I get your point, I do. But, I'd rather SUCK for 2-3 years than stay mediocre for 8. I'm not saying one way is right and the other isn't, but this is how I feel about it.

They haven’t even reaped the awards of those extra picks yet either. That  will happen next couple of years as those players develop.

That's interesting, because that's not what I see. I see people who dislike Ballard's approach get shoved in here over the smallest disagreement over Ballard - that's by "apologists" and "neutral" poster by the way.

See, this is what we get thrown in our face if we dare disagree. Then we "go after" people... seriously...

I was all for letting Ballard have a reset finally getting a QB and a new coach. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. So in no way are we saying he is the worst. But he clearly isn’t helping a young team strive to be better.

  3. Every team finds a way to find money if there is a player they want or need. Ballard does not have a winning attitude. This is his worse offseason in his entire tenure. Then add every team in the division made moves they hope will improve their team. But go ahead and say I like our guys. Colts played ten backup QB last year. Being one game from the playoffs should not mean sitting on your butt. That isn’t going to happen this year with the quarterbacks.

Not to mention last year we had a rookie head coach and everyone added a year of experience in this system.

They also played ten backup quarterbacks.

Uh no. Not every team retains their players every season. That’s how free agency works. If every team could figure out a way to keep their important players there would be no free agency and draft.

There was no reason to pay a backup nose tackle. Or pay a guy like Flacco. Ballard used his resources in the wrong places.

Still waiting for you to put on your GM hat. What players that Ballard resigned ( Pittman, Moore, Blackmon, Grove) would you have let go and how would you replace them?

You realize you can do both. Every team finds a way to keep their important plays plus add a couple players to to improve the team it’s not one or the other. Why is it only colt fans use this excuse.

I wasn’t talking about the WRs at all, my point is the Colts don’t know about Richardson because they haven’t seen enough of him because he was hurt.  So they need to see more of him in general to know if he’s truly a franchise QB and not just a guy who had a good four game stretch because other teams didn’t have a lot of film to prepare for him.  They also just need to know he can stay healthy.

The Texans already know those things about Stroud so it makes sense to go all in to put guys around him for the remainder of his rookie deal.

The Colts don’t, this is part of that Richardson getting hurt would set the team back people were talking about last year when Richardson got hurt.

That isn’t a way to run a franchise. What will be the excuse next year.

I'm afraid you don't quite understand.

If he has weapons that can get open he will just throw to them.

If he has WRs that can't get open that will lead to more running which will greatly increase the probability of injury.

Once again it is the chicken or the egg argument

To be fair here the WR are going to end up more open with Taylor and AR in the back field. Thdy can’t stack the box with the running threat and AR arm. Thdy can add a good WR in the draft who can contribute right away. Hopefully it’s in the first because colts need more premium talent on this roster.  We can get a good WR at 46 but I don’t think we will be able to get the elite one we will be able to get at 15.

Except the biggest reason they don’t know about Richardson is they haven’t seen enough of him because he got hurt not because he didn’t have enough weapons.  The Colts need to see him do it longer and stay healthy before they go “all in”.

How many more evaluation years are we going to have to wait. We have had enough of let’s wait and see.

Maybe AR would be the guy if Ballard gave him weapons like Diggs or Calvin Ridley and Hopkins ?

Let's not forget that Hurts did not take off until he had AJ Brown and Davonta Smith.

To withhold weapons until AR PROVES he's the guy is a recipe for failure for our young QB

It is. But tell you the truth I am not worried about the offense. What I don’t want is him having to play Superman. That’s a recipe for injury again. If he feels colts can’t stop anyone the chances are he will take more risks.

did Ballard have the choice of hiring his own Head coach when he took this job? Did he really want Carson Wentz?

    just curious

Ballard had his choice yes. You forget he bailed. Irsay and Polian bailed him out helping them get Reich.

Its not as simple as Ballard just being gone. He will leave a mess behind that we will have to clean up (3 years) and we better hope he doesn't ruin AR's progression in the process and waste the prime of JT because that's where this is heading. Expecting the Colts to compete with teams that are more talented and not winning is going to hurt the head coach too. Get ready to hear another "we were young" excuse after next season. The excuses people make for Ballard after 8 years of mediocrity is amazing. I'm convinced Ballard could trade AR for a 6th round pick and people would be on here justifying it and how Ballard knows more than us. Remember, Ballard has proven nothing before getting this job, NOTHING!!!! People act like he had a track record like Polian so we should give him the benefit of the doubt. The Colts have pretty much become irrelevant in the NFL now and that's sad considering how hard it was for them to become relevant again through the Manning and Luck years.

This is true. Not to mention will the new GM WANT RICHARDSON or want to keep Steichen.

I think the Texans and the Colts are two teams that are in two different places.

The Texans won the division last season and are trying to make a splash in FA and compete with the big boys - KC, Buffalo, Bengals and Ravens. They are no longer content with just winning the division.

The Colts on the other hand are just trying to win the division taking a step forward from last season.

Maybe this is why Ballard is being conservative. Because coming in 2nd place in the division could be a step up and meet Irsays approval giving Ballard another year

Ballard isn't stupid and this could be his goal

This approach is not winning colts the division.  If your not in it to win the division then step aside and let someone else run the team.

