  1. I still feel Painter looks pretty bad. He had a couple decent passes. The pass to Wayne was so open JaMarcus Russell could have completed it. I can't get over the one play where he had a blitz coming up the middle and seemed frantic throwing to ball away. It was really weird.

Nevis and Moala looked great! Addai and Carter looked good. Brown, I think it has more to do with the run called. I am not sure why the Colts run outside because it rarely does well. They are much better off hitting the a or b gaps.

  2. I always think I am on top of the Colts transactions as I check sites probably 10 times a day. It occurred to me that Tommie Harris has Dawson's number, so I know Dawson must have been cut, but I had to go back and actually find that out. That is great news as I always felt Dawson was bad as both a DT and DE. So I am "Johnny Come Lately" on this, but I am glad it happened!! hahaha

  3. By the way, I live nowhere near Baltimore or Indianapolis. So my being a fan has nothing to do with Geography. I just loved reading about Johnny Unitas and watching Bert Jones. I remember how excited I was to see Jeff George play his first game. I believe his first preseason pass was a TD that was called back. I remember loving the Colts having Randy McMillian and Curtis Dickey. I always liked Pagel over Schlichter. I remember a game the Colts played where Bert Jones, Bill Troup, and Mike Kirkland all played and they just destroyed the other team. Or the Monday Night game where Joe Washington did everything. That was the single greatest performance I think I have every seen by one player. If you aren't old enough to remember that game, read about or watch it somewhere if you can. Joe Washington was amazing in that game.

  4. Got y'all beat! I've been a Colt fan since Unitas stepped in to take the snaps in the 50's. I guess perhaps a kid named Johnny "Unite Us" struck my 8 year old patriotic funny bone. Like Manning and Brady today there was the head-to-head comparison between Unitas and Bart Star back then. I saw the Colts play the college all-stars in Soldiers Field I think in 1959. (In case you don't know the pro football champs used to play a game against a college team made up of the best in the country.) I was rolling on the floor pulling my hair watching "The Greatrest Game Ever Played" when Ameche bulled over the goal line to beat the Giants (Sorry, Frank Gifford but you never made that first down as you claim.) My dad took many pictures of me watching the game and had doubts about my future as a "normal" kid. Growing up in Chicago and a life-long Cubs fan I stuck with my Colts through the bad times and the good times as I remain a Cubs fan still today and I doubt I will live to see them win a world series. My dream game was the Colts/Bears Super Bowl as I am a Bears fan as well in the NFC. If there is an older fan than me please step up and share your thoughts.

Wow!!! I am impressed. I envy you there. I read so much about all the great players and teams. My first memory was Bert Jones to Roger Carr.

  5. I checked out a book called "Johnny Unitas And The Long Pass" from my school library 15 times when I was like 7-8 years old. So I became a Colt fan in 1975, right at the time they got good again for about four years. So I have been through the highs and lows and always loved them. My most prized possession is a football signed by both Manning and Unitas.

  6. I know there was a problem with the rookie contracts escalating each year, and that seems to have been addressed. But with what was going on with Peyton's contract, at what point do veterans ever hit a wall where the salaries stop going up? I don't see the salary cap going up by leaps and bounds. Yet, when a guy like Larry Fitzgerald gets more then most QBs get, I wonder at what point does a play eat so much of the team's salary that they simply cannot go up anymore? As you know, players are always pushing the limits to set the stage for the players that get contracts after them. But it seems contracts are growing faster then the salary cap is.

    Curious what you all think?

  7. I do think you have a good point. Jason Whitlock made the point that Brady gets much more help than Manning as far as coaching. Manning hasn't exactly had Bill Walsh for a coach. I do think if we had a Belichick level coach, we would probably have a few more rings. Caldwell is ok, but I feel he is more like George Seifert.

  8. I think Jeff George. I would be nearly impossible for any QB to come in and succeed with such short notice. At least Jeff still has his arm, so he might connect on a few bombs.

I honestly think Peyton will be playing week 1. He is a guy very aware of historical records. He wanted to play for the same team his whole career. I believe he also wants to start every game in his career.

  9. But it is not like it isn't done. Now, I am talking in the 80s. Mark Bortz was a pretty good defensive lineman for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Bears drafted him and made him an offensive guard, which seemed so bizarre to me. And he played it very well, with no college experience at it. As I mentioned, Darryl Grant was an offensive lineman in college, and the Redskins made him a defensive tackle, and he was pretty good.

Heck, Joe Reitz appears to be a starting offensive guard now on the Colts will no college football experience. Sure, it has taken three years to get there, but he did it.

I honestly think it is a good question by the original poster. Not that they will do it. McClendon supposed to be so strong and intelligent. If he can't be a starter in the offensive line, it would be interesting to see if he had anything for playing DT.

  10. Bro my patients is running thin :morning:. The D wouldnt have looked so bad if they werent on the field that long

I hear you! There was a lot of positives from the game, but QBing wasn't one of them

Drake Nevis already looks like best tackle on the team and potentially a blue chip player. He seems to always push his guy backwards.

Castonza looks very solid at LT

Delone Carter looks to be a very solid RB who can get that extra yard

Hughes started very slow but then started getting some pressure, which was good.

Ogbu, I thought, fires off the balls very well.

Reitz seems as if the sky is the limit on what he could do. For a guy that big, he is very athletic but strong.

  11. I have stayed away from the bashing, but they were both really bad. I am actually stunned at how badly they both play. Orlovsky holds the ball way too long. Painter just seems lost. I realize it is preseason and the offensive is much to learn, but I really would hope somebody would play better than that or be available.

Is it too late to call Jeff George?? jk lol
