It really didn't shock me, I pick the Pats to win you know that. Blowing a 28-3 lead though is pretty bad. Matty Ice LOL

I wish I blogged for the Saints, cause I would've dug up every game they've ever blown in the past 5 years and went to town with the jokes. lmao It's seriously more than just a handful, this goes back a few years. They don't call him Matty Ice for nothing, he MELTS in the 4th quarter.

We personally did not think they would top that 17 point meltdown in the NFCCG a few years ago vs the 49ers. That was a classic, but the SB completely blew that out the water.

IMO Wilson is better than mediocre playing for Seattle in their system.

There is a locker room war going on Seattle over Wilson and the Legion of Boom.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000812780/article/warren-moon-seahawks-havent-gotten-over-sb-loss

Had they signed Kaepernick or just any quarterback that could create any competition for him, it would make leverage for Sherman and the defensive players who still blame Wilson for the SB interceptions. The SB decision appears to have destroyed them mentally.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Wilson and I feel he only ever gets defended so often cause he has a ring. Seattle's offense was down right poor in many games last year. He's supposed to be "elite" and at times, can't even put 14 points on the board with an offense that has weapons like Baldwin and Jimmy Graham.

    Marino smokes both I agree

Put Marino on that 2000 Ravens team in place of Dilfer, and they wouldn't have went an entire month without a scoring a touchdown and still would've won the SB, most definitely with far better stats.

I like the 1991 Redskins a lot and they tend to be an easy example of this argument...I would argue they're probably the most well rounded great SB team in history, and I seriously think ANY quarterback wins the SB with that team. They had a historic offensive line that barely gave up any sacks all year, a receiving core with one of the greatest wide receivers ever (Jerry Rice is the only guy that should be put ahead of Art Monk), and a strong running game...and I think Rypien got sacked less than 15 times that year. I used to have 6 of their games on tape, and the only one he has any real pressure on is vs the Eagles who had Reggie White and Seth Joyner. Every other game, he has all day to throw behind that terrific o-line.

Any QB is going to win on that team. And that's not even counting how awesome their defense was. That team down right humiliated and broke offenses with crazy defensive play. Probably the most dominant team ever in the SB era. Jim Kelly threw 5 interceptions on that defense in the SB.

QB's should not be judged at the end of the day just by rings. Individual accomplishments are statistics and passing stats. A ring is a team accomplishment. If Dan Marino or other great QB's don't get rings, it just says something about the team around them.

You can make a firm argument for Peyton being the best ever. Problem is not everyone will buy it since RINGZ RINGZ RINGZ so in that regard show them tapes of Dan Marino playing. :)

There are many mediocre to average QB's who have rings - Joe Flacco, Mark Rypien, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson....

Rings should never be the definitive argument for a quarterback. Championships are won by teams, not individual players. If Joe Flacco or Trent Dilfer have one but Dan Marino don't, it just goes to show who was playing on a better team.

All the Falcons had to do was run the ball and if they don't get the 1st down, kick a FG and the game is pretty much over. That is just keeping it simple. They tried to get cute and keep Passing and cost them.

Atlanta blew 5 leads in the 4th quarter last year. Of their 11-5 record, 4 of those losses were from blown leads in the 4th quarter. They almost blew a 6th one in week 17 when they let the Saints overcome a 24 point deficit and make it a one possession game coming down to a failed onside kick. No lead was ever safe with them.

Check out their game vs San Diego. They had a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter and let it completely fade away, allowing SD to come back and tie the game and win in OT. The Super Bowl went pretty much like that game.

It falls on coaching. Shanahan was their perfect scapegoat fall guy, but this is also on Quinn. They learned nothing from those 4 losses in the regular season, just like the 2001 Rams who blamed everything with their SB loss on anything but themselves.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying Atlanta blew this like it's some shock...Remember the 2012 NFCCG? Again, they blew a 17 point lead (10 point lead in the 4th quarter). This team under Matt Ryan, has never been an effective team to close important games. The Falcons have a history of being choke artists in the clutch.

Week 1 with THIS team always makes me nervous regardless. Luck or no Luck.

But with that being said........the Rams had maybe the worst offense in the league last year so if our defense can't show up for this game then uh oh.

Many point to the Rams defense, it wasn't that great last year. I think Wade can be a miracle worker but does he have enough to work with on this current Rams team?

I don't follow the Rams closely enough btw outside of knowing how puke they have been and yes despite puke qualities it's week 1 in their house so it's nerve wracking.

My hunch has been the Colts win a close ugly week 1 game. But if Luck is not there or he looks rusty as hell week 1 then I don't know........

They finished in the top 10.

10th against the pass, 16th against the rush.

Their main problem on defense was turnovers and sacks, ranking 24th in sacks and at 28th in turnovers.

A decent defensive unit hidden in terms of value thanks to a horrible offense that couldn't do anything. The Rams defense was effective enough to keep them in close games in 5 of their 12 losses.

Somewhere, Wade Philips, Gregg Williams, and Arians' DC are licking their chops if Luck does not play for the first 3 games.

Did you guys realize that even though it may be the Rams and Browns, we will be playing 3 aggressive DCs in the first 3 games?

