  1. Mark Kermode remembers Bill Paxton

    1. southwest1

      southwest1

My 2 favorite films that Bill stared in were "A Simple Plan" & "Trespass." In both films I mentioned Bill plays an ordinary guy [A feed mill supervisor & a firefighter] who is driven by volatile situations to cross lines he wouldn't otherwise cross.

I know most people will remember him from the blockbuster hit "Titanic." I detested that overhyped cinematic piece of romantic crap. Plus, it went on too darn long in duration. Does it really take over 2 hours to discuss a poor kid & a girl about to marry a rich dude she doesn't love? The boat collides with an iceberg, cracks in half, & passengers drown or die a slow death from hypothermia. There you have it. All the essential plot points in less than 2 minutes folks.

Man, I was stunned & bewildered over how many movie patrons loved the "Titanic" from the yr 1912. Whatever. The whole picture is sentimental bull...you know what in my estimation.

Thanks for the clip on Mr. Paxton Bogie. You're cool. I've got no qualms with you at all my friend. I just roll my eyes at theatre buffs who were moved by James Cameron "Titanic" feature presentation I guess. End Rant.

Bill did seem like a down to earth guy though & I'm sorry he died so suddenly so unexpectedly in the end.

Cavs have firepower coming back for playoff time as mentioned in this video.

Sadly, the King probably won't win MVP cause Russell Westbrook is still averaging a triple double in every game.

    3. Jules

      Jules

Would rather give MVP to little Isaiah Thomas. Celtics are second in the east too while the Thunder are 7th in the West.

And yeah the Cavs will be better later. Keep an eye on the Raptors though too since the Celtics struggle with them as well. Had Celtics/Raptors on last night and the C's were up by 17 at one point but still ended up losing the game.

    4. Jules

      Jules

There was a Celtics game last week I didn't see where they played the Bulls and everyone went nuts on how jobbed the Celtics got at the end of the game. Bulls are 7th in the east I just seen, so Boston or Cleveland may get them in the first round of the playoffs.

Cleveland would be fine, but this is why I worry about Boston.

That would be like someone being a Jordan and Peyton fan and saying Jordan is the GOAT because he has the most Rings in the modern era being the best player on his team but so is Peyton eventhough he only has 2 Rings but he has 5 League MVP's

I don't even know how you can still bring Peyton's name into this even after this last SB. I've been hearing this crap for so many years about him some how being the best quarterback ever, despite his hilariously bad playoff history.

What happened with all 5 of those league MVP's? He didn't win a Super Bowl with any of them. In fact, his last two, he reached the SB and lost...once to throwing the classic interception to Tracy Porter and the other, he had the so called "best offense in NFL history" and put up just...8 points. That's Peyton Manning for you.

Peyton throws a pick six in the big one, he gets blown out...Brady came back and won the game after a pick six and trailing by 25 points in the second half. This last SB practically shatters all these myths, including the ones about Joe Montana (he would've eventually lost a SB if you look at certain years he lost the NFCCG).

League MVP is nothing. The last one to actually win a Super Bowl was Kurt Warner in 1999. I wouldn't brag about those MVP's, since we all know what happened to Peyton after getting them.

Looking at these essays you wrote me about how LeBron really ain't crap compared to all these other guys who got rings (you never do mention Bill Russell, which he is the counter of the ring argument when it comes to the NBA), I have to wonder about LeBron haters like you - why can't you just sit back and enjoy it? Same thing with this last SB....Instead of enjoying it, bring up Peyton Manning as if there is any way you can argue him side by side with Brady anymore.

It don't matter what LeBron does, there's always going to be the haters that scream "but MJ MJ MJ, Kobe Kobe Kobe, Magic Magic Magic!" He could score 100 points in a game, and you would still find something to nitpick.

Well I am sorry you took it the way you did, I figured with our history in chat you would respond with something witty and have fun with it and not get upset. I defend you all the time on here when people call you a Troll because I have got to know you know as a person. LeBron is clearly a Top 10 player of all-time. I was just playing devil's advocate on how people rank players when comparing players with more Rings to other things like MVP's and Stats something I thought you would appreciate and dissect. Instead you just Post in anger. I wont Post on your thread anymore, how's that sound? I don't need too as I have 20 something followers anyway so no big deal to me.

