If that happens, I will buy you a drink my friend. Heck, I'll buy you a drink if we end up Superbowl Champs without any of the other parameters!

I don’t think I would buy him a drink. I think we should buy what *he’s drinking :)

  2. Fun topic!

    Predictions:

    • 1/3 of the board will be doom and gloom with each pick that is announced - setting up for the ‘Fire Chris Ballard’ threads

    • 1/3 of the board will LOVE the draft picks and predict the Colts will go 13-3 because we won the draft

    • 1/3 of the board will be measured and take a ‘wait and see’ approach with the draft picks - suggesting we re-evaluate this draft in 3 years

    • Many people will have never heard of the draft picks in rounds 5, 6, and 7

*I know...this wasn’t what you were asking. But, it made me chuckle thinking about it. I also chose 1/3 because I’m an optimist :)

Brent is one of the best Colts follows on twitter.

Thanks for this info! What is interesting to me is the lack of OL on this list. 2 of the 4 listed are potential 1st rounders.

I’m not comfortable pulling the trigger on him early. Any round after the 3rd, but he’s being projected to go between rounds 2-3.

As for Callaway, if he drops because of his off field baggage, I’d use our 6th on him to try and jump the field. If he’s gone before that, I’m ok with that.

  4. Wow, this is going to be a fun offseason. Today, we have a topic where ESPN has us ranked #31. Next month, after the draft, ESPN will (probably) have a segment where we were the  draft winners. That’s what happens when you have 4 picks in the top 50 currently.

However, a ranking of 31 out of 32 NFL teams in March is as important as who the perceived winner of the draft is in April - which is not very important.

But, there isn’t much (new) to talk about in March - at ESPN or on here. I get it. I just hope we don’t put a lot of weight in either one.

*Oh by the way, when Luck does come back, he’s going to be ... rusty. It may take several actual games before things start to slow down again for him and he looks like his old self. Here’s hoping we all take a balanced, measured approach when that happens. :)

  5. What if

John Elway went to Baltimore in 1983

Would the Colts still be in Baltimore?

    Would Trump still be president?

Would there be so many potholes in Indianapolis?

    ...we may never know

I have thought about that statement and I think he thinks there are 7 to 8 blue chips PLUS the QB's IMO. I heard the pod cast, & I think Ballard caught himself and threw in the QB's as to drum the QB's up value so to speak. The Colts really don't care about the QB's other than in terms of how many are drafted before us. IMO NONE of the QB's are can't miss guys? Just my 2 cents.

You could be right! His statement could have been smoke and mirrors letting a team know that if there is a QB on the board and they want to trade up to grab him, it will cost them.

  7. If you are to take Ballard at face value, he believes there are 7-8 blue chip prospects at the top - including QBs.

If I had to guess, that list includes 3 or 4 of the QBs you see listed at the top and Barkley, Chubb, Nelson, and Fitzpatrick.

One of the things that will be interesting to see is how BPA and need will play out. To illustrate this, let’s assume the draft unfolds with 3 QBs taken and Chubb and Nelson. At 6, faced with the choice of Barkley, Fitzpatrick, or a trade down (which removes you from the 7-8 blue chip prospects), what will Ballard do? I’d love Fitzpatrick if we didn’t just draft Hooker. If Barkley and Fitzpatrick are BPA, will he then choose based on need?

Signing an old journeyman isn't the question... why is THIS guy so special that he's pulled a Grigson move and signed a broken down short term vet in contradiction to his stated philosophy and if this is the new policy, or was all along, then why not sign a better veteran WR for example (I don't count Ebron who couldn't get ball from one of the most prolific QBs in the league and he played bad enough to get booed by Lions fans... no small rebuke).

I don’t want to pretend to know anything. I only want to share plausible answers to the question.

They know what type of person Slauson is in the locker room. He could be exactly what kind of mentor they are looking for. He could also be a stop gap for a long term solution - what if Billy Price is available for our 4th or 5th pick due to his injury?

