You discount someone winning 5 League MVPs. Sometimes I wonder what goes through people's minds lmao . You do realize winning League MVP is an individual award, winning games is a team accomplishment. I get it, winning SBs is the goal and is why I give 1.5 points out to a QB for winning that game but to discredit someone for winning 5 League MVPs deserves a crazy GIF

I believe KC has been carried to their SB victories by Mahomes.

Manning was carried to Both of his SB wins by his D and running game.

His Colt SB win over Rex Grossman, came with 3 TDs and 7 int. Combined for the playoffs and SB.

Denver was even more D and running game.

Brees SB victory, no Colts fan will forget his pick 6.

This does make me wonder how many MVP seasons he failed to win a playoff game. He did have 7 playoffs where he lost the first game. One and done.

It was great watching Marvin destroy the opposition. One of the all-time great route runners, great hands, elite speed, Manning elevated his game over time to keep up with him. (Fewer flutter balls)

I could go on regarding Polian keeping him in offensive weapons rather than building a D.  But it's to deaf ears.

I've been liking what I see from Robinson for a couple weeks now. The only thing that makes me shy away is I think we already have another him on the roster in Paye. There's alot of Missouri D vs (insert offense) on YouTube.

This would mean you believe Paye = Dayo. And we definitely need to add a young high quality prospect for development. They typically take 2 plus years to become good even if drafted in the first half of rd 1.

In the "2024 Important NFL Off-Season Dates…." thread I posted this as a response to whether or not the Colts should consider bringing in Chase Young:

Just for poops and giggles I decided to dig a little deeper here and include some upcoming non-Colts free agents. There's no agenda with this, I just like digging around in these numbers and thought it could create some disussion.

If you have other stats or the like you'd like for me to look up just ask.

The above example was using the players' total snaps. PFF divides these into Run defense and Pass rush snaps (and Coverage snaps if they have any). I think using the actual Pass rush snaps would be a better idea, so that's what I'm going with here.

The following is some basic calculations on how many Pass rush snaps these guys needed to create pressure (Sacks, Hits and Hurries) in the 2023/2024 season - Lower is better:

    Colts players:

    • DeForest Buckner
      • Pass rush snaps: 495
      • Total Pressures: 52
      • Snaps per Pressure: 9.52
    • Samson Ebukam
      • Pass rush snaps: 450
      • Total Pressures: 48
      • Snaps per Pressure: 9.38
    • Tyquan Lewis
      • Pass rush snaps: 259
      • Total Pressures: 44
      • Snaps per Pressure: 5.89
    • Dayo Odeyingbo
      • Pass rush snaps: 365
      • Total Pressures: 29
      • Snaps per Pressure: 12.59
    • Kwity Paye
      • Pass rush snaps: 410
      • Total Pressures: 28
      • Snaps per Pressure: 14.64
    • Grover Stewart
      • Pass rush snaps: 218
      • Total Pressures: 15
      • Snaps per Pressure: 14.53

Lewis has been really good. But he's been a rotational piece, so it's not certain his prodcution would scale. I would like to see a lot more of him though.

    Noteworthy Dline free agents 2024:

    DTs:

    • Chris Jones, DT
      • Pass rush snaps: 482
      • Total Pressures: 75
      • Snaps per Pressure: 6.43
    • Justin Madubuike, DT
      • Pass rush snaps: 512
      • Total Pressures: 64
      • Snaps per Pressure: 9.52
    • Christian Wilkins, DT
      • Pass rush snaps: 563
      • Total Pressures: 58
      • Snaps per Pressure: 8.00
    • DJ Reader, DT
      • Pass rush snaps: 314
      • Total Pressures: 34
      • Snaps per Pressure: 9.24
    • Leonard Williams, DT
      • Pass rush snaps: 221
      • Total Pressures: 22
      • Snaps per Pressure: 10.05
    • Fletcher Cox, DT
      • Pass rush snaps: 480
      • Total Pressures: 43
      • Snaps per Pressure: 11.16

Chris Jones is off the charts man. Heard rumours he wanted $30m/year - yikes!

