What will even be the point of bringing him back for a game or two If we are out of the playoffs. This team is so snake bitten at WR. His broken bone  must of been really bad.

I am so sick of our WR being injured. I just want some playmakers. We have zero right know outside of TY.

There is no scenario in which we are eliminated from playoff contention this week.

Difference is Tom goes through progressions first. If everyone is covered then his check down guy likely has tons of room to run. Jacoby doesn’t go through his progressions and will check it down to someone who is covered. Tom (maybe not this year) would rip apart any zone defense he faced. Jacoby just looked lost against a zone.

Well Jacoby did go through his progressions, but clearly no one was open. He had all day to throw back there but no one was open

Heard that after the Steelers game and then well.....

...and then it got over? That's assuming the conclusion, that the season is over which is what the post was about anyways

I saw that, but I didn't hear any "venom about the racist NFL". I mean, if one is going to accuse him with strong words like "spewing venom about the racist NFL", I hope there's at least something to back that up.

You could see the look in his eyes of hatred from the workout. He was spewing venom about the racist NFL etcetera etcetera.

I don't bemoan the guy's right to lash out at what he perceives to be racism. But at some point he's just completely negative and no one wants to be anywhere near him. I know I wouldn't

Please share the video of him doing that. I have not seen that

I agree, but is it reasonable to give such short notice that you're not attending?

Is it reasonable that they sprang this out of nowhere, booked a workout with 5 days notice and refused to change the time? Like, I understand that Kaepernick probably should've given more notice, but that's a little minor compared to the dumpster fire of an organization of a workout this has been.

And I kinda get why Kaepernick did it too. He was already fearful that the whole thing was just a rigged stunt to get the NFL out of trouble in Kaepernick's lawsuit. By demanding that Kaepernick sign a wonkish, non-standard liability waiver, by not allowing Kaepernick to film his own workout, by the weird organization of the workout (including getting Hue Jackson to conduct the workout), and by not scheduling the workout on a Tuesday (when most free agent workouts are conducted) and scheduling it on a Saturday (when most GMs and scouts are out scouting college football) and refusing to schedule it on a different date, I'd say they didn't do themselves any favors

Fractured hand is probably 4-6 weeks best case scenario, and this one just seems to be severe.

Gordon Hayward fractured his on Saturday last weekend. They were unsure what the injury was until Monday, and he was projected to miss 4-6 with what was termed as a light fracture.

Everything points to this one being pretty significant.

Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am this time.

Hand injuries are probably a little worse for basketball players than RBs, I'm guessing. Other than carrying the ball, Mack doesn't really need his hands very much, he just needs a functional hand that can apply blunt force to squeeze a ball. In basketball, the hands are used with much more nuance in shooting and handling the ball. You need better motor skills and more responsive hands to do those things well.

Tua suffers severe injury, emergency surgery tonight or tomorrow-

Maybe not 'exactly' same as Bo's, but if Tua needs hip replacement, that might end his career before it begins. :(

Very sad. I don't think it should be as bad as Bo's, but regardless it's not something good to hear. He was looking good, I hope he regains his form when (if? ) he plays in the NFL.

As an aside, since a deep FS isn't covering anybody, he's not really the one being targeted.  Its the CB generally, if not simply a great WR.  QBs might not be throwing it deep because the CBs are stride for stride with the WR, or playing off coverage and allowing the short and middle throws.  Saying Hooker isn't being targeted has a different meaning , IMO.

I'm not being critical of Hooker.  He's part of a secondary that's probably ascending in terms of making plays.  All I'm saying is that Freeney was the 11th pick, and had basically nobody playing around him, yet he made his impact.  Mathis was there, but nobody else.  And Mathis lead the NFL in sacks during Grigson years, so I assume you would be saying its because RG built a great defensive roster around Mathis. And as safeties go, Sanders elevated the whole secondary, if not the whole defense at SS.

I'm not excusing the lack of playmaking because of who plays around him.  It matters yes, but if it matters a lot, then maybe it simply means that other positions are more important than FS.

