  1. Jacoby is good, hes not great, hes not elite.  In time, with the right team around him and the right coaching he might be great, but probably never elite.

Past few years hes been a very good backup, just because he was thrust into a starting role doesnt mean his skillset automatically makes the leap with him.  The demands on that skillset do, but the set is the same.

I like Jacoby alot, I'm glad we have him.  I honestly believe hes the right guy for right now.  Given the circumstances we couldn't have done better and I've really enjoyed watching him this year.  But hes a "top 20" qb in the best assessment of the people around him.  Not exactly glowing, but probably pretty fair.

The clock ticks on these mid talent dudes tho.  Unfortunately, as time moves on, his flaws will probably become more apparent than his strengths.

I'm not saying he cant improve, it's just that I believe those improvements will be marginal at best.  At this level there are so many intangibles, physical traits, mental acuity, etc that all eventually top out long before things like desire, skill, leadership, and work ethic.

If hes going to succeed it's not going to be on his own.  It will be as much about the team they build around him, and a scheme that continues to feature what he does best.  It's a much tougher proposition and it's going to lead to neverending debate in forums like these.  But its not ever going to be all about jacoby.

  2. It's been a bad few weeks through what should have been an easier stretch in the schedule.  My confidence in this team is down, not going to lie,  but I'm not ready to give up on the idea of them being able to rally and respond.

The decisions recently have given me pause concerning the FO and coaching staff as well but I think it may be results based recency bias more than the cultural collapse it feels like.

I had so much confidence in what was being built over the last two years that, in spite of my "feelings", shouldnt I shouldnt allow the last few weeks to erase that.

The season could look a 180 degree difference 3 weeks from now than it has in the gloom of the last 3 weeks.

I predicted a jags victory in another thread but I still think the colts find a way to make it interesting down the stretch and leave us with some positives leading into next year.

I think what's going on is that the organization took a good hard look at the team and decided that this wasn't the year.

If they felt this was a prime contending season they probably wouldn't stick with AV as it is, if they think we're more or less just playing out the string this year, you might as well let him finish with the team.

We had a good chance this year, but ran into some nasty injuries and I honestly think we are just playing out the string now.  At least unless Brissett might have other ideas and begin to inject some life back into the team.

Remember that there was a very strong sense at the beginning of the season that this was an evaluation year.  I think that's still true, at least in the executive suite.  Brissett pulled together some games and had us outperforming for awhile, and that is a very good sign going forward,, but I think Ballard had made the decision that a regression to the mean was likely no matter what he did, and kept his powder dry for the offseason.  And after watching the last 2 weeks of football I can't say he was wrong.

Theres probably some truth in that, and that worries me more than anything.

Folding up camp at the halfway point, with a winning record, in a winnable division is contrary to what we were led to believe this organization is about.

If what you suggest is true the "rivalry is not back on".  The idea that theres no quit in this team, top to bottom character matters,  that lockerroom culture matters and must be protected, that they prove their way through adversity,  and "1,2,3 family" simply wouldnt be true.  The culture they've said they're building becomes the palest illusion.

If what you suggest is true the colts are tanking worse than the dolphins, and wont be able to evaluate effectively because they aren't running an organization that believes in it's own professed culture.

If they're just playing out the string it means they've decided to evaluate players in a losing environment not a winning one.  They wont see the best of anyone under those circumstances.

Not saying you're wrong but if they're at that point already, under these circumstances.......irsay may as well just fire everyone and move it london.  Beckham can kick for us, hes close to 50 right?

I think this has Irsay all over it. Hes msking Ballard and Reich back up Vinny... I think hes scared Pats will steal the retirement thunder. I do believe the Pars would sign him to finish there. Carry two kickers.

Pat's would gave cut him 2x this year if he was playing there.  I doubt signing him for retirement purposes is high on Robert or Bill's to do list.  I dont understand the tempest of the evil mind tho so you may be right.

  5. The colts, in general, and Reich specifically are definitely putting their credibility on the line for Vinny.  Nobody: coaches, players, or fans can seriously buy the "get 1% better every day" mantra anymore.  We're not climbing the mountain we're resting at base camp and if we make some progress well that's ok too.

This looks worse than pagano calling guys "a rolling ball of butcher knives" and hoping it looks true long enough to allow you to exit the situation gracefully.  (It didnt with chuck).

I always try to side with the people that know the situation best when decision making but this one rings hollow.  I dont think any of them have the utmost confidence in Adam (including adam) or that 46 year old athletes go thru "phases".  Its written all over their faces and embedded in their speeches.

I hope Vinny can turn it around long enough to get through the season tho.  I get it, I understand what is being held up here, but it's the wrong message IMO because its contrary to the message being pushing to the 52 other dudes you're developing.

It'll be telling how much more the "analytics" will suggest going for it on 4th or trying for 2pt conversations.

I'm really afraid that if adam misses anything of value in the next three weeks its gonna damage the credibility and performance of this entire organization for the remainder of the season.

Next year isnt going to be affected, as we're probably going to see alot of turnover in the off season....

I just dont see there being a better look for adam at the end of the year than there is right now.  I'm kinda baffled, how does the risk not outweigh the reward on this one?

Oh well, I can just hope I'm proven wrong, and gladly admit it come the end of December.

Just remember not to "boo".  We know how that one plays out.

Sorry gang, confused, meandering, half hearted rant over. Lol.

He's certainly not irredeemable. There's just a lot more scrutiny that comes with the QB position, fair or not. You can be WR and do drugs, beat women/kids, and still get more chances. CK did none of that.

I'm pretty sure uncle Jim put a foot up his backside, and made a call to Frank. I hope that's enough (Jim's foot), and I think the Colts (and Frank) are a good spot to provide support for him.

    Agreed.

