I don't understand how you can be a 'bust' if you physically can't get on the field.

I for one would like to see Funchess come back next year. Guy is a baller and just had an unfortunately injury take place.

I think you can still be a bust...though no one is at fault.

If one is going by just this year than it would go:

    1. Watson

    2. Brissett

    3. Tannehill

    4. Foles

-Foles has been injured all season and has played in only 3 games in which the Jags are 0-3 and he played bad in all 3 games. Foles is easily last this season. Lets not get carried away with Tannehill. He and his team blew out the Jags but so did we, he and his team beat KC but so did we at KC in primetime. Too many people in here have a knee jerk reaction based on each Sunday and when we lose the earth is coming to end for some in here :funny:. Tannehill looked great last week so all of the sudden he is better than JB, comical. We will find out Sunday what happens.

No way JB is ahead of Tannehilll...it we are just going by this year.

Luck put himself on retirement with years left on his contract...

I'm sure the trainers were wrapping and treating his ankle. If they weren't, then OK, but there's enough out there to not make this a grand conspiracy theory out of it. He's in a contract year and the Colts didn't extend him. Given his reduced role, if I were him I'd do whatever I could to put myself in the best position going into FA. It's a business.

He is in a contract year...but it's the contract year of a two-year $15M FA contract he (willingly) signed with the Colts...after essentially being a 1st round bust with DET. Personally, I don't know why there would be some expectation of getting a big new deal after ONE year with a new team...when you are still under contract. It's certainly not the norm.

And it's not like the Colts didn't have a huge hand in building his value back up...so I don't really think they owe him anything.

That just seems like a pretty slippery slope...when we talk about contract years for players. This isn't some guy on a cheap rookie deal his predecessors negotiated...he was a FA and accepeted the best deal he could get...and what comes with that.

But I can understand if he is making a business decision (which it does appear could be the base)...and I never fault NFL players for looking out for themselves...but in Ebron's case...I also won't defend him from any of the blowback that would come with making that type of decision...especially in season.

As for this season...Luck leaving obviously impacted everybody...and Ebron does have less of a role and less production (for reasons that have been beaten to death...though there are still those who won't accept realities).

But...it's not like he has maximized his chances. He still drops passes at an alarming rate...and after complaining to the media...and having Reich cowtow to him...he went out and had a terrible game against one of the worst teams in the NFL.

I just think the Ebron era is over now...and I will remember 2018 fondly...but I also am fine if I don't have to ever talk about him again.

It was reported that he had a check up on his ankle in preseason and it was determine to not be serious enough to hinder his play. He practiced and played without any problems or complains till either before or after week 9. It was either before or after week 10 I believe that he went to the press and complained about lack of playing time and targets. Gathered that did not settle well with Reich or front office as he kind of threw Reich under the bus. Didn't mention then that he was playing with excruciating pain in his ankle but wanted more playing time. Reich said they were unaware he was experiencing real problems. I would suspect the training staff would have been aware if he was getting treated and Reich would have been notified. Someone isn't being truthful.

As for Andrew getting a pass, he retired from football altogether. He did not put himself on IR (Reich's words). If EE hangs up his cleats next year I then will agree he gets a pass.

Excellent summary. For a guy dealing with ankle issues all year...he was very quick to complain about being involved more.

I will say...back in April...Ebron did have some type of procedure. We don't know what that was...but it could be related. However, it didn't seem (to us) to affect him until now.

Also this offseason...I heard a rumor that Ebron was thinking about holding out before the season to secure a big new deal. I have no idea if that is true (however...those little one-off rumors that don't get picked up sometimes do have a way of being true)...but putting himself on IR like this would certainly track with that.

Over on Stampede Blue (they love Ebron)...back in January they had an article about giving Ebron an extension this past offseason...and 75% voted for it. It was a bad idea then...and it would look pretty awful now.

Ebron looked set to sign a massive contract this off seaoson as it stands now how much has this season cost him in potential future earnings . Can you blame the guy for getting fixed up so he can prove his worth during FA workouts . This seems like a calculated business decision to me .

I heard he was going to hold out to get a new deal...but decided to report. This is very likely a business decision...especially for a impending FA. I can't really fault the guy for that...but blowback from that comes with the territory. Regardless, I have soured on him as a Colts player.

