And 3 months later, no more Cooks. This article was true back in December, we are truly better off without him.
http://www.blackandgoldreview.com/2016/12/05/too-many-cooks
QuoteHere’s the thing about Cooks: He’s pretty good at playing receiver, but he has failed in almost every additional role the Saints envisioned for him when they traded up to select him during the 2014 draft. Cooks is the worst punt returner the Saints have had under Sean Payton, which is saying a lot for a punt returner under Sean Payton. He brings nothing to special teams, unlike a Reggie Bush or Darren Sproles. He’s terrible in the open field — when was the last time you saw him beat a tackler in space? — so he doesn’t threaten defenses in the way Bush or Sproles could, or current wunderkind Michael Thomas does. He never produces more than the defense, or his team, gives him.
Cooks has two skills: He catches the ball well, and he runs very fast. Cooks rolled up 84 receptions and 1138 yards last year, and should be close to those numbers again when 2016 finally ends. Watching Cooks get behind a defense and outrun the world is a joy. When he does that, half a dozen or so times a year, it’s great. When he doesn’t, he catches five or six or seven routine passes and forces defenses to account for his speed. He’s fine, but he prioritizes his numbers over his role.

Any guitar or music gurus on here have information on the Marshall 200 amp?

Anyone own a Fiio X1? I'm currently in the market this year for finding an iPod Classic replacement. Mine became corrupted and was unable to fix it just a few years ago. I am not about to blow a bunch of money buying a refurbished one mostly because I cannot afford 400-800 dollars for a new iPod. I am looking for something that gets the same job done of the iPod classic. I don't need a camera, no video players, no pictures, none of this, just a basic stripped down model for storing audio. I've been recommended this thing by a handful of audiophiles, and I am very tempted to buy it as it's only 80 dollars and I figure it's worth a try.

As a guitar player, I've learned that if you can spot the difference between all variations of Reverb in recording, you can pretty much nail whatever decade a song was made in a blindfold test by knowing all the reverb sounds correctly. With digital reverb popularized since the 90's, that might be the reason so many late 90's and 2000's music sound like they were made in the same era (setting aside the evolution in studio production standards). I love digital reverb, so that's not an attack on it, but I do many guitar players that hate reverb with a passion.

At least one major guitar magazine publisher needs to finally do a break down on David Bowie's guitar players.
I've wanted to see someone do this for years, but now I'm considering doing it myself on a blog. As far as guitarists are concerned, Bowie is easily the most accomplishing music icon when it comes to guitar players. Who else can say that they managed to convince Nile Rodgers, Robert Fripp, Peter Frampton, and Tony Visconti to play guitar for them? And this is only established guitarists, not counting the ones he founded (Mick Ronson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Alomar). There is no other pop icon or rock star out there that has such wild accomplishments of guitarists on their resume.

was drinking a little bit earlier and have not gotten to sleep sadly yet so I can't type much. I am so tired too.
But that gif is sooooooooo much better with a few drinks even. omg it's hilarious.
Mr. Ball LOOKS DRUNK in that gif. And his son is like "Just swallow me into the Earth now......please I beg you God if you are real swallow me up right now."

Sadly I think Ball might really go to the Lakers but part of me don't care since this is some entertaining stuff.

I wouldn't put MJ at my #1 at all...Maybe the best player of the 90's, but I don't think he was close to being as good as some of the others, let alone the GOAT... MJ had a lot of help too from Pippen and later Rodman, those Bulls teams always had decent benches. I'd take LeBron over him, as the all around player, and same for Kobe. As much as I liked Kobe, I never thought Kobe was the all around great player that LeBron is. The difference being leadership; LeBron truly has matured the past few years and plays to get everyone involved. Kobe used to drive me insane trying to take every single last shot.
Kobe wouldn't have any of those first 3 championships without Shaq...The biggest mystery in recent sports is that we have no idea how many championships Kobe and Shaq could've won together. I was happy that last year, Kobe FINALLY realized how important Shaq was to him and made that comment that he wished he would have appreciated him more back in the day. Those two had no business hating each other for years. They should've been a duo, cause they were so perfect together in their primes.
QuoteKarl Malone was damn good too but like Marino no Championships. That is how many greats there have been as that is why I have LeBron at 10.
Shaq begged Karl Malone (and Gary Payton) to join the Lakers in 2003, and they did. I always felt sorry for Malone cause I think that was his last season; they got to the Finals and were stomped by the Pistons. Neither Malone or Payton ever won a ring in their careers but they made the Hall of Fame.

