I actually just feel bad for Todd Bowles... he's been sabotaged by his own front office. The Jets played pretty well in his first season but he's not really the one to blame for everything unraveling the way it has. They're going to be awful this year, and then they're going to clean house. Bowles has to konw that.

Totally agree, he looked promising that first year when he got them to 10-6. They had a number of games where his defense looked spectacular. I believe this forum was also impressed by him a few years ago with the game he coached against the Colts. I don't follow the Jets enough to know anything about their organizational dysfunction.

Cowboys gonna win the Super bowl this year now. They feel slighted and now Dak is "mad"

Dallas is starting 4 rookies on their secondary. They are a long ways away from a Super Bowl. I am probably the biggest Dak Prescott fan on this entire board, absolutely love the kid, but they're going to need a few years to develop that secondary before they have a real shot at a SB.

The Cowboys O-Line is the best in the league, so Elliott's presence shouldn't hurt them too much.

I haven't been following Zeke's case but it seems like his punishment is inconsistent. Ray Rice and AP got suspended for a lot less. Josh Brown only got suspended for 1 game, and there was evidence that he beat his wife. Kaep is suspended indefinitely for some stupid reason. Zeke will probably get his suspension cut down to 3 or 4 games on appeal.

Gave you a like cause I agree with almost everything you said. The Josh Brown case was absolutely unreal...The NFL cares way more about protecting it's brand image as the shield, than it does about domestic violence abuse victims. Greg Hardy nearly murdered his wife, and he was still in the league after that.

My only disagreement is Dallas' o-line. People say this every year...Last year, people didn't want to give credit to Dak cause the o-line (and this weird mythology about Romo being the next Roger Staubach all of a sudden, after people spent years of calling him a choker). It's the same o-line that let Tony Romo get killed with back injuries in his last years. In 2015 without DeMarco Murray, that o-line did not produce a solid run game when they fell apart without Romo. Dallas would've been an 8-8 team last year without Romo, but Dak Prescott proved to be the real deal. I expect them to struggle a bit without Ezekiel, but that O-line can be had at times.

The NFL got it wrong with Ray Rice.  Goodell admitted as such. Now they have a system in place to deal with such issues, even if the judicial system allows them to escape from facing consequencest from a legal standpoint. They will investigate on their own if the legal system doesn't pursue it.  The Ezekiel Elliot investigation proves they will take a ton of time and resources as necessary. Then take appropriate action as well.

And the NFL is still getting it wrong. Ezekiel should've been suspended last year if they were going to do something about it.

Josh Brown got 1 game for beating his wife over 20 times...The NFL is still a long way from repairing it's image when it comes to domestic violence. Adrian Peterson is still in the league after repeatedly having child abuse incidents...Good thing they didn't kneel during the anthem though, otherwise they wouldn't have a job at all!

A great defense, and that is just me being biased. I grew up watching the late 80's to early 90's Saints defenses, who were known for hard hitting plays and brutalizing QB's. The "Dome Patrol" still holds a dear place in my heart.

The NFL today has the rules bent so much that offenses can practically do whatever they want. Mediocre quarterbacks can throw for 400 yards on any given day. Today's rules that favor offenses more than anything have made me truly appreciate older defenses more than I ever did.

Watch Cutler start lighting it up and win the MVP after leaving the Bears. That would be hilarious.

Cutler has never even made a Pro Bowl not once in his entire career and his stats are right on par with Jeff George. People seem to be forgetting how average he was as a QB in Chicago and how much they gave up for him to be average. Aaron Rodgers will get MVP #3 before Cutler even makes All Pro.

This starts his 7th year in Miami.Prior to this, he was with the Panthers for 4. Moore was brought over to Miami in 2011 as Chad Henne's backup.  Henne hurts his shoulder, and Moore starts 12 games for the Dolphins that year.  Rookie Tannehill beats out Moore for the starting job next season, and Matt Moore  has never started another game for the Dolphins since, until late last year he started 3. So Gase has longevity questions in regards to Moore, and would have no real backup for him.

Gase also has history with Cutler, and success. They've known each other since 2006. Jay has also started 15 or 16 games 7 out of the last 10 years, and 10 and 11 to make  9 out of last 10.

finally, Jay is considered by Gase to be a better option to win, and was the champion to get him to Miami. It is clearly Gase's team to make this all happen the way it has.  But Moore has, is, and will be a backup QB.

