  1. I like the signing, especially after having lost Minshew to the Raiders. If Flacco is forced to play as many games as Gardner was, we're screwed anyway but Joe is a seasoned veteran who won a Superbowl as a starting QB, and the knowledge he can offer AR in that respect could be invaluable.

Yeah, Gates not being a first ballot Hall of Famer is mind blowing. Maybe, the NBA will show him the respect he deserves and vote him into their Hall of Fame, being he played basketball in college, not football.

Matt Ryan is a Hall of Famer, he was better than Joe Namath on any measuring stickchuckling homer simpson GIF. He just didn't wear Fur Coats and Pantyhose lmao . If it wasn't for the worse coaching of all-time, Ryan would even be a SB winner.

The next few years will be a referendum on how much weight Superbowl rings carry in Hall of fame selections, compared to QBs of the past - there are currently 5 QBs in the Superbowl era without rings in Canton (Fran Tarkenton, Dan Fouts, Warren Moon, Jim Kelly & Dan Marino) and Philip Rivers has more passing yards & touchdown passes than each of them so if he is denied, it will be questionable at best.

Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers will both get in, probably not 1st ballot though. IMO, both have an argument to being a top 25 QB of all-time. Matt won an MVP and won an NFC Title (2016) + had great seasons in 2008, 2010, and 2012. Rivers by my eye test, was a hair better than Ryan, no MVP's but he always had either Brady, Peyton, or Ben to deal with in that Conference. River's longevity, Durability, smarts as a QB, and Stats gets him in. He also made a Championship Game playing on 1 leg.

Philip should get in on his 1st ballot, he won't be up against either Big Ben or Eli, (unless he gets snubbed on his 1st try) and he's got better statistics than the both of them. Eli will come eligible the year before Rivers, he's a Manning with 2 SB MVPs so he'll get in with his .500 career record, and when Philip comes up the following year with superior stats, it'll be hard to justify keeping him out. Roethlisberger will get in on the strength of his 3 Superbowl appearances with 2 wins.

Congratulations to this year's Hall of Fame class:

    Julius Peppers

    Dwight Freeney

    Devin Hester

    Andre Johnson

    Patrick Willis

    Steve McMichael (senior candidate)

    Randy Gradishar (senior candidates)

I'm surprised that Antonio Gates did not make it. I thought he was a shoo-in to be voted in on the first ballot. Maybe next year.

I was not expecting Andre Johnson to get in that quickly. However, everyone is well-deserving. I'm glad that Willis was not punished for retiring early, during his prime. He was a great player.

I'm not just surprised that Antonio Gates didn't get in, I'm utterly shocked! He's got the most touchdown receptions of any Tight End in NFL history, 5 ahead of Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez in 1 fewer season and he's #7 All Time in that category, the 6 above him (Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison & Larry Fitzgerald, all Hall of Famers with the exception of Fitzgerald who will be eligible next year) were all Wide Receivers!

Whoever didn't vote for Antonio should lose their privileges, the only advantage that I can think of that Gates had over Gonzalez is that Antonio had back-to back future Hall of Fame quarterbacks throwing to him in Drew Brees & Philip Rivers, where as the only potential HOF QB that Tony had was Matt Ryan at the end of his career, and there's no guarantee that Matt gets in.

As a Chicago native it is insane how snake bitten the Bears have been with QB’s throughout the years.  Cade McNown,  Trubisky on top of all the others you named.

Justin Fields has shown flashes but I imagine they see Williams as a big upgrade.  But man with Virginia and the McCaskey’s  I’m not sure any quarterback will ever succeed there.  I had heard a rumor that Williams didn’t want to go to Chicago.  Hard to blame him.  But I think they’re going to draft him.

as far as Flus I think they want to do a soft reset and then throw him in Lake Michigan next year after they have had a year to evaluate what kind of coach they will need going forward.  In my opinion this is the ONLY reason he is still there.