  4. We just witnessed two of the greatest championships in both the NBA and NFL. The two best players of both sports mounting amazing comebacks. So happy I lived to witness...Enjoy these memories while you have them, cause it won't last forever. Hands down, the best Super Bowl I ever seen. Hats off to Brady, he is officially the best quarterback I have ever seen and I'll defend him to the end. Hats off to LeBron, no one deserved it more than Cleveland last year.

Also one more thing I heard some saying HOW COULD THEY BEAT ATLANTA, the same ATLANTA WHO BLEW OUT THE PACKERS.

The Patriots will be the team to beat until Brady and Belichick retire, they really always have been since 2001 after they won their first SB. That team could have 10 SB Titles had it not been for Eli's Giants stopping them twice and 3 of Peyton's teams stopping them. I wonder if Falcons fans are ready to jump off a cliff yet? Up 25 points and cant close, SB Rings don't grow on trees. I am not sure what is worse, the way Seattle lost 2 years ago or the way the Falcons lost.

I liked that this video focused in on the Bills/Giants Super Bowl, and most Cleveland fans tend to be extremely bitter over BB's success with New England. Hard to blame them though, they had to deal with the worst owner in the league at the same time too.

Funny story too about Bernie Kosar. Kosar was never the same again after Modell fired Schottenheimer after '88 and he suffered that shoulder injury. He set the record for most passes without an interception in the 1990 season, but Kosar did not look like the same QB without his coach and that one injury did more to his arm than anything after.

I feel bad for the Browns. They had such a solid team in 1986 and Elway just snatched the AFC Title from them. That was Kosar's year. The Bills should've won the SB in the 90 Season as well. Freakin Norwood LOL.

  8. Anyone own a Fiio X1? I'm currently in the market this year for finding an iPod Classic replacement. Mine became corrupted and was unable to fix it just a few years ago. I am not about to blow a bunch of money buying a refurbished one mostly because I cannot afford 400-800 dollars for a new iPod. I am looking for something that gets the same job done of the iPod classic. I don't need a camera, no video players, no pictures, none of this, just a basic stripped down model for storing audio. I've been recommended this thing by a handful of audiophiles, and I am very tempted to buy it as it's only 80 dollars and I figure it's worth a try.

  9. The NFC South is the first division since the realignment in 2002 to have all four teams reach the Super Bowl.

But I'm sure come 2017 season, we'll be told how this the "worst division" in the league for another year - All four teams have made the SB, with Carolina making it twice, two of them have won Super Bowls (2002 Tampa, 2009 New Orleans).  Since 2002, there has only been one team win it back to back and that was Carolina in 2013-2015. Beyond that, every year has had a different division winner and the divisional match ups can be incredibly unpredictable.

The only other division with the same number of success has been the NFC West who has sent 3 teams to the SB (and the Rams made it in 2001 the last year before the realignment)

But yeah! Worst division in football!

All fair points but I think getting a Ring for a QB is much harder than it is for a Superstar Basketball player who has control on what happens on every possession. Dan Marino is major proof of this. The guy never had a Great Defense his whole career, hence 0 Rings. Warren Moon same thing. A QB can only control what happens on Offense. You named a few QB's that have won without being Great/at least Very Good but it doesn't happen much. What 4 or 5 times in 50 SB's. I also disagree that Denver wins the SB without Peyton last season, they would've never got by the Patriots without him  and with Brock, even Peyton haters admit this. Regarding LeBron winning 3 Rings, I think it's a Great accomplishment but when everyone is comparing you to Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson than the expectation to win 5 or 6 is just there. Most people in the media put LeBron in their Category and even put him above Kobe and Bird so he should win more IMO. He also didn't win a Ring until he joined Wade which is a bad look. LeBron's Championship last season was his best one by far, it was his team and his city. Winning with Wade and Bosh is a given for any Superstar player that is hyped as the next Jordan. Wade is arguably a Top 20-25 player of all-time and Bosh was the equivalent to Pau Gasol. Kobe won 2 with a Bosh type and not even close to a Wade type of player.

