I saw Archie saying Peyton has no long term plan's, he's taking it a year at a time (as if he could do any different), but the implication was that he's older, and he may retire early, leaving the Broncos with a boodle of owed money, and with out this move, no QB for the future! I doubt this kid will make it, but it's smart on the part of the Denver FO.
There's lots of protections for the Broncos in Peyton's contract.

Somebody has to explain what the Colts did. Destitute on defense. Defensive coach. Switching to 3-4. No defensive picks. Bueller? Bueller?
-
Broncos fans not thrilled because they have other needs, but not surprised either. The Broncos brought him in for a workout and were high on him.
He's rough - can really benefit from learning under Peyton for 3 years or more.
He's 6'7"

I think Colts fans are just in withdrawl from the lack of a Manning/Brady rivalry, so you're looking for reasons to create one
But, alas - while these 2 will forever be linked, they'll only play each other every 4 years.
-
They have pick #36 now and Glenn and Hill are still both there. Everyone they wanted at 25 was still available so they traded down. Just surprised they did it again at #31

yea only difference is that Redskin fans are so sure they are going to the Super Bowl this year with RG3. :/
It was very obnoxious hearing Redskins fans at Radio City Music Hall chanting, "SUPER BOWL! SUPER BOWL! SUPER BOWL!"
im like, lets not get too far. Even us Colts fans have accepted that we will not go to the playoffs.
Also, don't forget that the Redskins were not naturally the #2 pick. They traded up to get there and are in better shape with personnel than the Colts. They beat the Giants 2xs and lost some that they shouldn't have. Superbowl is a stretch, but playoffs aren't necessarily a stretch for the Skins.

That has more to do with the NFC east fans fighting it out at the draft since it's dominated by Giants fans. When Philly was picking the Giants fans were signing the "We got a ring" song. They were all chanting at each other.

I agree with Vance. We've been stuck listening to Luck hype for 2 years - well before the Colts could have even imagined to have been in line for him. What more is there for them to say?
RG3 seems talented and smart, with a dynamic personality. No need to put him down to boost up Luck, but I forsee years of Luck vs. RG3 threads on here.

What would have happened if they called out a surprise?
-
They tape it in the afternoon, but it's on at 11:35 on CBS
-
I think Manning and Luck have probably communicated privately. Knowing Peyton - it was probably or will be a hand written letter.
-
Bad thread title. Thought it was a news item
-
Just an FYI, Andrew Luck is scheduled to be on Letterman tonight.
-
Since the pick is already known and the Colts aren't a division rival with either the Jets or Giants, I actually don't think there will be much response good or bad.Jets fans actually boo their own teams picks more often than not.

Rob Lowe is on Letterman tonight. Just saw a clip. He says his source on the Peyton is retiring tweet was one of Peyton's doctors who called him up and said he thought Peyton was done. He didn't specify if it was a private doctor or a team doctor.
Pretty lousy doctor if that's true.

Whos on your list?
1.Aaron Rodgers
2.Drew Brees
3.Tom Brady
4.Rob Gronkowski
5.Eli Manning
6.Calvin Johnson
7.Jared Allen
8.De'marcus Ware
9.Maurice Jones Drew
10.Matthew Stafford
(My List and opinion)
Did you leave Peyton out because you don't think he'll be a top 10 player again or because you are only going based on player performances of 2011
-
Yes, it is Jay305. Who would be "Deep Throat" in this New Orleans scandal & debacle? Former TE Jeremy Shockey?
I know you're joking, but it has to be someone who worked for the team in 2002-2004.

Nice little article. Nice to see that he's found a house and Ashley and the twins will be moving to Denver soon.

II'm willing to wait to hear more. So far, it's just the allegations of one former employee who might just be looking to pile on when the timing is good. Saints are threatening to sue ESPN.

The Colts don't have the money to carry that many players anyway. Unless they can sign them for 10 dollars a day.
only your top 51 paid players count against the cap
-
The allegations are for years 2002-2004, so it pre-dates Payton or Brees. If true, this just might mean a new GM for the Saints. Right now the league says they are unaware of the charges before today.
-
They might not have any draft picks for a while
-
I saw the Texans want to do it. Don't know why they wouldn't get picked if they want it - no one else seems to be lining up.
-
also they in need 2ndary Brady expossed them in playoffs , lost some, Porter they got but may get suspended with Saint problems, tried for samuel but no dice
Doubtful that Porter gets suspended. He has not been named as one of the likely players. They aren't going to suspend 27 players, it will be 3 or 4 maybe.
Eli preparing for SNL
in NFL General
Posted
article about what Peyton thinks about Eli hosting SNL. Sounds like they filmed a commercial together today - with Peyton wearing a Broncos uniform. So, you'll get to see that official site prior to football starting. Though my guess it's a spot for NBC advertising the Wed night and Sunday night games for week 1.
