It would be nice if we got even a generic update on Jim. Hopefully he is improving.

Owners meet, I believe, is scheduled as follows for new league year:

March 24-27 Annual League Meeting, Orlando, FL

May 20-22 Spring League Meeting/Coach Accelerator, Nashville, TN

We may get to know if Irsay attends these.

His monotonous low key unenthusiastic monotone voice will put me to sleep.  I can’t see him being entertaining at all.  Maybe we’ll get to find out.  Sean Payton was entertaining.  I have my doubts with Bellichick.

Have you not seen Belichick on TV as chief guest? He was smiling, laughing, truly jovial and enjoying the moment, and was even sharing some interesting tidbits on their Patriots, and Tom Brady was also in that panel discussion.

His demeanor as a coach is totally different thing, and people don't stay like that outside work environment always.

Cowboys, especially Prescott-Lamb, did very well after he left.

Moore must have had the best transition from undrafted player in '12 to finishing NFL career as player in '17 to becoming OC for three different teams with 5 years of coordinator experience by the end of '24.

Wilson does have a better win versus loss record than Fields.

Yeah, the context is that Jets defense is one of the best in the league, and that's getting wasted. Jets should've tried other backup QBs, even Flacco, just how many other teams showed when they were hit with the same setback. Maybe, Rodgers stays healthy next season.

One could argue that Zach Wilson has performed on par with Fields. Wilson has been just about tarred and feathered in New York already.

Fields isn't a good passer, but has had better passing games than Wilson, Wilson surely doesn't have it and he doesn't run like Fields to make any franchise interested. Once Fields got DJ Moore, he'd some good intervals in games while Garrett Wilson has regressed with Zack.

Anyway, Fields is going to be just the bridge QB at this point for some franchise, until they find the real guy. Wilson will be lucky to have a spot on any roster, and he probably wouldn't deserve it even if he gets, as Jets found out in the past 2 years after multiple tries.

I had never heard of Kobie Turner and he is a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year. I may select him.

The Rams did well in the draft with two of their rookies being named finalists for Rookie of the Year awards. (Texans and Lions too.)

Not only two, Rams selected OLB Byron Young in the same round as Turner, who got 42 solo tackles, more total tackles and one fewer sack than Turner, while having 2 forced fumbles as well. Not sure if he got recognized.

Fun Fact - Kobie Turner went undrafted in 2023 Gavin's Mock Draft. People were upset over having to continue mock draft beyond 5th round, and that's where he was ranked in the Big Board. Goes to show Gems and immediate contributors can be found in any round. It mainly speaks to the prowess of DC Raheem Morris, will be interesting how Rams continue their defensive performance without him.

Falcons got a very good talent evaluator and coach in Morris.

  7. Championship Round picks:

    Lions  24  @  49ers  34  (7-10)

With Jonah Jackson out, Goff will need to do exceptionally well. I guess Lions fans know the dreaded feeling when the game keeps going away from them. I guess lot of fans overall, not only from Detroit, will shed few tears.

    Chiefs  20  @  Ravens  24  (4-6)

It'll be an awesome performance from Mahomes & co to defeat this Ravens. Thinking only Packers end up scoring more than 24 on the Chiefs @chad72

I’m conflicted on Young. He’s had more pressures this season (66) than any of our guys (DeFo 52, Ebukam 48) and he’d definitely be an upgrade if we got him - if he can keep it up.

But is he elite? I think he’ll like be asking for more than he’s really worth. But if we could sign him to a 1-2 year deal for $12m-ish per year I’d think it be worth the shot.

At least you can see that injuries have stalled his progress, and unlike Leonard, Young has been producing pressure at a good rate (even if sack production isn't elite), so he isn't going towards being a FA Bust. He's the kind of upside, unravelled potential you look to hit in FA, which if he had already attained his full potential, he wouldn't be a FA or would be a very costly FA. That's the kind of potential you pay for in free agency, and hope to get it work rather than who has been trending towards the back end of his career.

I think 49ers will try to keep him if they manage cap in QB's rookie deal, with reworking Trent Williams contract. But, if he hits FA, teams should not be afraid to get him.

I know I wanted it, so I could go 0-6 and get fired on a 3 year 21-million-dollar deal. Retire for life after coaching 6 games and getting fired, and kick back drinking Crown Royals pulp fiction drinking GIF.

You should've applied for the job.

If you're good at throwing beer at a Jaguars fan, you're hired, I heard!

Job applications seldom come with easier expectations.

  10. These days, concussion protocol takes sometimes more than a week to clear the player to play. That, along with any extra niggles that happen even to pocket passers, you just gotta be prepared for the QB to miss a lower number of weeks, say 4. Very smart QBs tend to get lucky too, so Richardson needs to be smarter with those chance runs.

I guess the pick looks good now but Rodgers could have benefitted from a first round WR at the time. It’s very interesting to examine that pick.

Rule # 1: when you really love a QB, you draft him, especially in the pick range where you could get him. Even if you have current franchise QB, especially at the back end of his career.

As a Vikings fan, I'd have liked Packers to be without a QB for few years like every other team, but wow... When it comes to QBs, they seem to always have seamless transition from one franchise QB to their next. They seem to have eyes for those traits, it's incredible.

