Uhhhh, very creepy....and it wasn't the best idea to begin with.
Some of these NFL Network segments are taking on a cheesy, AM radio morning zoo appearance. "Dancing with the Starters" has been beaten to liquification...but this "Pick Magnet" nonsense may turn out to be NFLN's mother of all stupid programming ideas.
Oh, it was always hokey, but now seeing Darren Sharper give you a sensual smile is enough to induce a fear seizure.

So.......
How creepy is that "Pick Magnet" segment he did for NFL Network now?

Decent experienced WR with leadership qualities.
He'd be a good fit a lot of places, really.

Ah, but odds are their good draft pick will be their own draft pick. They'll just screw up the one they got from us.
Maybe I'm being a little facetious, but here's the list of players they got in the first 3 rounds since 2010 on picks that were acquired in trades: Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, John Hughes, Phil Taylor, Greg Little, Montario Hardesty, Colt McCoy, Shaun Lauvao. Not terribly stellar work there. 2009 included Alex Mack, but also Mohamed Massaquoi and David Veikune, and 2007's picks from trades netted them Brady Quinn and Eric Wright.

The problem with the Browns isn't really so much the volume of bad decision they make, but rather that even when they appear to make a good decision (such as here) they inevitably find a back door into screwing it up.
Trent Richardson may very well end up not being very good for us, but I guarantee that the Browns will end up taking someone worse than him with the pick they got for him. That's just how things go for the Browns. You can set your watch by it.

Meh...
If we go through FA and the draft and find we need a stopgap at a particular position, then sure. Otherwise, nah.

That place is still a mess. I wouldn't blame any player for bailing.

One thing I can possibly get most folks to agree with me on would be...lets close this thread
Probably for the best.

I think it's a little bit insulting to suggest (a) that the opposite of "gay" is "normal", and (b) that a gay pride celebration is no different than a "kill your neighbor" celebration.

I said it 6 or 7 years ago.. the internet will destroy our society. Facebook and Twitter are the worst things to ever happen to modern society... next to video games...
Well, I was being tolerant of people criticizing homosexuality in this thread, but taking a shot at video games?
You're going down, sparky.

It's not a theory, it's a question. After Te'o's "dead girlfriend", Martin's "harassment" I wonder is it possible for Sam to take such a gamble. I am from the outside of the US so I don't know how your society will react and would Sam try to find out it.
Elvis and Jim are dead, right?
It's phenomenally unlikely, to put it mildly.

This, by the way, is all the silly part of all of this. I hate hearing about overly litigious things like this, even though I find the nuances in law interesting (with my very limited knowledge, by the way). But I would be absolutely shocked if Sam goes undrafted, and even more shocked if a lawsuit isn't filed by the NFLPA immediately thereafter.
Sorry about that, I'm a lawyer. I have a tendency to jump right to the practical legal issues.
And, yes, that's a good point about draft boards, if we could find out which teams did so.

In context, discrimination is pretty obvious (doesn't mean it's provable in a court of law). A prospect like Michael Sam not being drafted would be an issue.
Sure, it's easy enough to say, in that circumstance, he was discriminated against, my point was just that it's very difficult to hold individuals or teams, as opposed to the system in general, responsible. If he goes undrafted, it's one thing to say that Michael Sam was the victim of discrimination, it's another to say "Jerry Jones discriminated against him" or "Ryan Grigson discriminated against him" or "Bill Belichick discriminated against him." The closest thing you could say is that the NFL as a whole did it, but the NFL as an entity, specifically the NFL offices, don't make hiring decisions; the teams do. So absent some GM getting recorded as saying "let's not draft the gay guy, because he's gay", there's no real recourse, and even then it's a shaky argument.
-
Having trouble proving discrimination doesn't mean that there wasn't discrimination. Discrimination cases are typically difficult.
I didn't say there wouldn't be, I just said that it's very difficult to establish who was being discriminatory and who was just making an unrelated business decision.
-
You can't really prove discrimination in a case like this anyway.
I mean, if the guy goes undrafted, barring a really terrible combine, it'll probably be because he's gay, but how do you differentiate the teams that didn't draft him because of his sexual orientation from the ones who didn't draft him because he doesn't fit their system or doesn't fill a need position, absent any statements on the record by that team's management on the subject? Too much subjectivity in the scouting process to be able to parse who is discriminating, and who just doesn't need a tweener DE/OLB.

In Boyetts defense, it wasn't because of injury that he didn't work out.
Given the context, I doubt Boyett feels especially defended by your comment.
-
Flellen.
Kind of a pointless exercise though, really.

BTW, just dug up this old article on support for gay athletes in the NFL, and thought it was kinda funny that half the players named in the lede are on the Colts.
-
Yes, they should hire me to fetch Chuck's coffee.
Would totally do that.

Isn't the applicable question whether the Colts can beat the Pats, rather than just whether Luck can beat the Pats?
Um, sure. We're pretty good. Not sure we'll be favored, even at home, but that's nothing new really.

I've heard that his mobility is bad so he can't cover well. So he'll be strictly limited to pass rushing on 3rd down or 2nd and long.
I'll reserve my judgment for the combine. Werner ran a 4.81. I think Sam is a 4.7-ish guy? Plus he's been playing DE, we should give him time to see if he makes progress in terms of building a 3-4 OLB skill set. The Senior Bowl is too early to draw conclusions about the possibility of guys switching positions. Like I said, in terms of size he's fine as a 3-4 OLB with a pass rush focus. I already mentioned he's around the same size as Werner; that's also around the same size as Suggs, Houston, Brooks, Ware, Spencer, Matthews, Smith, etc. Seriously, almost every good 3-4 OLB in the NFL is between 6'2" and 6'4", and between 255 and 265 lbs. Mathis is an anomaly at like 245-250. So, Sam has prototypical 3-4 OLB size at 6'2" (I've heard 6'3" as well) and 260 lbs. And even if Sam puts in a 4.7 40-time that's not bad. That would be about the same as Brooks, Spencer, Matthews, Smith... really all those guys. I mean, heck, I think Robert Mathis ran a 4.67.
Let's wait until Sam becomes more comfortable with what the 3-4 OLB position demands. Physically, he clearly fits the mold of the position.

Your post doesn't even make sense. One, free agents are different than draft picks and not part of what BLESTO nor National provide. Two, no one, including me, has said anything about, "basing his draft picks..." only using it is a source of information. Three, if you lack the knowledge to even post something useful about the topic why even post at all; there are numerous threads on this board where a completely nonsensical post like this would fit right in and there are probably even people in those threads that would think you are witty. There are adults speaking here.
Well, that's not really the point I was trying to make, and that free agents are different than draft picks is irrelevant since the point was that our scouting department has demonstrated a willingness to go off the beaten track in looking for contributors, and thus I suspect they would be reticent to rely too heavily on scouting services that seem to present what could be considered the "general consensus."
But sure, whatever, I'm just an immature child spouting nonsense. Blibbity blobbity bloo.

You think a guy who's signing African rugby players and CFL & Arena league players is basing his draft picks on a cheat sheet produced by a third party?
Riiiiiight.
What moves can Colts make to ensure a Super Bowl?
