Gay really paid off today - 5 for 5 in field goals, 4 from beyond 50 yards, he's the NFL Special Teams Player of this week without a doubt!

He set an NFL record, so I would hope so.

I know this post is going to catch tons of heat and I’m ok with that so here goes lol.  First of all I’m not a conspiracy guy but I think this is totally plausible yet highly unlikely.  Could luck have retired in order to maybe get off the drug testing pool and maybe get on some good stuff, maybe not unlike the stuff he got from Europe last time he was recovering........maybe some form of hgh, stem cell therapy or treatments not allowed by the nfl in order to heal completely and come back?

However in order for this entire scenario to be plausible which I reiterate probably isn’t, the nfl would have to take retired players out of their testing pool. Does anyone know the drug testing rules for retired players?? Also what are the rules for stem cell therapies?

This type of stuff has happened in other sports before. Brock Lesnar used a Nevada State athletic commission loophole to compete completely juiced to the gills.

I’m not calling luck a cheater at all I’m just saying he could be using every tool to come back healthy for the first time since his career started in Indy.

If his shoulder were still an issue, your conjecture might have some merit.

In any case, the NFL likely has no authority over retired players.  I'll guess that Robert Mathis is no longer being tested.

Well...mediocrity is what we get with Mr. Game Manager...last in passing yards...and even those yards were largely YAC.

You can't possibly know this season is going to be mediocre or not just 2 games in. If Vinatieri hadn't had a meltdown, we'd be 2-0.

And JB might have below average passing yards this year, but he'll also likely throw fewer than average interceptions.

In any case, I fully expect him to improve throughout the season, and since I lack your crystal ball, I am reserving judgment until more data come in.

He’s not overrated.  He’s without question the greatest kicker of all time.  Still we might very well be watching the end of his career right now, Father Time is undefeated.  That’s not overrated, it’s the end of ones career.  It’s like saying Peyton Manning was overrated because of the last season of his career.

Actually, it is overrated, if Vinatieri stays now because of what he's done in the past.  He'd be staying because of his reputation, or "rating", if you will.

Bought the shirt last year. Putting it on now and hoping it is our standing after today.

Well, back in its drawer for another year.

I would hate to cut anyone past Milligan, but we do have position groups that are a bit overstaffed compared to a typical roster.

LB (6) - We play 2 LBs 80+% of the time...... Not sure we need to carry 6 given that, and both SAMs are probably the 5th and 6th best. Honestly if we're going to have 3 LBs on the field at the same time I'd rather it be Walker and Maniac, plus either Speed or Okereke. While I love both Adams and Franklin, we could function just fine with one of them.

WR (6) - I love having the luxury of 6, but we simply don't need 6. Especially if we can figure out an alternative on returns. I'd rather keep 6 WRs than 4 TEs though (in general given our scheme).

TE (4) - We used 2 TE sets about a 1/4 of the snaps IIRC. That's not much and doesn't really justify 4. I would hate to risk losing Hentges but keeping 4 is also a luxury. While I would typically prefer 6 WR over 4 TEs due to snap counts/scheme, I think Hale is a better long term prospect than Pascal.

DL (10) - I'd love to keep all 10, but 10 guys for 4 positions is a luxury, especially when we have only 8 right now for only 5 OL spots.

In short, I'm OK with carrying 3 QBs for the year, but Hoyer isn't anything to get excited about. Cutting him mid season if they became confident in CK is something that wouldn't shock me. We can certainly afford it. But even if he's here for the year, the roster will be healthy even if we have to cut Milligan +1.

Well thought out response.  Thing is, unlike in past years, every guy in each of those positions appears to be deserving and able to step up and play, if needed.

We'll see soon how this all plays out.

I am cool with signing Hoyer for the year, he has always played well against the Colts, he’s smart and a vet! I say this with 1  caveat I want to KEEP Chad Kelly! Don’t cut him!!  It would be fine for this year!  Remember folks Jacoby is a free agent after next year as well

I'd like both a vet QB and Kelly, also, but I don't like the idea of cutting two guys from what looks like a good roster of 53 to make it happen.

We need 'a guy' who will agree to a 2-week contract or a 5-week contract (bye week follows) or longer (depends on Kelly getting up to speed).

Most QBs out there want a full time job for the year.

Yes, of course QBs want a longer term contract, but someone will take a short term contract to hold a clipboard because it pays so well and is better than being out of the league entirely.
