  1. I think you are missing the entire point.

    Try this:

    1. We had Marshall and the 4th overall pick in the draft.

    2. We ended up with Edgerrin, a second round pick (Peterson), and a fifth (Scioli).

    We traded 1 for 2.

Now we could have still drafted Edgerrin if we would have just traded New Orleans and we would have had a butt load of picks on top of it.

Ditka gave the Redskins two first round picks, two third round picks, and a fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh for the fifth overall pick in the draft. Bill knew this. Everyone knew that Ditka was going to do this because he announced it to the whole media days before the draft.

Why would Bill Polian pass up that trade, trade Faulk, draft Edgerrin, and spend a butt load of money on free agents when he had all those picks and Faulk if he just made the trade? It was a very bad business decision and it wasn’t good for the fans either.

Yeah everyone knew what Ditka was going to do, and trading No 4 for all of those picks is without a doubt a great move. The only explanation is BP was really high on EJ and wanted him as a Colt. With all the picks NO gave up , they drafted a whole lot of crappy players, the other side of that coin is the Colts would have drafted much better probably. There was a lot of things could have been done diferently, but we ended up ok in the deal, and Marshall ended up in a place where he thrived. I honestly don't know he makes the HOF if he was not traded. I'm not a Marshall hater, I loved him as a Colt, and am happy for him with the induction. I just think it worked out ok for us too.

  2. Maybe you just had to be a fan all the way back to 1984 to understand. I thought there were more fans here that have been fans for the entire journey. I am starting to realize that many of you are Peyton era only fans. If that is the case then many of the responses I am getting makes sense.

Image if we traded away Dwight Freeney after his first contract for a second and a fifth round pick and then multiply that by 20. That's how someone who has been watching this team (every game) for close to 30 years now felt when we traded Faulk. But if you just hopped along on the Peyton wagon then none of this would make much sense because you’re not emotionally attached to it.

The thing you have to realize is Faulk was a RB, they tend to have short careers. 5 years in the position is a lot, BP knew he was drafting RB, he wanted a set of fresh legs. 90% of RB's flame out after 5 years. And just because we have a different opinion means we are on the "Peyton wagon"? EJ came in the league and led the entire NFL in rushing his first 2 seasons, it is not like we had a HUGE drop off from the position.

You act like the greatest show on turf was all Faulk, it was a lot of talent around him as well. Marshall was a great RB, one of the best of this era yes. He was a very good player with the Colts, but 1 of the 5 seasons he was injured, then he was going to hold out with 2 years remaining on his contract. We had a young team and did not need a hold out when trying to build a team. Factor in we got a really good LB with 1 of those picks in Peterson, the other was a bust I think (maybe was Scioli?.)Bottom line is I'm glad he is in the hall, he deserves it, but I dont think it hurt our organization much if at all getting EJ.

  3. Those RB's you are talking about are of yesterday. RB's have to be recievers and blockers now. It a QB game now dude. Marshall was before his time. Sorry this is supposed to be for ccf who has no idea about the NFL.

Yep, I have no idea about the NFL, watching the league and cheering for the Colts for 15 years doesn't qualify me yet, maybe soon I'll get it. You are a Faulk fan, I get it. But you are in a SLIM minority who would even suggest something like that. Guys like AP, CJ2K their teams are built around them, not the QB. Not every team is a QB first team, maybe you just don't watch enough football to know this. And in fact LT was the best RB of this generation which included Faulk, in their primes I take LT 10/10 times.

  4. you named a few names who are good whats wrong with having more and cutting those who cant perform? polian reads some of these if he thinks the fans are satisfied with one sb will he spend the money to get another?

/facepalm Salary cap, ever heard of it?

  5. would we have made the playoffs without peyton? surround him with better players and get another sb, we are wasting his years putting just average players around him . are we capped out?? no!!

Average players huh? Maybe you should actually watch some of their games? The Colts have been one of the most talented teams in the league, ever heard of Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrsion Edgerin James, Dwight Freeney, Bob Sanders. Do I need to keep naming names? Man that is 1 group of average players I just rolled off the top of my head....... :ignore:

  6. dont we want better players ? are we satisfied with what we have? i thought thats what this forum was for

Not 1 person here wouldn't want a pro bowler at every position, reality is you build your team around a core of KEY players and fill in the rest with the best you can. And the most effective way to do that is draft well, not sign other peoples free agents, because teams like the redskins will outbid you and then go 6-10, cut said player and then do the same thing the next year. Free agency doesnt build championships, good drafting and good management does. I'm done with this topic.

  7. pro bowl dbs save a lot of tds. why not have them

Your right, we should just trade Peyton and Freeney so we can afford a couple of them. That will be great maybe we only give up 10 pts a game (and lose 10-3) you can't have everything, thats not the way it works.

  8. why were simms and harris cut? why did no one else want them?

