  1. I don't know, maybe we could have used him...or Brown...or Samuel...you know, those guys you passed up. I know, big draw back, these three guys didn't go to Ohio State so that had to knock them down a peg or two for you.

Maybe it's time to re-evaluate how you rate wide receivers, unless of course Fountain actually plays in a real game for the first time in his 3rd year.

Maybe your Ohio State area scout needs evaluation too.

  2. For all the posters that say trade up for Burrow. I would love it...i think he will be great. But absolutely no way will the Bengals trade the pick. They tanked for him. Burrow is from Ohio and it will be a marketing bonanza for the cheap Bengals ownership. I just hope he doesn't get abused like Luck did by an awful OL...he seems like a really good kid. Love his accuracy as a passer too...10 times better than scatter gun Brissett.

  3. Merry Christmas to all...still have about 9 hours of Christmas left here in Spokane, WA.  Shoot, I even wish McDaniels, Ebron, Belichek, Kraft, Brady, and a host of other Colts antagonists a Merry Christmas!

...did Nyheim Hines just single handedly save the special team coach's job?

After kicking issues all season, blocked kicks, blocked punts, you'd think the guy was guaranteed gone.  And then Hines sets a team record for return yards and scores two TD's.

I think the coach owes Hines a very nice Christmas present.

The special teams coach had to be just about the most excited guy in the bldg after the 2nd return. He quickly called home and told his wife  "Hon, you can quit working on my resume".

Right now I would take almost anybody with an open mind instead of Rigid Reich and Bonehead Ballard.

I'm not a 100% Ballard guy, but I can't agree with your statement. Ballard and Reich hopefully learn from their sticking with "nice, team guys" even when those guys are failing. And if they learn how things can spiral out of control when you do that, they will be better for it. I don't like Tomlin, or anything Pittsburg, but he at least has the guts to make changes...and his team is better for it.

Kelly playing wouldn’t solve anything.  If he played well, we still can’t trust him enough at this point (on and off the field) to make him Plan A.  Kelly will compete for back-up QB duties next year (assuming he keeps his nose clean), no matter what happens ahead of him on the depth chart...

I think that is a big part of Kelly's not playing...mgt will not go to him, even in a mop up, till they totally trust Kelly the man.

We are horrible on the left side of the OL in terms of negative plays. That said, the left side is also 4th best in the league on power rushes (on 3rd or 4th down, with 2 or less yards to go)

IMO it's a few things, but mostly predictability because teams don't see us as a pass threat. They simply know we're likely to run left on early downs behind AC and Nelson. After predictability, I'd say Reich relies on zone blocking schemes (slow developing run plays) instead of hitting the hole hard (man blocking schemes). I'd also add that I absolutely hate Hines running between the tackles on early downs. He's just not that guy.

Here's a good sortable look at how we fare on the OL broken down by Left, Middle, and Right in several categories.

    http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&offensiveStatisticCategory=OFFENSIVE_LINE&role=TM&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-p=1&d-447263-s=RUSHING_LEFT_10PLUS_YDS_EACH

I think it's a mix of JB not checking into the right play, and scheme. Also perhaps packages (certain RBs). Mack and Williams are better IMO running behind man blocking schemes, while Wilkins is better picking his hole behind a zone.

But yes, I'd prefer going hard core power (man scheme) with Mack or Williams on 1st down. And believe me, the OL guys prefer power/man too.

Agreed. I thought we'd see far more of this. I gave up though after the first quarter of the season. Reich is pretty dead set on trying to chew clock and be a possession run team with JAB at the helm. IMO, it would actually help JB and give him less time to think.

I think this might be a product of Reich trying to help JB too much, or not trusting JB enough. We all know JB isn't great at IDing Ds, or checking into the right plays, so perhaps Reich feels he needs to provide too much from the sideline.

I just wanted to say I thought your post was well thought out...especially your idea about the fire drill at the LOS.

  8. It's not a complaint but I find it odd that the article mentions Brissett came to Reich with ideas. If I was underperforming at work, I'm not sure management would take my ideas seriously. But maybe there is some value in some disclosures like "I am uncomfortable in this formation" or "The second option should be o the same side of the field as the first option so I can be sure to see both" kind of things. Or "Glowinski doesn't like me, so he keeps letting his man through the line", lol.

Something about the not letting Kelly to take some snaps seems like the Colts know they would never be totally comfortable with him, so they are not even going to go down that road as long as there are other options.

that doesnt mean much he was probably asked a question and gave a coach speak answer

you dont see many head coaches saying we are definitely going to take a QB in the draft while the season is still going

I sure hope you're right...it could be coach speak.

  10. By the way, I agree with poster Peter Bowman, we do need a qb bad, but just drafting one to draft one isn't the answer...if they don't see real talent in the draftee, don't go there...trade Brissett and salary offset for Foles (a Super Bowl winning qb under Reich), hope Jamesis stupidly becomes a free agent and coach him up....look at all the options....just don't blindly stick with a qb who in two seasons hasn't really improved.

I didn't listen to the presser. He said the team wouldn't be drafting a QB after a game? That's strange on multiple levels and I hope he's wrong (is aware of the issues with JB), or as you say, this will get everyone fired if it goes on too much longer (ie, next year doing this again, with no plan to fix the problem).

it was said during the MNF football broadcast, during the game, in about the 3rd qtr if I remember right. Booger, I think was quoting Reich...and they were showing the quote in type on the screen.

  12. Reich's quote during the game last night that Brissett is my guy and we won't be drafting a Qb was a totally depressing thing to hear. Blind allegiance from him and Ballard will get them both fired eventually. Brissett may be a good company man, fine in the locker room, etc but it is what you do on the field that produces wins. How long before scatter gun, innacurate throws from Brissett turn the wrs against him? Or the defense is mad about always being on the field or we arent scoring points so they almost have to pitch a shutout? Or players start to question so called leadership for not replacing Vinatieri or the way that Ebron quit on the Colts?
