  1. Mathis played decent in this D for the 12 games he suited up. 33 tackles and 8 sacks. He definitely can still run, but I would say he is average at best Against the run. JMO.

Again, I would rather put the money on someone younger, as his body has a lot of wear and I have a hard time seeing his production being anything special going forward.

And again, a 3rd rd pick in this draft should deliver a good starter going forward. Yes I have doubts we could get a 3rd.

As next season is just another of several long steps this roster will take to get a bunch of New starters on it, I don`t see an "Older" Mathis making much of a difference over the Next Man Up during the remainder of his Well Paid contract.

I would have to go with Freeman as our best defender, and Vontae number two. Mathis, Redding, and Bethea were all decent, and just a Bunch of real Mediocrity after that.

  2. There will be a Bunch of players to look at in FAgency. There won`t be ANYONE that Grigs won`t study.

And many will be the next Satelle, McGlynn, Justice, Zibby. All VERY dumpable IMO.

A Huge contract to Mathis, and they paid Freeney $14M. Brandon King, Olson, Vaughn??

All the Options are available this time. Thank Goodness!

  3. Yip, Arians has NO CLUE how to design pass plays that work in the RED ZONE.

Arians plays call for throwing the ball behind, and over the receivers, why did he ever get a job?

Fleenor was open in the end zone against the Ravens and someone threw a pitiful pass towards Reggie only 6 yards away.

    Darn you BA!

  4. [

We have to spend a lot in FA. It's impossible not to. We have to spend 90% of our cap money regardless if the player is good or not. If they are prude in their signing's expect deals to be heavy on the front end instead of the back.

You are right, SGH....My understanding is we cannot drop below the MINIMUM spending limits

I just dont want guys like Ed Reed and Anquan Boldin...who, while quality players, will be retired in 3 years..

Oldie, please read some of the many posts that are clear about the 89% Rule. You and others keep posting wrong info.

the only place I'd consider an over-30 guy would be on the O-line where we have an investment to protect...

...I just want to draft....look for Candaian stars...undrafted free agents...

To meet the minimum requirements?... pay OUR players...was Cory Redding on a 1-year deal..? His value seesm to be more than just his play.

How about Jerell Freeman? Do we have to resign 3-year vet Pat Angerer..Those guys have a at least 1/2 dozen years ahead of them.

Let them see a little cash..we know what they can do for us because they've already done it.

  5. What keeps Teams on top over time is depth. Drafting players a year or two ahead of time so they can move into the rotation after some time to get their minds and bodies NFL ready.

Irsay blew some money on an older Mathis, and he may choose to blow some more, but generally I expect Grigson to spend the money on what is neccessary this offseason and next year too.

They need to see what they get in the next two drafts and evaluate them over a season. By then they will have a number of our own FA`s to commit some Bigger $$$ to.

We are a LONG WAY from having Solid Starters let alone drafting for their future replacements.

  6. He knows he was a Disaster in this D. Of course he would wish he could stay here and contribute, this is HOME.

And these guys may Pay him. The idea makes me want to barf.

Pay him $2M for one year and HOPE he is a Backup/Rotational- pass rush guy. But he will still kill us against the run.

Hopefully he LEAVES for a 4-3 Team where he belongs. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. You have to start somewhere. Seems they put guys on the chalkboard to see what they know.

Someone like Mike Mayock has watched so much tape, done this so long, he is really interesting to listen to as he watches a guy working out. He sees stuff in an instant regarding footwork, flexibility, and so on. But he still wants to see lots of tape to verify game production. Be a blast to sit in with him and listen for a month or two.

Folks here are proposing players that Won`t even be on our draft board after Grigs evaluates them.

  8. Coby was never compared to Gronkowski physically.

And Coby was doing fine till he got injured. And Gronk plays with one of the great accurate throwers of all-time.

Andrew RARELY threw the ball on the money, and was predominately looking down field to boot.