The HC made this go down, it was all Adam Gase.  Cutler iced the Dolphins out (blocked communications) at one point.  but Gase finally got him and (especially Kristen) on the phone and it wasn't just getting the money up to 10 million with 3 more in incentives, but the respect for relentlessly trying to get him to sign on and command the ship.

No playoffs for them when Cutler goes all Jeff George and throws interceptions every where and then has his bad attitude he was famous for in Chicago.

Moore is two years younger than Cutler and looked better than Tannehill last year. I'm not surprised though...This is the Dolphins who have been wasting years of firing coaches thinking Tannehill is going to magically morph into Dan Marino 2.0.

  8.

Between this, and Freeman talking about how he should've been SB MVP and Matt Ryan comparing them to the Warriors (did I miss where they signed the NFL equivalent of Kevin Durant somewhere?) this team is going to fall so hard on their faces this coming year. The Falcons ain't coming back...

RISE UP and claim that 6-10 record!

  9.

Houston has a history of ruining quarterbacks...Matt Schaub, Hoyer, Brock...I hope they don't ruin this kid. His performance vs Bama was enough to sell me on him. I wanted him to go to a better team though that could develop him better, since I have no faith in O'Brien whatsoever after how he's ruined QB's.

I don't think the coaching staff did him any favours.  Now that he's the full time starter and he's being given practice/training camp reps as such, I think he'll improve.

While this is true, from watching the Hard Knocks, I do not get why the Rams drafted him so high and traded away so much for him. He was so clueless in that training camp, I don't get what told them he was a first round pick besides him being good looking and the hometown L.A. thing.

I don't think he's going to improve. You have to watch some tape of him last year. He was very, very bad...He had arguably his best game vs the Saints and even in that game, he looked bad. Goff's biggest issue is his throwing motion. He does not throw the football like normal QB's. There's not enough zip on his passes.

Even worse, his pocket presence clearly shows a QB that can't handle pressure and is scared to take hits. When he's rushed, he takes his eyes off down field and panics and his body language tenses up. The highlight of Vic Beasley slinging him down with just one hand is as hilarious as it is sad.

He is very bad and I agree if our defense should be able to have a good game it's week 1. Either we win and we SHOULD win. Or we flounder around helplessly at some point in the game and blow it.

I agree though, losing to Goff and making him look GOOD would be the worst thing around. Last thing the Colts need is to make Jared Goff look good. But if Tolzien is starting the Rams would say the same thing about our offense......

Your team BETTER beat the Rams cause oh mah gawd, Jared Goff could be the biggest bust we've seen since Jamarcus Russell.

You have to really watch some tape of him from last year to see how BAD he is...His throwing motion and just his body movement in the act of passing is really bad. I'm left in shock just at the fact the Rams threw so much at him in the first round and whoever thought he was a plausible 1st round pick.

Goff is BAD...I hope to hell the Colts don't lose to him.

  12.

Why didn't they just go with Matt Moore? He got them in the playoffs last year with his strong performances at the end of the season.

Jay Cutler really is the Jeff George of modern day. Here he is still getting jobs after burning out, just like how the Redskins threw a bunch of money at George after the whole June Jones feud.

If Atlanta and Seattle run the ball near the end of their games, Brady would be 3-4 (and 0-4 in his last 4) super bowls and I doubt anyone would be discussing him as the GOAT or playing till he's 50 or whatever.

But they didn't...And the rest is history.

The "what if" scenarios can be played for many Super Bowls, including the ones the Pats lost. What if Assante Samuel actually catches that gifted INT that Eli threw directly to him that he dropped?

I'm sure if it was any other QB not named Brady, this board would be praising them for those comebacks and not making excuses for the Falcons and Seahawks....He's the only one that is overly criticized on here. Brady does amazing things, he's just a "system QB" or some excuse to ignore his greatness.

The Falcons blew 5 games where they had a lead in the 4th quarter, including 3 of them where they were up by 10 or more points...Seattle in 2014 had serious issues that were clearly demonstrated with the NFCCG that Green Bay choked away. It's not like these teams handed the Pats SB's like many on this board seem to suggest. They screwed up and lost. It happens...

