I wouldn't feel bad about bandwagon rooting for any NBA team. Most NBA fans are bandwagon fans who follow a key player. KG's fan base all followed him to Boston, Kobe fans would've followed him to Chicago when he wanted to be traded there. I can tell you, once Anthony Davis leaves New Orleans, whatever team he goes to is going to have some new fans. There is such little interest in the Pelicans down here.

Sad news today with Nick Fairley. I'm not real optimistic on the Saints after this. They just lost a vital key piece of their blitz. I am not expecting them to be really good on the front four now without a key player like Fairley.

Thats okay, I will probably head to bed after this status since I am pretty wiped out today myself. I will get to the message probably tomorrow night when I get some rest. I never feel bad for bandwagoning in the NBA. It's a player fan league usually anyway. If you like Lebron you root for his teams, simple as that. You liked Kobe you liked his team, simple as that. Boston though I do kinda like more for Brad Stevens so is it possible to bandwagon a head coach?  And for the Heat I like Pat Riley. Sometimes I even like the Spurs for Popovich so yeah coach bandwagoning for me is huge in the NBA too.

Kinda ironic that Durant got a ring and finals MVP and Westbrook finally got to do his ultimate ball hogging season and get MVP too.  

Oh yeah, Marino gets rid of it FAST and his long passes were a thing of beauty. We have so many pocket QB's these days who are like clones of him, but I don't know any that really have the pinpoint accuracy and ball control that Marino had. You can see it in old videos, his ball control is just out of this world insane. Those are perfect spiral passes. 

Manning is the only modern QB I've seen who comes close. His ball control and accuracy is the closest to Marino. I think if you are judging QB's specifically on just talent alone, Marino should always be considered in the top 3 and he should be the standard used for pass control and accuracy.

The Dolphins never had a run game when Marino was there. Going by the stat of this game, they rushed for just 50 yards. 

The game kinda turned upside down in the 3rd quarter when the Jets scored on a 50 yard pass and then a 65 yard pass, back to back and went up 10 points, forcing the Dolphins to pull off a comeback. 

They lost that game on their defense. The defense was HORRIBLE. That video is from 1986 and the Dolphins defense was absolutely terrible that year. They had multiple games where they gave up 50 points....

Note - this was back when there was an automatic 15 yard penalty if the QB threw the ball out of bounds. You had to FORCE the ball even if no one was open, which explains why Marino forces that pass to Joe Rose into coverage. Interception numbers used to be drastically higher because of this rule too.

Okay I am half asleep, or more like 75% asleep but in that video he reminds me a bit of Tom Brady. I can see a lot of Marino in Brady too.

2004 Peyton is the first I believe to break the Marino TD record.

There was a period between 2004 to about 2011 where Manning, Favre, Brady and Brees were breaking all his records. 

Favre broke the all time touchdown record in 2007, and Marino gave him a standing ovation during the game, it was pretty crazy. 

I actually feel bad about Brees breaking his 1984 records in 2011 cause the Saints had to really pad their stats to get that yardage record and in the end, I feel like we may have sacrificed the possibility of winning a SB by chasing those records.

So true Bogie. Labels in the early 90's demanded success right out of the gate now. Instead of allowing bands to find their sound or niche over say 2 albums before the company expected growth from the group of a substantial nature. By that I mean, touring to find your loyal devoted audience meant more than radio station play & mainstream Billboard success.

If a band finds the right independent label that gives the artist time to perfect their sound, they've got a shot. But, most major labels view success now based solely on iTunes downloads over the 1st couple of months which doesn't foster creativity longterm.

Yes, I'm well versed in Steve Stevens riffs & fingering on guitar necks. He worked with Billy Idol too. Steve's solos meshed nicely with Vince Neil's voice as well. That Exposed record sounded more like Motley Crue-ish than Nikki Sixx & Tommy Lee did that yr which was released in 1993. 

Favorite track on that album: You Can't Change Me. Spanish guitar vibe intro always appeals to me I guess. See..

I agree with everything you said about 'No Prayer For The Dying' an atrocious album indeed. My favorite studio album with Bruce & the boys is hands down 'Somewhere In Time' released in 1986 with classics like "Stranger In A Strange Land," Heaven Can Wait, & my sentimental favorite "Wasted Years." I never get tired of that track. Gotta hear it on guitar like pronto now. Checkout this woman known as Six string Kitty giving this song it's metal dues: 

It's a travesty that Iron Maiden is still absent from the Rock & Roll HOF man. 

I also have a soft spot for "Seventh Son Of The Seventh Son" too. One of the most challenging & creative percussion arrangements ever created.

