  1. FWIW: This may be right, but I’ve always heard the old saying about draft one every year only applied to quarterbacks. I’ve not heard it applied to RBs.
  2. And what happens when Bowers is picked well before the Colts turn?
  3. Well…. The second Luck retired it was already mid-August. And they didn’t put and old used QB to start. They elevated Jacoby Brissett. It wasn’t until the following year that they went with Philip Rivers and he did GREAT! Won 12 games and nearly won the playoff game in Buffalo. The year after the Colts went with Wentz who was under 30 and did pretty well until the last two weeks of the season. The Colts didn’t go old until the 22 season when they went with Ryan and to me the biggest problem was that the offensive line play was beyond terrible. The reason the Colts went with a series of veteran WB’s is because they were trying to win now. The team was b built to win IF they could only get the quarterback right. Ballard recently said he has failed to get the quarterback right all these years. But he took this approach with the full support of the owner.
  4. If the Colts can’t get Grover signed to a deal of roughly $12 mill per, Ballard isn’t going to turn around and try to sign Wilkins for nearly double that. Wilkins may be better, but he’s not good enough for nearly twice the price. That’s just not happening. Sorry.
  5. Unless some major scandal is revealed he might drop 2-3 spots at most. Top 5-7? Otherwise, no chance he drops to 15.
  6. My point is…. It might cost a small fortune to get MHJ. Maybe a large fortune. I don’t like paying that kind price in picks for a player. Most any player. Even MHJ.
  7. Most here think Irsay was mostly joking, even if there was some wishful thinking involved. Thank God it’s not happening.
  8. FWIW: The Houston deal…. 2/24 was signed later in the summer. After the draft. He was one of the last big names to sign that year. When he was signed after the draft the Colts didn’t lose any draft pick compensation to the Chiefs.
  9. I think those hoping for Ballard to change his ways, especially to spend huge money in the secondary, especially safety, are going to be very disappointed. I suspect he’ll sign a safety, but think it’s most likely going to be under the $10 mill a year mark. Maybe even well under.
  10. RW is not looking to be a backup. He’s looking for playing time. He's looking for opportunity. And when the day comes when he’d be ready to be a backup, he’d likely retire. Besides, he and his wife would likely prefer living out West or in a more glamorous city on the East coast.
  11. Doing what Tenn did is A Way of doing things. But it’s not the only way. Ballard always stresses there many ways to win. I don’t see Ballard ever spending a 3 on a player would likely be mostly a backup. He’d spend a Day 3 pick, the only question is how high.
  12. As for Moss, he’s a back a like a lot. Have since we acquired him in the Hines trade. But even assuming the Colts want Moss back, there is this. At the end of his season, Moss’s agent said his client should get what David Singleton of Detroit got in FA a year ago. 3/18. I don’t think Ballard would pay anything close to that. Maybe 2/10. Maybe. So it may not be enough to bring Moss back. Just saying….
  13. There's no part of me who wants to spend a draft pick on a running back unless maybe it’s a 7. There’s plenty of decent RB’s available in free agency. Thats where you can acquire a decent backup running back.
  14. Justin Simmons of Denver. Right now it’s a false alarm.
  15. I’m not crowning him either. I’m only saying it’s too soon to pass judgement on the kid in a negative way based on his performance. His performance was good. So he’s got plenty of upside at this early stage of his career. If there are still legal or moral issues for Irsay, Ballard, Steichen and the NFL that’s an entirely different story. But to be top third of all tight ends in his first real year of playing I find very encouraging. Hope he sticks.
  16. Again…. It’s worth noting…. For all the regression over the course of the season, he ended ranked 24th out of 73 graded tight ends. Top third of his class. I find the talk of him getting released over any issue other than his legal problems to be preposterous. The argument for cutting being made by some is AO was an A student, but he slumped to being only a B Student. Does that make any sense? The kid was mostly a wide receiver in college and put on weight to be a tight end. He's literally learning how to be a TE in the NFL. Playing wise, so far so good. His legal problems are the only real problem.
  17. Carolina has turned down offers of TWO 1’s for Burns. They reportedly did that back at the trade deadline. What are you reading (source) that’s says they now want to sign and trade him?
  18. And I think he was only 25. And at 3-Tech, he played the position Ballard called the most important in the defense he wants to run. Players like that don’t come along every year.
  19. To be clear, I’m NOT saying he’ll be TE1 next year. I’m only saying it’s too soon to write him off. His career, whether it’s with the Colts or another team, is only now starting. He’s just scratched the surface. Honestly, that’s all I’m saying….
  20. FWIW: even as Ogletree was regressing, as you put it, he was ranked 24th out of 73. In other words, the top third. A player who was mostly a wide receiver in college and who put on weight to play TE in the NFL finished his second season in the top third of all NFL tight ends. All I’m suggesting is that he might be better than you think….
  21. Respectfully…. I don’t know why you think you know what Ogletree’s ceiling is? He showed well in the 22 camp before blowing up his knee, and then had his legal issue in 23. Ballard has been patient with most of his young players who have played. Ogletree hasn’t. So why you think you know what his ceiling is already seems to be jumping the gun.
  22. There’s a reason why Stewart is a one-trick pony. Because the position is designed to prioritize stopping the run. Almost all nose tackles are like Stewart. Wilkins is an exception. He can rush the passer. And despite his skill, Miami is moving on from him. That should tell you they don’t think he’s worth that kind of money. Of course you’d pay Wilkins. You've never met a big name player you wouldn’t trade for or sign as a free agent. You’ve been excited by every shiny toy that has become available since you arrived here. Doesn’t matter how expensive they are or how old they are, you want the Colts to acquire them. If you look at this thread you’ll see multiple posts from me saying I don’t want to pay ANY nose tackle crazy money. A good run stopping nose tackle can be signed for $12 mill or LESS. So I certainly don’t want to pay 50 percent more. I’m not anti-Wilkins, I’m anti paying the position premium money. My approach is the opposite of yours. You’re comfortable with your approach and I’m comfortable with mine. We see this very differently. Sorry.
  23. Im not interested in having Wilkins make more money than Buckner. To me, that’s a bad allocation of money. Honestly, I’m fine with not paying ANY free agent — regardless of position — more than roughly $12 mill per. That’s defense and offense, ST, everything. We still have to re-sign our own.