Whenever I talk to you about Hooker, you always make it sound like he just sits in the end zone waiting to save a touchdown. That's not how it works. And no, safeties can be targeted. If you throw it to a safety, you're targeting him. Yes I understand your point about how it's easier to be a lockdown safety than a lockdown corner, because safeties and corners aren't very equivalent, and what that means is that "coverage stats" like yards given up and stuff will probably be automatically higher for the average corner than the average safety, but your conclusion that a safety isn't or can't be targeted is simply not warranted by the supporting statements.

Well of course they may not be throwing it deep because we're allowing short and middle throws, but more likely they may not be throwing it deep because of Hooker. A 4 yard check down isn't normally the first option unless the QB is Tom Brady. If a good safety shuts down the deep pass, then the QB will be forced to check it down. Yes, our zone coverage allows for more short throws, but short throws aren't usually the first option. The deep throws being shut down when Hooker is on the field, versus the offense throwing deep when he's off the field indicates that he does make an impact on a QB's decision to go deep.

Hooker doesn't elevate our secondary? Just check whenever he gets injured, they throw all over us, with the exception of the Chiefs game. He allows us to devote less resources to defending the deep and intermediate pass, so we can blitz and play up more

Like LCF said, that's the way football works. Most positions are dependent on others. That doesn't make the position less valuable. Andrew Luck couldn't do jack when he had a crap O-line. That doesn't make the QB position less valuable just because you need a good O-line to succeed.

Its like saying that Nelson is elevated by Luck and JB, Kelly, and AC.   And when he has a below average QB, his play looks like its from a fairly average G.

Is the thinking that the position they play isn't really impactful, and there need to be quality players at impactful positions in order for a FS and a G to look elite?  It sounds like that's what's being said about Hooker, Nelson, and Reed for that matter.

I don't think they call players all-pros or not because of who plays next to them.

But he already does look elite, that's my point. It's not that he needs other players to look elite, it's that safeties who have other players like how Minkah Fitzpatrick has the Steelers front 7 look better than safeties who don't have other players. In very simple terms, quality players in other positions elevate the play of the safety. Therefore, Minkah Fitzpatrick is getting more visible results than Hooker in part because he has a lot more help, and not necessarily because he's much better than Hooker

I agree...but I don't necessarily agree that both trenches have been built. Right now, the DL is led by vets that will be 30+ next year. I don't even know if there is anything beyond rotational guys currently on the roster long-term.

I think DL will be the first pick...then WR on Day Two.

Well that's why I said sufficiently. You can always build them more, get more rotation, replace aging players etc., but right now it's pretty well built other than the fact that we're one Autry injury away from having a serious DT problem. We need help there, but it's not like the lines aren't built at all like when he first got here. I think it's well built enough to where if a WR that he really likes falls down, I don't think we're forced to use another pick on the lines.

    Well, IMO it's 2 things:

    1. It's possible that they did not impress, thus they didn't sign any of the try-out kickers.

    2. It's possible that they did impress, just not enough to get rid of AV, who is a leader in the locker room and perhaps the greatest clutch kicker of all-time, (just not now). The try-out kickers would've had to be incredible to move on from AV. They could have been good, real good, but not incredible.

Think of it like this (disclaimer: completely joking here by the way): AV was your hot girlfriend for many years. She had it all, looks and a great personality. Recently, she's really let herself go, but overall, as a person, she's wonderful. You still like her very much, but these other girls are showing you a lot of interest and you're beginning to think, "what would it take for me to move on from her?" In all likelihood, they would have to really "wow" you to move on. They could all be great and wonderful, but if they're not amazing, chances are you are staying with the girlfriend that you know and love.

Either ways they didn't impress enough to move on. They didn't "wow" us

    (Also, that analogy tho haha)

I'm not interested in talking about Hooker specifically.  Y'all can do that.

But the idea that a player drafted in the first round NEEDS other high talent around him in order to justify the pick is just nonsense.  The first round pick is supposed to make the other players look better than they are.

It's like saying an Oline consisting of pick 6, 18, 22, and 37, needs a franchise QB in place in order to make it look good and play well.  The talented oline is supposed to make the QB and RB look better than they are.

Obviously, more talent at other positions always makes any one player play their best, but the first rounders are suppose to elevate the play of the others, not the other way around.

No one says he needs it. He's already getting results. The only point made is that Minkah Fitzpatrick is elevated by other high talent around him, and Malik Hooker is not