I never saw this movie or read the book. It looks interesting. John Steinbeck wrote some powerful stuff. I liked "Grapes of Wrath", both the book (which I read a long time ago) and the movie.

Grapes of Wrath may be the better film IMO. I agree with you, Steinbeck is great. I haven't read the novel of East of Eden but I might since I did enjoy the film. 

East of Eden is a take on the old bible story Cain and Abel with a heavy focus on a father-son relationship. It's a decent film. I thought the emotional connections in the film really drove it since it focuses so heavily on the father and sons and their struggles with one another. 

This old lady though, Jo Van Fleet definitely steals the show when she's on camera. I love it when she tells James Dean "it makes me mad thinking about a rrrrrranch." She was arguably even better in Cool Hand Luke. 

Just the reason most are scared of playing in Boston again...They're a dirty team. 

We will be okay. I mean just have to hope for the best. Hoping is what Lebron teams is all about.......

Green shoved Curry out the way to go yell at a ref during the 2nd quarter. It was when he had the technical foul and Utah went on a 22-9 run after that. He also cussed and yelled at Mike Brown. 

Do not forget the Warriors have yet to play a 100% healthy team. Just like last year...Portland was missing a key player and Utah is banged up too. The Spurs will be banged up as well. 

I notice GS does not defend the paint at all. Even worse now with Mike Brown coaching them. This makes me feel better about the Cavs chances, cause LeBron and Kyrie will attack the paint for sure. Durant is not the antidote for stopping LeBron. If anyone seriously believes that, they need to watch this video and then tell me how useful Durant looked against a good defense. 

Tonight they went iso with Durant too, which if they do that against Cleveland or even San Antonio, they're not going to win. 

The Heat with LeBron were in attack mode in this series. It was all attack. The Cavs are starting to play like this again. Attack, attack, attack. LeBron isn't scared of anyone. 

When Durant gets exposed he becomes a turnover machine. It's seen in that game 5, but it was also seen last year when he and Westbrook accounted for 10 turnovers in less than two minutes vs Golden State in game 6. The reason people don't believe in Durant is because we've seen this time and time again.

I don't know if it's a testament to NE being beaten by the same formula or if the Falcons truly got lucky to have their defense perform at such a high level in the SB. They were the 27th ranked defense and made NE look like garbage for 3 quarters of that game. 

People will study that SB forever, cause it threw all the odds out the window. The stats didn't even matter, a horrible defense made a top ranked offense look useless in that game. That's not even counting all the odds against NE to come back and win due to the Falcons poor coaching.

It looks like the Saints are getting Drew Brees plenty of weapons. They should be much improved this season.

My top 3 films of his are as follows: 1. HEAT, 2. The Insider, & 3. Insomnia. "Carlito's Way" co-starring Sean Penn gets an honorable mention too with it's retro 70's vibe. 

"Scent Of A Woman'...I liked the blind colonel driving the red Ferrari & the young college kid on scholarship talking the Col. down from suicide with his piece. A very powerful scene: 

"What life? I ain't got no life!" Al was a Kennedy Center honoree this past February too. 

Interesting picks...

I tend to divide Pacino's career into 3 categories - 

#1 The prime era (1973 to 1983); great movies include The Godfather, Godfather Part II, Scarecrow, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, ...And Justice For All, and Scarface. All of those movies you could argue he should've won an Oscar for (my money will forever be on 'Justice For All' being the one he got biggest snub for. Pacino carried that movie on his back and covered up the few issues the movie has, all with his acting skills). 

#2 The fading career era (1983-1990); he didn't make any great movies in this period, but Sea of Love was entertaining, and it was cool he got to make a movie with Ellen Barkin back when she was considered an upcoming sex bomb in Hollywood.

#3. Career resurgence (1991-2002); Al Pacino was on fire in the 90's. Not as great as his prime era where he got snubbed multiple Oscars, but still a damn good actor resurrected; GlennGary Glenn Rose, Carlito's Way, Heat, Devil's Advocate, and Insomnia are my picks of this era. 

I don't count anything from the past 10+ years cause Al Pacino these days is a laughing stock who just sleepwalks through movies for a paycheck while putting little effort into anything in his old age. The only credit I can give him is that he's not the only one doing this (cough, cough...Robert De Niro) 

IMO Scent of a Woman is like the diet coke 'Justice For All'. The fact he won his Oscar for that, to me, means that someone knew they screwed it up back in 1979 when he lost. 

The big famous court room speech is a chilled version of this scene. 

