Hard to see from this angle but go to the 6;33 mark

    2:20-2:25

    No holding on Turay??

    3rd and 13

Turay tackled to the ground. Would have had a hit on the QB. No call?!?

Result of the play: TD Chargers

Colts play from behind the rest of the game.

I am going to throw out a ridiculous hypothesis that is impossible to prove, and I don't even really believe it myself, but here goes:

Andrew Luck has stated that he has lost his love for football and we now know he was contemplating retirement earlier than just this year.  Is it possible that this mentality contributed to slow, flat, starts?  It seemed like we would start the first couple quarters in this manner, and then his pride kicked in and he started "yet another comeback".

The only reason I am posing this question is that I believe belief has a lot do to with performance, especially at the highest levels when everyone's natural talent is relatively on par (narrower variance).  This is why you give the ball to Micheal Jordan, or Reggie Miller, when you have 2 seconds on the clock; they refuse to lose.  At first I chalked it up to coaching but it has crossed multiple coaches now.  Also, in 2017 we didn't have this problem, we had the opposite, and couldn't put the game away.

I realize this post may anger some people, and that is not my intent. It is just a stray thought that came into my head that I have been mulling over and wanted to see what others think.

Agreed. I think the mindset of the team is going to change with TB at the helm. Play calling is going to to be shaped to JBs strengths. I can see faster starts happening. Really need clutch 3rd down catches from our arsenal of pass receivers.

  3. Some Colts fans are actually paying customers for the pre-season games. I agree winning doesn't matter. However an entertaining contest is much more fun to attend. The depth this year should provide us more bang for the buck as compared to previous years.

The daily NFL coverage is mind-boggling. TV guys, radio guys, internet guys, ex-players, ex-coaches, ex-GMs and every other type of blathering human being you can think of. How about we Colts fans just tune out Rodney Harrison altogether? He's just trying to needle us and cast doubt on our improvement as a team. Chris Ballard > Rodney Whatshisface

Yep - he just did it to take a dig at colts fans.

Isn't that like needling us Colts fans. At least that's the way I read it with my Colts colored glasses.

Ha??  They lose players and coaches every year and keep ticking along.  This Colts team has done nothing.  They won 9 games in a row and turned their season around.  During that stretch, they played some very mediocre qbs and  got man handled in KC. There will b no hiding this year as they got a very tough schedule against good qbs

Whose side you on there bud? Hiding? Who's hiding? The Colts line up and play the team standing in front of them week in, week out. Obviously some days go better than others.

No matter what the popular opinion is, there will be a championship day when the Patriots go down and go down hard. It's going to take a team whose leadership group is able to match wits with the "almighty" and inspire his players to smash Brady in the mouth over and over. Personally I can't wait to see it happen. Brady whining and complaining at his teammates and coaches during the thrashing. Then the "almighty" at the press conference afterwards, "no comment" "no comment" "no comment".

It'll be a great great day for every fan outside of Boston. I believe in our team. Is there time now? We'll see. Go Colts!!!

  7. I say this every year. Earning a reputation as a physically dominant team on both sides of the ball will pave the way to greatness in this league. I remember a coach's joke from when I was an aspiring teenaged hockey player. "Son you need to be like John Wayne toilet paper. Rough, tough and don't take no crap off anybody." Showing my age there, but whatever.

How can you say he made a poor decision when you don't know what the Colts and the other teams were offering him ? If the offer the Colts (if they even did make an offer) made was not at least similar to Carolina's , he would be a fool to accept it. And for what it's worth Newton's shoulder issue is said to be not all that serious.

The decision to not seek out the Colts and entice them to make an offer is what I question. Colts had a need at the position, an ascending defense, a team that is ready to make a run and boatloads of cash. My thought is he should have chosen to visit the Colts first and convinced CB he was a guy that could get them to a Super Bowl.

I wish Newton the best of luck with his shoulder.

  9. Alright then. Moving on.

What I don't get is he chose C. Newton over A. Luck to get him to the Super Bowl. Didn't both of them have shoulder surgery at the same time a couple years ago? Since then Luck rehabbed for a whole year and came back with a very strong season. Newton was hurried back and now is having surgery again on the same shoulder.

Good luck to you McCoy. I think you made a poor choice decision.

Ballard said it himself he is always looking for talent.  Never stops.  Showing interest and signing a player are two different things like we have seen.  Players should know there will always be competition.  GMs and HCs don't have a lot of time.  They should always be on the lookout for acquiring talent.  It's the business they're in.

I see your point and agree. You always have to be looking for players who could improve the team. Would it be fair to say that Ballard goes about it in an under the radar kind of way for a reason (possibly to spare the young developing players any dips in confidence or motivation)? Links to CBs interest in higher profile players mostly comes from media people imo.

  11. It should be obvious to McCoy that the Colts are a team that very well could rise to the top of the league this season. If he wants to be part of something special, pick up the phone and set up a visit.

NFL free agents need to start taking note, the Colts don't need anyone who's all about the money. They're not desperate anymore.

With that all said, I hope McCoy and his agent come their senses and can convince Ballard that this is where he wants to be.

  12. Thanks for summarizing NCF!

A lot of interesting possibilities... This year's draft is very intriguing as a Colts fan.

Your summary spurs creative thinking and a challenge beyond who might or might not be available at 26.

My thoughts... IF CB decides to move up, he will target a player who is mean and nasty like QN. Personally I'm not biased toward offense or defense - just add another player who has that inner toughness to be the best.

The more players the Colts have like that, the tougher "out" they will be in the playoffs.

  13. When a room full of reporters ask question after question for what felt like hours, I think it is unfair to pick apart every comment made by the players. I thought they had a lot of answers that showed that TEAM matters to them as well. I'm not a Browns fan at all, but come on... these guys are football players who want to play football, not spend time trying to carefully construct answers to questions that all start to sound the same after awhile.

    Just saying...
