  1. Glad to see Ballard acknowledge the secondary still needs work. I think this might of come from a sit down with colts podcast and not his presser but not sure.

In the defensive backfield, though, Ballard said there could be opportunities to do more through free agency in the coming weeks.

"We know we need to add and there's still some vets out there that we will definitely pay attention to," Ballard said. "But there's still work to be done."

The Colts like some of their young cornerbacks and safeties, and believe JuJu Brents, Jaylon Jones, Dallis Flowers, Nick Cross and Daniel Scott all have upside as they enter Year 2 or Year 3 in the NFL. Ballard specifically discussed those cornerbacks on Tuesday.

"No question we got work to do in the secondary still," Ballard said. "But I like our three young corners. JuJu's gotta be healthy, we gotta get Dallis back healthy, we think we will. We think JuJu will be back healthy. We think both of them are very good. I think we underestimate what Jones did. I thought Jones played really good football last year and did it against some very talented wideouts and never once backed down. He's going to continue to get better. We think these guys are going to continue to get better."

If we were to open today Cross and Thomas are our starters at safety.  That’s a recipe for disaster.  Neither one has proven they are full time NFL caliber starters.  The cornerbacks are a hope and a prayer right now as well.  Hopefully the 1st pick goes to the secondary where an immediate starter can be found found and is needed.

Plus there is no one behind them lol.

I took a break from the forum for a couple days. Went to the casino with my dad on back-to-back days. We had some fun playing blackjack. Ended up winning $182.50 profit between the two sessions. Seems like things are mostly the same here. Was hoping for a secondary signing lol.

May watch Ballard and Steichen comment on the owners meetings, it's just another thing where I'd yell at them through the computer screen lol. Don't know who I'm more mad at, Ballard, or the media for enabling him by asking softball questions and feeding his ego.

Ballard is having his presser right now.

    Bingo.

I could see Quinyon Mitchell being an option, given his vertical and speed, and especially his film. He's a great fit for our scheme.

But I think the Colts value strategy is pretty obvious. I think a corner prospect would have to check all of Ballard's boxes, and be a standout on film, to get drafted by the Colts at #15. And even then, we'd probably have to see that guy as the clear best prospect on the board, and that's not likely this year. There are too many good OL/DL prospects that will get pushed down 3-4 spots because of how top heavy it looks at QB and WR.

By the way, I think the same logic applies at WR, which is why I've said I don't think we'll draft a WR at #15. But I think that's more likely than a corner.

There is no room for more dline. Ballard is paying bucks for that dline and we have too many players. right now.  No dline or oline  right now is going to improve this roster right now. This would be a terrible pick and Ballard should be canned on the spot. We are good on both lines right now. Seriously should not be here if thst is the pick and he is a very unserious GM. No ssg would be went out and paid Grover and Davis yo draft for trenches. That is not a good use of money

    Probably a little less tbh.

    $18.9m(go with high estimate)

-$2.7m(draft picks top 51 cap hit)

    -$2.2m(practice squad)

-$1.8m(when roster goes back to top 53)

    $13.2m(probably save $7-$8m in season)

    $5.2m left

Now, that $6.9m I have bolded up there doesn't matter now though. Will just have to make a move by regular season.

As we know, Mo Alie-Cox almost covers that whole amount. $5.9m.

**Also though, something to remember, with every signing $985k drops off.

So any UDFA won't count against it

Rounds 4-7 don't count against it.

Any minimum player we sign will have minimum cap hit $70-$140k.

    Have (16) roster spots.

If we sign a FS for $5m, will only cost about $4m top 51.

***Also that $1.8m(back to top 53), might not even matter. Just depends how many players we keep below the top 51 we keep. We could actually end up in the positive side of money depending who we send packing.

At this point you’re not getting any kind of FS for that cheap. This has been Ballards worse off season to date. Probably another rookie corner and FS. We have no clue who is going to be our strong FS. It’s just all bad. Thomas should not be the starter at FS.

Saw something about us having some interest in Micah Hyde earlier. Not sure how reputable, but makes sense to have interest there

Would be decent pickup if he stays healthy, been battling injuries last couple years but graded out above 80 two years ago.

didn’t realize he was as old as he is. But he could come and help a young safety they draft.

