  1. Depending on things fall, I can see 4 QB's going in the first 5 picks easily. Denver had the most representatives at the Baker Mayfield Pro Day Wednesday, and Keenum is not the answer long term for them. Reversion is likely.

Of course if Denver does not pick a QB, and Cleveland goes Barkley or Chubb at 1 or 4 which is likely, then there will be one of the four QB's left at pick number 6. What if NYG don't take a QB, then maybe two left at pick number six. In that case, what if Indy were to go back to Buffalo, Miami or Arizona's spot. I would prefer the quality player, but think of the haul we would get, and I would think Ballard would make sure a 1st possibly from next year, unless Buffalo was trading. Regardless, although I love the trade, it is possible to trade back again depending on how the first 5 picks go.

On a separate note, with these extra draft picks, and the possibility of another trade for more, I am glad we have not gone out and spent a ton on FA. First off, there was only a couple of players I could even argue were worth the money that was being handed out. Second, this means we walk into next season with a lot of cap space and have given last years draft class more time to develop, and this years draft class to get a year under its belt. There will be a lot of new starters this year, and having a two years to look at last years class, and one year for this years will give us a much better idea about using that FA money for quality next year.

One last point for all those screaming about the Oline, this pick was perfect. When you consider Hernandez, Daniels, Wynn, Price, Ragnow, and yes I know some will not make it to the second round, but I am guessing one will, especially Price. Then consider the Tackles. Mcglinchey, Williams, Miller, Brown, Williams, Rankin, O'Neill, Kappa, you are going to have some nice choices to fill out the OL. For this reason, I really love getting the extra second rounders, plus delaying one year on FA, since it is meant to fill spots, and add quality makes sense to me. Love the plan coming together.

  2. Look at what these teams are paying for certain players who have not produced. I just heard Montcrief may get offered 10M/yr. Regardless, next year we would all be yelling why did we sign this player for that amount of guaranteed money. The jags now have about two years before they blow it up due to three years of extravagant FA signings.

FA is for teams who are ready to win. We are building. The Vikings look great right now, but what if Cousins does not play well, or he gets hurt. 3 year fully guaranteed contract. These are very large amounts for players who are far from elite. Norwell is good, but my god he only has one pro bowl year.

  3. 15M/ a year on a player who cannot stay healthy. A lot of cash being thrown around on players who have not proved themselves. No way I would have spent that kind of cash on Watkins. Montcrief at this pace is going to get 10M/year. Hey I would be happy to get the comp. pick. Teams are just awash in money this year, and happy to spend it. Our cap space next year is going to be incredible.

I can't wait to see what Solder is paid. I still would like to pursue Fleming at RT.

  4. I would have liked Norwell, but that is a lot of cash, especially guaranteed money for a guard who can go down any second. Plus, Norwell only had one really outstanding season behind him, so probably for the best.

The one thing I looked at on OTC is the Jaguars depending on how the structure this only have 27M next year in cap space before this signing, and next year is when draft picks they picked start coming up to get paid. Fowler is the first, and the year after, Jack, Ramsey. With all the money they have spent on FA's, and none of them have been small contracts, Jackson, Campbell, Bouye, etc. they are going to be losing players they drafted, and cap hell is going to come up and bite them. They have spent so much high priced FA money in the last 3 years, just blows me away. If Bortles does not improve, none of it makes a difference.

  5. I just posted a similar thread, so the OP may want to combine the both of these, but I don't think it removes Denver at all from trading up. You cannot count on Keenum not reverting to prior form. This was one year. Denver will not have a chance like this, and they need to draft a QB to groom and sit for a year. Yes they could wait to the second round and maybe hope Rosen falls, but I still see them drafting a QB.

  6. You can take the Broncos off the Cousins list, Keenum is reportedly going to sign with the Broncos. I see this as a good sign since there is no way they count on Keenum long term, and a reversion to form is quite possible. I would think this is the perfect scenario where Keenum is the bridge QB and whichever QB they draft, he can sit for a year or maybe even two. So the other team in the top 10 I would like to keep in play for trading up is the Jets, and I don't see them getting Cousins since you have the Vikings and now Arizona is ready to make a 29/M per year offer for 5 years with 90M guaranteed. Yes the Jets can match it, but Minnesota and Arizona are much better destinations if you want to win now. I still think Minn. wins out, but regardless, I think Denver and the Jets will be in play to trade up. I know other teams will want to move up also, i.e. Buffalo, Miami, but my first choice is the 5th or 6th, or maybe the 5th and then the 6th, grab the extra picks, and hope Chubb is still there, but if not Quentin Nelson plus those extra picks will be just fine.

So what do you think, is this playing out exactly how we would want?