Even if he don't miss 3 games, these DC's are famous for heavy blitzes and they could easily injure him.

Jon Gruden is the most overrated coach of the last decade.

You all do realize that he basically won his Super Bowl with a loaded defense that Tony Dungy built? had Dungy not been fired, he would've been there in 2002 for that Super Bowl (and they probably get a chance at more SB's, cause Dungy knew what he was doing as a coach). That was his Tampa Bay team that he spent years building there.

I lived in Florida in the early 2000's and used to watch those Bucs teams every Sunday. I watched every game of the 2002 season and have a couple of those games on tape that I occasionally go back and watch cause that defense was just so amazing to witness. That team was NOT an offensive powerhouse. Gruden is supposed to be some genius, yet anyone who watched the Bucs in their SB year will flat out tell you that their offense did not improve under Gruden. The team was ranked #3 in turnovers and during the playoff run, just go back and count how many touchdowns the defense scored cause it was a lot. They played Philly in the NFCCG and that game was over fast after a few McNabb interceptions got returned for TD's. In the SB, Tampa Bay's offense really didn't do much (and turned the ball over), while their defense grabbed 5 interceptions and was running them back and scoring. That SB was not won off an amazing offensive performance, that was all defense ruthlessly killing the Raiders.

Gruden won a Super Bowl with a loaded defense that he did not build. He didn't even build their offense either - Keyshawn Johnson? That was a Dungy movie...Mike Alstott? Dungy drafted him...Warrick Dunn? Another Dungy move, and Dunn was the guy who Gruden let walk in favor of Michael Pittman who was a major disappointment.

Tampa's offense under Gruden never improved...When he got there, he had Brad Johnson and immediately tried to turn him into an elite QB by running the West Coast Offense. Johnson was Dungy's QB and he was best fit as a game manager that you don't ask to throw 40-50 times a game. Gruden ruined him.

Go through all the quarterbacks Gruden had in Tampa Bay and they all sucked. He never had the patience with rookies. He drafted Chris Simms and immediately threw him out there to run that same West Coast style offense, asking him to throw bombs all game, and that didn't work out. Gradkwoski was another one he ruined. Gruden never had the patience with young rookies, so he often stuck with veterans and backup quarterbacks...and they never improved either. Brian Griese and Jeff Garcia were below average playing in Tampa Bay.

People can rag on other offensive coaches who have terrible defenses but with Gruden, it was the complete opposite. When the Bucs made the playoffs after 2002, it was all because of a great defense. 2007 was the last year of Tampa's awesome defense, and they were ranked in the top 5, and yet he couldn't put an offense together whatsoever and they go one and done in the playoffs. There's no excuse here. Gruden HAD awesome defenses in Tampa Bay. There's no excuse that his offenses were so poor and did not improve whatsoever.

Gruden basically struck gold with Rich Gannon in Oakland and after that, he thought any old backup or veteran could magically turn into that. The Jeff Garcia experiment pretty much got him fired.

All those years in Tampa, he had a revolving door at quarterback cause he had no patience to develop one.

I am amazed at the mythology built around Gruden that he is some super awesome coach. Seriously, go back and look at those Tampa Bay teams! After 2002, they still had that awesome defense that Dungy built. The defense slowly faded away as players got older and retired or left, but Gruden had years and never developed an offense there. The biggest move he did was drafting Cadillac Williams...He never developed a quarterback, he never built this super awesome offense that people think he did. Go pull up those years and look at the stats.

One more note - Tampa Bay never won another playoff game after 2002. Gruden did manage to get back to the playoffs a few times and they were all big blow out losses.

Most overrated coach of the last decade. If he didn't have a job commentating on ESPN and talking about how much he loves certain quarterbacks, no one would sit here and talk about him being this super genius coach. I have never seen such a huge mythology built around a mediocre coach...He won a SB with a loaded stacked defense. To give Gruden credit for winning with Dungy's Tampa Bay team is like calling Gary Kubiak a genius just for riding that awesome Denver team in 2015 that he didn't build whatsoever.

If Jon Gruden was the Colts coach back in 2015, he would've lost his patience with Luck after all those bad games with the turnovers and interceptions and then benched him and would want to trade him. Remember when Matt Hasselbeck won more games than Luck that year? That would've been all it would take for Gruden to fall in love with Hasselbeck and go with him. Gruden had absolutely zero patience with quarterbacks. Go pull up the Tampa Bay teams between 2003 to 2007 and just look at the revolving door of QB's who he didn't really give a chance with. As soon as they struggled, he wanted a new guy...

Favre's starting record probably will never be broken, but I voted for 'other' for one reason -

OJ Simpson's 2,004 rushing yards in 14 games.

Let's just keep this topic on football and not the horrible person he became afterwards...OJ Simpson's 1972 MVP season had two incredible records that haven't been touched and probably never will -

143 average yards per game. I don't think this record will ever be broken since the NFL has become so pass happy. Back in the 90's, Emmitt Smith came close to this record with his 110 average per game, but it's still a big gap from the 143 number. Marshall Faulk and Barry Sanders arguably had a shot at the record at one point during 1997 (Sanders' 2K season) and 2001 (Faulk averaged 99 yards a game at one point) but injuries during the season cut the attempts short. Emmitt Smith is the only one who had a real legitimate shot at the yards per game record.