Similarly, Grant could be that kind of signing as well. Read about his character and leadership in the locker room and not just his reliable hands and crisp route running.

The biggest potential thing this allows for is draft board flexibility. When guys fall, Ballard and company can go many different ways. It’s honestly the best case scenario they could hope for.

Steve Wilks should be the Head Coach of Indianapolis Colts. .If you don't see it Im sorry..Now we r in scramble mode ...Not ideal.Falls on 1 man's feet...

Man, I was really interested in Steve Wilks too! I hated that he withdrew his name during the first round of interviews. It was rumored back then that we were looking for an offensive minded coach - ie JM.

But if Ballard changed his mind, I’d love for him to get a shot at an interview.

You are correct. ..Reich could very well be Don Shula...All i am saying is put a few pitbulls in the ring at least....Then decide..

Fair enough! The only problem is that we have to have a pit bull want to get in our ring.

It is similar to the Pacers. There will be a ton of upper tier free agents this summer. Fans can scream “Why don’t they sign Lebron?!” The reality is that Lebron was never considering Indiana.

Similarly, there are many coaches that are not even considering the Indianapolis Colts coaching opportunity. Those that are, I’d love to get the best of that group.

Would you take Reich over any? Have we reached out to them? Who knows?

Sadly, they haven’t invited me into the process. I’m not being coy when I say that. I’m operating in an absence of information. I don’t know who I would take if I were Ballard because I don’t know (1) who has applied, (2) what they said when they were interviewed, and (3) how they would mesh with my personality and the others in the building.

For the purpsoses of the internet though, I understand that there are some sexier candidates than others. However, I know Doug Pederson was no one’s first choice and he just won a Super Bowl.

  12. Goodness, I hope the Colts hire a coach soon. All of these suggestions that are being thrown out for the Colts to hire all lack one pretty important thing: they don’t want to leave what they’re doing!

Manning, Saban, Sweeney, Harbaugh, and whoever else that has been mentioned are not interested! We all do realize that it takes two people to get a job - the person hiring and the person APPLYING.

I am sure conversations are constantly had (like Ballard mentioned in his presser) and feelers are constantly put out to gauge an individual’s thinking.

*However, I do hope rumors get out that Dabo Sweeney might be interested so that Urban Meyer can get a little payback. Is that wrong? It probably is...

  13. Besides his line at the end of the press conference, the other thing that stood out to me was that he said that JM has not talked to Andrew Luck throughout this process. Strange.

Most people had used the causal relationship that if JM took the job, he must be confident in Andrew’s recovery.

And then, when JM reverses course, some people used the causal relationship that Andrew’s recovery had had a set back.

Both appear to be inaccurate if JM never spoke with Andrew Luck at any time. Interesting.

I just don't get how everyone here automatically has to dismiss every negative report that comes down. Denial?

I suppose Mortensen could be wrong. But I doubt he makes this stuff up. After all he is one of the more respected analysts.

Respectfully, the exact same argument can be made for those that automatically accept every new report that comes out. It is a common logical fallacy to use causes to support one’s position.

And sometimes, people just want to watch the world burn... :)

Things are already a disaster. Ballard just got played... Not a guy I trust with high stakes rebuilding program. He gonna get fleeced continually.

    Brad Wells...is that you?

At first, I thought you were being sarcastic (which I can appreciate). But when you doubled down, it turned to pure gold!

  16. E + R = O

    (Event + Response = Outcome)

This is true in life as well as in this situation. We all have events that happen to us and most are out of our control. The only thing we can control is the response to that event. Many times, our response will determine the outcome.

I’m interested to see how the Colts will respond to this and how it will ultimately move us forward or set us back.

*That formula I learned from Urban Meyer who probably learned it from someone else. It is not my intellectual property :)

  17. My gut tells me that the simplest explanation is probably the correct one - he got a counter-offer (and probably a raise) and maybe even a timeline of B.B. departure. There may have been some discussion about him being first in line as his possible successor.

This wasn’t a long con. This wasn’t a troll job. This wasn’t payback - at least from JM.