With Norwell reportedly having us in his final 3, I would think Nelson and Norwell as our guards would really make our line quite attractive going into the season. All we would need is a RT. Man just think of Norwell and Nelson at the guard spots. Our run game would be nasty!

  7. 22 million dollar dead cap hit and the Dolphins are probably happy to have this large "mistake" signing gone. It seems lately it is much more about the locker room, and teams are more likely to accept the cap hits and release players if no one will trade for him. His cap hits the next 3 years would have been all above 25M. Terrible contract made even worse when they restructured it. Good deal for him though!

I don't know how much he will make this year whatever team signs him. I would pass, he will want more than worth, and he is not the best locker room presence, at least according to grapevine. More of a player who is for teams who want to win right now, plus he is 32 I believe, or 31. Even after this cut as a June 1st, and losing Landry, they will only be 7 million above the cap. Terrible management down in Miami and this smells like a total rebuild, which means:

Another suitor has just entered the ring to possibly want to move up, I don't think they want to pay Tannehill what he is owed, although it is reasonable for a QB, I think they want to move on, and drafting a QB gives them extra time with the fans. The only problem, total rebuild means draft choices, so will they be willing to give some up? Time will tell but all the extra suitors only makes are pick more valuable!

He's not making any moves. I guess it feels better to hold the money and grab low-budget players that won't make a difference. Everyone had a point with Landry and the money but now he's just being cheap and tight.

Why, because FA has not even officially started yet? Plus can you really name me any FA's this year besides Norwell who are going to be worth the gamble as far as money. There are no sure things, and this year mediocre is going to cost a lot.

As far as James, I believe he has had injury problems, and has missed quite a few games. Availability is the most critical factor. In four years or sixty four games, he has played 47 games, and he started immediately. That is one season lost to injuries. Last year he only played 8 games.

One more thing, yes I would like Ballard to be more active, I wanted Zeitler last year, but in the end, his FA strategy of the players he got and the price he paid worked quite well. FA is never the answer, it is only for filling in holes when you are a contender. We are not there yet. Give him another year, and hopefully a trade down and stockpile a few draft choices, and use the money when we are closer. There is no one except Norwell, maybe Robinson who I would want to pay big money to.

  9. I would love the trade with Denver, but unless Buffalo gave me another second along with the 1st next year, I would not do it. You figure Buffalo is going to be around the same area next year, which means it would only be about 200 pts. above our draft position. The important fact is next year's picks are worth less, so I would need something else, because that is a big jump. I think I would be happier just taking Denver's 2 second rounders and get the quality player we want. Nelson on Chubb I think are more a guarantee. Once you go back to players in the 20's, you start to take more of a gamble. Additionally, if I were picking in that area, it would be Hernandez, and our MLB for the future, Evans, Smith, or Vander Esch. Buffalo is gearing up for a move though, and one more second round pick is not going to be the difference stopping them if Ballard were to hold firm. Just look at what teams have given up in prior years to go from the teens to the top #5.

I'm actually hoping the Colts trade with the Dolphins.

Dolphins get #3 overall and we get Landry and pick 11

No, I want the picks. Landry will not be worth the price he costs for a guy who averages 8.8 ypc. I know it does not tell the whole story but 11 to 3 is the equivalent of two high second round picks, and that is if we don't demand more than the chart says, which is usually the case if you are trading up that high. I would want their number 2 and number 1 next year to move up at least!

I think itll got Barkley for the Browns, then Chubb for the Giants.

I loved when I saw Vikings are not going to tag Keenum, because if Cousins wants to go to the best place to win, Vikings will be it. They are stacked on defense. There offense is very good, and remember the get Dalvin Cook back, and they have plenty of cap space. It would be the best spot for him for a championship, but you never know what will happen. The yearly amount will not be nearly as important as the guaranteed amount. Jimmy G. 27.5M/yr. only is 37.5% guaranteed. Cousins will be offered boatloads of money, but the guarantee will be important. The Vikings have 50M in cap space, so they should be the front runners in all areas, which I agree puts the Colts in the cats bird seat. Regardless of the QB's, I think Chubb and Barkley are going to be players who teams would be willing to trade up for, so they will have suitors regardless.

As far as Chubb to the Giants, I just don't see it. They need to go QB. They may trade back, but they will still go QB. Manning has a couple more years at best, plus you always have to ask how often will you have a chance like this, and the Giants just don't draft this high often. They need to find a successor.

