Steichen is a bad coach and has a lot of the same qualities as Frank Reich. That new car smell just hasn't worn off yet, and people aren't going to admit it for a couple years. He's already abandoned the run 2 of the past 3 games when we've fallen behind 2 or more scores, and that's with a half remaining where we can catch up. This is with Gardner Minshew, mind you, not Anthony Richardson at QB.

The guy has been a head coach for exactly 8 games. Can we maybe.....

  2. I do think Ballard finally got a good coach in Steichen.

Even though it hasn't been a year, and the jury is still out, his play design is light years better than anything we've had since prob Tom Moore. I think Sirianni was up there, but Frank called the games.

Also I'm not giving Ballard an out, but listening to previous coaches about who to draft (on some players) was to his detriment.

He's hot and cold like every other GM. To insinuate he could of drafted certain players ( like Josh Allen for example) is ridicules . We had Andrew Luck at the time Q was drafted. Remember? Everyone was complaining about lack of Oline talent.

It's meant anecdotally. I know we aren't going to draft Josh Allen and I even said drafting Big Q was a no brainer

  4. Let's look at his drafts starting in 2017 he became GM. I did some opinions on some players, but feel free to agree/disagree. I included some grades from people/groups from those years so you could see how media judged the drafts.

I'll reserve too much judgement for 2022, and 2023 drafts as it typically takes about 3 years to judge accurately.

What do you guys think? Is Ballard as good or as bad as people say he is?

Do we ever get coverage sacks?  I see some defenses getting sacks by rushing three defenders because there isn't anybody open for long periods of time.  That's almost always a zone defense because you don't have 8 guys covering 5 receivers man to man.

Our guys just suck at covering the middle zones.

We might've had a few the couple of games that Brents was playing. I'd have to re-watch. That zone defense only works if you have guys that can cover.

Unfortunately, when your ILB (Franklin) is your best cover guy, you're going to have problems.

I'm also tired of the multi-position/tweener guys Ballard seems to love. Just because you're versatile and can play multiple position across the line, doesn't mean it's a good idea to have a stable full. I would rather have a great DE that's dedicated to that spot than just an ok guy that can move around.

  6. The lack of depth on this team has been exposed. These CB's are sad. Colts are back to making average QB's look amazing and it's hard to watch. Grover gone is a huge hole in the middle as well.

Leonard's play is ridiculously slow, and he's an absolute liability out there.

Franklin is the one of the best (if not the best) LB's in the league!

I wish they wouldn't have abandoned the run game late. Also, where were the wheel routes, passes to RB, or slants?

You aren't going to win many games throwing 3-4 yard passes when it's 3rd and long.

Minshew has quite a few questionable throws per game that should've been INT's.

The refs were again 10000% trash.

Hey.....at least our kicker is good?

  7. Been saying it for a loooong time, but Leonard is the highest paid cheerleader in the NFL.

His play is ridiculously slow, and he's a liability. Opposing players just runs past him constantly.

The majority of his tackles are him running into/shoulder blocking the pile after someone has already made contact.

When Franklin and Speed are out there, the LB play is waaaaay better.

At least Ballard is good at picking LB's and he can get replaced next year.

  8. I remember Irsay and Ballard saying how happy they were to get two amazing DE's in the same draft. (picked Paye first, then Dayo)

He has good versatility playing across the line, but Colts need a really great DE. Hoping he can turn into that.

  9. Downs

    Pittman

    Moss

    JT

    Ogletree

I understand playing JT more cuz he got paid, but I'd like to see more Moss

I'd also like to see Downs, Pittman & McKenzie (Pierce role on outside) on the field at the same time.

Why does it have to be labeled bashing?

The Grover incident is a clear indication there are some leadership issues within the organization.

    its-because-it-is-explaining.gif

I'm not necessarily defending Ballard here, but let's put blame where blame is due.

Grover taking PEDs is Grover's fault.

Rodgers getting busted for gambling is Rodger's fault.

Drafting Ben Banogu, that's Ballard's fault.

    etc
