  1. Rather you like it or not Irsay pretty much cast judgement on Ballard last year and felt he had done a good enough job he deserved a second chance. Irsay had to know they were going with a rookie QB when that decision was made and that meant he was going to have to give Ballard or his replacement three to four years. He elected to go with Ballard and we are going into year two of that window. Irsay pretty much wiped what happened before last year from Ballard’s record by keeping him. That includes both the good and bad. Ballard has to make this work with Richardson or he’s going to be gone in all likely hood. Still he’s going to get three or four years to do it rather fans like it or not.
  2. Wanting to see him change means it’s expected he will. He’s not going too. good, bad, indifferent this is who Ballard is.
  3. He’s spending money. He’s just spending it on his own not the big splashy free agents that go for eye popping numbers on day one. That’s exactly who he’s told people he is since day one. Why people keep expecting him to morph into someone else is beyond me.
  4. Now if they get Moore back they will have kept all their own I hoped they would. I never really expected Blackmon back.
  5. I think it’s an option. I also wouldn’t rule out them drafting another running back as well to compete with Hull and maybe Sermon.
  6. Until Richardson gets hurt and everyone yells bloody murder at Ballard for not having a quality backup and not learning from other times the starter has been hurt. Not a great plan to have a rookie backing up a QB who is in his second year and having missed most of last season.
  7. this was the guy the 49ers took with the pick the Colts sent them for Buckner and to replace Buckner. Colts clearly won that trade.
  8. Moss was a good player but he wasn’t a game changer like Taylor is. You can replace guys like that and we all know running back is maybe the most replaceable position in the NFL unless you have a true game changer like Taylor is. The odds the Colts were going to sign both was always very small if nonexistent.
  9. That’s part of why I never bought into the idea Ballard would “go all in” like some wanted this off-season you have a QB who played a very limited amount in college and then most of last year. Those who think there isn’t going to be a major learning curve for Richardson, especially as teams get film on him, are kidding themselves. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t impressive last year and it doesn’t mean he can’t be great but even Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck who were much experienced and polished coming into the NFL had learning curves that can only over come by playing. This team is still building the roster around Richardson. I think Ballard is looking at guys he brings back or ultimately brings in and going will they be helping us two years from now or three years from now because that’s when Richardson should be ready to take them on a run. I also think that means Ballard is comfortable going younger at some spots than fans want, like the secondary last year, or the tight end room (minus Mo) or maybe even the running back spot behind Taylor if they don’t bring someone in because he knows he has a little time to let these kids develop. yes I know that’s not what fans want to hear and yes I know only two playoff trips since Ballard took over as GM and only one play off win but the reality is Irsay cast judgment on his first six years of his career last off-season and decided to bring him back and pretty much reset the window on Ballard knowing he was taking a rookie QB and that was at least a three year window for Ballard if not four. As Ballard said you can’t keep everyone.
  10. Hard pass https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/2017/02/09/woman-punched-by-oklahoma-s-joe-mixon-says-assault-occurred-after-she-rejected-sexual-advances/
  11. In all likely hood if you trade for Higgins you aren’t going to have a first to get Bowers and that’s even if the bengals will honor his request to be traded.
  12. I didn’t say that’s the plan I want I was just answering the question to what’s the cheapest option.
  13. He’s already got a large part of the offense. He has a true franchise back, two very good WRs and third some think will flourish with Richardson and a very good o-line. They have several promising tight ends and if hey get Moss back I don’t think you need much on offense. Maybe another WR or TE like Bowers if he’s there. Beyond that maybe a guard for depth which can come in the later rounds.
  14. Cheapest would just be Sam he’s already accounted for.
  15. Reminder Samson who was major factor in the defense last year wasn’t a first day signing. Give it time.
  16. colts recap Kept: Anderson Pittman Grover Lewis extended: Franklin Lost: Gardner still FAs Moore Moss Blackmon Rigo (others but they aren’t major names)
  17. A rookie backing up a second year QB who missed almost all of last year isn’t a great idea.
  18. Franklin also wasn’t a free agent. He was extended a year early. So he was going to be back regardless.