Just read on pro football rumors that a couple of veteran FA CB were signed tonight.  I don’t recognize their names but they were FA.  Also saw a short podcast tonight from Chat Sports predicting four FA signing.  Interesting thing is they predicted Gilmore will resign with the Colts.  I wasn’t expecting that one so I thought I would share it.  Lots of podcasts and predictions out there.

Gilmore would be a nice short term addition to a young secondary. At this point in his career though I don’t see it. He is going to be very choosy to try and find a team who has chance at a SB.

  7. This is why I won’t  posting any thing that had any kind of info anymore. If you guys want to find you know where you can find it.  I get really tired of the arguments about info that is out there. It creates conversation. With out conversation this board would not be active.  So I don’t want anyone to ask me to post info anymore. I am done with that.

Holder didn't say 'the Colts are working on a trade to get rid of Jonathan Taylor.' He gave his opinion about what would happen with the situation. It's not comparable.

I think Destin's apology is fine, but what he did was malpractice. I bet real reporters could put out tweets referring to deals that appear to be in the works, but they know better. Ever wonder why Dianna Russini didn't send her tweet?

Wrong. He said Taylor did not want to be here. Taylor has since said that wasn’t the case. Malpractice lol. If that’s how you feel you take that stuff way too serious.  Beat reporters serve a different  purpose. Your never getting that from beat reporters.

How are you getting 8 when he said 18?  Rookies won't cost 10.  I know Ballard doesn't really do back loaded contracts,  but it's an option.   You are also assuming everyone that's currently signed will play here this year.   Or restructuring current contracts.   Some free agents will absolutely be brought in

Because I have seen they need ten for draft prospects and in season moves.

Different purpose. Different risks. He doesn’t say he’s wrong. He’s not sorry. Saying “I’m sorry what I heavily implied was happening…didn’t happen” is something toy would hear from a politician. Very carefully-worded.

But I’m done with this. No clue how you defend this. And next time Destin breaks some obvious re-signing or some asst. coaching hire, I will give him an attaboy. That’s more info than I will ever have. But I will also hold him accountable for using his platform to be an insider and gain clout, when he’s wrong.

Because maybe he wasn’t wrong. Maybe Titian’s  in at last minute. Even the athletic Dianna Russini said she was about to send out a tweet it was done

People need to understand that things happen. There is no reason to be so angry or mad. Even Stephen holder was wrong about Jonathan Taylor.  This kind of info should just be taken for what it is. Sometimes things fall through. It is what it is. Destin had been pretty accurate on a lot of stuff. Fans want to take every interested in a player tweet to mean it’s happening. Posts like yours is why a couple have stopped giving info. Fans like to take them the wrong way.

Pinter's contract came in at 1yr $1,222,500($500,000 guaranteed)

He only knocked about $237,500 off of the top 51 cap space.

Flacco still waiting to be updated($3.515m), as waiting in Taven Bryan update as well.

Sti have up at $18.3m to $18.9m, of Taven comes in around same number as Pinter. Can't imagine him getting anywhere near what he got last year.

So only about 8 million left to sign any FA? Looks like we are heading into the season with cross or Thomas at FS again. Maybe both as starters.

He said it was being finalized and heavily implied it was going to get done. He thought he had the scoop. If it had gotten done, he’d be doing victory laps. It didn’t. That’s the game. That’s why Schefter and Rappaport are who they are.

His mea culpa is weak. He deserves any criticism he gets. And he will move on from it. And hopefully he does learn and get better.

Final details means not signed and something can always happen.

    Was the deal done? No.

He tried to be first and either got played or got unlucky.

    Doesnt matter…but this “apology”

tweet sounds like a lawyer wrote it. I give him zero credit for admitting he was wrong. He’s spinning it like he was the victim…and the upset fans are victims of the same.

He never said it was done lol. I don’t know why people keep saying that.

  14. Looks like Ballard isn’t doing a presser until tomorrow maybe.

They can ask the hard questions and rightfully so, but if we’re expecting to some bombshell revelations we need to take a step back rethink things.

No but it could give some insight into things.

I really like Arnold. Like... really really like him... but I can't disagree with the people who say McKinstry fits better what Ballard usually likes... and he will likely be available later than Arnold too so... I can absolutely see Ballard trading down to about #25-30 and picking McKinstry.

Colts might be able to get him at 46 since he had that surgery.