Warren Moon had a lot of problems as to why he didn't get to the big one. It all began with the racism from the NFL owners who wouldn't draft him in the 70's. Some could argue that Moon probably owns the record books if he started his career earlier, cause before the current era, Moon's numbers were right up there at #2 next to Marino. Moon went into CFL after the NFL passed on drafting him.

Moon's other problem was Bud Adams...If you want to write a book about horrible NFL owners, I think Bud Adams is the Jack Kennedy of NFL owners and has the most dirt and it's not hard to find reasons to hate him. He of course, blamed Moon for a playoff loss and traded him, but before that, Bud Adams meddled with that team so much, he made them dysfunctional and created lots of issues.

I would agree on Dan Marino. I think Marino is the greatest example of a team failing a quarterback. If Marino just had ONE ring, absolutely no one would make fun of him. He would've went down as the greatest quarterback to ever play the game if he just got one ring.

I highly recommend watching the ESPN short series "Top 5 reasons why you can't blame Dan Marino". That little mini-documentary goes into specifics as to how the Dolphins really failed Marino on all counts. He went 18 whole years without having a running back rush over 1,000 yards. At one point, they literally had a UPS driver off the street play running back.

The Dolphins had a streak too of defensive draft busts. All through the 80's, all their defensive draft picks were major busts. Of that era, they have a lot of first and second round draft pick busts. Miami didn't hit on a defensive draft until the 90's and by then, it was too late...

These guys played in an entirely different era too...Even had they got to the SB, it's no guarantee they win it cause the NFC dominance lasted from 1984 to 1997...and most of those SB's were boring bloody blow outs. Even if Moon or Marino get to SB's, it's a big question of "if" they would've won, cause those NFC teams were juggernauts. Marino had to play the 15-1 49ers who just crushed everyone that year.

Marino could've went to the Super Bowl four other times - 1985, 1990, 1992, and 1994.

My gut is always on 1994. That was the last year of his career where he was truly amazing and put up a memorable season. They lost in the playoffs to the Chargers in the memorable game with the score 21 to 20. They lost by one point, thanks to a missed field goal....Had they won that game, they go to Pittsburgh for the AFCCG and I doubt Marino loses in his home town of Pittsburgh...but then you go to the Super Bowl and play the Monopoly 49ers who abused the Salary Cap to the max in 1994. No one was beating the 49ers that year, when they threw everything in the bank at free agents and literally bought a SB where they had nothing but All Pros on defense.

      Quote

I also disagree that Denver wins the SB without Peyton last season, they would've never got by the Patriots without him  and with Brock, even Peyton haters admit this.

Brock beat New England in the regular season...I don't see Peyton winning that game with how crazy he was throwing interceptions everywhere. For all the hate Brock gets, Denver don't win crap last year if they don't get home field advantage and that was Brock's biggest win. Even with home field, they were still barely squeaking those wins by the skin of their teeth. As much as everyone bashes Brock, they still needed every last one of his wins, especially the New England game that they were down 21-7 and he engineered a comeback in OT.

In the Super Bowl, Peyton did nothing but get them in field goal range. All touchdowns were scored with help of defense and special teams. And Denver got so lucky the turnovers they caused didn't result in points.

I have no doubt in my mind, Brock could've won it last year. Hell, throw in a 40 year old Favre, who still played extremely well at his old age, and you probably do get TD's rained down in the SB.

I hate the Broncos. At least we don't have to worry about seeing them in the SB again for another 10 years. Wade Philips is gone too, so no more awesome defense for them.

      I didn't mention MJ for a reason.

This is what I mean though about the ring argument in basketball, which I've told you before is like a marketing invention. Kareem has 6 rings, 1 more than Magic yet his name never comes up in this conversation. Probably cause Kareem don't have a massive marketing campaign behind him. It's been pounded in our skulls since the 90's "MJ is the greatest". Here we are 20 years later and the media still loves to push this...MJ is like Aaron Rodgers right now, you're just not allowed to criticize him, and I don't see why, cause while MJ was great, there is also other great players out there too.

