So then you are saying we DO need another DT threat up the middle?  So where do we get it? If we already HAVE it, then we don't NEED it.  So which is it?  Do we need to add someone, or do we have someone?  If you don't know the answer, then you seem (not putting words in your mouth) but you SEEM to be agreeing with me.  Perhaps this opens the door to bringing in a FA experienced DT that is available.  Right now, the top 2 by far available are Suh and Liuget.  Do you have a third or fourth name for us to consider?  If you don't think we should bring someone else in, then you ARE saying we already have what we need.  Can we afford to wait until the end of training camp to learn we don't have it and then try at the last moment to cram someone in who got cut? I am not clear on what you are suggesting we do?

I am simply asking the question, does this open the door? and if so, would Suh or Liuget fill that need?  If people wanted us to draft a top DT, then the only reason for that is if we still had a pressing need for that position.  (I think we DO have a pressing need there).   We couldn't get the right guy in the draft, so it seems logical to me to fill it with a FA if they can do the job for a year until we get another shot at drafting a young player to fill the void or sign perhaps a younger FA next year.  But we still have this year to worry about.  I can't see leaving us weak in the middle on the hopes that one of the existing guys steps up.  I think the insurance policy is to sign a FA to fill the hole FOR SURE while continuing to develop the young guys.  Hunt is no spring chicken either.  And he's injury prone.

So what is your solution? Wait and see, fill the need in FA, fill the need in the 7th round or UDFA?

Perhaps you were not among them, but most fans though we'd draft a DT.  You're saying we never needed anyone else and are 100% locked in with what we already have?

Huh?  Where did I say never?

No not at all.  How did the Chiefs beat us?  Which is a team at the level we need to be and were obviously not last year.

A combination of no pressure, not being able to cover, and not enough talented receivers - right?.  Offensively no one could get open.

So they addressed, hopefully, some of the cover issues this year and perhaps even mildly the lack of rushing issue..... and maybe added a bit of offensive talent to address some of those needs.

    I don't get your point.

Mine is those two you listed don't fit our locker room.  And maybe the org. sees more than we do with what we have ..... FOR NOW - not forever.  I think it is pretty clear they are always going to try to create competition.  But it is my feeling it won't be Suh.

Well, I think his intent was to build such a solid team that we could bring in a top talent at a spot of need and it would be able to tolerate any issues that player might bring with them.

Suh and/or Liuget could likely be had, after this VERY DT heavy draft, for a fraction of what they might have been worth most years.  No one has commented on Liuget yet.  He was suspended 4 games last year and also tore a muscle and missed much of the season.  But he's a penetrator on D just like Suh...  it really seems like either could be a big piece of our rotation at DT and make us super nasty in the middle.

Yeah, I hear ya, but the character of either are just so misaligned with what the Colts are doing.  And to add to that, you know the old saying .... One bad apple.... - right?  Not saying the locker room couldnt overcome it with a wealth of character, but it is a problem that doesnt need tested.

I don't think we're bringing any FA pass rushers in, but one more solid DT I think would be important to the rotation and top end strength.  I guess I am not very high on Grover and Hunt/Ridgeway aren't enough for me.

I thought Hunt did pretty well last year, but was playing more than his condition allowed .. in other words needs a solid speller at times.  Not the end all but good enough to keep blockers off our LB's and create some push toward the QB.  Next year will be the year we make big strides on the DL

And part of that "rest" group .... we have not seen the full potential of Turay or Lewis, could be very high level players for all we know.  Time will tell, but I cant see Sue here - ever

No, I did not mean to write Sue, lol

  5. I know its been mentioned a few times, but what a mic drop when Reggie backed the Titan fans off ... he seemed a little torqued about it .. great move.

I happen to like our first selection ... we all know we need better corners.  Hopefully he develops quickly and works out well for us in rotation.... or whatever roll he ends up in.

  6. Question probably should have been why was he hired.

Never was a big fan of the Jim Caldwell experiment.  Not saying slobber or snot has to be flailing from your face to be a good football coach, but his demeanor seems off canter compared to a lot of the more successful coach's in the NFL.  So quiet and meek personality ... one that just doesn't feel right from my point of view.

Who knows, maybe the players respected that quality in him.  I don't remember any of the players speaking out against him or his ways or anything like that.  But I dont know that we would ever really hear that.