Been reading a few of these anti-Ebron comments. I call nonsense on that.  I think he's been an overall positive for the team, and don't understand the bashing. I know he dropped a few this year, but so did every other receiver not named TY Hilton. And in 2018, he was All Pro. I have no idea whether he'll be back or not, but he's been happy to be a Colt, and for the most part, has been a positive locker room presence. I wish him well wherever he ends up.

I am not anti-Ebron...and last year was fun. But I have never thought he was as good as the player we saw (at times) last year...and I have never thought he was as bad as the guy who drops four passes/game. He's in the middle...an inconsistent (though solid overall) pass-catching TE. And his 2018 production has more than made up for the Colts investment.

But now...it's probably best to move on. In the draft is where you can get that all-around top tier TE...like a Kittle, Kelce, Ertz, Henry, Andrews, Hock etc. It's time that Ballard makes that type of investment (maybe even draft a pair).

  7. 1 hour ago, DownHillRunner said:

You have to ask yourself this, does Ebron want to come back? He was on Twitter months back liking "to the Panthers" tweets from Panthers fans who want him to come to the Panthers. Also,  throwing Frank under the bus in the media for not giving him the ball.

CAR is probably better off just seeing what Ian Thomas can do.

But I am with you...Ebron's public cries for the ball...and then having that garbage game...really soured me.

  8. FA isn’t the only way to “buy” talent. Teams seem more willing than ever to trade proven talent for picks. If an opportunity presents itself...where a proven talent is set to get paid (or already under a big contract)...I would love to see Ballard flex his cap space and take advantage. I am not talking about shelling out multiple 1st round picks...but I don’t think a Day Two pick would be off the table.

Yep. And in 2017 Wentz got injured and didn't play the last 3 games in which they passed 51% of the time(which drags the overall stat for the season down too).

You want a conspiracy theory? (Disclaimer: THIS IS A CONSPIRACY THEORY AND I AM DOING IT MORE AS A FUN HYPOTHETICAL THAN THINKING IT'S TRUE AND I HAVE ZERO EVIDENCE IT'S TRUE)

So... what if Reich knew Luck is retiring after the season and started preparing the team and the fans for run heavy team next season through his media statements? There were so many weird statements about the run game in the off-season from him... you can browse old threads here and see me expressing concern for those statements even at the time.

I am with you...I think they knew for a long time. Not only were there comments about the run game...but JB as well,

how exactly does houston have the tiebreaker for the division?  we split with them but we havent lost to the titans or jax yet.

Assuming both IND and HOU win out their remaining AFCS games...it goes to common games (since h2h and divisional record is tied). Colts can tie that by running the table (assuming HOU wins out)...but they can’t catch HOU on the conference game tiebreaker.

This is assuming a lot...and there are games left that will decide it...but HOU can control their destiny.

I think the Colts were 6-5 last year after 11 games and made the playoffs.  So it's possible.  I like the direction the Colts are going and the future looks bright.

I do think it's funny that people are complaining about the Colts running too much, yet on their two TDs drives... 18 total plays, 17 runs.  On the non TD drives they were more 50/50 in run pass ratio.

I think all the Houston game did was show the Colts need a QB to be able to throw downfield.  The Colts had a great running game yesterday but sometimes that is not enough to win in the NFL.

Completely different trajectories though. Luck was officially back after a slow start and playing like an MVP...and the schedule was a joke. Even when they were still <.500...I didn't see any reason why they couldn't run the table.

Instead, you have a passing offense (and QB) that is regressing...and a schedule that is a bit tougher.

But we will watch and hope they win out and some things can align.

    Doyle was open many times.

His lack of involvement over the past few weeks is puzzling. He's not some dynamic threat...but he's steady...and reliable. And after putting up his best game of the year (granted it was only 61 yards)...he only seen 12 targets over the past three games.

I know they are running a lot more...but since there is virtually no downfield passing game...Doyle should be seeing 7-8 targets/game...even if that means giving him Ebron's targets...because Doyle is open a lot...and will pick up yardage.

