Richardson on IR has nothing to do with this team being 30th in the league in points allowed.  Having blind faith in a corner who was united in college and came into the nfl injured. A guy who won’t be ready who was undrafted and a 7th round pick. Of let’s not forget Baker is still on the team.

Sort of does.  A good defense in the NFL is a product of a good offense forcing teams into panic situations and not turning the ball over.  Maintaining possession, keeping the ball on the opponents end of the field, and dictating what the other team’s offense does all play into how good your own defense is.  This team managed 9 wins in spite of Minshew.  Our secondary play was partly due to injury and partly due to the opponent being gifted with a wide open playbook due to our offense not dictating the flow of the game.  We’ll see how well Sneed does in a very different situation than he had with the Chiefs.  I like him, but I think people are stuck on his flashy plays and are not taking into account his entire resume, when the other team wasn’t forced to throw, and his DL with Jones didn’t wreak havoc on opposing QB’s.

You know, it’s possible that the Titans made the wrong move tonight and the Colts made the right one.

    It’s possible.

One things for certain.  We’ll get to learn whether Sneed is as good as this sub thinks, or whether he was a product of the Chiefs defense and matches his draft profile and pff scores as an average CB.

“If AR doesn’t pan out then yes, we’re treading water”.  ????    Sorry, but huh?

I think if AR doesn’t pan out, it’s a disaster for the entire franchise.    Heads roll.  Even if the new GM is Dodds or Brown, there will be changes in the front office.  And there might be considerable turnover of players.
It might set back the franchise for several years.

    How is that treading water?

Context, my friend.  In answering the other person’s question about whether we’ve improved by keeping our own, my point is that the QB is all that matters at this point.  Take Stroud away from Houston, and their roster is vanilla.  No Mahomes, no Super Bowl.  But yes, if AR doesn’t pan out, we’re back in the QB carousel and our FO looks different next year.  Unfortunately, I think the roster is too good, sans QB, to earn a top pick in the draft.  So the carousel will last a long time.

Is the depth we've added better than the depth last year? And young guys having another year doesn't necessarily equate to improving a team. Kind of feel were in the treading water phase

If AR does not pan out, then yes, we’re treading water.  If he does, then we’re significantly better.  Simple as that.

So...........have we improved for the 40 mill or so spent then?

Yes.  We retained key players, added depth, and our young guys have another year experience.  Did other teams improve?  Debatable.  It’s give and take.  For every key player they signed from another team, they lost a key player of their own.

  6. I like to look at the Eagles as an organization that hit on a great GM in Howie Roseman.  Can you imagine if that organization had been impatient enough to let him go during his first few years with the Chip Kelly hire?  Philly fans absolutely hated him.  Thankfully for them, he was able to hit on his 8th year before falling into meh the next 3 years without a good QB.  But over the last couple years, he has built that team into an incredible roster.  That roster would have gone 16 and 1 in 2022 had it not been for their QB going down late in the season.  With that incredible roster, they lost 2 games with their back-up QB, who did have a great stache.  Eagles fans were livid, calling for Roseman’s head because he hadn’t built a good enough roster to win with a back-up QB.

Unfortunately my knowledge of other GMs goes blank, although I do remember reading on this sub about how good the Bears had it with Ryan Pace and his hire of Matt Nagy.  Lost track of what happened there, but I assume all good, since putting together a roster and having a great QB fall into your hands is an exact science and obviously very simple and quick.  I mean, the Bears had Justin Fields, a favorite of this sub, fall into their lap.

  7. For me, the question is whether the injuries he got are avoidable when he comes back.  Will he fight for extra yardage near the goal line in the area where linebackers feed?  Will he take on 2 players when the RPO closes up?  Will he not let up as he’s crossing the goal line with a defender lurking?  If he continues to do so, then we might have a decision to make.  But not right now.

  8. It’s amusing to me the wide range of opinions these uniforms (or any team uniform changes) garner among the league fanbase.  From love them, to hate them, to ‘I can’t go on with my life’.  Very smart of the NFL to bring so much attention to the league by introducing a very small thing.  PR machine.

Couldnt you say that to the other side of my discussion also?  It might be best you don't post on here since you don't seem to understand a message board.  I come here for a good debate or discussion. That's what I'm having.  Just sharing my opinion.  Thank you to the people who responded with intelligence, I love a good back and forth.

I think the issue is that people have disagreed with you and you can’t let it go.  And I do understand a message board.  I stated my opinion, you disagreed and said it was best I don’t post on here.  Some would call that ironic.

How in the world do you guys think Pittman should be paid 20-25 mil a year?

Honestly, I’m fairly certain that none of the people on this sub, who you’re desperately trying to convince not to pay Pitt, have any say in the matter.  Might be best for you to write a letter to the organization, share your credentials, and let them know your thoughts.  Best of luck with that.

  11. With apologies to those who struggle with change, I thought the uniforms were bad *.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the traditional, but man, these were very cool.  Wasn’t sure about the promo pics, but in person, they really stood out.

  12. All rosters are at the mercy of their signal caller.  Very few are able to look good or ‘maintain’ a high level of play if they don’t have The Guy to start with, or if their The Guy gets hurt.  If Minshew turns into Matt Ryan and can’t escape pressure or get the ball downfield, we’ll get a dose of LB’s crowding the line of scrimmage, DBs playing tight coverage, and defenses bringing that extra guy or guys before GM has a chance to react.  They won’t need to worry about anything beyond 20 yards.  Suddenly, RBs have no holes opening up, and the OL gets overwhelmed, making it seem like we have a lot more holes on the roster to fix in the off-season.

