    1) Agree partially. Not a bad thing to have a couple of divas as long as they have all pro talent. U talk about character and the Colts always talk about it. Where was that so called character in the last 2 games?

    2) Cannot develop talent if your scouts and GM don't get u the right players. Ballard has drafted Dlinen and most of them look like wasted picks. We shall see this year whether is was talent or scheme as to why these D linemen have under whelmed.

    3) Yes, they are competitive. The big issue is these slow starts to the season they are having. It makes them play catch up the rest of the season.

    1) You and I seem have to see character in a different light. So be it. Also, diva's create an unbalanced locker room when it comes to the locker room bond. It is a bad thing. It is the sole reason the Cowboys will never return to greatness with Jones. He likes rock star players. Most...are divas.

    2) Feel free to point your finger at what you call wasted picks. I'll wait and see. It's what you do.

    3)True.

And how do judge success in the NFL?

#1 Drafting and maintaining a roster that displays high character, drive, and perseverance.

#2 Assembling a staff that is very good at development so that the G.M. has to use FA as a fill in only.

#3 Forming a team that is competitive perpetually.

And if you’re not impressed with Ballard then I don’t know what to tell you?   It’s a stunning admission by you.    He’s done extra ordinary work under enormously difficult circumstances.   He’s widely regarded as one of the best in the business.

If one chooses, they can use many analyses, points of logic, and comparisons to question the validity of every single G.M. both past and present. Every.....single....one.

I guess it comes down to each fans reason for participation on this site. I am here solely to share positive vibes about the team I have followed for 50 years+.

I am not here to demand change, nor to point out flaws to justify my precious dedication as a fan, or to display my amazing knowledge as a couch G.M.

I love rooting for the team, believing regardless of the outlook or indicated future, and feeling joy about every season. It's wicked fun!

To me, many fans have a misconception that the teams that make these runs in the playoffs don’t have weaknesses or are significantly better than our roster. Sure the teams are built different than Indy and I think that’s what gets to some fans. They see a specific strategy working well for a few years and it becomes easy to assume you can’t win another way. I just don’t follow that line of thinking, I think there are a couple of different ways to make a run and I think Indy is down one of those paths. Strong defensive play with high turnovers, efficient spread offense with a featured run game.

    Well said.

I’m one of those that doesn’t think Grigson is to blame for Luck.  I think Luck just wasn’t really into football and would have retired early no matter what GM we had. That’s ok.

Grigson wasn’t a good GM but I will admit the guy went for it.  He swung for the fence but like all big swingers he struck out a lot.  He did very well operating the salary cap and we weren’t saddled with dead money like Polian’s son did.  He had a decent run but he was a total jerk and his misses added up and that got him fired.

Ballard is clearly the better GM. Still, if he wants to go down as a great GM he will need to pick a QB in the draft. He knows this and taking his time.

If Grigson had been more successful at putting an o-line around Luck, Andrew would have still held on to the ball too long, looked for the big play, and gotten himself hurt. If Luck had done more to help by working on and improving his short game, it would have made the Colts better, but not good enough to overcome Grigson's G.M. abilities.

    I blame them both.

Interesting suggestion there and I don't disagree.  Where you run into issues though is a guy like Deebo Samuel who gets rotated through the backfield in scheme.  But I'm sure they could come up with some way of identifying RB.

Yes, I thought of that. Perhaps minimum carries at the position. Another angle in the opposite side of the coin would be to set a limit on carries per year or total up to the one year short point......to keep teams from riding the kids into the ground before they get that one big contract. I know....issues with every suggestion, but at this juncture, RB's are getting a lesser opportunity than other positions at getting that second contract.

I'm gonna walk into this argument because, well, I'm kinda dumb that way.  (To be fair, I'm kinda dumb in other ways, too.)  But I also have an opinion on the matter.

I think that Luck got hit a lot and got hurt a lot because of a perfect storm of conditions:

    (1)  To my knowledge, they were running the Zampese offense at the time.  Which normally requires deeper pass routes, longer throws, and holding onto the ball longer.

    (2)  After Reggie left the team, the primary receiver was TY Hilton.  Who, with his smaller size and catch radius, had to create separation in order to be open.  Which means running further downfield.  Which means holding onto the ball longer.

    (3)  The patchwork OL was just not jelling.  Yes, Grigson addressed it.  Over and over.  (Satele, McGlynn, Cherilus, and others)  But it just wasn't working out.

So -- You had a QB throwing in an offense that required him to hold onto the ball longer, to a receiver that required him to hold onto the ball longer, with an OL that couldn't protect him for an extended period of time.

Is anybody surprised that he got hit?  A lot?  And got hurt?  A lot?

Taylor btw is a great kid and all.  Supremely talented and a strong locker room type.  But he's going to represent a business decision because of that position he plays.  You gotta look at his insane production at college, then over his first contract, and ask yourself honestly what's left in that tank.  How many years.  Then try to get him to sign something both sides can be happy with, which, we'll see if they can get that done.  The business side of this league really sucks, things are better now than they were for fans with players moving, but the old days of teams having control did at least favor longer relationships with favored players.

I feel that RB's should have one year less on their rookie deals because of this very thing.
