  1. Well that would bring about a few things.

    If the Broncos lose:

    1) Peyton no longer has "it."

    2) Steelers are going to the SB

    If the Broncos win:

    1) Peyton still has "it"

    2) Broncos are going to the SB

Either way Irsay still stinks because he just does and he doesn't listen to anyone but the guys he works with.

You make me laugh. In regards to the Manning take, not sure if you are being sarcastic or serious. I tend to think sarcastic. As far as Irsay is concerned, I understand your sentiment and respect it. I would also say that Irsay owns the team and what he does with it is up to him. Whether we like it as fans or not doesn't really matter as he's going to do what he feels is in the best interest for the team. If you really want to get into it, be mad at him for allowing the Polian's to run our team into the ground dating back to the draft following our super bowl, paying players too much money and not allowing them to go, and having pathetic draft after pathetic draft. Had Irsay held his people more accountable, we would never have been in a position to draft Luck in the first place as our team would have been much better. Regardless, what's done is done. Broncos are now down 5 with 10 minutes left. I bet you are getting nervous:) What I've gathered from watching this game is that Manning is still Manning. I am happy for him.

  2. I fought endlesslessy on the forums for over a year, warning after warning tirelessly walking on eggshells to say the obvious...again and again...don't fix what ain't broken. Don't take a chance on something that we already have when we Still can't stop the run and we still can't run. 45 attempts? Really? This isn't about Peyton vs luck or rg3 vs luck this is about irsay vs the fans and you all bit his bait hook line and sinker.

It was always about the money and not what what was right. Peyton should.have retired a colt. We should have traded the pick and got a good limenacker some plume and a rb. When Cleveland and the seahwawks have better records at the end of the season It will prove I was right.

Written from Baltimore where I chisel to go see the peoples over my beloved colts

You warned me for saying things about irsay, u

can ban me for saying the obvious. I love luck and this won't be his fault...he was set up to fail by irsay.

    Gg.

What will your position be if the Broncos lose tonight with Peyton behind center, at home and with a much better squad?

  3. And there you have it. He was still injured and the Colts are not investing time and money in injury prone players.

This would go down as another change compared to year's past. See: Gonzalez / Bob Sanders. Nice to see us finally learning some tough lessons.

  4. On the NFL Network, they released the 2012 opponents for each NFL team.

    Here's the 2012 Colts opponents:

    Home:

    Jax

    Hou

    Tenn

    Cle

    Buff

    Mia

    GB

    Minn

    Away:

    Jax

    Hou

    Tenn

    NE

    NYJ

    KC

    Det

    Chi

Seems like a pretty tough schedule....

    Comments?

I see six wins: JAX / Vikings / Cleveland / Miami / Buffalo / Jets

  5. Well bandwaggon fans or not without them we could likely say that Indy wouldn't still have a team. No franchise in as small a market as Indy can survive without all types of fans. Hopefully those Peyton fans will still feel some loyalty and spend money and root for the franchise but who knows. Its really easy for people to sit here and scream their "fandom" and question others. I am a huge Colts fan ever since they came to Indy. My whole family is Bears fans. Only when we got Peyton did they become fans and likely will stop now unless the Colts give them a reason to root for them. Its hard for those fans to root for a team that turned its back on the very reason they have been successful for the last dozen years. The very reason they even made the playoffs. Sorry he could only carry the team that far! When all parts worked together they got to two super bowls. Anyways...I have been a Colts fan since they arrived in Indy and as a young kid that was all I knew but as a loyal die hard fan I also feel it is my right to absolutely rip them when I am upset and hurt by a decision they made. That is my right and many people on this forum felt the same way. Made them no less loyal. It was the team that wasn't loyal to Peyton not the other way around so many people didn't like that. Now I am very grateful and respectful of all our fans..the hardcore and the casual...and I don't get off on telling people they are not as good a fan as I am like some. My point is just be careful who you perhaps are targeting because some of those fans that are truely upset with the Colts right now are just as loyal as you. They just speak their displeasure. It is kinda like being patriotic...sometimes you have to speak out and stand up to the govt to be truely patriotic if you feel it is in the best interest of the country....or this case the team.