    DEs:

    • Danielle Hunter, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 613
      • Total Pressures: 80
      • Snaps per Pressure: 7.66
    • Chase Young, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 480
      • Total Pressures: 66
      • Snaps per Pressure: 7.27
    • Josh Allen, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 513
      • Total Pressures: 90
      • Snaps per Pressure: 5.70
    • Brian Burns, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 379
      • Total Pressures: 40
      • Snaps per Pressure: 9.48
    • Jadeveon Clowney, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 482
      • Total Pressures: 71
      • Snaps per Pressure: 6.79
    • Bryce Huff, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 334
      • Total Pressures: 67
      • Snaps per Pressure: 4.99
    • Jonathan Greenard, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 405
      • Total Pressures: 48
      • Snaps per Pressure: 8.44
    • Andrew Van Ginkel, DE
      • Pass rush snaps: 321
      • Total Pressures: 53
      • Snaps per Pressure: 6.06

Josh Allen and Van Ginkel (Who, I'll be honest, I've never heard of..) have done well. Both are OLBs though, so not sure how they would fit in our scheme? From his total snap counts it looks like Bryce Huff is a rotational piece a la Lewis. His prodcution might not scale.

Again, I didn't do this to prove a point or to say we need to go get player x. I just like digging around in these numbers. If there are stats for other positions groups you'd like me to look up I'll gladly do it.

     Thanks for the effort.

It's a helpful reality check that helps one gain another level of perspective.

Yes, that is what I was referring to, when I said under tackle. If he is only playing DE, then yeah, that is the role for him but not sure if he can stay healthy playing more downs, his history hasn't shown that.

We seem to be doing rotations at DE, DT is where we need bodies added because the DT push next to Buckner (assuming he is double teamed) is what will add to pressures and help the DEs mop it up, IMO. I think the focus should be on the direct line to the QB, with more push inside rather than just expecting DEs to flat out beat the OTs exclusively. That is the direct path to pressures, someone other than Buckner beating their 1-on-1s because that forces the QB to step towards the DEs. Stewart is a run down DT, so he isn't going to help in the pass down category.

I have great respect for Grover, he is really solid at taking on double teams, and still making a very good number of tackles. We could use more push.

Dayo and Lewis took a number of of snaps at DT and did OK.

Bryan was pretty bad most of the season and Johnson should have been released by mid-season.

We need some young legs with good starter qualities added to the roster this draft at DT.

Coming to the end of the second season for the 2022 draft class.  Is it me or is this one of the weakest draft classes in recent memory?  With the exception of Sauce Gardner and maybe Aiden Hutchinson not a lot of superstars out of this class.  Highest QB taken was Pickett mid first round.  But when you go through it seems overall was flat.  Thoughts?

Peyton is one of the greatest regular season QB ever. The playoffs are a different story, so many seasons died in Foxboro. When booger McFarlane came here and Bob Sanders was healthy. That was the biggest reason we won the Super Bowl. I know Peyton won two but having Reggie, Marvin, Edgerrin, Freeney, Mathis and Clark we should’ve won more championships.

Manning is the King.......of one and dones.  7

I discount the MVP's because he was pass happy, under utilizing the run game, solely to prove HIS greatness, in pursuit of MVP's.

Most Valuable for a season, doesn't indicate the best player.

On 3rd and long now, the QB has all day

How many times did we give up 3rd and 10 plus??

You should direct your comment to the utter mediocrity of our LB's in zone coverage, and how much better they were at it than our secondary.

And how can one overlook the lazy, simple defense led under the guise of our HC and his ancient, seemingly bewildered LB, and Secondary coaches.

Something is wrong with our defensive side drafting and "development", so look no further than Ballard, Dodds.

I've been watching him with the Niners, and it's been kind of rough at times. I don't see a lot of effort, no real flashes of the standout prospect he was coming out of college, and almost no production. I think he was a liability against the Packers.

No question that he'd be our most talented and gifted Edge, probably the most talented defensive player we've had in a long time, at any position. But he certainly hasn't lived up to his draft standing so far, and he hasn't had the impact with the Niners that everyone expected when they traded for him.

Young has yet to produce on the field better than Paye or Ebukhan.

No matter how he looks in his uniform. IMO Talent in the NFL is only based on production.

As I posted earlier in the thread, the whole thing doesn't make sense. Why would you leave a team that improved 5 games and is on the rise to go a team that declined 3 games and went from being in the SB to being 1 and done? To take the same position as he has now. If I had my choice between staying here or going to Philly, I would stay here if I was going to be doing the same thing. This sounds like a Sirianni thing, and he can target whoever he wants, doesn't matter. We have no intention that I have heard of letting Jim-Bob go.