That is pretty rude. Every person ads  value to this forum. Everyone can have differing opinions. You must value yourself highly if you think your opinion is the only one that is right.

Try being a Bengals fan as well… Some people on here act as if the Colts are their identity, and if the team sucks it means they also suck.

No one acts like that. This is a forum where we can all share out opinions. Doesn’t mean we don’t have a identity or have other interests.

See, this is where you get into trouble. It’s one thing to say: “I think we could improve our secondary”.

But then you go and call them dumb when you don’t even know what their thoughts of the secondary truly are.

Not sure what you’re even talking about. When there are lack of moves and Ballard has said I like my guys what does that tell you?

If the time is ticking then why are you so worried. If things don’t work out then he’ll be gone and you can be happy he’s gone.

Because I am tired of losing. Don’t you think it would be nice for once to have a team that can win and actually have fun things to talk about. Winning is fun. Average is not. Until we see Ballard actually make some moves that looks like he is trying to improve he deserves the criticism.

so let’s assume as much. And I agree by the way. They are all-in on Richardson and still conducted the offseason the way they did. What does that mean? That they don’t care? Or- does it mean they are convicted in how they are building? By all accounts, they attempted to get Hunter, and at least inquired about Sneed. They might have attempted to get more than those two, and weren’t successful. Does that mean they don’t care or aren’t attempting to improve the roster surrounding Richardson? Because that’s certainly how you and others portray it here. I don’t think it does. I think it shows players are reluctant to come here more than anything. They signed everyone back. We could have struggled to do even that this offseason, and where would we be?

They clearly are dumb if they are convicted on that secondary. That  was my point. They are either clueless at evaluating their own roster or aren’t trying their best.

Exactly, like Superman was saying earlier he’s had legit concerns about some of the things Ballard has done.  No one has a problem with that because it’s fair.  It’s the crossing the line of fans who only want to complain about Ballard, no matter what happens, that people are getting tired of even if they aren’t the biggest fans of Ballard.

To me two things sum this up.

First fans screaming since Grover’s suspension oh my god they can’t let Grover go!  They can’t stop the run without him!  If Ballard lets him go he should be fired.  The Colts then re-sign Grover and a large number of those same fans start going what is Ballard doing keeping Grover!  He should be fired for not getting someone else!

Then the fans who have spent all off-season crucifying Ballard for keeping his own while at the sametime going why hasn’t Ballard re-signed Blackmon yet?

They just want to complain about Ballard no matter what he does.  He’s in a no win situation with those fans, to the point even if what he does works those same fans will give Ballard no credit and say they won in spite of him.

No one is saying put on a Colts cheerleading outfit and cheer everything Ballard does.  Even the most blue colored glasses wearing Colts fan will admit Ballard has made mistakes and isn’t perfect.  They just draw the line at acting like the season is over in March/the first couple of days of April.

You do realize you can bring your players back plus go get a couple upgrades . It’s not one or the other. How many more yesrs you going to apologize or give excuses to Ballard?  I bet you have been saying same thing for 8 years.

Absolutely. And Irsay could very well be guiding Chris to be a bit conservative, in case Richardson ends up not working out. That way we still have future draft capital to continue looking for a QB.

You can still help out the rookie without just flat out giving up the future at the same time.

Let’s just say this is true. That means next year your already on year 3 of rivhsrdsons rookie deal. This is most likely not true. Holder even said on the radio it wasn’t true and they are all in. Ballards time is ticking. He don’t have much more time left.

I agree, but there aren’t many more moves to make other than signing a FS.  The WRs we can trade for are going to need new BIG contracts which we can’t do because we already have one.  Regarding our needs on defense, we tried.

I do agree, the time is now.  But I will say this, we shouldn’t have traded for diggs.  He’s old and expensive.  Texans are clearly in win now mode, which is fine.  They’ve had the time and resources to do it.  Now next offseason, we should be in win now mode and if we aren’t, Ballard won’t be here much longer.

I don’t want to trade for a WR. We can get that in the draft. I like our offense. But this secondary is trash.

I came to read the whiners whine about not trading for Diggs.............and you folks did not disappoint at all. LOL

Do you understand colt fans did not want diggs. No one is whining about not getting diggs. It’s about seeing the teams in the division try to improve while Ballard has not made one move to improve this team.

    Regarding the Texans and Ballard:

im not mad at Ballard.  We brought our players back.  But now that we have everyone back, ITS TIME TO GET BETTER.  Texans just made Ballard seat hotter.  This year, I didn’t expect us to make a lot of splashes, maybe one.  But next year, now that everyone is locked up, we need to add some serious talent.  The Texans are not playing at all.

They have given Stroud the weapons needed to succeed.  I’ve said it before, the formula for when you have a young stud qb on a rookie deal is to have a star WR getting paid (ex. Diggs, Pittman) and have a stud capable WR1 on a rookie deal (ex. Tank dell).  Every team has done it, except for the chiefs because they have pat Mahomes.

ballard, the clock is ticking.  The world isn’t ending, but it has an end date.

The time is now. Not next year. We just had an evaluation test with a new coach and QB. Delaying it is not the right answer. Ballard only has one scape goat left and that’s Bradley.
