  1. Strange games today. I thought Jacksonville and Chicago were considered to be top defenses. What happened to them?

  2. I'm not sure what to think about this season's "Blacklist." Red is great, as usual, but the show has gone way off with Liz going rogue. Something is bound to give; Liz can't keep this up without certain circumstances. I liked Tom, what am wondering if he is worth all the trouble.

      Hey there TS,

Thanks for your views on "Blacklist". Out of respect for you, I need to checkout that show & give it another whirl. Perhaps, I was too hasty with my first look at it.

  3. I've been reading Terry Pratchett's "Discworld' novels. They are recommended for anyone who enjoys fantasy mixed with satire. Strange characters, imaginative plots and very entertaining.

  4. Science fiction fans: a recommended read is Dan Simmons "Hyperion" series. Starts with "Hyperion"; The Fall of Hyperion" ; "Endymion" and "The Rise of Endymion." It was written in the 90's, but should still be available. One of the best series I've ever read., just brilliant. It needs to be read in order; otherwise would be a bit confusing.

Thanks for the recommendation TS. I admire individuals who still read books in the 21st Century for leisure as opposed to say forced occupational reading alone that is.

  5. I just finished reading the book "Claude and Camille (author is Stephanie Cowell)" about the Impressionist artist, Monet. It explains his paintings and his relationships with other artists and his one love, Camille Doncieux. Anyone who's admired Monet's water lilies and Gardens at Giverny might like this book. Very well written.

  6. I just finished reading Anne Rice's newest Vampire Chronicles book "Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis." I don't know where she is going with this new one. I don't care about the replimoid creatures, and I miss Lestat being the Brat Prince he was in past books. I read the whole thing, but this latest just didn't cut it for me.

I didn't know she had a new book.  That's too bad.  Rice can go on and on and on about things that you don't care about.  I remember one book where she wouldn't stop taking about the wall paper! That said, I loved the Vampire Chronicles so this is disappointing to hear

You could try reading it; maybe you would like it more that I did. However, this isn't the same as her former Vampire Chronicles. This is kind of a mixture of science fiction and gothic. Much of this book relies on the explanation of cells and genetics. Depends on your interest in those kind of things.

  7. I've been reading Stephen King again. Just finished "The Stand", and am currently reading 'Misery". For those who are into King, I'm pondering now what would happen if Trashman man met Annie Wilkes. Then there is Randall Flagg. Maybe I have too much time on my hands......

What's your favorite King novel? Just curious. Or book to movie adaptation?

    2. teganslaw

I have several favorite novels: "The Stand"; "Misery" and King's newer book, "Revival".

As far as book to movie adaptation: "The Stand" miniseries. The film "Misery" wasn't quite as good as the book, but Kathy Bates hit it out of the park as far as acting. I also liked the movie "The Shining."

  8. The movie "Spider-Man: homecoming" is being released next year. Is the Spider-Man franchise really that popular, or is Hollywood running out of original ideas?  I personally don't care for Spider-Man, but maybe others do?

You're right TS. Spiderman keeps being made over & over again by Marvel Studios. It's definitely well beyond overkill now. I agree 100%.

I really enjoyed 'Spiderman 2' starring Kirsten Dunst & Tobey Mcguire as the 2 main love interests & Doc Oc as the villain. Good flick actually.

Yeah, I know. Marvel is going overboard with the webbed wonder though. To answer your question TS, yes, Hollywood is running out of original ideas. Or, to be blunt, all they care about as an industry is profit & the easiest way to make a killing at the box office is re-treads & remakes, which are crap & devoid of plot, but young people & comic geeks by tickets in droves.

I just saw 'Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice' recently distributed by DC Comics/DC Pictures. Man, is this picture pathetic. Wow. Good actors in it too [Jeremy Irons, Lawrence Fishbourne, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter & Amy Adams] & still a dismal picture with over 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

It's so bad. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Chief nemesis is just atrocious.  How can you assemble high quality actors & give them such an amateur script? Sigh...Nothing is smart, sexy, or funny at all.

Okay, to be completely candid here. I do have a thing for actress Amy Adams. It's not on the same level as say Zoe Saldana, but it's high or right up there.

I just get bummed when Jeremy Irons & Lawrence Fishbourne 2 guys with iconic voices are given lame, filler roles.

I do like breaking down train wreck movies, but I'm not sure the new Bateman movie deserves the roast job SW1 would give it. I'm mulling it over.

  9. So sad to read about the wildfires in Tennessee. I visited Gatlinburg years ago, and had a wonderful time. The area was so beautiful, and it's difficult to imagine that almost everything is destroyed. I hope that eventually they can rebuild it, although it might take a long time.

  10. Go  Raiders! Take care of business on Monday night!

    1. southwest1

The Raiders are mesmerizing to watch right now. Derek Carr & company are flowing & definitely playoff bound this yr TS.

  11. Good week. The Colts won, Titans lost, and the Raiders beat the Broncos! Denver's defense kind of collapsed.

Without Talib Denver isn't the same. He is the vocal leader and intimidator of that team and can cover anyone by himself. Von is the best player but Talib is more vocal. Anyway I agree, this has been 1 of the best weeks in my fandom sports history with the Cubs winning the WS, Colts beating Aaron Rodgers, Pacers destroyed the Bulls Saturday, and the Titans and Jags go down in flames.