After season ending injury in 2017, Rodgers took time to get back to Elite form so they must have started looking for the right time to draft a QB to sit behind him. It's not like they wasted first round picks for many years when Rodgers was with him, trying to find a young QB. They just spent in one year of their drafts, and that was it. It's not really a wastage of picks if you see it that way, especially when it comes to QBs. As for weapons, they focused on protection for Rodgers well and defense, they probably didn't get lucky in draft with weapons as they've been able to get for Jordan Love in last couple of years.

Davis has been near a bust from a consistency standpoint. He's basically an underwhelming 2. We already have enough of those guys..Ha!!

It's bad take to call him a bust. This year, he had more than 60% of receiving yards (~750 from 45 catches at 16.6 yards per catch) in much less than half of Diggs' receiving yards (~1150 from 107 catches).

He's not going to be consistent, as he's more of a big play threat but getting 700 yards in mostly big plays is what you'd expect from a vertical threat. Being consistent just is not his cup of tea. Teams that need his production even at that inconsistent rate will surely get him (which is quite appreciated), and he'll serve his purpose.

Im not trying to be argumentative, but the key sentence says Ed Dodds really likes him.  But it does not say Ed Dodds PREFERS him.   Not trying to be cute or clever.   I’m happy to concede the point, that Ed Dodds likes him.   I just stop short of stating that Dodds prefers Stroud.   Words matter and I think some are reading too much into the comment.

I remember vividly the context in Albert Breer piece because it was released a couple of days prior the NFL Draft when he gives a final, complete information on every team and their learning towards the position or specific player that may draft in first round.

He or someone else during that week said Colts have kept things to their chest, and Breer said other teams have mentioned that Colts seem to be high on Levis. Colts could've led other teams to believe so, or they did have Levis as next option.

Breer did mention that Ballard likes Richardson, but we don't know if he assumed because he calls Ballard "traits happy". One information that they could get from sources was that Dodds liked Stroud, but that could be from earlier time of the off-season.

  14. 35 minutes ago, GoColts8818 said:

That just says Dodds really liked Stroud.  You are making a bit of jump to just take that and say that means he wanted him above everyone else.  That article also says Ballard was all over Levis yet he still ultimately selected Richardson.

Question of getting that Proof was whether Dodds liked Stroud in earlier conversations. Whether he liked Stroud more or not can only be known to him, but it's said he liked Stroud.  He thought Stroud was sure prospect to take him, but he's not the GM. And, when he didn't really think high of Richardson, he liked Stroud.

Dodds initially didn't think high of Richardson until he got to see his poise as Ballard pointed to him but he also says, without anyone having to point out, Richardson has got Blue traits but there's no resume.

I don't know why the discussion is so much around what exactly Dodds wanted other than he liked Stroud and he had to come around on Richardson, for which @Solid84 has given necessary quotes.

I think he’s was trying to imply the talent underperformed due to the recently fired head coach.   Thats my hunch….

Rapoport isn't gonna hurt anybody, he needs every team to be in good rapport with him :)

In a way, they seem to assemble lot of free agents that look promising, but not really explosive anymore in their career as they used to be.

In last two years, he acquired Linval Joseph, and Eric Kendricks after Vikings let them go, and they ended up being rotational pieces. Khalil Mack had been just okay and lots of such vets in CB and S, that didn't make a large difference.

He did draft very good players too, and had had lot of injuries on the roster. Raiders also like to collect lot of free agents every off-season. So, Raiders are betting on him being able to collect promising talent in both draft and FA, and they have better luck with him.

Also, A lot of the time players flop is because of what team drafted them. I believe that a lot of it comes from the situation that player is in to make them successful. All these players are busts could have had a whole different career if they were drafted by a different team. Not all players of course, but a lot of them yes.

That seems plausible. I'd say that if 50% of "can't miss" prospects become bust, at least 20% of them could be doing much better in a perfect fit, but it's hard to get that right combination for the player as teams jump on elite talent in draft and expect them to overcome all the obstacles rather than helping them reach higher levels. You definitely need to fall into right coach, team and system that makes the best use of your talent, even if you were elite in college.

Those top 4 teams are also like the only teams who have stud TEs. Most NFL offenses don’t run through the TE or feature them. Elite TE’s are rare to find. Kelce, Kittle, Andrews, Hockenson, and Engram are the top 5 guys In the league, with LaPorta having a shot to jump into that tier. You can probably name 10-12 elite receivers but only 5-6 elite TEs.

I just am always on the side of caution with drafting TEs high in the 1st round because there have been some guys who were supposed to be generational talents or elite players at that position that didn’t pan out or underperformed.

    1. Eric Ebron,

    2. TJ Hockenson (not on original team that drafted him)

    3. Kyle Pitts (You can blame QB play but still)

    4. Noah Fant

    5. OJ Howard

    6. Hayden Hurst

    7. Tyler Eifert

    8. Heath Miller

    9. Brandon Pettigrew

    10. David Njoku

The top 3 guys in the league were all drafted in rounds 3 or later.

Njoku is getting there with better QB play, he's shown what he could do this year. Browns just didn't get good QBs until Watson in few games and Flacco helped Njoku.

Yeah, if Bowers is sure hit prospect at TE, you could move up to get him if it's within few picks range but only draft day will tell.
