deflating balls were and about how Brady was awful for not releasing his cell phone. Just because someone is expressing their opinion doesn't mean they mean harm to that person.  I hope Cam has a terrific Valentines day filled with lots of chocolate!  I still think he acted like a butthead.