Congrats to former Bears Devin Hester, Steve McMichael  & Julius Peppers who were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Bieniemy not getting a head coaching job is one of the most puzzling things I have ever seen. He has earned that chance IMO after how he helped the Chiefs win 2 SBs.

I think it's fair to say that the Chiefs won those 2 Superbowls more because of Andy Reid & Patrick Mahomes than their OC, especially if they win on Sunday.

Josh McDaniels was on New England's coaching staff for all 6 of Brady's SB wins with the Patriots, and he blew both Head Coaching opportunities he got and finished a total of 12 games under .500 collectively. Some people are just better as Coordinators, like Norv Turner and many others.

Name 5 High level Bear QB’s in Franchise history. Fields has shown he is capable of winning games with his legs alone. Take the obvious Franchise player in Harrison Jr. and trade back in the draft with the ninth. Maybe draft McCarthy or depending on Raiders drafting a qb, trade for O Connell, as Fields backup.

Sid Luckman - Drafted by the Bears #2 overall in 1939, played his entire career (12 years) in Chicago, starting 61 of the 128 games he played, 5-1 record in the postseason with 4 championships & 5 first team All Pro selections, he was the 1st QB  to throw 7 TD passes in a game, a feat since duplicated by 7 others (Adrian Burk, George Blanda, Y. A. Tittle, Joe Kapp, Peyton Manning, Nick Foles & Drew Brees)  and he is a member of both the College & Pro Football Halls of Fame.

Jim McMahon - Drafted by the Bears #5 in the 1st Round, played 7 seasons, started 61 of the 66 games he played with a 46-15 record, and a victory in Superbowl XX.

Jay Cutler - Traded from Denver to Chicago while he was a Pro Bowl QB, played 8 seasons, started all 102 games he played for the Bears, with a .500 record (51-51) throwing 154 touchdowns against 109 picks.

Rex Grossman - Drafted by the Bears in the 1st Round, (#22) played 6 seasons, started 31 of the 36 games he played with a 19-12 record, led them to Superbowl XLI with the same regular season stats (23 TDs & 20 interceptions) that Eli Manning had when he led the Giants to Superbowl XLII the following season.

Jim Harbaugh - Drafted by the Bears in the 1st Round, (#26) played 7 seasons, started 65 games and played in 89 with a 35-30 record with 50 touchdowns & 56 interceptions.

Justin Fields was drafted #11 overall in 2021, he's started 38 of the 40 games he's played in with a 10-28 record, with 40 touchdown passes against 30 picks, and 2,220 rushing yards for 130 1st downs & 14 touchdowns. I think you can

probably win with him, especiallty if you give him a few supporting offensive weapons and even an average defense, and Matt Eberflus can produce that.

I thought the NFL would get rid of it after Robert Edwards sustained a career-altering injury in a meaningless game.

I remember when the losing teams of the championship game would coach the Pro Bowl squads in their respective conferences, and after the 2006 season it was Bill Belichick and he got divisional rival Buffalo's punter Brian Moorman absolutely blown up by the late Sean Taylor on a fake punt - I'll bet Bills coach Dick Jauron was probably steamed about that!

I’ve read nothing that says Frank lost the locker room in Indy.   I think that sentiment is the view of those who didn’t like Reich.

I liked Frank, both in San Diego & in Indy but his coaching gets stale real quickly - as the Chargers' OC, he was fired in early January of 2016 after the Bolts ranked 31st in rushing (despite drafting RB Ryan Mathews in the 1st round) and the entire offense was listless. He was hired as Philly's OC later in the month.

    5 hours ago, NewColtsFan said:

I think firing Frank when they did, and the outcome was easily predictable, was a bad look for the Colts franchise.

Made to look all the better with the improvement of the team's performance under Shane, and the fact that Carolina also fired him mid-season, after he had taken over playcalling with negative effects. Frank the offensive playcaller keeps getting Frank the Head Coach fired, and I believe that had he turned over those duties last year, he at least lasts the season and if the new playcaller was effective enough to win a few more games, he possibly even starts this season as our Coach.

