Richardson has such limited overall experience, by not playing at all, is unrealistic to believe he will be prepared to start the season.
Agreed, I think it's just more of the fact us as fans want to see him play.

What part of our run game gives you confidence we'd be fine without Taylor?
I still say the run game comes down more to scheme and oline than pure rb talent.

Touché to the sentiments here on the crappy refs. It really is mind blowing that the league just doesn’t get the full time refs. They could make it happen if they wanted to but they don’t want to pony up the money. Maybe pay the players a bit less so they can appropriate that to full time refs. Right!! Like the players would give up money for the sake of the game.
I am still an Ehlinger fan…I think the kid could play if he had been given a proper chance with a good coach. But happy we have AR and Minshew also. I think it would be really fun to put a play package together where AR and Ehlinger along with Taylor are all in on the same play. Talk about defenses guessing which way the ball goes on that one.
Sam is alright, knows whe too scramble but his deep ball is a budlight rainbow lol...

Practice your challenges in preseason too Shane. Sam clearly had that 1st down.

Is Winfree gonna take the last receiver spot from Strachan or are both more likely practice squad stashes?
Winfree definately is making a case for that last spot. Might not even need Washington...

The play calling is definitely more promising than last year.

I think he plays. The entire narrative since we drafted AR is that he just needs as many reps as possible. I don't think sitting him as soon as he's announced the starter jives with that very well. Let him get a few series or a quarter (with the starting OL).
I don't see Richardson agreeing to not getting some snaps. Dude seems like a kid at Christmas to be out there. I agree with the post about get him on the field at home for the experience. Maybe we wear are Indiana Nights uniforms lol.

Luck didn’t protect himself. What made Luck fun to watch is what led to his early retirement.
Luck was the most sacked QB his first few seasons. We had a horrible oline before Ballard came in. I agree some of Lucks injuries were his style but. He got killed in the pocket a lot.

Easier said than done. Finding top quality offensive linemen is a problem for every GM.
Draft a center and a Tackle to start next year's draft is all I'm saying. We failed Luck with no protection can't repeat that with AR5.

This comment leads me to believe you make little sense.
So maybe they are more available than I perceived but Kelly flat out sucks and Smith isn't playing up to the level of the contract. We would be better off bring in new pieces than resigning these players down the road.

Braden Smith played in 16 games last year and has rarely missed a start in his 5 year career.
He has had an injury history, and definately declined in play maybe I thought he has missed more games than he has but he definately is playing to level of his contract. Regardless we have to start a rebuilding of the oline. In my opinion the whole right side C G T can be built cheaper and better over the next few seasons.

Kelly started 17 games last year. Smith started 16. Performance dipped for sure, but they aren't known for missing tons of games
Kelly had an elbow injury for many games. And Smith has missed a lot in prior seasons. You can tell with each player that injuries of directly affected there ability to play.

I definitely don't see our team void of talent. There are many teams more talented but to say we are even rebuilding is off base. We have new a QB who is talented by the way. Last I looked, Pittman, JT - if he plays, Nelson, Smith, Kelly, Leonard, Buckner, and Moore have been around a few years. This is not a complete rebuild. We have a team that can win 8 games as well, that would be a real successful rookie season for AR going by wins.
I'm sorry but Smith and Kelly are never available and are eating at the cap IMHO. This next draft should be focused on the Oline. Finding a new C and more pieces to go around Nelson. I wouldn't be shocked if Kelly retires on us, considering he has a young family and can't stay healthy. I don't think we are a rebuild. But rebuilding the oline is coming...

There is probably not one team in the NFL that does not have some issues along their Oline. It is up to the coaches to mask the issue. Gobs of money and assets were spent on the Oline. It is time for Nelson, Kelly and Smith to show us what they are worth. To me, if this Oline is not able to rise above inferior RG play, then man we have a much larger problem.
You are right in this statement. Our problem has been the lingering health issues of these three. It may be considered more bad luck than normal. My problem is Ballard knows of this issue going into this season and didn't bring in any veteran depth. Regardless of money and we have cap space he should have spent a little on depth. If one or more of these players goes down we are in deep trouble. He preached trenches taking the GM job here, and seems to have fell asleep on his believes going into this season. If we are a dumpster fire this year upfront I think he should be on the hotseat...