One more point. I was looking at WalterFootball Mock's draft, and if we can trade down a few spots and gain a second and a third, the talent in the second is amazing. I like their drafts since they don't just follow what the pack says, and their logic is solid since you know many players always slip. I would love to be able to pick up someone like VanderEsch with a second second rounder, and either Hernandez or Wynn with that first second. In the third, maybe Josey Jewell although they have him going in the fourth. I would love him in the fourth. Get those two and our LB core would look alot better and so much more athletic. Still the Vikings signing Cousins is the best case scenario. I look in the second round and all I want is a couple extra picks. We could really improve quickly with a small move down in the first.

  12. A couple years ago I started watching NBC's Football Talk show, the one where Florio provides commentary from around the league. After about 2 months, I got to the point I could not watch it any more. He took every chance he could to criticize Irsay. He just does not like him, and he does not like the fact McDaniels is going to be our HC, period. I don't know why he is so zealous in his outright dislike for Irsay (my guess is the whole NE-Indy relationship over the last decade), but it never fails that if he can say anything negative. Grow up and be a journalist for once. You may not like him, but almost everyone who has worked with Jimmy thinks he is an owner who wants to win and will spend the money to do what it takes. Plus, this talk of meddling is nonsense. All owners meddle some, but for a decade, irsay was almost hands off on Polian. He let our new GM handle the coaching search, and look what happened. He got who was arguably the best candidate possible, and Ballard did it by smoothing over relations which had been horrible for a decade, which is no small feat. I know Jim has his problems, which although no one wants to admit it, is due to his health. Pain is a horrible condition to deal with. The fact is he is a very good owner who has hired a fantastic GM, and hopefully a HC who I believe is going to be a very good HC who will have learned from past mistakes.

    Florio is a tool!

It's not a point of the 2 million a year difference. 71 million guaranteed is the point. That's a huge amount for a soon to be 34 year old QB.

Cousins more than likely would have taken that deal if offered.

Agree fully, and once again Cleveland is in the best position to offer most guaranteed and most per year money. There cap number is well over 100M, and Denver would have a tough time matching Cleveland. If that happens, Cleveland takes Barkley first overall, and it does not change Denver and or the Jets wanting to move up since they would have there choice of two QB's after NY most likely and there are other teams in the low teens who they would be worried may try to engineer a trade. We are still in a good position. I hope Cleveland goes after Cousins hard, since it helps us draft wise I believe.

  14. Now that Smith has been traded, and Cousins will be on his way to another team, it could shake up the teams at the top who want a QB. I still don't think it affects it a lot since I believe Cleveland was always going to sign one of the top QB's and then draft a QB in training. They need to get a good veteran QB and bring another young QB along without any pressure to take over in 3-4 years.

One Draft strategy which has been used which we could possibly consider which has not been talked about:

There are a lot of teams in the low teens, and early twenties who need a QB. Miami, Washington Arizona, Buffalo, and some who may decide to move on like the Bengals. On the face of it, I would not want to trade back too far, but maybe the Tennessee Titans in 2016 could serve as a blueprint for a trade. Although not apples to apples, since they had the number one, they traded the number one for the number #15, and if you go back and look got a kings ransom. We would not get as much, but trading from #11-14 to number #3 would net us quite a haul. Then we could use some of that haul to trade back in the the top 10 depending on how the draft falls and get a player we covet. This is what Tennessee did when they went back into the top 10 and took Conklin, a player they really liked, and was well worth all the extra picks they ended up with. In this case, a move back to the teens, and then using a little of that ammunition to move back up may be a thought due to how many teams after pick 10 need QB's. Just a thought, but since it happened just two years ago, history could repeat itself. I know Ballard will do the best move for the team. There is not one player in the top 10, if the QB's go as most think who would not help our lineup, so maybe it is not so farfetched a thought of using this tactic.

  15. Do not want Arden Key. Is a first round talent, but has bust written all over him. Many looking at him like Mingo. Mingo only decided this year it seems he wanted to really play. Key just does not have that "want to" and motor you need. If he did, he would be top 5. Too big of a chance, even in the early second. We need high quality but no character concerns. I also would prefer us not to take Malik Jefferson. Great athlete again, but his motor seems to go hot and cold, although I would prefer him over Key if it was in the 2nd. My preference would be Chubb, Fitzpatrick or Barkley in the first, and Edmunds if we trade back, and then taking one of the lineman who is going to drop to the 2nd. There are several good OL, and some will drop to the early second. I hope it is Hernadez or Wynn, but he did not have Kolton Miller from UCLA in his draft, or the tackle from Oregon who is highly thought of. Whoever drops out of the group I believe we grab in the 2nd. If we trade back and were to get two extra 2's, how great to pick up two of those OL. Hopefully we would be set, because everything I have heard about Miller, Wynn, Hernandez is they are like Kelly, when we drafted him. Ready to plug and play right away.