Ever since Sirianni slagged the Colts over the Frank Reich firing, I have disliked Sirianni.  Before that, I was not much of a fan, as I disliked the Frank Reich play calling and Sirianni was his OC, so my dislike of the offensive play calling extended to the OC, even though on game day he was not the one calling the plays.

Same here, the way he acted at the end of that game was childish. They had a much better team than we had and won by whopping 1 point lmao . He met his match, when he met Mahomes in the SB though Amazon Chiefs Kingdom GIF by NFL On Prime Video- he wasn't laughing after the SB.

Nick was curiously quiet after Carolina fired Reich this year, before he had even completed 1 season  with them.

We gave Frank 4 years and every opportunity, (albeit with a different starting QB in each) but the same thing got him fired in both places: his unimaginative playcalling, and he lost the locker room in both cities and it was evident with the effort & results shown on the field.

  12. In addition to the 13 games he started, Minshew finished a few of the first 4 games in relief of AR.

I think the only way the Colts don't resign him would be if another team showed interest in him as their starter but I doubt that will be the case. If he's going to be a backup, Indy is as good as anywhere else for him, probably better than most considering his familiarity with Shane & his system.

I doubt that Steichen gives a damn about the COTY award.

I would agree, but IMO he did a better coaching job than the other candidates based on the personnel each guy had at their disposal, mainly at quarterback. Besides  Shane, the only other coach that I could see winning as much with Minshew starting 13 games for them would be Kevin Stefanski of the Browns, who made the playoffs using 4 different starting QBs and he should be named COTY based on that alone.

Honestly winning the division is cool but it doesn’t really mean much. The more I sit with this loss I’m happier it was now and not next week. Texans aren’t likely to make it too far and we’ll be ten picks ahead plus they don’t have a first rounder. Onto 24’

I'd rather have won last night and made the playoffs, knowing that we would've won the division and hosted a game is more salt on the wound of missed opportunity.

He GETS a pass for this PAST year

but not after NEXT year IMHO. If we miss playoffs

We'll see, due to the fact that his QB1 will still be learning on the job, especially if Minshew moves on to another team - he does need to add another offensive weapon in the form of another WR or a reliable TE to help AR succeed.

I truly hope that Ballard makes some aggressive FA move(s) this offseason WHILE we have QB and LT on rookie contracts

If we aren’t in playoffs next year….. I think you HAVE to make a change at GM

I think Ballard will get a pass due to the fact that his QB1 missed the majority of this season, and his QB2 & rookie HC led us to the cusp of a postseason berth.

That was the case last week, he was wide open twice early and Minshew went to him the second time, resulting in a touchdown.

    I'm saying he's gone if,

    • AR doesn't pan out.
    • There isn't a decent roster around AR at that point (2025).

This season's roster was good enough for a postseason berth, perhaps even a divisional title depending on the results of the Jaguars game later today.

Go back and watch the Colts pre-manning, especially the 1991 Colts or the 2011 Colts to see the worst season in Colts history.  As for handing Pinter the starting RG spot it was the same move most fans called for based on his performance filling in for Kelly the year before.  Heck even before the season some fans were calling for letting Kelly go and playing Pinter at center.

There is also a big difference between 2021 and this years team.  2021’s team was supposed to be a playoff team that got blown out vs the worst team in the league that year in the last game.  This team was thought by many to win three to five games before they lost their new franchise QB for the year and got beat in a one score game vs a playoff team to keep them out.  That’s not a collapse that’s a major overachievement.

I sorta agree, but this year we should've been the playoff team - we were playing at home in primetime with the more experienced QB against a team with a rookie QB who had yet to play outside of the 1 pm EST window and missing his top TE & pass rusher, yet we failed to lead at any point (we almost led by 3 but hit the upright from 57 yards out) and it was the culmination of an entire season of missed opportunities.