Worth noting too - the NBA has changed a lot since a lot of these guys played.
In Wilt's day, there was no 3 point line at all. it's amazing how much he dominated with no 3 pointers.
The rule change in 2002 to allow zone defense has probably changed the game more than ever....A lot of people say the NBA is "soft" now and too easy, but I don't get where they come up with this. Zone defense has completely changed the game inside and out and rendered a lot of older offensive styles completely useless. It has made the game far more difficult for the super star players, and has pretty much led to the shooting game for teams like Golden State.
Jordan himself was against the change of rules, saying that he wouldn't have had the career he had if he had to play with zone defenses back in his prime.
A lot of the players really hate zone defense too. This is a great video if you wanted to see a thorough break down of how zone defense has changed the NBA inside and out. This is a really great video that shows the differences in defense, and it has a lot of stuff from players talking about how much they hate it.

I think LeBron is a Beast and todays best but after watching Jordan, Magic, and Bird growing up I don't see him doing anything that those guys didn't/couldn't do and those guys stayed with the franchises that drafted them their whole career in their primes and won Championships. LeBron in a lot of peoples eyes is a Top 5 player of all-time and many have him ahead of Bird. There are some that rank him as the best ever but I just don't see it. The media today blows a lot of stuff out of proportion as soon as a player wins a Championship or 2, they want to label them the best ever. I watched Magic Johnson growing up and LeBron isn't better than him, Magic may be the best leader in sports history. He won the Championship in his Rookie season and won MVP of the Finals with Kareem injured. He dominated a whole decade when he had the Bird's Celtics to deal with, Doc's Sixers to deal with, Hakeem's Rockets to deal with, then the Bad Boy Pistons rolled around in the late 80's. Magic could beat you without even scoring by getting 15-20 Assists just setting up everyone. I just don't like how the media dismisses what players have done in the past on the spur of the moment because they want to hype up todays best. They do it with Curry too, Curry isn't even a Top 20 player of all-time but he won unanimous MVP last season. The media was ready to put Cam Newton in the Hall of Fame after last season and he stinks this year for example. Andrew Luck has been way better than him this season. When I look at LeBron and Bird, LeBron is the better athlete but doesn't have near the killer instinct Bird had and wasn't near the Shooter or Rebounder Bird was either. Bird was nasty too, he would take a person out if they drove they lane LOL.

Check out my new kittens that are as of today, 16 days old. There's 5 of them, they're healthy, chubby and LOUD. The white one especially thinks it's Prince and tries to scream like a banshee with perfect falsetto.
Note - this little cat is a miniature and it's so hard to believe, as small as she is, she did have 5 kittens. One of them blends in with the pictures cause it's solid gray. These were taken last week before I had to move them. As you can see, one of them is already climbing out. That little white one is a speed demon. I had to move them into a cardboard box cause she was climbing out and following me around the house.
2 grays, 2 blacks and 1 white. All solid colors, except the black one with the tail has a tiny little white spot under it's chin. No names as of yet or anything...

19 days old, I have to put them outside eventually. I didn't get much sleep the other day cause they're so LOUD. They might be tiny but they're loud as hell.
The white one has escaped multiple times. I had to go out and buy a set of cardboard boxes and I built them a box that they can't climb out of.
The mother cat gets on my nerves though...I don't think she has proper maternal instincts cause she has to be forced to tend to the kittens. It's difficult to explain without witnessing it. She ignores them, she'll clean them but I have to take her and put her in the box and make her feed them. That's the main reason I brought them inside. If they were still outside, she probably would've abandoned them by now.

Congrats to #4 making it into the Hall of Fame. The greatest Packers quarterback ever, and the reason a lot of 80's babies fell in love with the NFL. I would not have begun watching football as often if it weren't for #4, thanks for the memories!

My dad has a lot of issues now from a few incidents playing high school football. He got crunched on special teams and still has a pinched nerve in his neck.
I often did running and jogging at times too. More jogging though and I still sometimes do it but on a treadmill not on the road. I don't like to hit the road much with working out anymore. Too many creepy people out there.
I still sometimes figure skate too but thats not like it once was when I was competitive with it. I help out a young girl at times in it and still can do stuff but I don't jump anymore on the ice.
-
I never have put on a pair of skates, if I did I would probably fall flat on my face. That's awesome you were a figure skater! You really have to be in shape to do that. I broke a growth plate in my ankle playing Basketball when I was in HighSchool and so my left foot has always really bothered me off and on, I just ignored the pain and soaked it after running most nights but as I have got older it's got worse arthritic wise. The Treadmill is a great way to stay in shape. I have used it a lot as well besides running outside on the streets. Running on the streets is really rough on your feet and knees.