All good points. I respect any and all opinions and ask the same from anyone else on mine. I also take no offense to anyone having a problem with anything directed toward me based off what I write in a derogatory way. At the end of the day, and this is my opinion that also seems to be shared with most other level headed colts fans as well as seemingly every analyst and sports writer, the Colts not resigning Manning was in the best interest of our franchise. To Agree or disagree with that doesn't really matter b/c it won't change the outcome. Honestly and unselfishly, I am happy for Peyton b/c his chances of winning another ring are better with Denver then Indy. I also couldn't stand the thought of him having a young stud riding the bench behind him and looking to the future of him getting possibly booed and people begging for his replacement to take over for him. That is a situation that, again IMO, was sure to happen had he stayed and we had Luck or RG3 on the bench behind him. Should that hypothetical had played out, IMO, would have been far worse an ending to his career in Indy than what actually took place. Listen, I get it that people are bummed and natually look for people to blame and point fingers. If there's anything that bothers me and I can appreciate people being upset, is when Irsay essentially stating that if Peyton could play, he would be a Colt. Obviously other factors are in play, but to make that statement and not follow through was a foul, IMO. Regardless, Peyton is gone and I wish him all the best and am so grateful for the memories he provided me and my family over the years in going to games and wathing him on tv. However, it's time to move on and appreciate what we had and embrace the future. I choose to look toward the future and not live in the past and go through the what could have been's over and over. I get it that people want to jump the Colts ship, trash Irsay, play hypotheticals, etc. I love all that is Colts footballs, including the bashers, bandwagoners and those who bleed blue no matter the record of our team. Go Horse. Go Blue. Out.

  6. Two post - I am excited about this franchise's future. How lucky are we as fans to get Manning in 98, then Luck right after.

Second - I liked the post and the tongue in cheek humor in it..until the OP called "pre-manning" fans "Punks."

LISTEN OP - that was an ignorant statement - fans becomes fans at certain times of their lives. Peyton brought a lot of young fans to this team who are not only Manning fans, but are Colts fans and FOOTBALL fans. So essentially a fan is a "pre-something" fans.

Those bandwagon fans are the ones who helped built LOS stadium......

I don't know about the rest of you, but I can embrace the future without tarnishing the past.

Let me clarify my "punks" reference. This references the fans who will bail on this club now that 18 is gone. No question PM did inmeasurable good things for this franchise, including growing the fan base. As a fan that grew up going to Colts games in a 3/4 full dome and was only full when a well traveled opposing team's fan base came to play, I can fully appreciate a sold out LOS complete with Blue jerseys. What I can't appreciate is fans bailing on the Colts now that PM is gone. These fans aren't Colts fans. Their spoiled rotten fans who are loyal to a player, not a franchise, and are the same fan who maintained the "there's always next year" montra in all the years we crashed and burned in the playoffs as they never experienced the misery that existed prior to PM getting to Indy. I get it. I understand it. But my member name is as much about being a colts fan before the greatest QB of all time arrived in Indy as it is about still being a huge fan now that he's gone. I bleed blue for the horseshoe. Anyway, don't take offense chief. If you are still a fan with PM gone, then great. If you are one of the bandwagon fans who is bailing and/or trashing the Colts now that 18 is gone, then the punk reference applies.

  7. I do disagree with number 10, I dont want to see Luck have to run alot although its gonna happen for a while at least no doubt, but at least we know he can

I agree, BUT.......I don't know how old you are or if you are old enough to remember Elway in the 80's. He had an enormous gun and threw a ton of bombs scrambling out of the pocket or running for first downs early in his career. Ironically, many comparisons are being made to Elway and Luck. They both went to Stanford and both will likely be drafted by the Colts. I say we get this Stanford stud and I hope he's as good as Elway was and I'd love it if his game mirrored Elways. Elway in his early years was a blast to watch. He always extended a play with his arm, legs or a combination of the two.

  8. I like what you're doing, but I don't believe having Peyton meant we couldn't have most of those things you listed. Peyton didn't demand a soft cover 2 shell defense, he didn't make Kelvin Hayden one of the hightest paid corners in the league, he didn't pick Caldwell as his coach. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

The 10 things you listed and having Peyton Manning are not mutually inclusive.

Indeed........but it all falls under the realm of change and new direction. It would have taken me forever to come up with 10 reasons exclusive to Manning and several were mentioned tongue in cheek and good fun. We've had enough doom and gloom for the past 3 weeks. Time to lift the clouds, open the blinds, let the sunshine come in and see that our future is bright. Personally, I am sad to see it go and even more sad our run didn't come with more rings. But the excitement is in rebuilding and I can't wait to be a part of it.