I prefer to look at it like this.  Ballard went from 9 wins and a collapse in 2021 to 9 wins and a collapse in 2023.  It was a repeat performance.  In between, based on nothing, he handed Danny Pinter and Matt Pryor the starting LG and LT spots, leading to possibly the worst Colts season in Indianapolis.

If you're going to give Ballard credit for going from 4 wins to 9, you have to dock him for going from 9 to 4 in the first place.

I kinda agree, we had 3 "win & in" games in those 2 combined seasons, and failed in both of them. I fault personnel in 2021, and coaching  in 2023.

We were a play from making the playoffs with Gardner Minshew. What more do people want? If AR plays, we dominate that game. Gus Bradley does need to go though.

AR was bound to go through rookie growing pains, there is no guarantee that we'd be in the "win & in" position had he played all season but I agree, Bradley needs to go - he makes average QBs look good, and good ones look elite.

So Tomlin did his job? Nico Collins was the texans only real threat yesterday and we didn't scheme to take him out of the game? A high school coordinator could have done that, why couldn't a guy with 20 years of nfl experience do that? Where were the blitzes??? I can recall 3 blitzes, the results of those 3 plays were 2 incomplete passes and a sack. We did the same thing yesterday that we have done for the past 51 years, came up short in a crucial game. We sat back and let the texans bring the game to us. At least we were better than 2 years ago when we slept through that disgraceful 26-11 loss in Jacksonville. That was an important loss for us though because it put the no talent steelers in the playoffs who then got beat by the chiefs 42-21 in a game the chiefs called off the dogs early. Honest question here, what do you guys expect? In the past 51 years we've had 3 generational qb's(Jones, Manning, and Luck) and have won 1 superbowel. We came up short numerous times with those guys at qb. What Ballard has done with below average qb's has been remarkable. If Richardson is as good as he looked before he got hurt this division will be us vs. Houston for the next 10-12 years, but we will have to do away with the triple vanilla, super soft zone defenses if we are going to win it all. Are we not allowed to play defense? How can the ravens play good defense EVERY year, regardless of how bad their offense is and we can play good defense 1 out of 10 years?? But then again, if every team played solid defense(which is easy to do) all the games would be 13-10 and no one would watch.

This is why Bradley should go

Did any of you watch the steelers yesterday???????????? I will take Ballard and this loaded roster over that pathetic, zero talent steeler roster any day of the week. The steelers have no speed or athletic ability on defense. Their offensive line is worse than ours from last year when we weren't trying with Saturday at coach. I believe they have the same number of playoff wins in the past 7 years as we do. I will repeat what a friend of mine said after the 10th game when I told him I wish the the Colts could be that bad  and be 7-3. His reply, "we are not a 7-3 team, we are a 2-15 team". How does a team set nfl records for futility throughout the season as the steelers have this year and still be on the cusp of making the playoffs??????? I've seen a lot of bad Colt football over the years but nothing like the garbage the steelers have displayed this year(or the past 8-10 years for that matter).

Yet the Steelers are still alive for the postseason (they'll probably be eliminated today) and they do have that impressive streak of 20 consecutive non-losing seasons.

I appreciate you trying to explain but I still don’t think it’s that serious. I guess it’s just how you want to look at things. I called us missing the playoffs back when we lost the Bengals game. I knew the remaining schedule would be too tough to stack enough wins bc this team was not good enough. I overall enjoyed this season and was entertained. I don’t think the Colts regressed this year but instead took two steps forward. Still, changes need made but I don’t think firing Ballard should be one of them. Ballard and Steichen need to sit down and make some serious decisions about the coaching staff and roster. It’s time the team goes after game changers for this roster and surrounds AR with a better team to go for it all.

I agree, and moving on from Gus should be one the considerations, especially if an experienced & aggressive DC can be acquired to replace him - we gave up far too many soul crushing 3rd & 4th and longs this year, and failed to get consistent pressure on any of the QBs we faced.