The other record is the 2,000 rushing yards in only 14 games. Every other 2K rusher in history has never broke that mark before week 15. Simpson got the record back when it was a 14 game season, making it much more significant than every other 2K rusher who achieved the feature in a 16 game season.

Gus Bradley was a dunce. I think the Jags will be pretty good, and I don't predict that every year. I still say the only thing that happened to them was that Gus didn't get them back up after the failed 4th and 1 against GB. Had they made that it could have been alot different.

Amen, tell them. The Jags for once actually do have some promise in their organization.

Coughlin can turn things around and Doug Maroone, contrary to popular belief was not a horrible coach in Buffalo. His Bills teams ranked in the top 5 on defense when he quit. He wasn't fired, he really just quit...That same Bills team was taken over by Rex Ryan and their defense dramatically fell afterwards. It really says a lot about Rex Ryan that he couldn't take advantage of a team with a defense that good.

    Opinions are like... :censored:

I have never seen a longtime great team where the QB is as important as Manning was to the Colts. Peyton Manning, not the Colts were MUST SEE TV

Sure I'm biased, but I really believe it

Jim Kelly, Dan Marino and Drew Brees, I beg to differ. Brees and Marino especially accomplished far more with bad supporting casts. Brady falls in this category too, considering his receivers weren't All Pro guys for most of those championship runs.

Probably Manning's best comparison is Kelly - loaded team with a stacked offense. Many of those Colts teams resemble the 90's Bills note for note... Yes, Manning was great, but it don't take away he had a much better supporting cast than most of the other QB's of his era. Same thing goes for Kelly, he had a very good supporting cast that probably would all be in the Hall of Fame had they won just one Super Bowl.

He was a great quarterback, but I don't think he's the be all/end all of quarterbacks...

  12. 12 minutes ago, shakedownstreet said:

Manning was twice the QB Brady or Brees are. All you need is the eye test

I don't remember Brady or Brees going out with a record NINE one and dones in the first round of the playoffs, many of them with home field advantage.

Brady has accomplished far more than Peyton ever did in the playoffs. That whole argument is pretty much over after the big comeback vs the Falcons this past year.

Brady is the GOAT after this last Super Bowl...

It's because without Andrew the media knows we are screwed. We need him just to get to 9 or 10 wins and have a chance to do anything. No more Hasselbeck miracles are around. In 2015 we were lucky we had Hass (who was a Good Pro) but still only went 8-8

Matt Hasselbeck was your Steve DeBerg that one year. lmao Old man capping off those wins, was entertaining to watch.

Being on the PUP list could help Luck. There's no need to risk him in preseason coming off this surgery.

  14. 22 minutes ago, BloodyChamp said:

If they would have made that 4th and 1 against the Packers in week 1 last year they would have had a much, much, much different season tbh.

Shows how GREAT GB really was last year too. Nearly lost to Jacksonville...then got stomped in the ground by average teams like Tennessee and Washington, and even lost to the Colts and Vikings who are also average teams...yet they'll be SB favorites yet again this year. lmao

  15. 47 minutes ago, RockThatBlue said:

Seems like this gets said about the Jags every year lol. I guess it has to end up being true eventually.

You're correct, it does get said about them every year. They are the one Florida team I believe who get the most optimism and then fall flat on their faces. I'd still love to see them at least make a break eventually and some good luck come their way, since they're a bad team year in and year out.

  16. 17 hours ago, BloodyChamp said:

Another race to 7-9 in the NFC South. Yeah yeah Atlanta well there's still 2nd place, and Atlanta might be traumatized.

Oh boy, they're definitely traumatized...Atlanta has serious dysfunction problems within their organization right now since that SB loss.

In Atlanta we have; Freeman getting on the radio and bashing the team in his "I should've been SB MVP" rant. Dan Quinn with the whole "Embrace the Suck" slogan, Quinn again who bashed the defense in the media and blamed them for the failure, finger pointing over the play calling, the firing of linebacker coach Bryan Cox (which was absolutely shocking, since Atlanta did get 5 sacks and dozens of hits in that game).

Going to be an entertaining year to see how hard they fall.

  17.

Wow, this is a huge surprise! Before being hired by Carolina, Gettleman had over 30 years experience in scouting. He was with Buffalo in 1990 and 1991, Denver in 1997 and the Giants in 2000, 2007 and 2011.

Panthers fans are pretty upset about this firing. The timing is odd too with training camp fast approaching.

  18.

I don't see it happening any time soon. His behavior issues and passing mechanics are just the reason he did not succeed to begin with. Outside of the drinking and all the big problems with his attitude, there were warning signs due to his mechanics in college. He was entertaining to watch in college no doubt, and he did beat Alabama so 1+ to him for that, but he had large question marks on him before he was drafted.

    3 hours ago, Boomstick1 said:

Drew Brees is the same size so I wouldn't count him out

So is Russell Wilson. Not really a good comparison since both Brees and Wilson have far different mechanics from Manziel.