So regardless of his mannerisms or style of coaching, what exactly was the reasoning behind promoting him to HC?  Tony's recommendation?  I mean other than his time with the Colts as associate head coach or whatever his title was, exactly what was so intriguing about his resume?  I was just really surprised that they transitioned from Tony right into Jim.  Maybe they thought it would be seamless, train is still on the tracks and no changes needed type thing, Idk.

Whatever, but it didn't work and I feel like his lack of aggressiveness was one of the reasons they lost the SB to the Saints.

I love Reddick...   was hot for him when he came out...   I’m surprised if it’s true they’re shopping him.    He’s still on a rookie contract.   Also surprised about Buchanon.

I’d be interested in both if them, but only up to a point.  I’ll believe this rumor when there is more to it.

Yeah, I dont see it happening and it sounds a bit strange to me.  He was highly regarded prior to the draft, even though some said he took too many plays off.

I think there is little to no merit to the rumor.

    Why would they?  More misinformation

Ebron has a td in each of the last 2 games.  Grant had a great game against the Bengals.   What big name weapons has Tom Brady ever had outside of Moss

Even when we play well it is easy for some to forget we are rebuilding and it is impossible to address every single weakness.  Even though it has been a while many people remember having Clark, Reggie, Marvin etc ... etc all at once so they are expecting it to be that way now.  I believe it will be that way at some point, just going to take a couple more years.

The staff did well with what we have by scheming and getting receivers open who otherwise would more than likely be covered in a less creative system (not mentioning OC names).

I love this offense. It's head and shoulders better than what we had under Pagano. I love the way they scheme guys open.

I agree .... and I love this defense too.

Today was the surest tackling I  remember seeing in many years.  I hope both offense and defense continue to play well and grow every week...... although ... having a high pick and grabbing Bosa in the draft would be cool too.

Overall a well schemed/ coached, played/ executed game, even with the time it took to re-adjust after the half and overcoming our sluggish return to the field.  Much better than last week.

Penalties were minimal and really never cost us much, and more importantly the concentration and ball protection we had this week was impressive.

Leonard is going to be one special player in a year or two.  Playing exceptionally well now as a rookie, but he has the potential to be a phenomenal player for us.

In the end, everyone made a difference by playing their role and with the lack of mistakes the team effort exemplified what Chris Ballard has been preaching to us (and I assume them).  It felt really good to watch a total team effort today get rewarded by doing just that.

I do to.  I was just trying to make a joke about his holding penalties in the preseason.

    I apparently failed.

Well .... someone will have to hold Kerrigan or he will be in Luck's face (blocking a pass or kissing him goodnight while he is on his back) the whole game.  Might as well be him

Yep, me and my buds will be at the Homewood Suites the weekend of the Texans game.  Our tradition is to also eat at Buca’s one night too.

Overindulging after a win is much better.

Not sure when I am going to be able to come over for a game yet ... hopefully it will happen though.  Buca's oh yeah!!

Overindulging after a win is like the best feeling in the world.  But not on the good side more than I am feeling on the bad side today from the way Purdue played .... they laid enough eggs for the entire fan base to have breakfast tomorrow.

  12. Seriously?

Cant believe anyone thinks that way.  How can you, as a player coach affiliate or whatever, go out and bust your but every day and say to yourself .... I only want to get good enough to stay on the team, but we want to lose this year so we can get a higher draft pick.

    why even bother :dunno:

I don't get it .... not one bit.  Its not the world I live in anyway.  I want to be the best I can be at whatever I am doing .... even if that means I lose once in a while ... that makes me better.

LOL  I must have missed the Super Bowl appearance that Andrew Luck led this team to.  Come on man...Luck really hasn't had an MVP worthy season as of yet.

Did you see this ... just curious.  I know he went to the SB and all, but this pretty much says what the guy is.  Sometimes the team carries an average QB pretty far.  Works both ways I guess.

Funny thing is, I thought Vanderjagt was right.

    I hear ya ....

I remember watching that live .... kinda wish AL was a little more assertive like PM is/ was but he has his own style I suppose.  And... wins are wins and that is what we all want.

I prefer the "matter of fact" and outspoken leadership qualities or personalities more than what I have noticed from Andrew.  That doesn't mean he does not posses those qualities, because I don't know for sure, from what I have seen however, he appears to be more relaxed and quiet than PM was.

I inserted the video because this topic drew so much attention and, well Pat could be considered and * kicker by some so it seemed relative.  I don't feel that way, I like Pat although I think he could have handled these situations differently - more professionally and responsibly.

It feels like more of a "Pat" problem than a manager/ boss problem.  Even though RG is likely a bigger Richard than most of us even know.
