  1. I feel if there was a year for a team without a superstar qb to make the dance it might be this year. Simply due to it being the year of a backup qb. Additionally,  JT will have fresh legs, coach calls the game to win (new to us), and our defense is starting to come together on the back end and grover being back will be huge. I wouldn't put my life savings on it... but why not us?

I wonder if we'll see any sets with both JT and Moss in the backfield at the same time?  Motion either one out to the slot and then jet sweep them.

Maybe I should send some plays to Shane, I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

Bring back the wildcat with JT and moss?

  3. Rewatched the hit a few times and it looks like AR almost like half slides before he gets hit from the side.  Anyone else notice that or am I seeing things. If he did half slide was that the cause of the injury. I figure if he braces himself and takes the hit squared up he is fine or if he commits to the slide he probably walks away. It was the indecision with his legs not under him that caused him to get slammed harder than needed.

I’m going to say it’s bad luck. If Richardson had been tackled any other way, I think he would have been okay.

I tend to agree, however there are going to be weird tackles and falls ever game. He seems to get hurt if the defender hits him unexpectedly... seems like it might be a little bit of both bad luck and a little on the fragile side.

  5. Bad: Defense started the game like they couldn't be bothered to tackle or put forth much effort. Cox TD woke up the whole team.

Worse: D-line couldn't get pressure on a one legged Stafford behind a banged up line.

Good: our online held up pretty well and moved the pocket away from Donald for the most part.

Great: AR is an absolute "DAWG" to quote Pat McAfee.

  6. I was at the game and the refs were letting them play all game long. Ravens got away with a lot most of the game as well. With hot wet and sloppy the field was players were constantly grabbing eachother down the field because DBs could stay with the WRs after cuts. I am happy it was a no-call because it was consistent with how the game was called.

  7. I think that narrative is weird as well. The colts were considered a qb away from being contenders since Luck left and the roster hasn't changed a whole lot. Last year with bad coaching and terrible qb play the colts beat KC, barely lost to philly at the last second, and should have beat the Vikings. The colts are a lot closer to a playoff team than people realize.

  8. Not sure if AR's int was even all on him. Was his footwork bad and was it a bit of a panic throw... yes. Was it also supposed to be an RPO timing throw, also yes. The timing was a bit off because the bills brought a lot or pressure on most plays. Also, it  looked like AR was expecting Mckenzie to run a flat route and instead he ran a 5yd out. Might be a wrong route on the wr.. if it was supposed to br a 5yd out, it was a poorly run route as he rounded it off. This effects the depth of the route and the timing. It's preseason and the place to make those mistakes.

Just read that on Stampede Blue.  It’s so refreshing to read about a star athlete (or any young person) who doesn’t come off as entitled.

100% and he is only turning 21 this month. The kid can't even buy a beer yet. He was raised right. Might be time to go ahead an order my Richardson jersey

Not directed at you so don't take it directly, but I had a few conversations yesterday with football friends who were saying the same thing about them missing guys. I can't buy that because if your guys get injured what's the other team supposed to do, not play? Screw that, teams were pounding on us when we didn't have Peyton that one season and doing the same when Luck was hurt.

That excuse don't fly with me. Don't like it?? Stay healthy then.

I totally get your point. And I am not using injuries as an excuse for winning it losing. Our guys balled out against who was on the field and that is the game of football. I was stating a specific point that the DC was able to put us in more man coverages because hill and Watkins weren't available. It was a smart adjustment on our part and helped us win the game. I like when coaches are adapting to personnel and circumstances other than just continuingly doing only things they are comfortable with.

Except that man is hard for young players.  It's not because of the "scheme" of it - that's relatively simple.  It's the technique/skill component.  It's the reason why "lockdown" corners are so coveted.

And personnel is 100% part of the equation.  Scouts specifically evaluate players to determine whether they're better in man or zone schemes.  Ideally you want to draft a player that is capable of man (Ya-Sin), but can understand the responsibilities and communication required by zone.

Don't let outcome bias cloud your judgment.

The greater utilization of man coverage (against tendency) worked against a KC team whose best receiver on Sunday night was a guy named Pringle (no Watkins).

The fact that the Colts merely used more man is not the sole reason for the positive outcome on Sunday night.  You have to also execute the man coverage.  When you don't, you're going to get torched for big plays.

All that said, I absolutely agree that the Colts should continue to mix it up more than they have (i.e., more than 25% man coverage in any given game), depending on the opponent and personnel availability (i.e., do we have the healthy bodies required).  It makes life much harder for QBs when you execute it properly.  It also potentiates the pass rush.

I kind of feel the opposite that with all the injuries in the secondary it was easier to go man coverages. Zone requires trust and feel for each other that comes with time and chemistry. Man coverages is just don't get embarrassed on national TV.