Brady turns 40 and somehow we get into Brady vs. Manning yet again? I mean if you want to I am not holding you all back, feel free, It's an "open thread".

I know most expect the Pats to repeat and believe me I want to pick them too. But it's tough to repeat.......especially in the NFL. Pats are the clear faves and I don't know who else to pick in the AFC but to me thats the beauty of the NFL too and the parity. You just don't know who is going to go on some huge tear......

A few teams will shock us this year.

It turned into Brady vs Manning and arguing over Brady being a "system QB"

What's with the term "system QB"??? Practically EVERY Hall of Fame quarterback runs their own "system". For some odd reason, Brady is the only one who gets bashed for this, but pretty much ALL great statistical quarterbacks have their own system.

Manning in Denver brought his own system there and didn't want to run Kubiak's offense (I don't blame him)

Brees was running his own system in New Orleans for 2012 when Sean Payton was wrongfully suspended.

Anyone remember Favre in Minnesota? He brought his own play book and ran his own offense.

Dan Marino had his own "system". He did not get along with coach Jimmy Johnson at all due to them clashing over the differences on offense.

Joe Montana and Steve Young had the 49ers West Coast style system at their hands that greatly helped their abilities and talents at QB.

Every quarterback has their own "system" or whatever one wants to call it.

As for the whole "Matt Cassell won 11 games in 2008" I don't even get how that is still a knock on Brady. Matt Cassell had only one decent season outside NE, and people always leave out that it was essentially the same Patriots team that went 16-0 the year before. He still struggled in big games vs Miami and Pittsburgh where he looked awful.

If anyone is going to bring up "any QB can win in that system" well, you better play fair and bring it up regarding the 49ers. Steve Young won several games in 1987 and 1988 as a backup. In the 90's, Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac became star names due to winning a few games and looking amazing in the 49ers offense when Young was injured. I guess if internet existed back then, people would've been quick to call Young or Montana "system QB's".

I'm still salty from the super bowl.. I'll say this.. the NBA got so much backlash because we knew the two teams in the Finals.. well in the NFL we already knows who's getting the trophy. Nobody can compete with the Patriots. The offense just too quick, and the defense which was good last year as well got better too. Injuries don't really matter either since the pats also apparently teach "next man up" the best.

Yeah he'll probably play 5 more seasons. Lets all just hope it's not all with the Patriots

The NFL has far more parity than the NBA has ever had. You can complain about the same team being in the AFCCG, but statistically, it's very hard to sustain success as long as the Patriots have done.

Most dynasty teams get old and wear out. The 70's Steelers, 80's 49ers and 90's Cowboys all reached a point where age caught up with them and tore them down. To be fair, the Patriots did go 10 years between their 3rd and 4th Super Bowl win.

It's not fair to compare this to the NBA though, cause the NBA definitely has a parity problem and has always been that way. I know everyone on this board hates the Patriots (except me!! I owe you all one for beating the Falcons!) but they are an exception to the rule of sustaining long term success.

Moore has always been solid but hasn't gotten certain breaks. However, remember 2015 when the Cowboys were 2-0, Romo got hurt, 2-6, Romo came back 1 game and freakin balled, 3-6, then got hurt again and they won 1 more game late in the season. The team he came back and beat was the Dolphins lol I bet they remember that.

Moore took the starting job in Carolina back in 2009 and showed a lot of promise in key wins at the end of the year. It's a shame it ended badly the next year, cause he looked like a legitimate starter half way into the season.

  17.

They don't need Kaep or any other backup. Matt Moore was killing it last year in his limited play time. He could probably even be a better QB than Tannehill since Tannehill has been a disappointment for most of his career.

As long as they keep more Moore, they should be fine on offense.

  18. 9 hours ago, aaron11 said:

should be ok as long as luck plays

Have you seen footage of Jared Goff? He is bad...Very bad. Could be the biggest bust since Russell in Oakland.

The Colts should be able to win even without Luck, this QB is that bad.

We all know that Adam Gase contacted Peyton when Tannehill went down last year. Now, I bet he goes after Romo if that is the case.

Matt Moore had two big break out games last year when Tannehill went down. As long as they have Moore, they will be fine on offense. This could be his big moment to take the starting job for good.