I think you can trust him if he stays away from the booze.

But can we trust him to stay away from the booze?

Took Farve getting tossed out Atl to straighten up.  I've heard nothing this year about Kelly overindulgeing (not that I'm seeking out Kelly scandal stories).  Maybe getting run out of Denver was enough tho.......He should be judged on his current performance/behavior not his past.

It's reasonable to remember and identify reoccurring red flags but you cant live in fear of them if they're not actively hindering things.  Admittedly I could be ignorant of "bad behavior" this year, but my understanding is that hes been on the straight narrow.

To be clear I'm not advocating he take over this team.  I like Brissett quite a bit, and I'm not sure hes reached his ceiling yet either.  I'm totally open to a training camp competition next year though.

I do hope Kelly gets a chance somewhere (starter or backup) if not here.  I just dont see him as irredeemable like some seem to.

I for one, dont see him ever being able to handle the pressures from the NFL as SB contenders. And herein lies my issues with Chad Kelly. People wanted him in, in the 4th qtr. But there is no way you can ever trust him to handle that much pressure, when he has handled nearly no pressure at all, in a horrible manner, repeatedly, over and over, without fail. He might win now, but if Andrew (this is about Chad Kelly) couldn't handle all the pressures in various ways, what makes you think a guy like Chad Kelly can?

(For those who are tired of this topic, feel free not to reply)

Bottom line is if he somehow becomes the colts starting QB, colts fans will largely support him.

They'll praise him when he does well, they'll fall off a cliff when he performs poorly.  "Told you so's" will fly on both sides, sometimes by the same people, just like it is now.

I have faith that as people age they sometimes, usually even, mature.  Question is how much opportunity is left for them by the time they begin/complete the process.

I dont know the guy.  I have no idea what he's made of.  I have no way of knowing how much "pressure" he will even feel he's under, much less how much he can handle.

If he gets a chance it'll be given to him by people who are far closer to him than any of us.  I have faith, if that happens, it will be a chance he will have earned and will deserve.

  9. Hoyer was terrible but the the final drive was still within one score, in the red zone (where we've been very productive) with time on the clock.

Dont love the playcalling, understand  and accept the explanations tho.  Obviously the outcome stunk.  But the team came within short Ebron route of having a shot at winning.

Overcame 3 ints and "the nail in the coffin" (vinny's new 70-30 nickname.  It can be positive or negative.  The fun is we can never know which nail or which coffin til after the kick, but it's always fitting .....(love u vinny,  HOF regardless).

It's a bad loss, but its Tuesday, time to bury it.  Seasons on the line in the very near future.  This dropping (pun intended) is behind us.

Swag (we need to workshop that one) will get his chance eventually just wasn't his week.

No, this game Vs the Jags is the season. We lose, and we have a tough schedule at 5-5 with a tough division and some guys still hurt. We NEED to win this week.

I agree, I was speaking under the impression we will need all three w's.  But you're right in that the games will happen one at a time.

  11. I'm not too low on Frank yet.  I still think hes a fantastic coach that has had his team in a position to win all but one game this year.

The colts are not world beaters talent wise.  I think were seeing good game plans, schemed for the talent we have, and executed by mostly young, developing players.  Ultimately being sunk by catastrophic on field errors from unexpected sources.  And yet still all games (won or lost) have been within one score.

In a position to win, week in week out, in spite of injury, talent, healthy scratches, negative plays, etc. That's a positive thing and proof that we're capable of overcoming the myriad errors we've witnessed this year.

    The foundation here is strong.

We're reacting to these losses like this team is stacked and healthy, right now it's neither.

I'm not saying there arent problems, clearly there are.  I think Reich is in real danger of losing this locker room, and deserves to shoulder some of the blame, but the front office needs to send a strong message this week to wake these guys up.  The next three games are the season.

I still believe in what frank is doing but it's time for a reality check followed closely by a gut check.

I'm just asking, how many people are walking around and available that could do better.  I am not a super fan who knows all the people out there who are available, on practice squads, etc. Just genuinely like to know if there is anyone you guys have in mind.  I don't know if Rigo was kicking field goals in college or not.

I think its past the point of "who's out there" and crossed over into damaging the credibility of the organization/ coaching staff.

You cant allow it to continue if u want other (mostly very young) players to take a message of personal "accountability" seriously.  His performance is literally undermining the coaching philosophy at this point.

We've been seeing poor execution, foolish mistakes, healthy scratches, and general lack of focus and intensity for weeks.  And its directly rekated.

Vinny is hurting this team on and off the field.  He knows it, the staff knows it and we're just seeing the start of it.

Hate to say it but the "total confidence" approach has run its course, its dangerously close to being about sending a message if there is any hope for a playoff run.

We may not be playing for that this year tho.  Who knows what the plan is internally.  After Lucks departure it could just be an evaluation year.

Reich said Jacoby was 80% I would have taken that over 100% Hoyer anytime.

They thought they could roll the fins regardless of who was at QB.  They were wrong.  Comes down to execution.  What team overcomes 3 pics and another missed extra point?  Not many.

  14. Hard to preach accountability to a young locker room while letting a dude ride on his past success.  He has built a hall of fame career in the past, he will be inducted in the future, but at present he's assassinating a team with zero margin for error.  I know that sounds harsh but this team is on the cusp of a breakdown,  it's in a tailspin and management is in danger of losing this locker room........they need a shakeup.  Just my opinion.

  15. Cant overcome 3 ints and a missed extra point.  Almost impossible.

Still a 1 score game tho,  that's how bad the team we just lost to is.  Smh.

Only question I have tho, is it still premature to panic or was in an * for believing in the first place?

I'm still about 10 steps from the ledge the so I guess I'm ok.  But I'm walking that way.