Before LeBron, it used to be Kobe who they hated on the most and used the annoying MJ comparisons. Kobe "can't win without Shaq" was a favorite for years. LeBron became the new target after he left Cleveland.

A part of me deep down isn't going to care if Golden State wins it this year, cause maybe if Durant gets a ring his first year there, maybe...just maybe it will kill the ring argument for good. No one wanted to give LeBron credit for the Miami rings, and they sure as hell aren't going to want to give credit to Durant when he does it.

I'm sure too that after LeBron is done, whatever new awesome player replaces him, will also get compared to MJ for old time sake. It's a never ending story.

      Quote

Most people in the media put LeBron in their Category and even put him above Kobe and Bird so he should win more IMO.

IMO I would easily put LeBron over Kobe. The reason why is that he's just a far better "all around" player than him.

Comparing the two, I like LeBron more cause he isn't afraid to get others involved on the court. You saw this in Miami when he would routinely pass the ball to Chalmers and Bibby and let them put up 3's. He does this in Cleveland too, as shown in the Finals when he kept getting Kyrie and JR Smith involved in the game...

Kobe on the other hand had a very bad habit of being a ball hog and that is a criticism that used to be common when Shaq was on the team and the entire team used to get frustrated with him going into hero mode often. Phil Jackson had a history of butting heads with Kobe over this stuff.

NBA players should be judged by talent, not rings. Kobe is a pretty good example of being on loaded teams. The Shaq-Kobe team had a really good bench and he also had Shaq in his prime playing lights out. That 3-peat wasn't just cause of Shaq and Kobe, those teams were great all around. The 2008 Lakers also were great all around, and had star talent on their bench. it definitely helped when they had Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom coming off the bench.

Although I should not laugh since back in my partying days I heard and seen some nutty things myself.  The most famous is "Kevin from St. Louis" but we won't delve into that here publicly.

The Heroin Diaries is a tear jerker book. It takes a very strong stomach to read without wanting to cry.

Beyond the drug stories, it's not just that which is sad...There's a lot of great stuff in the book about the racism that Nikki Sixx dealt with, cause he was pretty much raised as a kid by Richard Pryor. it's talked about a lot in the book, his mom dated Pryor and he put up with a lot of racism at a young age, and later on his career, he talks about how disgusted he was at Axl Rose for his racist rants in the past.

The book also does NOT paint Vince Niel in a good light whatsoever....Vince Neil is a piece of crap anyway, and everyone knows that, but Nikki Sixx's book goes into details how he was always this diva-type singer back in the 80's and thought he ran the band. Nikki wrote all the songs for Motley Crue alongside guitarist Mick Marrs.

Most Heavy Metal bands work in a pattern of song writing between the bass player and guitar player, while the singer writes the lyrics. Using Ozzy for example since he was mentioned - Diasley and Rhoads wrote all the songs on his debut album as bass/guitar composers. Iron Maiden is another great example, cause you can really hear the bass as a rhythm in their music, and not a surprise that their bass player Steve Harris was writing all the songs alongside Dave Murray going back to the first record. With Motley Crue, oh yes, Nikki Sixx wrote all their stuff, and deserves credit for that.

"Vince Neil is a piece of crap anyway, and everyone knows that, but Nikki Sixx's book goes into details how he was always this diva-type singer back in the 80's and thought he ran the band. "

I expect lead singers in sold out stadiums to be a colossal pain in the caboose Bogie. Vince Neil, Blackie Lawless, David Lee Roth, & David Coverdale for example all have tremendous alter ego personalities. It's pretty standard among hard rock/heavy metal bands. You have be full of yourself to work a crowd to a frenzy, sell t-shirts, tickets, backstage access, & make a lavish lifestyle of luxury possible.

What I found hilarious is when Nikki Sixx  thought Vince was overrated, fired him, he signs a deal with Warner Brothers records, produces a smash CD called "Exposed" that cracks the top 20 in weeks of it's debut, Sixx replaces Neil with singer John Corabi who is a total dumpster fire vocally; the fans rejected this version of the Crue in droves, & low & behold Vince is back in the lineup & the band starts making serious money again.