As excited as I am for the upcoming season and the development of our young talent, I’m most excited about the youth movement in our secondary. Juju certainly has the juice and the entire group has some internal Swag and speed. They will be tested early and often, I loved what Venturi mentioned about using this time in the next few joint practices and games to have them get on the line of scrimmage and press coverage. Of course we know the edge rush will assist them, but the pieces and the foundation are
If the D front steps up and shows growth it will really help these CBs build confidence. I think Kwitty steps up big. And I'm happy getting AQM back as a rotation piece.

The surgery he had was an ankle procedure done back in January that takes 2 months to heal.
Obviously there is some doubt to his health. I wouldn't pay him until I see him perform back at his level. Everyone would call for Ballard's head if he gave JT 10 mil now and he has an injury riddled season.

I said I'd sign him for one year for $10 million. How is that another Leonard, Kelly, or Smith scenario? You would literally have him off the books at the end of the year.
I did say I'd sign him to a multi-year contract for $8 million a year, which is slightly more than Miles Sanders, and equal to Dalvin Cook.
If he is injured or not playing well you justed wasted your money...and it relates to the players I mentioned because they all got top market contracts and have costed the team valued money due to injuries. Why risk adding another player to that list...

Probably not, but my reasoning behind this is that Zeke signed for $6 million a year, and Cook signed for $8 million a year. Maybe it showed Taylor he's not worth as much as he thinks.
There should be no scenario where a RB is paid 10mil coming off surgery without a prove it season. If you pay him now and he is a shell of himself you have another Leonard, Kelly, Smith scenario...now if he plays out his contract like he said he had no problems doing and has a repeat season of 2021 then negations like that begin. We have a lot of money tied into a questionable Oline that is more important for our future than 1 RB.

Kelly has been out there and looking serviceable again. Smith got hurt again. Plus Ballard will likely look to sign some cast offs in the coming weeks. Where he’s had some big successes doing it. I’m concerned about it as well but not a ton can be done
My problem with it has been Kelly have been been consistently hurt and under performing past two seasons. Nelson's back has been problematic for awhile now too. You can't just sign cast offs to fill in for veterans when your line has been struggling. Ballard came in and fixed the line and hasn't done much to keep it fortified. He preached trenches, then he's fell off that wagon. I admit we've been hit hard there with are best players being the ones hurt. Fisher was the only solid attempt we brought in. Then we had Reed and Glow and just kicked them to the curb. I think it's a bad look sending another supposed franchise QB of the future out there with oline questions.

Hopefully this Richardson thing isn’t to deflect from some bad Taylor news coming soon.
I'm over Taylor, what's up with Smith and Kelly is my concern. Ballard deserves to be fired if this line burns again. He stressed trenches coming into this job and has put all his eggs in to the my injured players will come back strong basket. We have no oline depth if we are beat up. AR5 is gonna be a rerun of Luck...

If we offered a guaranteed contract at about 9 to 10 mil a year I wonder if he'd accept
Yeah but it's still best for both sides to wait till next offseason. Colts get to see if Taylor is healthy and Taylor can have a chance to build some leverage...

JT probably realizes he really has no trade value now too. At least for what he wants.
I think the gravity of his situation is sinking in. He will come back for the last preseason game and play this year. I doubt they do a contract though. Taylor sees he has to raise his stock again. He'd be smart just to play his best and wait...

Why. That would be cheap for Taylor. Maybe this will help get Taylor done.
Got to keep in mind Cook knows with Rodgers and the Jets D, that this is him taking less to be on a contender. Cook wouldn't make that deal with Indy...
