  1. I too am an Orioles fan, and though I watch wayyy more football than baseball nowadays, I would say try and watch some Orioles games this year. Last year was a blast and it feels great to be watching (and sensing) the Orioles of old again (80s and 90s for me). Sorry for my nostalgia side tangent, back to the thread at hand
  2. I think for me, I would focus heavily on the offense in the draft (though there are so many defensive prospects I like too and wouldn't pass on BPA if it were defense). So my free agency would be to stock up on defense, since I think there are a lot of good guys there too. And would target Brock Bowers, Powers-Johnson, and Will Shipley for the first 3 picks Would love: Josh Allen Frankie Luvu More Realistic targets: Xavier McKinney Maurice Hurst Blake Cashman Teair Tart Resigns: Grover Stewart Tyquan Lewis
  3. I'm not in a disagreement that the Buckner situation is different than AJ Brown. But from a salary standpoint, if I remember correctly, Buckner still had 1 more year left before he was going to need a new mega contract. And in AJ Browns case, he also has 1 year of reasonable cap number. The next 2 years after though are like $26M and $41M. So yes, they are different, but it's not like if the Eagles wanted to do a simple reset with some draft picks and future salary cap management, that it would be some crazy idea
  4. Oh you are probably correct in that. And just as the pipe dream comment above, isn't that the whole point in coming online and talking about Colts football and what we would love to happen? If not, then I guess I shouldn't even log off of work and just grind 16 hours and then go to bed. I will say though, I also had no idea that they would have traded for Buckner either...
  5. All in baby! Imagine if we didn't have to trade a first for him and could use that first for Bowers. Sure that's a lot of cap in WR but you would have Pittman, AJ Brown, Bowers, and Downs
  6. Yes, if you go back and watch that replay and squint your eyes real hard, you will see that #31 says Ballard on the back of that jersey. Just trust me and not go back and watch that replay
  7. I think there is some form of accountability here. It's not like Irsay is saying drive the organization into the ground. There are a lot of things that Ballard could have/probably did for Frank and it didn't work. And a owner like Irsay probably knows who wanted and who was responsible (therefore some accountability was shown). As for some of the stuff in previous message. Like Ballard being passive in FA, do we not remember the Polian days?!? I would say Ballard is ultimate aggressive there if we compared the two lol. And which QB's could he have moved up for? I'm sure someone is going to say Tua or Herbert, but you have no idea if those teams that got him, told the teams above them, that hey if you get an offer, give us a chance to beat it. I'm not a fanboy nor a hater of Ballard (somewhere in the middle), but try to look at these things with some sense of logic. Changing head coaches and GMs willy nilly, just cause less consistency and accountability in my mind. Getting rid of him when things don't "go our way" could mean the next owner wants a different defense scheme, therefore pushing out further and further rebuild. I think this long leash that Ballard has been given is kind of a breath of fresh air in the world of turning around a team. Granted I do think like you, he probably does have a warm seat at least for this upcoming year. But there is no way we can't say Ballard has not at least built a more solid supporting cast team. If this would have been in 2005 and Manning would have been injuried like AR was, this year would have probably been 3-14 with the old regime (including the Luck regime).
  8. You're right, we can't "trust" him on it. But we also don't know because he's never had a Manning. And the year he had Luck, I'd say that year went very well. Also if we are playing the hindsight game, put the Colts team with a Brissett in the early 2000s and I would doubt we would make the playoffs. The defense on those Colts teams in my opinion sucked. Yes they had Mathis and Freeney but needed the lead to be truly effective. Without the lead, they got gashed in the run game and the CBs always seemed to be getting abused
  9. Lol, yea I was just giving examples of first round picks acquisitions that have happened that were almost similar. Ala, AJ Brown (franchised tag) traded for a 1st and 4th. And then Washington trading pick #46 and next year 2nd for the 26th pick. May not be easier as each year is different, but possible as it's been done recently
  10. Yea. I mean we could probably get really crazy with ideas to get a lot of folks that people may want. But you would have to pay the piper (in this case, lose some talent, to get the talent). I honestly believe you can have weapons to use: You got 15th picks. You can probably get another first by trade Pittman after franchise tag. And you could get another first round by trading this years second and next years second. I think we may actually be in the spot that Washington was that year they did it. So if you want to think about it, we could have potentially (if you have a trade partner), the 15th, the 18th, and 26th pick. And still have next years first to dangle in a trade. Gotta love the armchair GM decisions,
  11. Yep I agree, we may be fans, but the eye test tells a lot. It's just going to be hard to get what I would think is needed. Another WR, a DE, and a FS for this team that is desperately needed. Not unless we can sign Jaguars DE Josh Allen, trade this years first and next years first for Malik Nabers (or maybe this years first and next years second or third to move up for Odunze). And the whatever can be done to package (either next years first/second and this years second) for Cooper DeJean...
