Houston fans are as bad as Indy fans when it comes to whining when they lose. "It's coach's fault.... it's the QB's fault.... it's the GM's fault." When all along the teams that lose do so because they are not as good as the team that beat them.

I've never seen a coach panic while up 17 point before. O'Brien panicked when he called the stupid fake punt. His team sensed the panic from their leader, and melted down.

He's made some questionable decisions in terms of personnel I will admit.

But at the same time, dude sure wins a lot for a guy who is nearly universally viewed to be bad coach/manager.  He has won the AFC south 4 out of the 6 years he's been coaching Houston.  His only losing season is in 2017 when he lost his quarterback (along with several other key players) to injury.

Don't get me wrong, it's not just on here that people think he's a terrible coach.  That view seems nearly universal and some of his recent trades left me scratching my head.

But he sure wins a lot for someone who's so universally viewed as a terrible coach.

Did you watch the Texans/Chiefs playoff game? If you blow a 24-0 lead, and get blown out in the process, you should be fired. The fake punt up 17 should have cost him his job too. He sucks at coaching and gets promoted. It's laughable Houston is stuck with this *.

Funch is a proven WR2. He was drafted to be a WR1, didn't live up to a 1, but would make a decent 2.

Too soon to grade Campbell. He missed camp and was hurt off and on all year. Having JB as a QB, who doesn't like to throw to the seam, didn't make it easy on him when he did play.

In theory, you are correct. Ballard tried to address this position, but it did not work out. We need a different approach. Yes, Campbell could pan out, but I wouldn't not draft another WR because Campbell is on the roster. We need competition across the board. Maybe a reason Campbell was bad is because nobody pushed him.

It's not like Ballard hasn't tried. He brought in one of the top FAs (Funch), and drafted a guy in the second round. It's not his fault both were injured almost all year. That's just freak level type bad luck. Both were seen as legit WR2 talents coming in. Funch was drafted to be WR1 originally. A starting line up with a healthy TY, Funch, and Campbell would have been one of the most talented in the league. Got to have a QB that can maximize that talent though too.

This class of WRs is very very deep. You're going to get typical first round talent into the 2nd round. Your going to get second round talent going into the 3-5 rounds. There are lots of guys I can see being a legit WR2 mocked in the 5th.

And using Harrison/Wayne, and Wayne/TY is not really reality in terms of WR2. Harrison, Wayne, and TY were all WR1s lol. It's rare for teams to have 2 of those level guys at the same time. We lucked out during those years just like we lucked out with the drafting PM and AL as our last two QBs.

I do agree though, we need to do something. My strategy would depend on what we do at QB though.

Ballard tried to address the WR problem last year, but it was a swing and a miss. I am over trying out veteran, unproven WR's to fill a need. If Ballard wants to buy a FA WR, he needs to make sure he buys a good one. I liked Campbell at Ohio St, but he looked lost out there last season. Not comfortable relying on him to be a significant piece going forward.

So you want to have the best WR unit in the league, expending draft capital for 2 first round WRs and a 1st round TE, and not interested in improving a below average QB, Pass rush, and pass D early.

I would agree it's typically not the best draft strategy to invest in 2 WR's high in the draft. However, we have not had a WR2 since Reggie Wayne retired. Let's stop messing around, and fix this seemingly never ending weakness.

  6. Just because Rock was a PFF all pro, can we please stop pretending he had a good Rookie season. Spoiler Alert: he didn't.

I'd also like to address Banagu and his performance. He should also get some heat. For a second round pick, he did next to nothing. I hope they turn it around, but Ballard's 2019 second round picks were bad their Rookie years.

Your opinion Mr Negative. Can't recall you ever having a positive feeling about any Colt.

I'm on record saying Luck should have won, at least, 2 MVP's. As a Rookie, Luck took that team with no running game, no offensive line, and no defense to an 11-5 record into the playoffs. None of the great QB's have accomplished this, and I don't think we will ever witness this again.

I agree that Glow regressed this year.  But the reasons are unknown at this time.

The idea about competition is nonsense.  Glow graded out well last year.   He was rewarded with a starter level contract.   Who was supposed to be brought in to compete against a guy who we just said “this guy is our starter”..??     Guys like Haeg and Andrews are our interior backups.  This is what NFL o-line’s look like.

If Ballard spends a 3 or a 4 on a guard then maybe we're reconsidering Glow.  But until then, you have to believe the Colts think they can get him back to 2018 Glow and not 2019 Glow.

