Interesting tidbit about the Bills trading up for J. Allen in 2018.

They moved up from 12th to 7th by swapping 1st Rd picks and gave up two 2nd Rd selections (53 and 56).

So, the Colts may have a lot of options come draft day.

For sure, we will probably have the 34th or 35th pick in the draft to work with, or if they don't wanna use that then they can trade their pick in the early 40s. If we end up picking around 10th, we should be able to easily get to 5th or 6th, and if Tua is there I think you have to take him. He's a Russell Wilson type guy imo. Thing is, at that point in the draft you may have a shot at a franchise LT or truly elite gamechanger on defense. I honestly wouldn't even be mad if they took Jerry Jeudy, he's gonna be a Michael Thomas type player, he's gonna destroy the NFL Combine, wouldn't be surprised if he sets records in the shuttle drills.

they will probably adjust some, but he is actually getting good at reading defenses too

if he keeps making good reads he will probably keep winning.  a major problem for defenses is that no front 7 defender in the league can catch him.  if they devote too much to stopping him then someone will be open

Yeah, he's generally always the fastest guy on the field, and he's insanely shifty, it's hard to defend. Not impossible, but very difficult even with a sound defensive gameplan. The thing is, you either have to sell out on the run, but he's able to make most throws now, so it's a tough task. Mike Vick never really got "solved" and I think Lamar is an upgraded version of that.

For me, watching Hurts play, I see a guy that cant process the NFL game

The love for running QBs seems to happen every year.

    They dont seem to survive........

Cam Newton was UNSTOPPABLE....... Until he started to get nicked up

You are seeing the latest wonderkid in Mahommes.......  He is getting BEAT UP

Lamar is UNSTOPPABLE........  but mark it down.... he will get nicked

The pocket passers, that dont try to be running backs seem to last....

Thats what this old dude wants........

Give me a QB that COULD run if needed.  But ya gotta be able to throw the ball FIRST

Hurts has a 200 passer rating and 32/7 TD/INT ratio, I'd say he's okay at throwing the ball.

I'm having a hard time getting next to either Hurts or Love.  I know, CB himself went to scout Love's games.  But I'm not totally convinced on either of them.  Prepping for this upcoming draft is maddening.  I know we need to draft a QB.  I know we won't be able to get either of the top two guys.  I'm not sure any of the rest are worth the #15 pick.  And I'm not sure I believe in any of the guys who might be available in the 2nd round.  Argh!

Question is will we be picking at 15 when it's all said and done? There's a very real possibility we will be picking in the 9-12 range, with possibility to be in the 7-8 range. Sucks to say, but if we lose out we should be picking higher than 15th.

  5. Jacoby Brissett--High end: Curtis Painter

                                  Low end: Jim Sorgi

    Joe Burrow--High end: Tony Romo

                            Low end: Matt Leinert

    Tua Tagavailoa--High end: Steve Young

                                   Low end: Tim Tebow

    Justin Herbert--High end: John Elway

                              --Low end: Blaine Gabbert

    Jalen Hurts--High end: Lamar Jackson

                           Low end: Dak Prescott

    T Lawrence--High end: Peyton Manning

                             Low end: Matt Ryan

    Justin Fields--High end: Russell Wilson

                              Low end: Warren Moon

Huh? The top 15 QB's statistically are all primarily pocket passing QB's. Mahomes, Watson, Wilson, Rodgers, Prescott, Wentz, while being mobile in the pocket, are not running QB's. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are really the only 2 QB's used in actual running situations continuously.

Sorry, but there are no Lamar Jackson's in this draft and Hurts isn't the answer either. A) I don't want to see an offense rebuilt into something that isn't sustainable. Eventually LJ will have to sit his * in the pocket. B) Every time I see Hurts' name pop up I wonder if people have actually watched him. There is a reason he couldn't cut it at Bama, and got beat out by an actual passing QB. I don't think there are going to be many teams who are going to rebuild their offense for a guy who can't read a defense, nor progress beyond his first/second read before he's wanting to just take off running. Hurts wouldn't even be on my board just due to him not being a good passing QB.

It's funny because people said the same thing about Lamar coming out, which is why he barely went in the 1st and was a projected Day 2 guy. You never really know. Hurts has improved every year in college, and imo his floor is a Dak Prescott type player, with a poor man's Lamar Jackson being his ceiling. He is having a Heisman type year and really only has one legit NFL guy to throw to. It will really come down to who drafts him, and how willing they are to tailor personnel and scheme to his benefit.

What's interesting is how similar Lamar's last year at Louisville was to what Hurts is putting up this year:

    Lamar: 59.1% Completion, 3660 yards passing, 27/10 TD/INT, 146.6 rating, 1601 rushing yards, 18 TD's

    Hurts: 71.8 % Completion, 3634 yards passing, 32/7 TD/INT, 200.3 rating, 1255 rushing yards, 18 TD's

Hurts had a better year passing with 12% higher completions, a little better TD/INT ratio, and about 60 points better passer rating, but Lamar ran for about 350 more yards. That was my thinking as well, Lamar a slightly better runner and Hurts a slightly better thrower of the football.

  7. I'm with whoever said to draft 2 quality WR's. This class has the depth, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go WR twice in the first 5 or so picks, with one being either the 1st or Skins pick.