I'm starting to think you are just trying to either A) annoy people or B) really dont get the NFL. This team has made the playoffs every year since I'm guessing you were about 5 years old. The Colts are the envy of most other franchises in the league with the consistency they show. :coltslogo:

  9. I would have said yell yes. But, even though he has great numbers, there is a reason no one picked him up at the end of his career. Someone shot someone with his gun. Somehow he has no idea how it happend. But, the facts are that his gun was used in a shooting. Thats huge. So I am not to sure. I know the Hall looks at this stuff. But I will say that if Ray Lewis gets into the Hall then alot of people that are supposed to have had bad attitudes and run ins with the law need to start getting in. This dude was at a club where his friends ended up in a fire fight and killing people. He went on trial and wouldnt say anyones names. Come on.

That has nothing to do with his career. and as far as those other WR's Carter, Sharpe, Ect. I dont think they were as good as Marvin, so what if he played with Peyton, so did Jerome Pathon. His numbers are equal or better to all of those guys, but in 2-3 seasons fewer games. Moss and T.O. are the only 2 off top of my head who have comparible numbers and Marv will be eligible before them.

  10. In fairness, you named 2 CBs (Asomugha and Revis) that have talent that only comes in the league every 20 years or so. (If ever)

I don't know if he's a pro bowler or not. I just remember before he was banged up, the guy was a baller. Possibly (probably?) the best CB on the team.

I am not knocking Powers I love the kid, but those 2 players are pro bowlers, that is what a pro bowler is in the NFL. To make it there you have to get a lot of INT's or be so good that people don't even look at the WR you are covering. He is a great kid and very good corner, but if I'm a QB and he is covering my number 1 WR I throw it up. Look at the playoff loss to the jets, Peyton didnt even look at Reggie in that game ( and that kills me to say, because I HATE Rex Ryan and the jets).

  11. kyle i tell it like it is ! are you satisfied with all of our players ,dont you want to see us in the sb

Jim, every player on the roster can't be an all star, there is a salary cap that limits what you can do with your roster. Like I said you dont have to be a great corner to play on the Colts, you have to be able to tackle and try stay in the recievers area for 3-5 seconds until the pass rush reaches. Having average corners is not a huge deal, if you recall we won the SB with a set of rookies playing corner.

  12. Powers is a Pro Bowl Corner. If you feel otherwise, go watch the tape.

Tryon has ALL the potential in the world to be Power 2.0.

What we lack is depth and a nickle (Lacey).

Our starting duo of CB's are solid though.

Powers has not made a pro bowl yet, it's not wise to anoint someone as something they have not achieved. Could he be? Possibly, like I said I love the guy and glad we have him. But calling him a sure fire pro bowler is premature, and I don't need to watch the tape. Ive seen every game he has played. He is solid and the only corner I trust on this team, I just don't think he is tier 1 level (Asomugha, Revis, Ect.)

  13. why cant we pay the money to keep our good players, other teams can pay good players, seems like we let them go and then try to fill the hole with someone that couldnt make another team. are our ticket prices too low to pay good players

We do pay our good players, Manning, Freeney, Wayne, Clark, Saturday, Mathis. Problem is the cap is only so high and you can't keep everyone. Every team spends to the cap or just about to it(specially now that they have too)

  14. Look, Lacey is not very good, anyone who watches the Colts regularly know that. The Colts don't need great corners for a few reasons. 1) everyone runs 70% of the time on us anyways. 2) the pass rush is what makes or breaks our DB's. 3) We play a zone and very rarely will our DB's play in man coverage, our Defensive philosophy is to let them catch it and tackle them right away, concede the short pass, don't get beat deep. While having great CB's would be nice, they cost a lot of money and they are not vital to our style of defense. We pay our big

money to pass rushing, because that is what is vital to our defense, not coverage. I know I'm gonna get harasses for this, but it is true.:colts:

  15. Faulk should go into the hall a Ram, that is where he will be remembered and where most of his success was. As far as slamming BP for trading him, for every Marshall Faulk there are 10 Priest Holmes, meaning a great back getting his career cut short by injuries. Faulk had a lot of miles before he left Indy, RB has a shelf life of maybe 5 years. So the percentages said that Faulk was not worth a big money long term deal. Sometimes the percentages don't work and there is an exception to the rule. But 90% of the time it is the right move to let a RB walk, they used the same strategy with Edge, and they were right on that one. RB is a disposable position, that's just football.

  16. This first ballot talk is craz! He may get in. And if he does, it won't even be close to unanimous. I'd be surprised if he does get in at all.

How is first ballot talk crazy? Marvin's numbers and impact at his position cannot be disputed. I am not even a huge Marvin fan, but have total respect for his career numbers. In his prime years Marvin would have been the no 1 WR on just about any team in the NFL.