Nikki Sixx is just like Eddie Van Halen after he fired Sammy Hagar. A jack caboose who falsely believed his genius would save the band by finding any fool to motivate a crowd. He grossly miscalculated & to this day Nikki says Vince left the band. No, Nikki. Your addictive personality got hooked on heroin, you thought any buffoon with tattoos could keep the cash rolling in, & I laughed my butt off when Vince made a much better record & forced you to swallow your pride & beg him to return to the Crue.

Sixx is a  survivor & a sharp guy, but if you ask him even now about the band without Neil at the helm during that period, he lies through his darn teeth. Be a real man Nikki & own it please.

After what I have seen about MJ lately in some videos and how much favoritism he got, he can go shove it at times IMO. I know that is like criticizing Jesus (I do that too btw) but I just don't care. Yes MJ was an all time great but RELAX already with the hero worship. He was a PRODUCT.

And for those who think I am a meanie burger, I am actually RAISING Peyton Manning on my all time list mentally now and maybe ahead of Brady since I am dead sick and tired of Tom Brady. I swear too Brady is on something........he is 39 years old and looks 26 out there. Peyton at least looked old when he was........old.

What really got me about Brady was his stupid hissy fits during the Ravens game weeks ago. Like he literally EXPLODED in fits of rage when the Ravens were meanies to him and played you know actual defense.

@Jules, by the way I hated the Bulls and Jordan. So me defending him makes me sick haha. You guys think I hate LeBron, LeBron had nothing on how I hated Jordan. I couldn't stand the Bulls as they won every damn year and blocked the Pacers from winning in 1998, a series I felt like the Pacers got ripped off by the REFS in Game 7. Regarding Brady and Peyton, I think both are Top 5 QB's of all-time and really cant see how it can be argued that either aren't. Brady has 4 Rings as a starter, Peyton has 2 with 2 different teams as a starter. Peyton has 5 League MVP's and a SB MVP, Brady has 2 League MVP's and 3 SB MVP's. Peyton also is the all-time leader in TD's thrown and Yards Passing.

    4. 2006Coltsbestever

      2006Coltsbestever

My Top 5 all-time QB's list would look like this:

      1. Joe Montana - 4 SB wins as a starter, 2 League MVP's, 3 SB MVP's

      2. Johnny Unitas - 2 Championships in the 50's, set the standard

      3. Tom Brady - 4 SB wins as a starter, 2 League MVP's, 3 SB MVP's

      4. Peyton Manning - 2 SB wins as a starter, 5 League MVP's, 1 SB MVP

      5. John Elway - 2 SB wins as a starter, 1 League MVP, 1 SB MVP

Honorable mentions: Dan Marino/Brett Favre/Otto Graham

-I have tons of opinions that could support my Top 5 and Mentions. See you both know how much I hate the Pats and Tom Brady but I still have him rated 1 spot higher than Peyton. Main reason is, how Brady has performed in the Playoffs compared to Peyton. Brady was better on the biggest stages, much like Jordan and Magic was compared to LeBron. Having Belichick has helped Brady out though IMO and Brady isn't the GOAT. It's Joe Montana IMO and Unitas set the standards for all QB's back in the 50's and 60's so I have him 2nd. Unitas had over 40,000 Yards for his career and back then that was unheard of. He also won 2 Championships in the 50's before the SB era. Regarding Montana he was 4-0 in SB games and threw no INT's in those 4 games, he also had over 40,000 Yards for his career + 2 League MVP's and 3 SB MVP's. You guys have to remember back before the 90's, throwing for more than 40,000 Yards was a huge deal. Now days it's a top heavy passing league. Terry Bradshaw won 4 SB's as a starter as well but his Career Stats were suck city and IMO he played on teams that had some of the greatest Defenses of all-time which took a ton of pressure off of him trying to carry a team.