Romo is in a back brace and he has a broken bone in his neck and the team still is not giving up him coming back later. Sigh......
He got hurt last year twice and gets hurt in his first preseason drive. Very sad stuff. And he has been hurt in the past before too as we know.
I hope Dak is ready, he looked good in preseason so far but he is so young and now he has Cowboys nation wanting him to become the next big thing.
I was looking for a suprise NFC team, perhaps it can be the Cowboys with Dak instead of the Rams with Goff? Rams look to have some issues on offense big time still. And I have had no idea who to pick to win the NFC East.
Rams are planning to start Case Keenum again week 1 and thats a good thing for Goff but this hardly spells out PLAYOFFS. And the Rams o line is GARBAGE. Keenum actually almost got hurt vs. Denver in preseason too.
-
Sorry to hear that you suffer from Chronic back pain like Tony Romo Bogie.
I agree that Dak Prescott is the Cowboys future. I still deplore Dallas as a football team, but Dak is extremely talented as a QB & a nice kid.
I love your Empire Strikes Back Luke Skywalker picture & all, but given my disdain for Dallas in general, I couldn't bring myself to like your 1st post. Sorry my friend. I did like another one though.

Dan Marino 6 TD game from 1986
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198609210nyj.htm
6 TD's isn't enough to save Miami, as the Dolphins fall in overtime as their defense was that bad to surrender 51 points.

Oh yeah, Marino gets rid of it FAST and his long passes were a thing of beauty. We have so many pocket QB's these days who are like clones of him, but I don't know any that really have the pinpoint accuracy and ball control that Marino had. You can see it in old videos, his ball control is just out of this world insane. Those are perfect spiral passes.
Manning is the only modern QB I've seen who comes close. His ball control and accuracy is the closest to Marino. I think if you are judging QB's specifically on just talent alone, Marino should always be considered in the top 3 and he should be the standard used for pass control and accuracy.
QuoteI don't know how they lost this game. Was the run game shaky too and not able to burn up clock?
The Dolphins never had a run game when Marino was there. Going by the stat of this game, they rushed for just 50 yards.
The game kinda turned upside down in the 3rd quarter when the Jets scored on a 50 yard pass and then a 65 yard pass, back to back and went up 10 points, forcing the Dolphins to pull off a comeback.
They lost that game on their defense. The defense was HORRIBLE. That video is from 1986 and the Dolphins defense was absolutely terrible that year. They had multiple games where they gave up 50 points....
You have to see footage of Marino in 1984
That's from 1984, and that video is just insane. His accuracy on those bomb passes is out of this world.
Note - this was back when there was an automatic 15 yard penalty if the QB threw the ball out of bounds. You had to FORCE the ball even if no one was open, which explains why Marino forces that pass to Joe Rose into coverage. Interception numbers used to be drastically higher because of this rule too.
Marino's 1984 season is the year he threw for 5,000 yards and 48 TD's. I still think his 1984 season is more impressive than Brady's 2007 or Brees 2011 season. They broke his records in an era that favors the quarterback and passing game...Marino got his records in a year where you get an automatic 15 yards pushed back if you threw the ball out of bounds.

Okay I am half asleep, or more like 75% asleep but in that video he reminds me a bit of Tom Brady. I can see a lot of Marino in Brady too.
Which is why you always call them today "Marino clones".

2004 Peyton is the first I believe to break the Marino TD record.
I used to feel bad for Peyton when a few years later Brady broke it again with the "Moss and Welker show".
Watching the beginning of that video makes Peyton look like Marino now to me. But Peyton was always big on Marino and always gave him so many compliments.
BTW the music in that video sounds like some club music or something. I feel like I should be drunk on red bull and vodka. BTW thats a bad combination too........you will be up all night wired and drunk at the same time.

Dude......Marino's long passes were so sexy I almost feel bad comparing him to Brady now. But Brady in his short passing game IMO played a lot like Marino looked.
Marino's spirals were PERFECT. In the original video you posted, those are among the best passes I have ever seen in my life.
Screw the Dolphins for never giving him a good enough D consistently and run game. Why did they have so many issues building a good enough balanced team around him?

Cool video, I like the music.
There was a period between 2004 to about 2011 where Manning, Favre, Brady and Brees were breaking all his records.
Favre broke the all time touchdown record in 2007, and Marino gave him a standing ovation during the game, it was pretty crazy.
I actually feel bad about Brees breaking his 1984 records in 2011 cause the Saints had to really pad their stats to get that yardage record and in the end, I feel like we may have sacrificed the possibility of winning a SB by chasing those records.
QuoteScrew the Dolphins for never giving him a good enough D consistently and run game. Why did they have so many issues building a good enough balanced team around him?
I tell people this all the time, don't be angry at him for never winning a SB, be angry at the Dolphins management for failing him. They set him up to fail...They did not build a team around him.
ESPN ran this series some years ago where they had a segment on Dan Marino called "The Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame..." and the segment on Marino went into specifics about how the Dolphins drafting completely failed Marino.
At one time, they passed on taking Thurman Thomas in the 80's, then again they passed on Terrell Davis in the 90's. The video shows how awful his running game was and the defense too. Miami had this streak in the 80's where all their big first round defensive picks were major busts.