  9. 1. No need to rest starters if not in the playoffs, where is the upside?

2a. A spirited pre season is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

    2b. No argument

    4. Fullbacks are glorified blockers so why is it important to have one on the roster?

    5. Grigson will find a way to talk out both sides of his mouth too.

    6. Dungy was pretty stoic and look where that got them. Rex Ryan is emotional, what did it get him?

    7. Ohhh yeahhhh!

    8. I already miss the footwork, thought it made for quicker response time.

    9. Unless the favorite comes from behind in the last 2 minutes.

10.Okay, another good point but it also leaves the team more open to fumbles and sacks.

I'm not trying to insult anyone here, I just need better reasons than these to appreciate the change in quarterbacks.

As far as my #1 reason, your counter point isn't necessarily true. We have a change in coaching and management. The Saints, Packers and PATS all had their shots at greatness and went for it. Not having decide to rest your starters doesn't mean you are going to suck. I won't go into countering the rest of your points to mine. As I outlined, I said some of these tongue in cheek. My advice to you is to get over it. Peyton is gone and isn't coming back. Our future is bright and while people inherantly resist change, change is good and exciting. This is our team.......move forward with them.

  10. And thank you for trying to bring a positive look at things back to the forum.

No problem. I've been wanting to do this post for awhile but needed to have some personal healing myself. Now that Peyton is officially gone and with another team and seeing the new direction our club is headed along with the uncharacteristic FA activity, new defensive scheme, and a fresh new start beginning with the upcoming draft, it has me excited. The future is here, it just happened sooner than we all expected.

  11. I've been looking at the offense and see a few glaring holes. The O-line is in transition with Saturday gone to GB and Diem retiring. Are we switching from a zone scheme to a more man-power blocking scheme? Are the FAs we've signed so far going to be enough to improve the overall blocking performance? I'm still a little leery about RT and at least one OG position. We are obviously barren of pass-catching talent at TE. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they re-signed Dallas Clark now that he's not becoming a Bronco. I'm not sure that Donald Brown can handle the load at RB. Our WR corps right now consists of Wayne, Collie, and White (returning from injury). I personally feel that Wayne should be moved to #2 position that he played when Harrison was around and we need to find another #1 guy. Collie's good in the slot and White will complete our 4-wideout sets. Our defense will obviously need help in the secondary and I'm not sure how everybody else fits into the new 3-4 look. I look for

Freeney to be cut before the season starts. He doesn't fit the new system and nobody wants to sign him under his current contract because of his $19 million salary cap hit this year. It's very frustrating to see all this talent leave the team with no compensation in draft picks.

No question we have several needs. However, I would say our biggest need is in the secondary.

  12. 6. I'm not sure about the emotion thing, I mean Tony Dungy, Tom Landry, George Siefert,& Tom Flores were not exciting guys on the sidelines, all won superbowls.not everyone can be as emotional as Scott Linehan. Now if the players are as emotional (team leaders) as an emotional coach then yes !

Again, all respect to our coaches, particularly Dungy. This is a personal preference. As a man, I loved Dungy and Caldwell. You can't hate on anyone deep in moral character and won't sell that out for anything. I just like a more emotional leader wearing a head set. I also think Dungy and particularly Caldwell, got outcoached many times during critical game moments. Whether it was *ic challenges or calling timeouts, which Dungy did at Tennessee that cost us the game by Bironas hitting a stupid 60 yard fg or the infamous one made by Caldwell against the JETS.

  13. I actually don't mind Polian speak...and in fact, I think Grigs is doing it very well. He barely says anything to the media to show his hand.

As for Peyton's happy feet, I think that was a great attribute to have as a QB. If you play flat-footed, you aren't able to move as easily and are more susceptible to getting sacked

Only time will tell on Grigson. For now, I think he has done the best with the situation. It was obvious Irsay was calling all the shots on the cuts and Manning and Grigson remained essentially a mute on the entire topic. I think as he continues to put his stamp on this team, he will become more animated and fan friendly. It will be interesting to see if he does the traditional Monday night talk show and if it gets streamed on the internet. With us being more of a nat'l franchise now, it would only be fan friendly. As a displaced Colts fan in Texas, I for one would appreciate this. In regards to the Happy Feat, I mention that on a personal level. I realize it's good mechanics and why it's a good thing, but with it being my post, it was something that always made me nervous. That and the fact his feet seemed to always be more noticeably happy than any of the other 31 qb's in the league.