Lots of words. Yet you are ignorant of the fact he wouldn't have the same responsibilities. Keep your ear to the ground. :bossy:

  10. My poor old eyes saw 4 rushers maintaining their rush lanes keeping QB's contained and getting more than their share of sacks.

Logically, if we mixed coverages like the better defenses do, and blitzed more, we should have considerably more pressures.

But no, we will drop an extra step keeping the ball in front of us, giving up good yardage on runs and screens outside.

     Playing va-niiiiil-aaa D.

Dodds has been really good.  It’s going to be hard to be “better”.  Dodds had a lot to do with Richardson and Taylor being here.

We were told that there was a scout that reported Richardson exceptional, so to be looked at.

And Taylor couldn't have been more well known, and Irsay was credited for telling his GM to move up and get him.

There's talks of him having issues on the outside in the NFL due to some hip tightness (european hips) which will slow him down when he needs to turn 180 degrees and sprit. There's also talks of him having elite traits for a safety in his vision and instincts. I think firstroundmock said his pro comp was the Tyran Mathieu.

     Tyran is what 5'11"  190

     DeJean.           6' +   209

We will see what his 40 is and cone drills

And yes, Ballard/Dodds have been failures providing us with SB caliber DB's.

DeJean Could be a quality CB in Ballard's simplistic D, but maybe a great Safety. History says we will get it wrong.

Just as an aside... I get your point, and mostly agree, but I will always push back on this. Yes, people voiced disappointment, but Jordan Love should not be considered a disappointment, IMO. He didn't play. That's not his fault.

Aaron Rodgers responded to the Packers drafting Jordan Love by putting together consecutive MVP seasons in 2020 and 2021. Then he fell off in 2022, and everyone was ready to move on. But there's not much Jordan Love could have done live up to whatever expectations people had after he was drafted, not with a future HOFer playing like an MVP ahead of him. Put that on the Packers, if someone has to be blamed for it. But not on Love.

And I know you're probably talking about the general perception of Jordan Love, and not necessarily your own thinking. But I think this general perception is nonsense, in this case. It's especially ironic in this case, since Rodgers sat for three years behind Favre...

Just a pet peeve of mine. Carry on.

Judging Love from his first three years as "a HUGE disappointment" is worthy of talking head, pundit, arm chair GM level commentary. Blather.

He came into the league with solid college credentials.

Sitting behind an all time great with a really good offensive mind as a HC should have been a great opportunity. Love looks to be playing near the higher level of draft day expectations by year 4's end.

A fun question, skill wise, dollars being equal, who would you pick as your QB for the next 3 years? Justin Herbert, Tua, D Watson, K Murray, Jordan Love?

     With the first pick...

Ravens defense impressive. Fast, aggressive. Bringing pressure to Stroud from all angles, playing receivers tight.

Gus needs to put this game on repeat all offseason.

Gus is incapable, and the players Ballard and Dodds supply for the back seven are as a unit, 2nd class or lower. Year after year.

Where are all the Stroud lovers at? He was the greatest rookie of all-time last week according to some. Also to the people that say a run 1st QB will never work. Lamar says hold my beer. chuckling homer simpson GIF

Stroud's excellence wasn’t diminished in the least, and Lamar isn't a run first QB.

Stroud's o-line got destroyed and he could use another quality receiver.

AND, if one can comprehend what went on, we witnessed in that game and the San Fran game what it takes to mix zone, with constant disguise and aggression to be a Championship caliber defense. Pretty much the Opposite of the lazy "coaching" scheme with so much questionable talent that Ballard and Dodds outdated vision brings to the table.

Mahomes has repeatedly killed his opponents from day 1 with his legs.

Our poor Andrew would have been a below .500 loser without his running.

Lamar is exceptional because he demands an extra defender to contain his escaping the pocket. When the defense leaves an open lane... it is punished

The Ravens would have beaten us 47-0.

If we had a QB that wore contacts that could actually see the number 14, there would've been more shots down the field when Pierce was wide open. Pittman would in turn benefit from having the safeties clear out.

Pittman is hard as nails. The poor guy hasn't had a legit QB since he came to Indy, so putting those kind of numbers up despite that is impressive.

Pay Pittman, and add another WR that can create separation.

Thank LG for this knowledgeable, common since response.

Of the long list of top receivers, Pittman is more like Keenan Allen. But certainly more physical. We need a Reggie sized, very quick and fast guy that can get open quick to complement our passing attack.

Given that, Pitts receptions will go down but his ypc and TD's will go up. This season he neared his potential. He is a very good player.