He had some bad moments, but overall the the D still held them under 21 in their own house. And Houston has arguably one of the best deep games in the league when Fuller is healthy. I've seen Fuller torch many teams, and also how just the pretense of Fuller opens up other WRs. Adding just that one aspect amplifies the difficulty level of defending by a ton.l

People on this forum have criminally underrated Fuller since he came in the league...I would take his talent on this team in a heartbeat. The only thing that has held him back is injuries. He is on a TY Hilton-esque career arch if not for those injuries.

  14. Doesn't matter because HOU just took over the tiebreaker. They have to lose at least two games ROS for the Colts to even have a chance to get it back.

It's time to start scoreboard watching.

Bringing in a rookie QB before you give him weapons is not going to be s good result. How you think a rookie QB would fair with that WR group last night.  Before I give up on him I need to see what he can do with real weapons.

Luck had an aging Reggie, a gaggle of rookies (Hilton, Allen, Fleener and Ballard), a crap run game and a crap OL.

This next QB will have TY, Campbell, a very strong run game and an elite OL. He can grow and develop with other young guys they bring in.

Yeah...there is good dialogue and debate here. Over there...not really...the mere critique of JB or Ballard will get you downvoted into oblivion.

I ran through this and if the Texans lose to NE and at Tenn and the Colts lose only to NO, Colts will be Division winner.

Both will be 10-6 and the Colts will be 5-1 in the Division while the Texans will be 4-2.

What gets lost after a game like last night, are the great plays we have made in the passing game this year.

I think if the Texans lose any other games (in addition to the NE game)...and the Colts run the table...the Colts will have the tiebreaker...either through division record or common games. But barring that...the Colts will be playing for the WC.

The thread should have been titled "defections of a Brissett apologist"

If anyone told you we'd have a 100 yard rusher, out rush Houston, win the turnover battle, and hold them to 20 in their own house, 99% of people would guess we won.

This is a clear example of the "sustainability" conversation that's gone on for a while.....

Quite simply the way we were winning was not sustainable, and we sheet the bed tonight. The fail was a lack of production in the passing game, or at minimum the lack of confidence in the passing game (causing Reich to call the exact opposite of the game plan that beat Houston earlier)....

And those that liked to dwell on JB's superman or clutch moments have nothing to grasp this week. Clear example that "all he does is win" is a silly anecdotal excuse for his lack of production.

Like I said...the W/L record was the last bastion of this entire debate...and unfortunately that didn't happen tonight.

First it was passer rating...which...since the ATL game...has regressed in a scary way that no one really wants to acknowledge (outside of the HOU game...no game over 85.7 and many <80).

And then it was passing TDs...which were driven by RZ playcalling and an unbalanced TD distribution. And those have nearly vanished (outside of that HOU game...he has ONE passing TD in other 4 starts previous)...because they are now able to run the ball in the RZ.

The only thing left is W/L.

As crazy as it sounds...ever since that ATL game...he hasn't really been much different than 2017 JB.  And in that 2017 season, he never really progressed or improved as the season went on either. Can we safely say he is doing that now? I don't think so.

And this is the guy that people want to commit to long-term...at a salary that will probably eclipse Foles' deal?

ESPN just said we have roughly a 40% chance to still get in. They show us currently the 7th team lol, with the Raiders 6th.

It's definitely possible...even if they lose to NO. OAK has six games left...and three are very losable. Of course they would have to lose all 3...but it's possible.

BUF also has three very losable games left. I am guessing they would have any tiebreaker over the Colts though.

Gonna be great when the team is 8-1 making a playoff push next year with --insert generic 2020 NFL Draft quarterback-- and everyone's all like "Man, Chris Ballard is the best GM in the business" and "Reich is an offensive mastermind".

Jacoby Brissett is beyond limited, it's funny that people wanna blame Reich for JB not being a good player. Reich can't call the play AND make the read AND throw to whichever receiver is open. 2/3 of that is on the QB. There are things called "reads" on passing plays...we have a guy playing quarterback that is horribly inefficient at progressing through those reads, so bad in fact that it's like he doesn't even have a neck, his head is just stapled in one direction.

This. Is. Not. Frank. Reich's. Fault.

"Reich has really improved his playcalling"
