  1. I think the Colts Keep Lefeged even with Zibby signed based on easy cap.

More upgrade needed on the OL: Olsen and Tepper were blown off of the ball and Murphy never saw the field that I know of.

I think McGlynn helps back up the right side. I do not think he is an everyday center. Konz/Blake or Shipley/Kirkpatrick.

I want some of our free agents signed.....I am sure that is coming up. Tamme> Wheeler? is Gonzo staying???

  2. I like looking at mock drafts. I think in some instances, we get into a position where THAT guy we wanted badly at that particular pick just went to someone else 2 or three slots up. So, in your draft we go into round 2, Patriots take Kirkpatrick. As a draft board we now have 30 minutes to decide if we want Gilmore as the 2nd best CB....or Plan B.

Do we want to grab the BEST available at that position, or go for the best DT? Do we not have our center on our roster and go get Konz? This to me makes the draft so great. It is almost like planning battlefield strategy, thus it is called the 'war room.'

Of course we still have free agency pickups and our own free agents, and a big question with Dwight Freeney, but your mock draft makes sense. I would like the big fella from Washington.Ta'Amu....my kind of guy who has a non-stop motor.

Thanks for the blog. I like to bring the perspective of "best available' into the equation as well. That was fun WeSpy!!!

  3. I knew there was going to be trouble when I saw Southwest and WeSpy's names milometers apart on a Subject line of a blog!

Defense and special teams will make a huge difference this year, and we will become captivated but not just the word attack, but the execution of relentless new smash mouth defense.

If we get offensive production we will surprise some folks.,,,I feel we will

Good start WeSpy!!! I look forward to the series.

  4. Yes Brent, we are the brink of March similar to the Idles of March when Brutus stabbed General Julius Caesar in Ancient Rome. If Peyton is not signed with the Colts by the 5th, I shutter to think how this city will react to such disheartening news if Yoda is gone & the proverbial bottom has fallen out.We will all feel like we have been stabbed or punched in the stomach...Disbelief, anger, bargaining, numbness, & finally acceptance...Let's hope these 5 stages of grief unfold peacefully without any visual signs of violence, harm, or property damage of any kind. People must be receptive to the tiny sliver of reality that #18 might be gone. I don't want Peyton released, but it could happen & we must all brace ourselves for this tragic reality. No new uniform please. Peyton was made for blue & white colors only.

I will probably feel the same way I did the day Bob Knight was fired at Indiana. It was just a sickening feeling. To make matters worse the Colts had just suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Raiders. I hope he will be will us, but not feeling good about it.

  5. I hope MIColtsFan is correct. Tomorrow is March 1....so we are 8 full days from the March 8 deadline.

Drew Brees has been offered over $18 million according to John Clayton....and that is 10 million away from Peyton for a QB that had the best total yardage in the history in the NFL. His deal needs done by March 5....he will end up being 'franchised.' Then NO has major cap problems.

  6. I have really strong opinions on this topic, and quite frankly can get way out of line concerning today's youth.

I will keep it simple. Every child has the right to go to school in a safe environment. I had 4 guys that wanted to hurt me from the time I started high school until I finished. I am not going to kid you I was one tough kid. I still was constantly looking over my shoulder, and sometimes worried who was around the corner or down the hall. I even talked to Dad about how to handle it.

Dad was a principal himself, and he said no need to "get suspended for not controlling your own emotions." I have used that phrase throughout my life since especially in some very bad situations where my emotions came very close to getting the best of me. Thanks Pops. I love you!!!

By the way......those guys never wanted one on one with me.....they tried to gang up.....never happened!!!!

  7. I know I felt the same way my first couple of posts. I am waiting for something to really blog about. I am glad to have all of my friends that I had/have on Colts Direct.

I know we get on a roll sometimes, but we are having fun. I like picking topics to post on, and only had one slight conflict that I was 'wrong' on. So in theory it was my fault....I can live with that.

Subvet, I lost you at some point on my friends, but thanks for adding me. I want to bring over a couple of blogs that I liked too, but you guys all have read them and they are old news.

I love the status updates....boy are they fun. I get a laugh every day.

  8. Thanks for the blog MIColtsFan!!

I feel that the key to this change is Coach Pagano himself. I speak mostly on the defensive side of the ball here. Bruce Arians has a solid track record as we know offensively.

Pagano has installed coaches that are know for teaching as much as their schemes. Manusky is known for his conservative calls, but it is Pagano's defense. Manusky will teach. Emmanual taught some excellent players out of Purdue. Ryan Kerrigan. Cliff Avril, Shawn Phillips to name a few. Roy Anders has the great Ed Reed. Enough said....looking forward to the changes...at least defensively.