-Back to Brady, no way is he the GOAT. You cant lose to Eli twice in the SB when you are a heavy favorites, having said that other than those 2 blunders Brady has been magnificent on the big stage. Even he wins another SB I don't think I would put him over Montana or Unitas. I have Marino in my Honorable Mentions and he never won 1 but he carried teams/put up huge Stats and by the eye test everyone with common sense knows how great he was. He lost to Montana in the SB he made it too otherwise he would have a Ring. Favre is one of my other Honorable Mentions, he won 3 League MVP's in a row from 1995-1997 + he won a Ring as a starter and put up insane career Stats. He also was the Ironman of Football holding the record for most starts without missing a game. Otto Graham made it as well. He won several Championships before the SB era and came into the league before Unitas but he didn't change the game like Unitas did, Unitas set many standards and was clearly the better pure Passer between those 2.

I think I was the main one on here who believed the Colts would be 7-9 this year....I put them on level with the Saints, cause it's pretty much the same thing. You have a quarterback and a receiver who are pretty much the entire offense, and then no defense just like us, and a vastly improving bad division. The Saints time is long gone. Tampa Bay is the young team of the South to take over, just as Tennessee is gearing up to become a sledgehammer in the future. Atlanta and Carolina will always be the mediocre teams that have winning seasons from time to time.

Yeah you were the main one who said 7-9. lmao  You may be one game off though but to be honest......we do share a lot of similarities with the Saints.

After last year, I don't think I'll ever stop being bitter, since Peyton played the absolute worst statistical season of a SB winning quarterback and had a roided up, dirty defense bail him out every step of the way. If the Saints defense did half of the stuff Denver gets away with, you'd never stop hearing about "bounties". Brees is still playing at a high level, as did Favre at 40 years old. But I don't have much faith in the Saints management to make one final run, but it's what I would want. Forget the records, I want a second ring.

Titans traded their #1 pick last year to the stupid Rams who wasted it on Goff who looked like he was going to be a bust after preseason. I think the Titans are dangerous cause they're building a young team through the draft and now that Adams has kicked the bucket, the management knows what it's doing now.

I want Tennessee in the playoffs. If we get the Dolphins, Steelers, and Titans in the playoffs, already with NE, Oakland and K.C, we'll get a full 1970's AFC playoff picture. The Titans are the old Oilers after all. Would be so cool to have all those old classic teams in the playoffs.

Maybe next year, you never know. The NFC South loves to switch places. I am not sold as much on the Bucs as you are right now. I just am not. Falcons probably right now win the South unless something major happens, they are getting Julio Jones back this weekend too. But, the Falcons are very low odds likely to make a big playoff run.

The Saints need to fix special teams and get some secondary help IMO.

The small talk banter between Chewy & Han after the wookie is released from confinement is awesome like 2 best friends who pretend to get on each other nerves but would do anything to save the other 1 if he had to.

That's why I love that scene in Empire Strikes Back just before Han is frozen in carbonite . A lot of people focus on Solo's line to Leah "I know" regarding her love for Han, which is funny. However, what resonates with me in that scene is Han telling Chewy "You have to take care of the Princess now. There will be another time [when we fight back] okay."

Han the macho guy shares a brief tender moment with Chewbacca just before handcuffs get placed on him where the audience can feel the devotion Solo has to Chewy that goes deeper than a best friend. It's a brotherhood man & both Han & Chewy would do anything to protect the other one. When Chewy moans after Han is frozen, we feel his pain as an audience.

Your Star Wars fan film briefly tapped into that devotion to the other one. When Han & Chewy are walking off saying "lets go get the Millennium Falcon back" I laughed.

Chewy isn't just some loyal sidekick or pet. He's family & a brother from another mother to Solo. He's an equal in Han's eyes. Although Solo would never say it out loud, Chewy means more to him than loot, money, adventure, loose women, his ship, or his own safety.

Not enough writers focus their attention on the dynamic between Han Solo & Chewbacca in my estimation.

I especially love when he points his finger and says "now, we made a deal!" That is sooooooo Harrison Ford. The actor playing him in this video definitely did his home work and studied that stuff to nail it down to a T.

538 is a great source for sports predictions and their data with percentages and statistics.