I'm bearish on his ability to be an effective passer if he isn't using the wheels.  I'm not bearish on him having a chance to be a good, possibly great, read-option/RPO QB.  I am totally hibernating on what some here seem to suggest and that is having few if any designed runs for the kid.  That won't work IMO.  Not at all.  He is not good enough of a dart player for that to work and I don't see him getting better enough at darts over guys that are already really good at throwing darts.

If he can run and stay healthy we might have something here.   IF not.  I don't see it at all.

I really like what I’ve seen from him in the pocket, and he’s nowhere near his ceiling.  And without the designed run aspect, he’ll always have a great awareness in the pocket with tremendous escapability.  You can also still have some designed runs and not put yourself in bad positions.  His best runs garnered over 10 yards before contact.  I’ll take 10 yards with a slide at the end any day.  The question is whether he can learn to give up when it’s not there.  Regardless, I think we give him more than 10 quarters before assessing his career trajectory.

Except they have looked good when Minshew has been in there before today.  They hadn’t been credited with giving up sack going into today and since Minshew had played almost 50% of the snaps going into today you can’t say is all because of Richardson.  Look I know you like Richardson and want him to do well, we all do, but he is not the Colts only good player who does good things.

I think the difference is teams can afford to bring pressure from different places other than the Dline, knowing they don’t need to cover as much field.  We got a heavy dose of that last year with Ryan.  I do like GM, but he does have limitations that were exploited today.  I do look forward to seeing how he comes back from this next week.

Colts out gained the jags 354-233, the -3 turnovers is what lost the game. Is that all on the qb? I didn’t see the game so I can’t comment on that. Was he under pressure and hurried throws because it it? I don’t know. The colts should be a running team with a very good line and two top rb’s that are better than any other team. But you have to keep at it, even if it doesn’t work every play and be a better screen team with those two top backs! That’s their strength, not qb or wr.

He was a bit rough.  Seemed like he had very little control of the ball today.  And he just can’t escape pressure.  Led a nice drive to open the game, but fell apart from there.

Yes and no.  I get the idea that AR still has a lot to learn about protecting himself but people can’t have it both ways and say the injury vs the Titans was a freak injury and that’s why he was hurt because no one can take that kind of hit and not hurt their shoulder and then say he will be fine once he learns to take care of himself.

I stand by what I’ve said before there is very much reason to be cornered about AR’s tendency to get hurt this short into his career.  However, concerned is just that concern.  It’s not panic and you don’t give up on Richardson over it but it does mean that until he proves he can stay healthy you prepare like he can’t, which the Colts did by bringing in a very high end backup QB.  Yes I know today was a bad game from Minshew but I still think he’s what you want as a backup QB and I’d like to see the Colts extend him to continue to be AR’s backup.

I’ll buy that, but…all injuries are a fraction of a second from the body being in a different position that would have resulted in no injury.  The key is to statistically bring down the odds of any injury occurring.  If AR learns to NOT take on 2 players and immediately go down, then we’re not even talking about this.  He finishes the game, moves on to another week, and everybody talks about whatever occurred today.  All QBs are injury prone if they repeatedly put themselves in those positions, which AR has.  He’s walked away from most of the hits, but statistically, the odds aren’t good.  He can still run, but he should not be out there trying take on defenders and/or breaking tackles.

Yes, he is one of the youngest starting qbs in league history.  He does have a lot to learn and this is him learning it.

He should never be compared to Matt Ryan who is among the most experienced QBs in league history.

I think you’d be better off telling him that AR has reached his ceiling after 4 games in the NFL and will never improve or learn how to avoid hits.  He’ll sleep much better.

Lot of overreactions in this thread. Chill out, it's one game.

Normal week.  I bet about half the fan bases out there, including the 49ers, are overreacting and calling for a new GM, coach, stadium bathroom facilities, or new team colors about now.  It’s why I love the new Dr. Pepper Fansville commercial about fan overreaction.

his injuries haven’t been the result of not getting down.  They have been routine NFL tackles that’s why it’s concerning, you can’t say if the line just protected him better or if he would just slide he would be okay like you could with Luck.  He’s getting hurt on normal hits he’s going to take as a running QB.  He was going to the ground when he got hurt week one, week two came on just being pushed going out of bounds on a run, he got stepped on scrambling vs the Rams, and he was going down and took a normal hit a running QB is going to take vs the Titans.  So far he’s shown he can’t take normal hits and that’s part of why it’s concerning.

I don’t think having a DE land on you at speed with your shoulders perpendicular to the ground is a normal hit.  Any slight change in angle, timing, whatever, and he gets back up just like all the other hits he’s taken this year.  There is some luck involved.  The concern is that he needs to give up on those types of plays when they’re not there instead of taking on 2 defenders.  Hopefully that can become part of his game.

I want the Colts to figure out if Minshew can be a Franchise QB.  I want them to figure out really soon.  If Minshew isn't it then we need to hopefully draft top 5 next year and get an insurance policy for AR.  I don't think AR can make a comeback from this shoulder injury if he needs surgery.

I’m confused.  There’s already tape out there to suggest he is a backup.

I think most of the disparity between PFF and fan-opinions comes from how PFF grades. PFF grades the play not the result of the play while fans are much more focused on the result.

An example would be AR's first TD pass to Pittman. AR threw it, what, 3 downfield air-yards? Pittman did all the work. PFF would grade the decision to throw it to Pittman and those 3-ish air-yards and say "that's what AR did", the rest is all Pittman. The fans would see a 36 yard pass and a TD.

I get it, but I think we’re overusing and/or misusing metrics these days.  A lot more went into that pass and catch/run than Joe Schmo PFF can account for, or even understand.  Fans used to be happy with the result, now they seem to second guess everything based on some strangers way of assessing things.  I’ll step back now, sit on my front porch and continue to swear at youngins’ driving too fast.