  16. I wish I could tell you how all this was going to play out, but don't assume Cousins to Denver just because Elway wants him. If Cousins wants the most money, he will go to Cleveland. Cleveland was always going to look for a veteran QB and then draft a QB to train under him imho. They should have done it a long time ago like this. I think drafting Mason Rudolph would make the most sense since he will probably one of the few to go in the second round, and have him learn for a couple of years. Lamar Jackson would be a good choice. With one of those two doing what Rodgers did under Favre, that would be very smart.

Also of note is I sincerely felt Jacksonville was going to get rid of Bortles and use that 19M on one of the QB's coming available. Now that he just had surgery on his wrist, he is likely not to be medically cleared by the start of the NFL new season, thus the Jaguars are on the hook for his salary, so they will have to keep him as their starting QB. There cap is tight, and with all the FA's they have signed in the past 3 years and young talent they have who they are going to need to extend starting next year, their cap is going to be tight for awhile. The Bortles situation is something I am really surprised at. Think of Smith or Cousins with that team.

  17. I honestly don't know how much this hurts our trade out scenario since there are so many teams who need QB's. Also, do not discount Cousins going to Cleveland. He said he would, which means nothing, but they can offer him by far the largest contract. If Wash. extended Smith at 26M/yr. imagine what Cousins is going to want. Denver may not want to pay their price, and I think Cleveland is going to want a veteran in there regardless to let a young QB learn under him. I always thought it would happen, but I thought it would be Smith to Cleveland.

One more thing, since many people though Jacksonville would also be looking for a more dependable QB, they probably will have to stick with Bortles now. He had surgery on his wrist, and his money was guaranteed if injured, and most likely won't be cleared by medical staff when the league year starts, so they will have to stay with Bortles, and not trade.

  18. This is not an insult to anyone, because I would love Tremaine Edwards, plus several other players mentioned in the rounds picked, and I assume many are being done in a simulator. Unfortunately, Edwards being the best example, he will not be there in the 2nd barring an injury or something wrong with his medical report.

He is 19 years old, and has one of the highest projected ceilings. Best ILB in the draft, and should test extremely well at the combine. I expect to see his name in the top 10, but first round I think is a given if nothing I mentioned before happens. He is a stud, and the more you read about him, you see why. Jeremiah's breakdown of him was very good.

Now I realize last year many really good prospects fell quite a bit, but it was because there were so few offensive prospects at the top, that they were snatched up and let some really incredible defensive talent fall, and we were the lucky recipient of that. This year, I am hoping the QB's, Chubb, Barkley allow us to trade down 2 to 3 spots and pick up at least an extra 2nd or 3rd. Then I would look to move back into the first late and pick one of the talented players who will inevitably fall. Unfortunately it won't be Edwards. If we moved back into the 7-10 spot, Edwards could be the player we select, although I would probably go with Quentin Nelson if he is still there. Still a lot of time to go.

Luck for Cordy Glenn, the 22nd overall pick, and a 2018 2nd rounder?  I don't think you would be able to make that trade on Madden, let alone real life

I should have never clicked on it, since I knew it was click bait, but the above quote shows how delusional the writer is. The article suggests it would never happen unless Luck is healthy. Well if he is healthy, there is no way in the world Indy would ever let go of him, unless you offered many number #1's and then I don't even think so. What makes this articles so delusional is them assuming we would move on from Luck if he is completely healthy. I lost a couple of minutes of my life I want back. I agree, they must be smoking a little of the wacky tobaccy in Buffalo.

  20. One name which intrigues me who Kiper and Jeremiah are really high on is Tremaine Edmunds. If we were to trade back several picks and Nelson was not there, Edmunds would seem to be a really good fit. Seems like he has a really high ceiling. Of course, I only would move back if we get a really good deal, and still can get a really good player. I think as long as we stay in the top 10, we can come away with both.

  21. This is the problem at times with a board, meanings just don't really come across, although I should not have said I would love a TE in the second round. My point is TE is a very important cog in McDaniel's offense, just look at the last few years and what he has run. Doyle is good, but we need an upgrade, but I agree we have other more pressing needs in the 2nd, unless we were to trade back, get an extra second and one of the top TE's falls. Ballard is a BPA guy, but trust me I do understand the pressing needs aspect.

The other point I was trying to make was how special Dallas Clark was, and comparisons Goedert has been drawing reminded me of those days of Manning throwing to Dallas down the seam. I think we can all agree the name "Dallas" brings up some pretty good memories! The seam due to CB's not allowed to go high anymore is so vulnerable, I want a TE who can make those huge chunk plays again. It will be a big part of McDaniel's offense. Gronkowski is a stud, but McDaniel's offense highlights that position. That was my main point about TE's.