I give Neil Paine HUGE credit too cause he was the only person all last year who pointed out how weak Carolina was on a historical basis. His article about the Panthers being the worst team ever to reach 11-0, turned out to be totally 100% true once they got to the Super Bowl. That article was spot on and it was written before they went 15-1, it provided the sense of doubt and the fact they could truly implode, and that is something everyone else in sports media ignored last year with the Panthers.

      Quote

As for this Sunday, I am not confident this time around Denver might beat NE. I doubt NE wins big though. Just not sure......it's one of those odd places the Pats seem to be unable to function in. Pats may win something like 20-17. Unless Trevor something just decides to go wild all on the Pats and we all go WHOA MAN.

NE beats them twice last year if the special teams screw ups don't happen in the Brock game, and had the Pats kicked those two field goals instead of going for it in the AFCCG, they would have only been down 1 point and needed a field goal at the end.

I don't see NE losing to them this year. It's probably driving them crazy that they choked away two games to them that they should've won (and a potential 5th Super Bowl had they not screwed up the AFCCG).

So, so sick of the Broncos. Absolutely nothing redeeming or likable about that team whatsoever. if the Saints defense played the way they do with the dirty hits and viciousness, you would never hear the end of "bounties". In the future, people are going to look back and scratch their head over how Gary Kubiak won a Super Bowl given how bad he is as a head coach. Luckiest coach to win a Super Bowl in the past 10 years.

      Quote

They are due to win in Denver and Denver just doesn't have the same magic they had listen, it's just not having Peyton's experience but their Defense isn't playing like it was last season. It's still a Great Defense but last season it was Top 10 all-time material.

Peyton was a non-factor to them last year. He had the worst TD/INT ratio of a Super Bowl winning quarterback in NFL history last year. Trevor whatever-his-last-name-is Something would've won it all last year, hell BROCK would've too. Shame 40 year old Favre didn't have Denver's free agent built defense behind him, or he would have retired with that ring #2 he wanted so badly.

I don't think they are top 10 all time material honestly. They were a fluke lucky team that won most of their games by the skin of their teeth and never truly dominated like historic defenses do. NE beats them if they don't go for the 4th and goal plays twice. Had Denver failed to get home field advantage last year, they probably don't go that far. Everything had to go right for them last year...I'd take the 2002 Tampa Bay defense over them in a heart beat, and that's a historic defense that seems to get overlooked all the time.

      Quote

I won't be suprised if the Lions lose in NY. Giants are pretty solid at home this year.

I still maintain the Packers find their way into the playoffs, I might be wrong but well it seems almost odd if they are not there. Pack might be better as a WC though since it means they can avoid the Giants as long as possible. If the Packers manage to win the division and host the Giants in the first round then uh oh........

Pack needs to win out, and by winning out, they also need Detroit to drop just one game, and then they can tie them at 10-6 if they win out.

The problem for Green Bay is that in recent years, they've lost the road games to divisional opponents in week 17. They struggle on the road in that last week against teams in their division and those games are always close. The Packers are going to need to win in Detroit above all else.

    4. 2006Coltsbestever

      2006Coltsbestever

I wont make this into a debate because I know where you stand and you know where I stand but Peyton was a very huge factor in the AFC Title Game vs the Patriots. To say he was a non-factor to why the Broncos won the SB is just completely wrong. His TD/INT ratio has nothing to do with the way he played against the Patriots when it counted most. If he doesn't play and Brock does in that game, Broncos lose and probably lose by at least 10. If anything Brock is also showing how Bad he is this season when it's his team. I could picture Brock being picked in that game and being rattled, BB would've had him rattled in a first career Title Game start. The Texans are winning inspite of him and still not winning much. Yeah they beat the Colts but even according to you the Colts are Average at best and they are actually with a Bad Defense. Peyton played a perfect 1st Half in that game and had 2 TD's early to set the tone. He had 0 INT's and 0 Fumbles in that game as well. Why you and many others don't acknowledge this is puzzling. If you think Brock Osweiler would've beat the Patriots last season then you must not think much of Brady? A Brady led team wasn't losing to a Brock led team in a Title Game situation, just not buying it. Why do you think BB went for it on 4th down instead of kicking FG's in that game? He knew Peyton was on the other side and BB respected him. I also disagree that the 2015 Broncos didn't have a Top 10 Defense of all-time. I didn't say close to best ever or Top 5, but Top 10 yes. I would take the Steel Curtain of 1978, Bears of 1985, Giants of 1986, Ravens of 2000, Bucs of 2002, Seahawks of 2013 over them but other than that I would roll with Von Miller and that Secondary they had last season over anyone else. That is only 6 Defenses I have witnessed better than the 2015 Broncos that I can think of right off hand that won the SB.