The GOOD thing is BA kept Coby in to block because of... we know. You BECOME a good blocker, and our Team will benefit Greatly from the blocking skills Coby and Duanne developed in year one.

Andrew made a bad throw to Reggie near the goal line against the Ravens when Fleenor was in place for a TD.

WE suffered from Andrew not using his checkdowns and way over targeting Reggie. He MUST Improve.

  9. Prudent? The guy didn`t really say/commit to anything.

What we do have is an Owner who said last year after firing polian he wanted to build a Team that was a Contender over the Long Haul, NOT a Team that flops from 7-9 to 10-6.

This latest tweet confirms his goal.

IMO they made some questionable decisions with a couple FA signings. But they were in a pinch.

Now it is all Free and Clear from the past, they should have a good idea who fits the program, and now they wisely add pieces as opportunity arises.

It does sound PRUDENT to Maintain a Position to be able to sign UFA`s including our own, for several years to come.

And, You Build thru the draft. And we now EXPECT to be drafting back where there are more BUSTS like cough cough Hughes, and the others Brown, Gonzo, Ugoh.

  10. What some KNOW!

In the 2010 Draft Pick 13

    Eagles - DE Brandon Graham

Yr 1 13 Tackles 3 sacks (what we got from FREENEY this yr for $14Million)

    Yr 2 injuries

    yr 3 38 tackles 5.5 sacks

    2010 Draft Pick 16

    Tenn. - DE Derrick Morgan

    Yr 1 5 Tackles 1.5 Sacks

    Yr 2 30 Tackles 2.5 Sacks

    Yr 3 59 Tackles 6.5 Sacks

    2010 Draft Pick 31

    Colts - OLB/DE Jerry Hughes

    Yr 1 6 tackles 0 Sacks

    YR 2 15 Tackles 1 Sack

    Yr 3 41 Tackles 4 Sacks

NEITHER of Hughes Peers that were Drafted MUCH HIGHER did well their 1st two YEARS.

Were they playing behind a Mathis & Freeney?

Does Hughes fit This scheme better?

Hughes didn`t do well in his first two seasons. But kind of like Kruger after Barret Johnson was let go, Hughes played pretty well in this D when he got lots of Reps. Especially considering there was Little to No Threat coming from the otherside when he was paired with Freeney. With more playing time, and you put a double digit sack man opposite Hughes, he would be a solid threat to be Near 10 sacks next season. JMO

Anthony Spencer had a career HIGH of 6 Sacks in a season his 1st 5 Years playing opposite a decent sack man.

This season he jumped to 11. You think he will get 10 next season? Doubtful!

Have to laugh regarding Kruger stepping up this season and knowledgeable fans not mentioning a solid vet being let go to make room for him.

Kruger has been playing for Years within a very knowledgeable Group. What he has learned in knowledge, work ethic, TEAM, should add some hidden value.

At a soon to be 27, he can still get better and be one of the Def. Leader`s for many years to come.

  11. GEE, I would like to see Kruger at a much HIGHER contract.

Mathis was a dumb contract. Are we really stuck with Satelle for three years. Sure glad we got Zibby. D Browns salary doubles this year.

Even when he was at the top of his game, how effective was Freeney without Mathis on the otherside? How effective was Freeney when were BEHIND? How Effective was Freeney when our opponents were RUNNING on us? He was a HUGE Reason Teams often Steam Rolled us. He was a GIGANTIC, Monumental DISASTER. One of the WORST Ever!!

The odds of Kruger coming here are so so. I would be SHOCKED if Grigson wouldn`t trade Kruger for Mathis in a hearbeat at $9M per yr. JMO

  12. Kruger will get what the market offers. How many Teams have systems that can use him, and want him, and have CAP space for him?

Spencer is too old and expensive for our situation. IMO

Do you think we can afford to wait for the draft to sign a pass rusher?

I got a bad feeling they will sign Pathetic 12 tackle Freeney.