  12. Probably to significantly overpay the Bears like the Panthers did, to jump the Texans. And then we could have all heard that for the year, that even though the Colts got Stroud, the Colts now don't have the capital in future drafts to help him. The power of negativity
  13. I'm playing devils advocate as you can see and amazed at the numbers you are getting (I'm too lazy to go gather all that). But even those numbers don't tell me time of possession or other things I could probably nitpick at. Did those runs come at the end of the game, etc? End of the day, my eye test is telling me what you are saying though, I would love to have a dominate edge rusher and why I said in another thread (shoot it might even be in this one haha), that if Josh Allen (Jaguards DE) became available, then I would swing to sign him.
  14. I'm not disagreeing with the group here and think the Colts need an Elite DE still as I think all their current DE's are high end complimentary pieces (which I'm glad they are on the Colts). But with the sack totals numbers being discussed above, don't we also need to include how many times the opponent ran in those games, reducing sack chances? How well our offense had the ball, meaning our defense got rest and whatnot. I can't argue with the numbers above as they are the facts, but sometimes the lack of pressures could be the result of other indirect things
  15. I'm definitely not excusing him and think you are right in that hopefully we get some answers, but I think it may actually take next year to find out. And I say that because I wonder how much of it was purely Shane's accountability measures this year. It's all speculation on my end, but maybe Frank's accountability just sucked and caused things to worsen, and over the years people just got accustomed to doing "what they want".
  16. Oh man, if the Jaguars ran out of space to sign him, that would change my whole off-season plan and I would be trying to sign him. And then worry about salary cap afterwards. Would pretty much guarantee that one of Paye or Dayo wouldn't be back after next season
  17. Yep, good points. I think the thing missing too with having an elite TE is not really needing them to come off the field as much either. And that just further enhances that RPO. Because we all know those defenses will key in on those guys coming in and out of the lineup, and have done their film on what those guys are more keen on doing. But having a TE that takes that huge lion share of snaps (which Bowers would obviously do) causes that range of guessing plays so much more. But that's my opinion of course
  18. I mean for that, I would think the reason being that our "top" TE was out for the year, then you basically had 2 rookies in Ogletree (since hurt year 1) and Mallory. Then you got Cox that to me is great at blocking but not really all that. And then Granson that is soft blocking and maybe not what Shane was looking for (didn't draft for him). I just think there are plenty of reasons why we didn't use them to the extent that possibly Shane would want in the future. And none of them (except possibly a further away Mallory) of what Bowers currently is
  19. @Superman When you mention a playmaking TE as something Ballard could target as making the offense more explosive, are there any that come to mind for you specifically? Obviously there is Bowers, who I personally would take over any WR there other than Harrison Jr or Nabers (yep I'd take him over Odunze).
  20. Maybe holding on to him so when free agency starts, he can factor into the compensatory formula for next season?
  21. Yea no worries. And yea totally can see why waiting for a WR later would appealing too. I watched a lot of Nabers this year. The way he plays and separates, just something I truly like about him. To me he's not better than Marvin Harrison Jr but in a normal year, this guy is better than a lot of the WR's in prior years. Again, thats just the way I feel about him
  22. 3 first round picks? 2024 and 2025 are just 2 picks. So it would be this years 15th and then whatever next season is. I think I see the confusion as you might be thinking the 2024 season, but I was more talking about the 2024 "draft" picks
  23. I think for me, I think I would roll into this draft really targeting 2 players. Those players for me would be Malik Nabers, and would trade 2024 and 2025 1st round picks to move up. And hope that that would be good enough to go from say 15 to 7. And then would target Cooper Dejean with hoping that he falls due to broken leg. And would trade 2024 and 2025 2nd round picks. I know people will hate missing those "precious" picks but at some point premium players is what is needed. And I feel the Colts have some good depth and some really promising youth. And at this point, got to give your QB of the future, everything to make him successful while on that "cheap" contract. And I think WR and S are the positions holding them back
  24. Foles is still on the roster because you never know what will happen from now, all the way up until the draft. What happens if Sam E decides he wants to go into ministry all of a sudden, then a team trades up to #3 the day before the draft and then day of draft, one of the top 4 players gets into a car accident and can't play football ever again. Now you are out of the running for a top 3 QB and if you had cut Foles, you would be down to 1 QB (Minshew). I understand that is a lot of crazy stuff to happen, but just because you can't understand why he's on the roster, doesn't mean there isn't a good reason. And cutting him today or cutting him the day after the draft ends, who cares
  25. And this right here I think sums up where most of where I've been going all night. I do think your assumption is correct on what the Cardinals are thinking (again we are just fans assuming) and want their new DE for the future. And with that knowledge, and with the assumption that Ballard/Steichen potentially like all 4 QBs (or heck, now it just becomes 3 of the top QBs), they would be guaranteed to get one. And would be happy, and get to keep their picks. And the Panthers had to make their trade because they were out of the top 4, maybe knew Cards werent trading and definitely knew the Texans/Colts werent going to be their friends