  14. He never had happy feet. It's sad that so many people do not understand that concept. If you want to see happy feet watch Vick when he fails to read a defense and gets confused and bails on the play. That is happy feet.

Manning's chopping/pumping of the feet is a flawless technique that allows him to throw at any given second.

I am sure you are 100% correct. Regardless, the happy feat never gave me the warm and fuzzies. Always made me nervous.

  15. number 7 made me chuckle a bit..

I have never agreed with number 8, at least in that it was a bad thing.

When the feet got happy, more times than not it indicated something bad was about to happen, whether it be an incomplete pass, sack, int, etc. Regardless, I did my best to keep the top ten light, funny, a bit ridiculous and true. I think I touched on all of those. Anyway, I am excited about being the underdog again. It's going to be fun.

  16. Ok, now that the dust has settled, the range of emotions have subsided and the tears have dried from our eyes, it's time to focus on the upside of what is being called a 2-3 year rebuild of our franchise. I say this somewhat tongue in cheek, but here we go with my top 10:

    1) We no longer have to debate about resting our starters in the early part of December. We can expect to see our starters giving their all each and every week.

2a) We can expect a much more spirited and competitive pre-season. Not because our philosophy of player evaluation will necessarily change, but I believe we will have much more balanced team talent wise and not have fat cats at the top sucking all our cap money leaving us with a dramatic drop in talent to fill special teams and non-skill positions.

2b) After we get rid of the $38mm in dead money this year, we will have some serious doe rae me to sign some talent at much needed areas and become a deep and talented football team.

    4) With all rebuilding, we will have a new brand of Colts football that is looking more and more like it's built by solid O line combined with a fullback, that's right a fullback with the horseshoe on their helmet, and a 3-4 scheme.

    5) No more Polian speak.

    6) A coach that will show different emotions where our previous coach showed the same whether we just advanced to the super bowl over the Jets or got thumped by the Saints by 50 points.

    7) The potential of having another QB wearing the #12 that is better than any other QB wearing the same # in the league.

    8) No more Peyton happy feat

    9) The joy in winning as the underdog always outweighs the satisfaction from winning as the favorite

    10) A scrambling QB and a possible return of the stretch play.

I'll miss Peyton and I can only hope that when he retires, he does it next to Irsay and I can't wait to go to Canton to see him join the HOF. Go Horse!

  17. If Jim Irsay was going to release/cut Peyton Manning and let him go to another NFL franchise, why in the world would he continue to allow Manning to utilize team facilities, team trainers, and team doctors (costing Irsay money) in order to "rehab" himself to play for a team that would compete against Irsay's.

Irsay has very obviously NOT made a decision on the future of Peyton Manning.

The reason we know is b/c both Irsay and Manning have said that if Manning is able to play, he will be in Indy. I really think the only question is whether Manning will ever be able to play again. Honestly, and this is very painful to say write this, I think it would be best for him to go somewhere else. I say this only b/c I think the situation surrounding him will only implode with having his backup be a #1 overall pick in Luck or whomever it may be. Fast forward to the season and let's say Manning is here with Luck as his backup. Say Manning has a couple bad games. Then all of a sudden we have people asking for Manning to be benched in favor our future, Luck. I don't want to see this happen to Peyton. I think this situation has the potential to explode and make the Favre saga in Green Bay and Minnesota look like a walk in the park. I don't know, maybe it's just me. It would be hard enough on Manning being healthy for the doubters to not come out with Luck riding the bench and Peyton not having all universe stats each and every week. Winning cures everything, but I think it would turn into a toxic situation should he be with the Colts along with Luck, regardless of his health status. The fact there is so much unknown surrounding his arm strength only compounds the situation.

  18. Of all the seasons during Peytons time with the Colts which team season wise do you feel was the strongest overall talent wise?

IMO, that is an easy answer. The 2005 Colts.

    Key Personnel:

WR: Wayne / Harrison / Stokely

    TE: Clark

    RB: Edge / Rhodes

    LT: Glenn

    DE: Freeney / Mathis

    S: Sanders (Future DPOY)

    LB: Bracket / Thornton

    CB: Jackson / Hayden

    Offensive Rank Points scored: #2

    Defensive Rank Points Allowed: #2

Point Differential on the Season: +192 / #1 overall

We won 14 in a row only to drop our final 2 regular season games and then got bounced by Pittsburgh who went on to win the super bowl. Most disappointing season in the history of the franchise including this season IMO.