Carlito's Way is probably my favorite movie of his. Carlito is what I consider the unofficial sequel to Scarface. Carlito recycles a lot of the smaller actors from Scarface, giving them guest roles here and there. The entire movie is like a "what if" version of Scarface where the question of the mater is, "what if Tony had went to prison and/or changed as a person?". Carlito was a monster drug lord, who comes out of prison and wants to change that about himself, while also being stuck in the same lifestyle with the same scum bags. He's just like Tony Montana, except older, wiser, but naive. It's a redemption tale, and unlike Scarface, his character is very likable in that. You want to root for Carlito, where as with Tony Montana, he pretty much got what was coming to him at the end of the movie. 

With Carlito though, you really knew beforehand it wasn't going to end well....The writing was on the wall already enough for his girlfriend to tell him. But he was too naive to listen. 

I like Penelope Ann Miller in this movie too. She was greatly cast in this. The arguing she has with him felt real, IMO greatly underrated actress. 

Carlito's Way may not have the cultural impact that Scarface had, but it's a great character driven story and I feel it's a criminally underrated film. That film actually has a bit of a cult following today. It don't have the fan base that Scarface has, but there is a pretty good sized cult following of people I've seen that hold that film up on the pedestal.

Steve Kerr is pretty cool. I like him, sadly his team is a bunch of egg heads but he is cool. And he suffers a lot with mysterious health things sadly.

Absolutely, Free Agency just filled holes for the most part. He's hyping the draft as the way to build a team, so it's vital that he hits on those picks. If he misses, we are no better or even worse than last year with our strategy in Free Agency.

GRIGANO - if I was a Colts fan, I'd want Pagano gone next. Perhaps Ballard could bring in his own coach, like most GM's do. 

it's going to take at least 2 or 3 drafts to really get back on pace. A lot of fans don't really have the patience, but it takes time. The Saints have spent the last 2 years trying to fix all our problems that began in 2014.

Indie bands are usually a hit and miss. Many of them tend to be hipster junk or loud, noisy grunge nostalgia. 'Metric' has a more civilized sound, great production and all around very well organized. 

Also helps that Emily Haines is a terrific singer. I love her voice!

I have never been too familiar with Indie bands. Like you said a ton of it is hipster junk or some I have listened to sound like Nirvana clones like they are trying to sound like the album "Bleach" from their garages.

I have Japan's album 'Quiet Life', was listening to it yesterday when I posted this.

For a band, they owe a great deal of their sound to Mick Karn. Brilliant bass player, I'll praise him to high heaven cause he deserves it. He was the one thing that made their band a bit unique, remove him from the picture and they would just be a generic New Wave band. Karn did some work with Kate Bush and Gary Numan. With Numan, the song "Subway Called You" really showcases what a fantastic bass player he was.

The song itself isn't bad if you don't have to look at the Bowie poseur though.

There are many, many, many David Bowie imitators in the music world. From the 70's on up, for the past 4 decades, there has been various Bowie wannabes. They still exist in today's age too.

Some are more obvious than others, and some that begin as Bowie imitators can sometimes turn out to be brilliant artists. But David Sylvian is one of the more blatant ones. He's not the #1 in that category, but definitely is up there among Bowie wannabes. 

You can't copy Bowie since Bowie had a unique gorgeousness and soul that was un-matchable.

I fell asleep yesterday, sorry about that. Was very very tired after cleaning. I did snap some new photos of the cats recently.

Chuck Berry was around forever like BB King. It really is sad to see him go. Now only Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis remain living from that old era, and as for the Blues, we got Otis Rush and Buddy Guy still with us (Buddy who has now been grandfathered into that role of "king of the Blues" since BB passed).

Chuck Berry outlived BB King, that was a surprise to me. I thought he was a few years younger.

I imagine for your father, he was the coolest thing in the world back then. Just watching videos of Chuck Berry is a great pleasure. 

Worth noting; Chuck Berry's 12 bar blues style of rhythm playing rocker songs is so influential. You hear it in practically everything. While he didn't invent the 12 bar blues, he certainly influenced how it's used - fast paced for a rocker. 

The Rolling Stones used his style of 12 bar blues rockers a lot. Even Bowie's Suffragette City uses the 12 bar straight out of the playbook. 

Thanks for starting this status update on Chuck Berry Bogie. I have a great deal of respect for the diversity of your historical musical knowledge across a variety of genres. I sincerely mean that. I'm not exaggerating either. 

I appreciate that nugget you shared on how Berry's death affected your father too Jules. 

I want two guy friends like that to stand next to me looking JUST like that.