  9. I want to first say that I was impressed as a non-drafted rookie free agent came in and played well. Lacey is still intriguing to me in that while still short at 5'10'' has some seriously long arms. The last to years as WeSpy says have gone south as far as productivity.

Larry Coyer's lax "Cover Nobody," "Bend But Don't Win," "Prevent a Victory" defense made the entire secondary 10 times worse than we were. The Bengal game was also an example of this as Andy Dalton was 17-21 passing. That was the scheme 'allowing' for underneath routes. I said after this game on Colts.com that if we saw this same defense against the Saints it will be a debacle.....hmmm 62-7 qualifies.

I look above and I already think we are int the running for LaDarius Webb due to head cach Pagano and safeties coach Roy Anderson. Back to Lacey:

Bring him in, give him a non-guaranteed contract, and see if he will play like his rookie year. We will have a full camp. If he does not show enough to the coaching staff let him find a new home. I feel that is a 'fair option' to see if he can fit into a more attacking scheme. He did show flashes after Coyer was fired.

  10. The Colts have Jeff Saturday and Mike Pollak that are both free agents, and I am not sure the Colts seriously want to retain Pollak heading into his second contract. Too much $$$$! Besides Pollak, we only have recently signed AQ Shipley as center possibilities. Shipley was a monster at Penn State. and did not get his shot at Pittsburgh and Philly. Could be the Jeff Saturday of 2012 in my opinion.

I am with my heart and my mind. I want Peyton and Jeff Saturday. We need leadership moving forward. These two epitomize leadership!!

Thanks for the great blogs We Spy!!!

  11. Just saying how it 'hit' me. ESPN is within it's rights as an employer. Overall though, I've not concerned about the employment status of anyone there. And I am serious that people lose their jobs for lesser reasons....or for no particular reason at all.Who knows what else has gone on there at ESPN. But I'm not going to go to bat for someone who makes a remark like that. Sorry, I just didn't like it.===========================================================================================================================================Maureen,My larger point in writing this article was pointing out that younger generations of people might not be acutely or even remotely aware of another culture's racial insensitivity to a word phrase or time period. More & more work environments try to implement sensitivity training seminars, but they can't possibly cover every situation, historical reference, phrase, or word. Younger generations might have no idea that people of Jewish descent historically speaking have had to endure a false stereotypical belief that they were falsely blamed for the Bubonic Plague in Western Europe from 1346-1350 in the 14th Century. Does that mean a lack of ignorance about this fact should result in a person's firing from an occupation if someone makes a joke about being ill & almost feeling like they are on their last leg of wellness last week similar to the Bubonic Plague just because a Jewish community group was offended by the reference? A public apology is in order, but not an automatic firing or dismissal. Sensitivity classes yes of course.

Southwest that was a very interesting analogy to the blasphemous treatment of any person...to be blamed for a disease that decimated Europe.

  12. Was the word used as a historical reference? * in armor? seems to be manufactured controversy to me.. had no one hyper focused on the word *, as being used in an inappropriate form (I don't believe it was intended as derogatory in this context) then we wouldn't even be discussing this today. Society and all races need to remember to laugh at themselves now and then or we loose all sense of humanity. I have a new "neice" this year, an exchange student staying with my sister who is from Vietnam. She is adorable and quickly became a loved family member, despite my father having served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. They had lots to talk about and it was not akward and she also had a chapter at the high school regarding what is now called the "Vietnam Conflict (conflict, ugh)" and the material taught was exactly the same as what she was taught in Vietnam...just the facts. If people could be more honest, real racism would go away. People are just people no matter where they come from, we all want happiness.

Well stated MIColtsFan: My friend's 3 adopted Chinese girls are so gorgeous and smart. One will be in politics, one will be a biologist or chemist, and the other will 'whatever she wants.' She is a true genius.

  13. I am not against your thoughts Maureen. Ron Jaworski got 'relieved' of his duties as some in the forum pointed out possible for swearing on air. They may have said enough is enough.

I saw people fired for eating a sandwich or drinking a coke in their work areas....

I had a boss once who graded me down on a review because I did not say hello to him.....believe me I understand lesser reasons.

  14. I felt compelled to come back to this. I feel strongly that the only possibility for someone to lose their job in this case would be someone who has been 'coached' or disciplined in the past for 'insensitive' remarks toward any race, creed or age.