I do have to say, the Saints do not have the same mentality from 2011,
Thats an understatement.......lmao
The Saints though often seem cursed on defense like we are with the Colts at times. Although we tend to have a few "good" players who we live and die off of and then we hope the rest around them can play at a level above high school.
Our special teams though have rocked lately. The Saints special teams cost them the win vs. the Giants.
-
Mickey Loomis has been the Saints GM for the past 16 years, and they've only had a decent defense in 4 of those years. That's 1/4th of his entire term.
I'm just going to call it a purgatorial time loop like one of those articles on that site called it.
We know ahead of time the defense is going to suck too...and now I get why. That article broke it down how hiring Rob Ryan was like an alternate universe version of Gregg Williams. Same thing for Dennis Allen, he was here in 2009...and nothing has changed. Our players are still undisciplined and draw pass interference and personal foul penalties as they push receivers down before the ball is even thrown.
If you want a laugh, just look at this
http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2016/10/saints_different_opinions_on_c.html#incart_river_index
That's our players, literally whining about the refs on a legal catch. A CATCH, and they're looking for some excuse...
Saints fans can say what they want about Harper, Jenkins, Porter, all those old players we used to have; but those guys didn't run to the media and blame the refs after close losses. They accepted it and moved on...our guys, were brought up in a toxic environment and it clearly shows with lack of veteran leadership when they run to the media and blame the refs after every loss.

David Bowie would've been 70 today.
-
David Sylvian...one of many Bowie clones from the 70's and 80's. Here he is with his band 'Japan' trying his absolute best to look like his idol.
Doesn't he look familiar?
Bowie from 75
Not going to shade Sylvian's band Japan, Quiet Life is a pretty good song...Mick Karn on bass, proving why he was one of the most sought after bass players of early New Wave. Karn would later go on to do albums with Gary Numan and Kate Bush, as well as producing his own solo records. A unique bass player who definitely made his band (Japan) sound a lot better than they truly were. R.I.P.

I have Japan's album 'Quiet Life', was listening to it yesterday when I posted this.
For a band, they owe a great deal of their sound to Mick Karn. Brilliant bass player, I'll praise him to high heaven cause he deserves it. He was the one thing that made their band a bit unique, remove him from the picture and they would just be a generic New Wave band. Karn did some work with Kate Bush and Gary Numan. With Numan, the song "Subway Called You" really showcases what a fantastic bass player he was.
QuoteIt's almost too blatant how he copies Bowie to me. From movements to sound to looks......I mean sheesh........
The song itself isn't bad if you don't have to look at the Bowie poseur though.
There are many, many, many David Bowie imitators in the music world. From the 70's on up, for the past 4 decades, there has been various Bowie wannabes. They still exist in today's age too.
Some are more obvious than others, and some that begin as Bowie imitators can sometimes turn out to be brilliant artists. But David Sylvian is one of the more blatant ones. He's not the #1 in that category, but definitely is up there among Bowie wannabes.

It's like me always trying to make Alex Smith happen when it can't happen. But, I still try to make it happen.
But, I would rather be an Alex Smith apologist then an Adam Lambert fan.
Alex Smith needs Jim Harbaugh or some other awesome QB friendly coach that can work their magic on him and take advantage of his skill set. I like Andy Reid, but Smith is just not a QB that Reid can work with. Reid needs someone like McNabb or Vick who has a strong arm and is mobile in the pocket, Smith has neither of these things.
Adam Lambert on the other hand, needs some awesome producer. And that's assuming, he can let his ego go for a sessions and actually listen to a producer that tells him that he sings out of key and is way off tempo with his screaming nonsense. Oh yeah, and the producer is probably going to tell him to knock it off with the bad, cheesy covers. Doubt he would listen to that either.
I just compared the two, blame it on the meds for my last surgery
Seriously speaking though, Alex Smith does deserve a bit of empathy cause Harbaugh knew what he was doing with him. I like Andy Reid as a coach, but it's pretty clear that Smith is not his type of QB.
Reid likes QB's with cannon arms and mobility in the pocket. It's not going to happen, but if it was possible, I think Reid's new QB would be Dak Prescott. He has the pocket awareness and mobility that Reid preferred out of his QB's, and he has a canon arm. Reid would work wonders with him.

GRIGANO - if I was a Colts fan, I'd want Pagano gone next. Perhaps Ballard could bring in his own coach, like most GM's do.
it's going to take at least 2 or 3 drafts to really get back on pace. A lot of fans don't really have the patience, but it takes time. The Saints have spent the last 2 years trying to fix all our problems that began in 2014.
