I just thought I would take this opportunity to brag a bit about the fact that I had the opportunity to chat with Peyton at the Masters last week for about 5 minutes.  Truly a bucket list experience and I must say, he has the Southern Hospitality that one might expect but wow- did not expect to run into him and it was quite the experience.  It just had to be the one place left on earth where cell phones are banned, so no picture opportunity unfortunately.

I told Peyton that my first Colts experience was riding to Buffalo in a blizzard when the Colts were 14-0 and they benched him only to lose that game. I said thanks for my first Colts experience being one where he was riding the pine.  He laughed, apologized to me and said that if it was up to him he would have been checking down in that snow storm for 4 quarters.  He thanked me for the support, and was asking me a bit about myself, where I am from, etc.  Quite the gentleman! I think it was obligatory for him to be nice to patrons while he was wearing his Green Jacket, but none the less....a great experience meeting a childhood hero. Lynn Swann walked up to us while we were talking and shook Peyton's hand.  I joked that now was the perfect time for a 10 yard slant- and then slid into the bushes like Homer Simpson with humility.

    Unforgettable experience everyone!

Would love to hear some of your Peyton stories from over the years, since it is a bit of a slow time of year before the draft! Let it fly Colts fans

    Great story !

It would have been awesome if you could have got a selfie with him.

The thing with Paye is that Ballard has to make a decision on his 5th year option right after the draft. It's only projected to be $13.4M, but the draft could really influence that.

Dayo is also set to be a FA. He hasn't really proven he can be a starter yet. And even as a part-time player, he will cost some money to bring back.

I think something has to give with the ER positions, so a R1 ER is very likely if the board falls that way.

Ok I thought I had seen other teams pick up the 5th year option after the 4th year.

I'm betting Ballard picks up the option keeping him here for 2 more years

You continue to make the same basic argument that so many here do.    They view young players as players who will not get better when the opposite is true.

Brents should get better.  So should Jones, so should Flowers.  And the Colts are very likely to take a corner in the first 3-4 rounds.   So the secondary WILL be better.  Experience will make them better.

To your point Paye has been improving as well.

He quietly got 8.5 sacks last season.

So maybe Ballard sticks with Paye and get ER depth in the later rounds ?

Interesting that the latest PFF mock has moved CB Mitchell to the 22nd pick, and DE Turner to the 23rd pick in the draft. They predict Verse is the first DE off the board to the Falcons at #8, and Arnold as the first CB off the board to the raiders at #13. PFF, like may other mocks PFF has Bowers to the Jets at #10 and Dejean to the Colts as the 2nd CB off the board. They have 4 QB's taken before the Colts pick. WR's - Harrison #4, Nabors #6, Odunze #11

Seems to be much more noise this year about the number of teams possibly moving their position in round one than in years past; with a rarity, the Colts among them. Sure, it is all just speculation. but also a little more interesting this year.

That would be a typical Falcon move... Lol !

Verse is a nice player but to me you absolutely take the player from Alabama who's a one man wrecking crew.

The SEC is a much tougher conference as well.  No disrespect to FSU which is playing in a much softer conference.

However, if the Falcons bit on Verse, Turner could fall to 15.

  5. For the trade back fans....

Randy Mueller of the Athletic says - maybe only ~150 draftable players this year

”After several classes overflowing with talented prospects (mainly due to the extra year of eligibility granted because of the pandemic), with as many as 350 names filling NFL teams’ draft boards, teams could struggle to get 150 names on their boards this year. This is dangerous for two reasons: The top players will disappear quickly, and teams will have to guard against the risk of overdrafting players in the later rounds. It might be a good opportunity for some teams to trade picks, maybe to move up into the first four rounds, or for a veteran player who brings more certainty. For that reason, there will be a lot of trade talk over the next couple of weeks.”

See my post above. Do you think he could last until 9? I know morris would like to go defense as that’s his specialty and feels a need…

    Turner until 9 ? no.

Falcons were thinking of trading up from 8 when they were looking for a QB.

They were going from 8 to 3 to land Jayden Daniels.

But then they got Kirk Cousins so looks like they are staying at 8 and will grab the best edge possible - Turner.

At least thats what all the local talk radio is saying.

Any scenario that involves Turner really involves the Falcons, and it was not clear from your post above what the Falcons would be doing at 8.

BTW, I like the idea of Nabors at 9...

if Bowers is there at #15 and he is by far the best player there, then you take him  I don't a  see  corner of value at #15 if Mitchel is gone. If the Colts were to take a guy like Mitchell  with their 1st pick whether it be bye  trade up and/or at #15, it would suggest to me there is a shift in defensive philosophy as he is a man corner. That would be exciting for me.  To me if the  Colts are to go defense with their 1st pick, I really hope they are ready to get that guy if it means trading up. I would believe that the Colts may have one corner and maybe 3 DE's that are worthy of a top 15 pick. The rest of the corners are mostly zone corners and you can get those later in the draft. Turner, Verse and Latu. Latu is intriguing as he could slide because of medical but some say he is worthy of a top 6 pick. He reminds me of Sweat when the Colts bypassed him because of the medical and picked Sin in the 2nd.

Latu may be available at 15 but he's not as good as Turner.

Turner will be taken by the Falcons at 8.

TRADE IDEA.  I just read where Mark Davis has given new GM Tom Telesco permission to move up in the draft for a quarterback if it makes sense.  They are sitting at pick 13.  We know Ballard was trying to sign Danielle Hunter to a big contract and lost out.  Obviously still trying for that premium ER.  How about Ballard does a trade similar to the Buckner trade.  Offer our pick 15 to the Raiders for Max Crosby.  According to the draft charts our pick coupled with pick 13 results in 2200 points which coincidentally is the equivalent to pick 3 value wise.  They could always add an extra pick or so if need be to trade up. They might not have to go all the way up to 3 either.  I also wouldn’t have a problem including Dayo or Kwity as part of the trade to give them a player to replace Crosby.  I would think a trade like this would be agreed to in advance of the draft and would only go down if the quarterback they wanted was there.  If they did go to three and they liked a couple then I would think it could be done before the draft.  The big question is would the Raiders part with Crosby to get the franchise quarterback they want.  I could see this is a win win if they really want to get a quarterback this year.  Knowing how Ballard tried for the veteran Hunter I could see him at least having the conversation with Telesco. Maybe they say no or maybe they say let us think about it.  If Telesco wants to bring in his own quarterback this is the perfect time for him.  Just a thought on my part two weeks before the draft.  I believe we traded for Buckner before the draft so having a conversation with Telesco now makes sense to me.  If Ballard wants to make a splash move this trade proposal would certainly qualify and fill a major need as well.  Like I said two weeks to go to the draft.  Seems like forever.

    Not a bad idea.

Crosby still has 3 years left on a 94M dollar contract.

No way Ballard will pay that much or even take that on.