I don't know if you have ever competed in sports before, but competition brings out the best in you. In 2018, we signed Glow off the street, and he had to work very hard to prove he's a capable starter. He played well, and earned the contract, but had a different mind set knowing he would be starting. Didn't have to worry about getting cut or benched. My take is that Ballard should have made sure to sign or draft another Guard to make Glow sweat. Didn't play with same sense of urgency knowing his job was safe, regardless of performance.

  9. Glowinski got exposed this season. Every time he had to block a premiere player, Glow got manhandled. This is what happens when there is no competition for a starting roster spot. Ballard needs to find another Guard to compete with Glowinski.

Besides the grabbing, Rock had a good year for a CB. Only Courtland Sutton destroyed him and he's a 6'4 physical receiver. Rock got better as the year went on to me. Probably played like a 2nd rounder. We also had little pass-rush though, so that was a big factor as well.

Once you have seen Sutton torch Rock, you cannot un-see this horrifying image. This is my biggest hang-up. Until I see Rock hold his own against a quality WR, I will continuing viewing Rock unfavorably.

  11. I guess I'm cynical after Quincy Wilson. Every off season, the local media hyped him up. Created narrative that he was working very hard, and was poised for a breakout year. Since Wilson has busted, and they look foolish, the media is already doing this trick for Rock.

I get hammered for being critical  My biggest cristisim of Ballard is that he is drafting players for a scheme that I think is not functional when u run it over 80% of the time. Plus the players he has drafted  on D haven't really lit it up.  They r undersized and we play zone to much.

People come back  at me that Leonard is 2nd team all pro and  Nelson is 1s team. Every fan here was jumping off their chairs when he was available at 6, I don't give him credit for that pick. I see Leonard as a light undersized linebacker.  Sure he does make plays but gets blown up against the run. Watch the tape.  It is typical of this D to basically have safeties playing the lb position.

Now if Ballard manages to beef up the D line, he may change my view.

However, those guys r hard to find.  History has shown that we plug in D ends at tackle. I hated it under Dungy and now even more with the evolution and sophistication  of today's  QBs and offensive coordinators.

I mean Hooker was going to be that great safety; not so far. Wilson has been a bust and Basham is gone. Sin scares me as he gets beat a lot unless he mugs his guy. I like Oerekee (spelling) but once again he is light.  Touray looks great and is hurt.  I think that was a knock on him coming out of college. Banagou is young and light so we shall c. That's a lot of guys to miss on if u r rebuilding the D.

My brother in law  played at the college level, coaches a lot and he is a Tennessee fan. He jumped for joy when he heard we were going back  this style of D.  My son played ball for the CFL and he is  not a fan of this style of D.  I could b totally wrong and I hope I am.

The one thing I was so disappointed in last year was not grabbing Simmons.  This D is predicated on the 3 technique position.  Without those DT's, it is useless. I even banged the table for Suh; we had the money.  My fav draft guy last year was Simmons; check my posts. I said back then that if u can get a top 5 talent in the 20's, u move up to take him. Luck was our expected qb and I thought we would not have a chance at a guy like Simmons for a long time. Plus, this D does not run unless u have a guy like him.  The rumour was that is why the Colts  moved back to the 2nd because Simmons was gone. Simmons going to the Titans really irked me.

Ballard likes his picks,  but sometimes u just have to go for it. Now u can start swinging at me hahaha.

Completely agree with this take. Ballard has had too many misses on defensive players. Heading into the 4th year, this Defense is still bad. Best case: Turay breaks out and gives our pass rush a formidable 1-2 punch with Houston. Ballard must find premier DT as well. Cover 2 will not work without pass rush from front 4.

Well, it's not a contradiction but it's something that could be said about just about nay player... when you ignore their bad plays, they played well.

But I do agree, we have seen flashes from Campbell.  If (and right now we have to consider that a big if) he can stay healthy, I expect big things from him next year.

What flashes? He had 127 yards for the season. Every NFL player will occasionally make a play or two. I remember the TD completion, which was a layup. I also remember a long run, where he tackled himself. He was also a complete disaster returning punts.

Campbell never got a chance to really get going. He would  get back in and get injured again. Take away the fumbles against the Steelers and he was impressive. He had 80 yards before Jacoby got injured. He played on a broken foot most of that game too. We seen flashes.

Above is a very big contradiction lol.

Anyone that know anything understands that after pick 15 or so in ANY draft, the following picks up to about pick 40 have very similar grades.
So this means you don't know doodle, what you are talking about.
     Thanks for the knowledge.

Yes. Exactly. Rock Ya Sin was a way better pick than DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel.