        - By the way I respect your opinion but I just disagree with you and gave you my takes on those subjects. I do think the Patriots will beat the Broncos this week and I picked the Broncos to miss the Playoffs before this season if you remember so we will see if I am right with that prediction. I still have to roll with the Packers winning the SB because that was my before season pick, do I think they will? Probably not but that is who I picked. I stuck with the Broncos last season and it paid off so we will see. Packers have to win out to just make the Playoffs but anything is possible with Rodgers.

    http://www.blackandgoldreview.com/2016/12/05/too-many-cooks

    Quote

That’s a mistake. So long as Sean Payton and Drew Brees are Saints together, wide receivers in New Orleans will be pieces, not focal points, so despite Payton’s protests, Cooks seems destined for a trade. Or maybe Payton’s being honest, and Cooks will remain a Saint.

In that case, the Saints will have to overpay him. Like Cooks, the rest of the NFL doesn’t understand that Saints receivers are only about 75 percent as good as they seem. Expect an eventual bidding war, one the Saints may win as they seek to ease the 2018 or 2019 or 2020 transition to The Successor. So it could be a long time before the truth is revealed: Brandin Cooks may think he’s a temporarily embarrassed all-pro, but really he’s just gentrified Devery Henderson.

My gut tells me we are going to overpay him, but logically, he needs to be traded if they go this route.

We are a 3-13 team without Drew Brees. That is a fact. If any fans out there want to pin blame on Brees, I am willing to grab the shield and go to defending him, cause he is the only reason we can even achieve 7-9 every year. Take him away, we go 3-13 or 2-14.

Take our 7 losses this year and I can easily pinpoint a handful of them that were close games, where we easily get blown out bad if it weren't for Brees. The Chiefs game being Exhibit A - they were up 14-0 and statistically dominated us on every chart, but Brees made the game closer than it should've been.

The Broncos game is another example, where Brees played absolutely lights out in the second half to come back and we probably even win that game if our special teams don't screw it up and have a blocked extra point.

You guys will shock people and beat a team like Seattle at times, but then you go and blow a bunch of games and often in close losses in the last few years.

They do this every year that they start poorly and finish 7-9

2012 - Started 0-4, demolished an undefeated Falcons who went 13-3 team at home

2014 - started 1-4, beat the living hell out of Green Bay at home

2015 - Started 0-3, destroyed an undefeated 5-0 Falcons team at home

2016 - Started 0-3, destroyed the Seahawks at home.

It's become a trend; the Saints will play horrendous the first month of the season, then in October, they'll game plan for that one big game at home and treat it like it's the Super Bowl. The Seahawks game was a 'Bring the Wood' game this year..We haven't had a baseball bat game since 2011, so there you go. Just an example of how they treat that one game...and that will be our highlight of the season. We finish 7-9 but I'll spend the entire summer saying "at least we destroyed the stupid Seahawks!"

And watch Sunday, we will probably beat Tampa Bay cause we usually do win on the road against them, but in 2 weeks, they will stomp us in the ground in the dome. I actually hope Tampa does beat us, cause they're 7-5, and I'd rather them win the NFC South than the stupid damn Falcons.

She's alive and well. She seems to be recovering. She never lost her appetite and remained eating and drinking constantly. Scary little nose bleeds for a few days but it stopped yesterday.

Yes, very terrible pain. I have been super busy this past week. Mostly tired out from all the running around town I've had to do, and my tooth troubles aren't helping me. I don't have dental insurance, but I'm trying to work out something around Chistmas to get it worked on.
