  1. ... the rookie is Chris Childs, a 4th round pick from Arkansas.... went up for a pass in practice, the ball was a bit behind him... and he came down awkwardly....

Must have been really bad... because he tore the patella tendon in ***BOTH*** knees!

I'm sure this has happened before... I"m aware of it happening twice...

Once in the 80's in the NFL... a WR blew up both knees running a pattern over the legendarily bad artificial turf that Veterans stadium had at the time... think the WR tripped over a 'seam' in the turf...

And it happened to a Stanford running back in the early 90's when a player named Mike Mitchell was horse collar dragged down from behind on a long run... again, blew up both knees in one play...

But, it's incredibly rare.... goodbye for this season for Childs... and maybe some of next season too.

It was in 1993. Wendell Davis, Bears WR. I remember that game.

  2. That's really unfortunate. You never want to see anyone get injured. Hopefully he can bounce back from this and return to being one of the league's better O-linemen

I sure hope so of course, but Achillies injuries always worry me, especially a man of Peters' size, and given what his responsibilities are. It was reported that this only pushed his rehab back about 3 weeks, but even the initial injury worries me. Hope I'm wrong, but I fear he may have played his last game as an Eagle.

  3. I hate this idea as it is. Like another poster said, there is only so much you can do to make the game safer. One of the coolest moments in sports is seeing all the flash bulbs go off during the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl. Quit trying to water down the game. Goodell is going to make the NFL the NFFL (National Flag Football League) eventually.

  4. Take care of immediate family. Buy or have my dream house built. Nothing mansion like, just something big enough to have a few luxuries that me and my wife can live in forever. Buy a new truck. Take a nice vacation in the offseason.

  5. Been a season ticket holder since 1999, (although financial reasons are forcing me to give them up). Been to Veterans Stadium and the Linc obviously. Only other stadium I've been to was Texas Stadium when we played down there in 2004. Had a great time down there, although that place was a dump.

  6. I agree and would add a few points. I rarely comment on spygate (actually its cameragate because all teams spy) but here are a few common sense points.

    1. BB pushed the rule as in cannot film for use in the game currently played. The wording is debatable enough to get a 50-50 decision in court but the NFL is not a court so BB quickly complied with the commissioner's finding. Clearly BB is not so stupid to film at the Jets with Mangini just blocks away from NFL HQ in plain sight.

    2. To use it in game you would need sophisticated military hitech helmet cams/communications equip etc. Not even remotely an option.

    3. You can steal signs visibly but not sideline cameras. So what edge does NE get here.

Well you want to get as much data as you can compile to make war plans. Signals are just one piece of all that data. Videos would be easier to go over than hand written notes, laptops ect. Teams change their signals every game so you're compiling data to maybe get a pattern of sorts. Again its about compiling all data available with signals being just one piece.

The part that always got me, was the idea of memorizing an entire half game of all the subtle hand gestures, and syncing them up with the play being run....all during a 12 minute halftime.

  7. If it is an INT, what is there to review? At least hoping they let the play finish before reviewing it. The last thing we want is an inadverdent whistle in the middle of a turnover related play.

There are cases where it's not as clear. Last year, Vick got charged with an INT that clearly hit the ground after watching replays, but those were never shown in the stadium. Most INTs are cut and dry, but I guess it'd be used on passes that may have hit thr ground, or where there's a question if a defender got both feet inbounds.

  8. Bounty gate IMO.

Even as an Eagle fan who's team lost to the Pats in a Super Bowl, I never thought we lost because of Spygate. The Pats were beatable that day. I felt we lost because of our own mistakes and missed opportunities. The act of stealing signals in and of itself is a legal practice. It was their use of a video camera that made it illegal, and I've never been convinced that using a camera makes it that much more effective. Further, their original video taper Matt Walsh, who became known shortly before Super Bowl 42, had an axe to grind with the organization for firing him, revealed a couple things to Goodell in May of 08 when he finally agreed to turn over the evidence he had in his possession. He stated that video tapes stayed in his possession the whole game, and were given to Ernie Adams afterwards, so that would mean they weren't used in the same game. He also stated that he never taped the Rams walkthrough, he was never asked to, and he had no knowledge of anyone having taped it. (The Boston Herald then retracted the story in which they claimed a source claimed it was video taped). Keep in mind, this was not a guy looking to protect the Pats.

Personally, I've always felt that the Pats lack of any more Super Bowls has much more to do with their defense going down hill since 2004. Spygate came to light in 2007. That leaves 2 seasons inbetween in which they were still filming. The 05 Pats team got smacked around in Denver in the divisional round of the playoffs, and the 06 team was lucky to get out of San Deigo in the divisional round, and then blew a 21-3 lead in the AFCCG against the Colts. Since Spygate, they've still won no fewer than 11 games in a season, won 4 out of 5 division titles, 2 #1 seeds, and won 2 AFC Championships. Their bad luck has been facing the Giants who seem to be their kryptonite. Had they faced the Packers and Niners, I think they have 1, possibly 2 more championships.

  9. I think you guys still have one of the better offenses in the league. It's certainly pretty explosive. If you can get your O-line down and have Vick play safer so he doesn't always get hurt, I think you'll be good. The bigger issue is your defense

The O-Line actually ended up being one of our better units once they got to play together. One reason I'm glad we were able to retain Mathis. Our line is now intact until 2014.

Agreed on our defense. The D-Line is good, and we're good at CB. The biggest questions are at safety, and LB, although the trade for Ryans certainly helps if he can even get close to what he was before his injury. Even as he is, he's our best LB.

  10. If I remember correctly, there were players from those teams that came out and said that program was going on during their time in those places. Coy Wire I believe already said it was going on in Buffalo. The problem is what do you do? Do you penalize the organization even though Williams is no longer there? Do you penalize the coaches even though they might be out of the league and not even having an impact on today's game?

I think if you can prove owners had knowledge of it happening, then maybe fines would be in order, but other than NO, I think Williams is too far removed from previous situations where it'd be unfair to punish teams who have no known connection to the situation.

  11. So being a dummy here, what happens to the draft pics that they lose this year and next? Are there just 31 picks those rounds instead of 32, or does someone else somehow get them?

As others have said, there will be 31 picks in the rounds where the Saints lost picks, but I believe the CBA requires 255 total players drafted so extra compensatory picks would likely be added to the end of the draft.

  12. I think anything less would have not been enough. It's one thing to reward big plays like a sack, forced fumble, interception etc but to reward players for intentionally trying to HURT another player is inexcusable and goes completely against the spirit of the game. I'm glad Williams was suspended indefinitely. I really don't think he should ever be allowed back. To work in the NFL is a privilege. To make the millions upon millions of dollars these guys make is a privilege. What they should do is compete with every fiber of their being, follow the rules and respect the spirit of the game and fair competition. What they should not do is try to injure or harm other players.

This makes me wonder if Brees will be back of if he'll start looking elsewhere to distance himself from all this.

Brees is still under control of the Franchise Tag. I believe it may even be the Exclusive Franchise Tag, so he couldn't elect to look elsewhere unless the tag is rescinded.

  13. Teams know how to stop the Wildcat though

I knew that was a matter of time. I heard we made an offer for Tebow, and I'm glad we didn't get him. While I'm not overly fond of Vick as the starter anymore, one positive with him being a starter, is it took the WC out of Reid's offense. He overused it, and with little success. I would worry that getting Tebow would bring it back.
