  6. No DWAYNE Allen didn't play last year because of his hip. Cromartie recovered and still sucked the whole season. There is a reason why he's still on the market and will get a low deal before the age of 30.

First off the hip injury occurred during the season so he probably never did recover until after the season. Second if he waits less than a month he can get a low deal after the age of 30! Fun for him. But really we have enough cap space to sign him to a one year incentive laden contract. If he performs well then great but if not we only lose a couple mil and carry that cap space over to next year. He will be the number two CB here matched up against number two WRs which that alone should cause him to have a better season.

  7. I was looking into him the other day and was really confused. I saw one site had him rated in the middle to late rounds but most that I looked at had him clearly as an undrafted free agent. I got really excited when I was the first site but then was disappointed when no one else was high on him. I guess that could be a good thing. It will be interesting to see if he rises up the draft board as we get closer to the draft.

  8. Shipley out played Satele last year in a different system. Last year was all about the deep ball and big plays. This year we are running a west coast offense with more of a power run game. Shipley is a little better pass blocker and suited for a zone blocking system. Satele is a run blocker better suited for a power run game and is better from shotgun. The quick passes of the west coast offense makes Satele's pass blocking liabilities less of an issue. Plus we will probably only have him starting for another year at most. The odds were Shipley was going to get cut so we might as well get something for him. If he is actually as great of a center as everyone is saying, then he should be the starter in Baltimore next year which will improve the value of the pick we get in return. It may not be my favorite trade ever but I understand it.

  10. Obviously undrafted free agents prefer to sign with teams that have a SB shot and not a team where they have a chance to make the roster. Besides a few of the players listed that is a pretty sad list. Heck we couldn't even get Chris Owusu and he played with our starting QB and TE. He could have had a two month advantage on the other receivers on our roster, worked with a OC who loves fast recievers (marvin harrison, mike wallace), and been on team with a medical staff that helped Collie recover from the same concussion problem that he has.

I do feel we could have made a better selection with the Chandler Harnish pick especially since he will most likely not make the roster. The only thing making me not completely hate the pick is that he attended high school just down the road from me.

  12. This probably is not in the relm of possibilities but I would love it if we could trade Freeney and our second this year or maybe even first next year to the Bears for Forte. I know that Forte is not happy with the signing of Bush but I don't know if he or the Bears would be willing. I'm sure the Colts would be. This would rid us of Freeney's salary and I'm sure he would be willing to sign an extension with the Bears and lessen their cap hit since they are a tampa 2 team. The Bears could then either draft a back in the second round or try to get Stewart from Carolina to platoon with Bush. Without Freeney, we would then have room to pay Forte the money wants and have a great back for the next 4-5 years to complement Luck. Very unlikely but I can dream right?

  13. According to ESPN trading Freeney looks like it could actually happen.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7664912/sources-indianapolis-colts-listening-offers-dwight-freeney

What about instead of trading just Freeney for a draft pick, we pair him with our second pick and try and trade up for Poe? Do you think he has enough value to get us far enough up in the first that Poe would still be around? We could trade our best 4-3 player for our new best 3-4 player.

  14. Even though the scouts are saying that this is a deep draft for DT, there are not many 3-4 DTs in this years draft. Maybe five or six true 3-4 DTs and another couple that could possibly play there. I read somewhere that about half of the teams in the league now run the 3-4 defense. This is why some one like Ta'amu who would normally be a third round talent will probably go in the second. I would be alright with trading down a little later in the second round to pick him and get an extra pick or two as well. I think he is the best pure run stuffing 3-4 NT after Poe. And with the 3 technique so deep this year, we could get a lot better value in the later rounds not to mention we have a full roster of them as well.