I'm really really liking Devonta Smith from Bama, he was a really highly ranked recruit coming in, higher than Jeudy if I'm not mistaken, but has up til this year been overshadowed by high-end talent everywhere, guys like Jeudy, Ruggs, Waddle, etc. I wouldn't be upset to see them grab him with the Skins pick, or even better with the latter 2nd, tho I'm not sure he will last that long, I feel like there will be several large runs on WR in this draft being that it's so stacked.

I think if you have the chance to draft a high end guy like Derrick Brown (DL), Andrew Thomas (OT), Javon Kinlaw (DL, or AJ Epenesa (DE) with our 1st you almost have to do that, those are Pro Bowl guys that make the team better, not random chance at the QB position. If a WR like Jeudy or Lamb fell then I'd be okay with that too, I feel like those guys are legit superstars at the next level.

I have a feeling the order of our picks will be something like this: (1) QB (2.1) WR (2.2) DT/OL 3) WR/DT/OL. I'd be really surprised if we didn't come away with a QB, at least 1 WR, a DLineman, and a OL with our picks on Days 1/2, unless a guy falls that is can't-miss value

  8. Seems like they all essentially say the same things, he looks the part and can make all of the throws, inside and outside the pocket, but lacks the ability to diagnose coverages. It seems like coordinators are able to disguise coverages, or audible without Love being able to recognize what's going on.

I look at it like: You can't teach that kind of size, accuracy, willingness to make the throw (see: Brissett, Jacoby), but you can teach him to read/diagnose coverages, and when to make the throw and when to check it down or throw it away. Mahomes was NOT polished coming out, but after a year on the sidelines he refined his craft.

Only thing that scares me off is an inflated draft cost, I really don't wanna have to use more than 1 pick to get him.

  9. Will they be able to pull the trigger on a guy like Love over Isaiah Simmons or Derrick Brown? Those guys look like game changers on the defensive side. I'd be content either way, but they have to take a WR in the 2nd, gotta have more weapons. I've seen mocks with them taking Swift in the 1st, and idk about that. The dude's a beast, a do it all back, but it's hard to justify when we have needs at QB, DT, and OL among others.

Love the enthusiasm but why would Joe Brady leave LSU to come to Indy.

More accurate- Love+ Reich+ House= Best Learning situation possible.

Accuracy isn't really his problem, in fact he's pretty accurate, especially deep. It's the decision making that needs work, and his footwork needs to be fine-tuned.

As far as that highlight vid, there's several on YouTube showing him making great NFL level throws. I think his Soph film is a better indicator of what you're getting at the NFL level, he had better coaching and better talent around him and he had an amazing year; the talent would only be better in Indy. This is the perfect landing spot for a young QB. All we need is to add a dynamic WR, and maybe a playmaking TE and the line will give him time to develop and utilize all of the weapons.

  11. That's an amazing mock. The longer I watch him, the more I like Devonta Smith, he may be the best WR on Bama's team and that's saying quite a bit. Dude would be a great addition, and he catches everything, like a Mike Thomas type player.

If Ballard and Co think Love is the guy in the 1st then so be it, I'm on board, but if he tanks it's gonna be hard to recover. We would lose years waiting and then potentially have to invest another 1st somewhere down the line.

A DT like Brown, Wilson, Coe is a must in the first couple/three rounds, they need that badly and there's some dogs in this draft. Personally Kinlaw is a machine, and I'd have no problem with them taking him in the 1st and hoping for Love or whoever with the Skins pick. WR will be there with the latter 2nd.

What would it talk to get Burrows? If you are cincy would 3 firsts and the second get it done?

Way more than a team should logically spend.

I'm not sure if there are enough picks to get them to budge. Burrow has had one of the best passing years for a QB i have ever seen and will be the heisman winner. They need a QB more than anything else. Barring something freaky no way Burrow doesn't end up a Bengal.

Yes. He set the SEC Single Season Passing TD record, and has like 4400 yards.

  13. I hope to god they dont spend anything to get broke down Cam Newton, that's a horrible move imo. I'm sure he's better than Brissett, but a lot of dudes are. I say either draft a guy or look for a better QB in FA. I really like Jalen Hurts with the way the league is moving towards mobile quarterbacks that can still throw, and he will be available with probably either of our 2nds, leaving us our 1st to improve another position. Something like 1-DT/OL 2a-Hurts 2b-WR 3-BPA of need

Peyton and Andrew have always covered our teams weaknesses. When we don’t have either of them, we are either mediocre or lottery bound . Ballard and Reich are trying to build our entire team but we aren’t quite there yet.

Well yeah, you take Lamar Jackson, Mahomes, Russ Wilson off their teams and put a backup level guy in their place, and most teams end up falling flat on their faces.

I honestly think with how many guys have gone down, how young the team has been due to almost an entire rebuild on the defensive side of the ball, Luck retiring, it's a lot to overcome. The fact that we are in as good a position as we are is honestly a testament to Ballard/Reich, it blows my mind a lot of people are turning on them now. I guess that's what happens at this point in the game though, especially with a fanbase that's had a Top 5 Quarterback for the last 20 years.

I think they will have us ready to rock next year for sure, we have great draft capital and cap room, we will look entirely different next year. I'd be blown away if Jacoby Brissett was our starting quarterback by midseason next year, and he definitely won't be going into 2021. Just weather a little bit of a storm guys, but we have a great coach, and imo one of the best GMs in the league, so we'll be fine. What do you really expect when a guy like Luck steps down like that? It has such a monumental impact, it's not like a linebacker or even a RB or WR leaving, you're talking about the lead architect.