I know my buddy Southwest and I challenge the 'edge' at times on topics and words when trying to make people laugh or make subtle comparisons. Using "Wink" in the headline may have been over the line and as Maureen says "not cute or funny" Suspension maybe. Firing NO!

Some things that are said on a daily basis on SportsCenter are worse. Listen to Steven A Smith....he tows the line and crosses it sometimes when describing players. Even Chris Berman, who is an icon at ESPN has called players funny names that could be offensive to some.

Southwest, thanks for adding the last paragraph. Love someone for who they are. if they are different in ANY way, learn from their heritage, race, religion, age or disability. I know I love humor and I try to make all of my friends smile, but this topic is not funny....this blog got the old boy's blood flowing. Thanks SW....

  15. As we now teach our kids to write? In some states cursive is no longer taught! Not starting a debate on this...AS I TYPE!

We as a nation...formed as a union! I shalt not recite the rest.

ESPN has decided to eliminate employees (cannot call them journalists in today's world) and have decided to desecrate individuals for WORD CHOICE!!!! Either one would incriminate them selves in the court of public opinion!

ESPN should now look at their principles as so-called journalists name no sources. Why not talk about the WINK? As Southwest so eloquently conveys, reporters{real reporters} are using historical references....and it could have been a whole lot worse.

I hope that ESPN would recognize a difference. If ANYONE disagrees so be it. One of my best friends adopted three gorgeous girls from China....call ME a racist!!!!

    I DARE YA!

  16. I am with all of you. Pierre should be resigned especially since we do not have any idea about Reggie Wayne. We need that one burner.

My fear is that he will ask for way too much since he was the Colts leading receiver despite as WeSpy says a 52.% reception %. The drops and fumbles also are a concern. I think 5 yrs at 9.6 is fair.

I wish I could be a 'fly on the wall' and listen in on Grigson/Pagano/Irsay's discussions on free agency, perceived needs, and of course number 18.

In a related note, I just sneezed pestiferously!! (Is that even an adverb) Thanks WeSpy!!!!!!

  17. I am a little late commenting on this. I need to say the Pro Bowl was an embarrassment to 'American football.' The only player who did not get the 'memo' was Von Miller of the Broncos

I too liked the game when after the Super Bowl, but only if football is being played. I am amazed at the amount of money professional athletes make, and they are afraid they will get hurt? I played for fun and could care less if I got hurt. If I made one year's salary as an NFL player I would retire happily. The charade known as the Pro Bowl should come to an end, or be played with the intent to win!

Where is the pride in the AFC and NFC? There apparently is none anymore.

  18. I am first going to say I may be the best parallel parking whiz in Brownstown, Indiana....population 7,001 drivers, 30,000 cows, 22,000 horses, 75,000 pigs, 6 million chickens, and a partridge in a pear tree. I am THE MVP!(Most Valuable Parker) I still have a hard time with the 10 and 2 technique, but that is another story.

Two of the best backup QBs in my lifetime have been Earl Morrall of the Baltimore Colts and the Miami Dolphins and Billy Kilmer of the Washington Redskins. They seemed ready to play at a moment's notice when Johnny Unitas, Bob Griese and Sonny Jurgensen went down. Being ready separates the men from the boys. It is up to the QB coach and the QB himself to ready to go.

Morrall took over for Johnny Unitas in 1968. Sounds like another legend going down. With and injured Unitas out, Morrall took the Colts to a 13-1 record and the Super Bowl which was lost to the NY Jets. He shared time with Unitas in the loss. He filled in for an injured Bob Griese in Miami's undefeated season. Griese played in the Super Bowl.

Kilmer took over after an aging Jurgensen began to break down wit an assortment of injuries. My favorite memory of this was "Jurgy" was known for having a monster arm. Kilmer was known for throwing 'wounded ducks."

I found a list of Backup QBs that went on to win Super Bowls that came in during the regular season from a Q&A session on Quora by Steve Ritter from NY: I did not check for accuracy, but found the names intriguing:

    • Roger Staubach backed up Craig Morton for the first few games of the 1971 season.
    • Terry Bradshaw was in and out of the starting role his first few years. He lost the job to Joe Gilliam in the 1974 preseason...came back to start and the rest is history.
    • Jim Plunkett started out 1980 backing up Dan Pastorini.
    • Doug Williams only started two games in 1987 and lost them both. He had replaced Jay Schroeder
    • Jeff Hostetler took over for Phil Simms on the 1990..
    • Trent Dilfer backed up Tony Banks to start 2000.
    • Tom Brady was the second-stringer for Drew Bledsoe in early 2001 .
